What is wrong with a branded mug? It is signage rather than a gift. Displaying a logo on a desk is arguable; asking somebody to display it in their own kitchen is a request rather than a present, and it is read as one.
Does that mean branding is always wrong? No. Discreet or interior branding on an object the employee genuinely wants works. The problem is a mark placed where it must be looked at by the recipient in their own home.
A logo mug is signage the employee is asked to host
There is a way of looking at the branded mug that makes the whole category legible in about ten seconds, and once seen it cannot be unseen. A mug with a company logo on it is not primarily a drinking vessel. It is a small piece of signage, produced in bulk, and the act of giving it transfers the hosting obligation from the company to the employee. Somebody now has to put your mark somewhere and look at it. On a desk, that is at least defensible, because the desk belongs to the company and the mark is already on the wall behind it. In an employee's own kitchen at home, where they will look at it every morning while making tea, it is a request dressed as a present - and employees read that accurately, which is why the mug tends to end up in the office pantry rather than travelling home. Nobody complains about it, because complaining about a gift is graceless, and so the same order is placed again the following year. It is worth being precise about the distinction rather than dismissive, because branding is not the problem in itself and this bank is not in the business of pretending otherwise. A discreet mark, or a mark placed on the inside of packaging rather than on the face of an object, preserves attribution completely without asking anybody to display anything. There are also objects where a logo is genuinely wanted - team kit for something people are proud of, an anniversary item people asked for. The failure mode is narrower and specific: a prominent mark on an everyday object that the recipient must look at in their own space, given at an occasion where the stated intention was to thank them. That combination converts a gift into a small ongoing obligation, and the obligation is what gets noticed. What replaces it should be judged by one question: does this ask anything of the person receiving it? A gift that asks nothing is a gift. A gift that asks for display, for setup, for an account, for an unfamiliar routine or for storage space is a task with a ribbon on it, and tasks at the end of a working day do not get done. Judged that way, the strongest employee builds are small, personal and undemanding. An alcohol-free oil perfume weighs a few grams, fits any bag, is used by one person over months and requires nothing beyond one line of instruction - two dabs at the pulse points is the whole application, because somebody applying an oil the way they apply an alcohol spray will use several times too much. Reed diffusers ask even less: no power, which matters because employees' homes have sockets in inconvenient places just like everybody else's; no settings; no switch; no habit to form. They simply run for months from the day they are unpacked, which is why adoption in bulk programmes is effectively total rather than theoretical. There is a second consideration specific to employee gifting that the mug fails on separately, and it is worth stating because it eliminates a great deal: the gift has to complete a commute. A large share of any Indian workforce goes home on a two-wheeler, a bus, a suburban train or on foot, and anything bulky, heavy or fragile is a genuine burden at the end of a long day. A ceramic mug is all three at once - it is awkward to carry, it breaks, and it is heavy relative to its usefulness. The visible consequence in every office after a distribution is a row of boxes left behind at desks, and that row is read by everybody who walks past it. It does not say the staff were ungrateful. It says the gift was inconvenient, which reflects on the choice. Two operational notes make any build land better. First, distribute in the last hour of a working day rather than at a morning event, so nobody has to guard an object for eight hours before carrying it home. Second, attribution: put the company's line on the object's own label rather than on the outer carton, which is the first thing discarded. That is a different thing from branding the object's face - it is a small printed line the recipient encounters when they pick the object up, not a mark they are being asked to display, and it converts months of anonymous presence into months of attributed presence at no cost. Finally, a boundary worth keeping clear. A gift given to employees to take home is a different question from scenting the workplace itself. Staff spend eight or nine hours on a floor and cannot step outside it, so any fragrance in a shared workspace stays low and neutral and goes off for anybody who says it affects them, for their area, without them having to justify the request or raise it twice. Volume pricing for a headcount programme is quoted against the actual specification on WhatsApp rather than estimated in advance.

Versailles
Most customer gifts are bought to be handed over, not to be kept: the sweet box is finished by the family that evening, the keychain joins a drawer, the branded pen was never really a gift at all. Then the moment that cost your business lakhs to create - the new car, the new home, the big purchase - is remembered with nothing. A fragrance gift keeps that moment alive, because scent is the sense wired closest to memory: months later, your customer is still in the middle of the experience you gave them.
I trained at ISIPCA in Versailles and everything we make is built for Indian lives - car diffusers that survive a Mumbai summer, reed diffusers that hold through the monsoon, alcohol-free formulas safe to gift across every customer profile. If you run a dealership, a project, a hotel, a showroom or a team, message the bulk desk on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 - tell me the customer moment and the volumes, and I will help you design the programme myself. The business conversations are my favourite kind: one good gifting programme teaches me more about a category than a year of retail orders.
And a part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali - so your customer gift quietly gives twice. That equation has always felt right to me.
Frequently asked questions
Facts verified August 2026: Olfactory memory research shows scent-linked memories are unusually durable and emotionally vivid, which is why a used-daily fragrance gift sustains brand association in a way consumable or novelty gifts do not; customer-experience research consistently finds that peak moments (delivery, possession, checkout) disproportionately shape how the whole purchase is remembered. Fragrance preference is personal: volume gifting programmes should default to gentle fresh, green and lightly floral registers, and to space formats (diffusers, reeds, car fragrance) rather than skin perfume. SOSA range: Hotel Collection ultrasonic fragrance from Rs 299; car perfumes from Rs 449 (spray and hanging, alcohol-free); attars Nawaab, Ameeri, Mastani and Adaa from Rs 379 (3ml/6ml/12ml, alcohol-free); Attar Trio from Rs 1,055; perfumes from Rs 499; reed diffusers from Rs 749; Boond Rs 799, Sukoon Rs 1,799 and Megh Rs 3,499 ultrasonic diffusers; SOSA Safar waterless car and travel diffuser Rs 3,999 (rechargeable, three hotel-inspired scents included); SOSA Vaayu waterless scent machine Rs 11,999 (~1000m³, app + timer).
