A thousand rupees a head is the budget most wedding parties actually run on, and it is a good one - generous enough to buy something complete, tight enough that a second item has to be earned. The trouble is that a cap only helps if you know where it falls, and most gift lists round prices in their own favour. So here is the under-Rs 1,000 band with nothing hidden: what fits as a single, which pairs come in under the line, what tips over it, and what the whole set costs across five or six men.
Quick answers — read this first
What can you buy groomsmen for under Rs 1,000 each? More than most people expect. As singles: an alcohol-free attar at Rs 379 (Adaa), Rs 385 (Ameeri), Rs 389 (Mastani) or Rs 399 (Nawaab); a hand-poured jar candle from Rs 379; an alcohol-free car perfume from Rs 449; a 15g solid body perfume from Rs 459, with Titan at Rs 500 and Beast at Rs 549; and the most generous single the cap reaches, a reed diffuser at Rs 749 (Morning Freshness) or Rs 799 (Garden Bloom), which scents a room for six to ten weeks with no flame and no plug. As pairs: candle plus attar Rs 758, Nawaab plus candle Rs 778, Nawaab plus car perfume Rs 848, Beast plus Nawaab Rs 948, Beast plus car perfume Rs 998.
Which two-item groomsmen gifts fit under Rs 1,000? Several, and the sums are worth having in front of you. Adaa at Rs 379 with a candle at Rs 379 is Rs 758. Nawaab at Rs 399 with a candle at Rs 379 is Rs 778. Nawaab at Rs 399 with a car perfume at Rs 449 is Rs 848 - the most useful pair in the band, one thing he wears and one his car uses. Titan at Rs 500 with Nawaab at Rs 399 is Rs 899. Beast at Rs 549 with Nawaab at Rs 399 is Rs 948. Beast at Rs 549 with a car perfume at Rs 449 is Rs 998, right on the edge. What does not fit: the Attar Trio at Rs 1,055 and a Boond diffuser with a blend at Rs 1,098.
What does a set of groomsmen gifts cost at this budget? Multiply before you choose, because a cap is per man and a wedding pays for all of them. Five men at Rs 399 each is Rs 1,995; at Rs 549 each it is Rs 2,745; at Rs 799 each it is Rs 3,995. Pairs: five at Rs 848 is Rs 4,240, five at Rs 998 is Rs 4,990 - just inside a Rs 5,000 total. Six men change the picture: six at Rs 848 is Rs 5,088 and six at Rs 998 is Rs 5,988. If the total matters more than the per-head number, drop to singles across the group rather than trimming one man's gift, which is the version everybody notices.
The short answer
Short answer: Under Rs 1,000 per groomsman you can buy a single or a pair. Singles: attars Rs 379 to Rs 399, candles from Rs 379, car perfumes from Rs 449, solid perfumes Rs 459 to Rs 549, reed diffusers Rs 749 and Rs 799. Pairs that fit: candle plus attar Rs 758, Nawaab plus candle Rs 778, Nawaab plus car perfume Rs 848, Beast plus Nawaab Rs 948, Beast plus car perfume Rs 998. Over the line: Attar Trio Rs 1,055, Boond plus blend Rs 1,098, reed duo Rs 1,498. Five men at Rs 848 each is Rs 4,240; six is Rs 5,088.
The pick: a SOSA gift matched to the life they live - personal fragrance from ₹379, home fragrance from ₹379, the Safar for their car (₹3,999), the Vaayu for their business (₹11,999).
Shop: the SOSA gifts collection - alcohol-free, beautifully packaged, from ₹299.
The best fragrance gift is matched to the life the person lives: a scent for their skin, their home, their daily drive - or the business they are proudest of. SOSA covers the whole ladder, from a Rs 379 attar to the Rs 11,999 Vaayu, every step alcohol-free and beautifully packaged.
What exactly fits under Rs 1,000 a head - and what tips over the line?
Four steps. 1. The singles. Everything here is one complete gift: an alcohol-free attar at ₹379 (Adaa), ₹385 (Ameeri) or ₹399 (Nawaab); a hand-poured jar candle from ₹379; an alcohol-free car perfume from ₹449; a 15g solid perfume from ₹459, Titan ₹500, Beast ₹549; and the biggest single the cap reaches, a reed diffuser at ₹749 or ₹799. 2. The pairs. Candle plus Adaa ₹758. Nawaab plus candle ₹778. Nawaab plus car perfume ₹848. Titan plus Nawaab ₹899. Beast plus Nawaab ₹948. Beast plus car perfume ₹998 - the last pair before the line. 3. What does not fit. The Attar Trio is ₹1,055, over by ₹55. A Boond (₹799) needs a Hotel Collection blend (from ₹299) to be a gift at all, so ₹1,098. The Day and Night reed duo is ₹1,498. All good gifts, none of them under ₹1,000, and a diffuser without fragrance is not a gift anybody can use, so always count the blend. 4. The set total. This is the number that matters, because a cap is per man and a wedding pays for all of them: five at ₹848 is ₹4,240; five at ₹998 is ₹4,990; six at ₹848 is ₹5,088; six at ₹998 is ₹5,988. If that total is more than you want, move the whole group down a step rather than giving four men the pair and two men the single - uneven sets get noticed on the day, in the same room, within about a minute. Made in India; a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
One line: under ₹1,000 the singles run ₹379 to ₹799 and the pairs run ₹758 to ₹998 - Nawaab plus a car perfume at ₹848 is the most useful of them, and five of those is ₹4,240.
The gifting ladder at a glance: an attar for them (from ₹379), a reed diffuser or candle for their home (from ₹379), the Safar for their car (₹3,999), the Vaayu for their business (₹11,999) - all alcohol-free, all ready to gift.
Three questions settle a Rs 1,000 cap: is one thing better than two, which pairs genuinely fit, and what happens to the total once you multiply by the whole party.
1
One or two
A single good thing usually beats two adequate ones
At ₹1,000 you have a real choice for the first time, and the instinct to fill the box is worth resisting. A single ₹799 Garden Bloom reed diffuser is a substantial object that scents a room for six to ten weeks with no flame and no plug - it looks and behaves like a gift somebody chose. Two ₹379 items in the same box can read as padding, especially if the second one was obviously added to reach the number. The exception is when the two items do different jobs rather than the same one: an attar he wears and a car perfume his car uses are not two versions of one present, they are two parts of his week, and at ₹848 together that pair is the strongest value in this whole band. Add a second item because it earns its place, not because there is room.
Tip: two items work when they do two different jobs; when they do the same job, one better version of it wins.
2
The line
Where Rs 1,000 stops, exactly
Take the cap literally and the shortlist writes itself. Under it: attars ₹379 to ₹399; candles from ₹379; car perfumes from ₹449; solid perfumes from ₹459 with Titan at ₹500 and Beast at ₹549; Morning Freshness reeds at ₹749 and Garden Bloom at ₹799. Pairs under it: ₹758, ₹778, ₹848, ₹899, ₹948 and ₹998. Just over it: the Attar Trio at ₹1,055, which misses by ₹55 and is worth knowing about because it is the natural next step; a Boond diffuser at ₹799 plus the Hotel Collection blend it needs from ₹299, so ₹1,098 honestly totalled; and the Day and Night duo at ₹1,498. A machine without fragrance is not a gift, so always count the blend.
3
The multiplier
The cap is per man; the bill is for the party
This is where wedding budgets get hurt, so do it early. A Rs 1,000 cap sounds modest until you remember you are buying it five or six times over. Five men at Rs 399 is Rs 1,995 and five at Rs 549 is Rs 2,745 - both comfortable. Five at Rs 848 is Rs 4,240 and five at Rs 998 is Rs 4,990, which is a genuine line item. Six changes everything again: Rs 5,088 at the pair price, Rs 5,988 at the top of the band. If the total is more than you want to spend, the right correction is to move the whole group down a step rather than to give four men the pair and two men the single. Uneven sets get noticed on the day, and the saving is never worth the awkwardness of the moment somebody compares boxes across a getting-ready room.
Tip: correct the budget across the whole group, never by quietly downgrading two people - an uneven set is the one thing everybody spots.
The SOSA principle
A Rs 1,000 cap is not a compromise in fragrance - it is the band where one good thing, or two things that do different jobs, both work.
Singles Rs 379 to Rs 799, pairs Rs 758 to Rs 998, and a set of five landing between Rs 1,995 and Rs 4,990 depending on which you choose.

Honest gifting notes: fragrance is personal - when you do not know their taste, choose a gift set (the Attar Trio, ₹1,055) or a home fragrance rather than a personal scent, and favour widely-loved families (sandalwood, citrus, soft florals) over polarising ones. The Hotel Collection scents are SOSA's own interpretations inspired by the world's finest hotels; SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house, not affiliated with any hotel brand. Ultrasonic diffusers use the water-based Hotel Collection fragrance; the Safar and Vaayu run waterless oil - the formats are not interchangeable. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

A note from Sonal
The gifts people remember are rarely the most expensive - they are the most seen. A scent is exactly that: it enters the person's daily life - on their skin, in their living room, in the car they drive to work, in the shop they built from nothing - and every time they meet it, they think of you.
That is why I built the SOSA range as a ladder rather than a shelf: an attar for the person, a candle or diffuser for their home, the Safar for their car, the Vaayu for their business. Match the gift to the life they live and it stops being a thing and becomes a habit - the daily moment where your gift keeps arriving. Everything is alcohol-free, long-lasting and handmade in small batches in India.
One honest note: fragrance is personal. If you do not know their taste, pick a gift set so they can choose, or scent their space instead of their skin - a home or car fragrance flatters almost everyone. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
Frequently asked questions
Is Rs 1,000 a reasonable per-person budget for groomsmen gifts?
It is the most common band for a reason: it buys something complete without turning into a headline cost. In fragrance specifically, Rs 1,000 reaches further than it does in almost any other gift category - a reed diffuser at Rs 749 or Rs 799 is a substantial object that works for weeks, and a pair like Nawaab at Rs 399 with a car perfume at Rs 449 covers both a man and his car for Rs 848. The number to watch is not the cap but the total. Five men is Rs 5,000 at the ceiling and six is Rs 6,000, and wedding budgets are made of exactly these overlooked multiples. Decide the total you are willing to spend on the wedding party first, divide by headcount, and treat that figure as the cap rather than the other way round.
Should I spend the full Rs 1,000 or is coming in under it fine?
Come in wherever the right gift sits and do not pad to reach the number. A Rs 799 reed diffuser or a Rs 848 pair is a complete, generous present, and adding a Rs 150 filler to reach Rs 998 is visible to anyone who opens the box. If you genuinely have headroom, spend it inside the same idea rather than sideways: step from Adaa at Rs 379 to Nawaab at Rs 399, or from Titan at Rs 500 to Beast at Rs 549, so the upgrade is in the gift rather than the count. The two places leftover rupees are best spent are packaging that arrives undented and a handwritten card for each man - which is also the only personalisation you can guarantee yourself without asking anyone for a service.
Can I mix singles and pairs across the group to control the total?
You can, and I would advise against it unless the difference is tied to a role everyone already recognises. Groomsmen open their gifts near each other, often in the same room on the same morning, and a set where two men got a pair and three got a single reads as a hierarchy nobody agreed to. The version that works is a clearly marked role: the best man gets the visibly bigger gift - the Attar Trio at Rs 1,055 or something further up - and everyone understands why. If the total is the problem, move the whole group down one step. Five singles at Rs 549 is Rs 2,745 against five pairs at Rs 998 which is Rs 4,990, and the cheaper set given evenly will land better than the expensive set given unevenly.
What if some groomsmen do not drive - does the car perfume pair still work?
Check first, because the car perfume is only the strongest pick in the band for men who actually drive, and about half of any wedding party usually does not. For non-drivers the natural swap at a similar price is a hand-poured candle from Rs 379, which keeps the pair structure intact - Nawaab at Rs 399 with a candle at Rs 379 is Rs 778 against Rs 848 for the car version - and still gives one thing worn and one thing for a room. If you would rather not track who drives and who does not, choose a pair that works for everyone: a solid perfume with an attar, Titan at Rs 500 plus Nawaab at Rs 399, is Rs 899 and needs no information about anybody's life at all.
Is a reed diffuser a strange gift for a groomsman?
It is less obvious than a scent he wears, which is exactly why it lands well with the men who own a flat and never buy anything for it. A reed diffuser is alcohol-free reed oil in a bottle with rattan reeds, no flame and no electricity, and it runs for roughly six to ten weeks - Morning Freshness at Rs 749 is a bright lemon and mint, Garden Bloom at Rs 799 is softer and more floral. Where it fits less well is a man who lives with parents in a house that already has its own smell habits, or a groomsman travelling home the same night with luggage to manage, since it is glass and it is liquid. For a friend with his own place, it is the most substantial thing this cap buys.
