Almost every guide to gifting your boss answers the wrong question. They tell you how to spend more. The real problem with a gift that goes upward is the opposite one: the limit you are looking for is an upper limit, and it is lower than you expect. Your boss signs your appraisal. That single fact changes what a gift can cost before it stops reading as a Diwali greeting.
Quick answers — read this first
What is the best Diwali gift for a boss? Something non-worn, useful and modestly priced. A reed diffuser at ₹749 to ₹1,349 is the cleanest single answer from one person. The attar trio set at ₹1,055 works if they choose their own scent. Avoid anything worn on the body.
How much should I spend on a Diwali gift for my boss? Roughly ₹800 to ₹1,500 if you are giving as an individual. That is an upper bound, not a target. Above that a gift to the person who reviews your work starts to read as something other than a festival greeting.
Should I give my boss an expensive Diwali gift? Not on your own. If the gift needs to be more substantial, pool it across the team and sign it from everyone. A ₹3,999 gift from eight people is generous. The same gift from one direct report is awkward for both of you.
The short answer
Short answer: Keep an individual gift to your boss between ₹800 and ₹1,500, keep it off the body, and if you want to spend more than that, make it a team gift signed by everyone.
The pick: a SOSA fragrance gift - alcohol-free, useful past January, from ₹379 a head.
Bulk: send headcount, per-head budget and cities, and we will confirm what stock can actually fill.
A corporate Diwali gift works when it is useful, appropriate to a professional relationship, and actually available in the quantity you need. SOSA's fragrance range runs from Rs 379 per head to Rs 3,999 for senior gifts, alcohol-free and handmade in India.
Work downwards from the ceiling, not upwards from the shop.
If the gift is from you alone, the comfortable band is roughly ₹800 to ₹1,500. Inside that band the best object is a reed diffuser at ₹799 for the 50ML or ₹1,299 for the 130ML. It is flame-free, needs no socket and no water, goes wherever they decide, and says nothing about them personally. The three-attar set at ₹1,055 is the other good answer, because the choice of scent stays with them rather than with you.
If the gift is from the team, the ceiling moves and so do the options. Eight people at ₹500 each buys SOSA Safar at ₹3,999, a waterless car diffuser that a senior person who drives or is driven will use every working day. Signed from everyone, it carries no individual angle at all.
What to avoid. Anything worn on skin. A perfume or a single attar chosen for your boss is a personal judgement travelling upward, and that combination is the one that lands badly. Also avoid the very expensive gesture from one person: it is the only Diwali gift that can be actively misread.
A portion of every SOSA order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
One line: from you alone, spend ₹800 to ₹1,500 on something non-worn; from the team, pool it and go to ₹3,999.
For a whole team that commutes, the honest starting point is a hanging car perfume at ₹449 - useful, gift-ready, and stocked in the thousands. For managers, a reed diffuser from ₹749.
Three constraints set the size of this gift, and price is the last of them rather than the first.
1
Ceiling
The upper limit is the one that matters
For a peer you worry about spending too little. For a boss you should worry about spending too much. A gift that is visibly expensive from a person whose work that boss assesses invites a reading you did not intend, and a good manager will feel it too. Roughly ₹1,500 is where the reading shifts. That is why the sensible objects here are a 50ML reed diffuser at ₹749, a 130ML at ₹1,349, or the attar trio at ₹1,055 - all of them solidly good and none of them loud.
Tip: If you are wondering whether a gift is too much, it probably is. That instinct is usually right.
2
Direction
A gift travelling upward is read differently
The same object means different things depending on which way it moves. A reed diffuser at ₹849 given to a peer is a nice thought. Given to a manager it is also a small statement about the working relationship, and the more personal the object, the louder that statement gets. This is why non-worn formats do the work here: a home diffuser or a car fragrance is used privately, on the recipient's terms, and needs no interpretation from anybody.
3
Structure
Who the gift comes from changes what it can cost
This is the part most guides leave out. A group gift is not a cheaper version of an individual gift - it is a different object socially. Pooled across a team and signed from everyone, a ₹3,999 Safar or a ₹2,498 130ML reed duo carries no individual angle, because no single person is the giver. If you want to be generous to a boss, change the structure before you change the budget.
Tip: Anything above about ₹1,500 should have more than one name on the card.
The SOSA principle
For a boss, the question is not what is generous enough. It is what is small enough to be easy to accept.
A manager who receives an expensive gift from a direct report has a problem to solve. A manager who receives a good reed diffuser has a nice thing on a shelf. Only one of those is a gift.
What to give, by who the gift is coming from
Once you know who the gift is from, the object almost picks itself.
If the person you are buying for is a line manager you work with every day rather than a skip-level boss, What to gift your manager deals with the extra wrinkle that your teammates can see what you gave. And if the gift you are circling is a bottle of perfume, read Is perfume too personal for a boss first, because that is the one category where the answer is usually no. The reed diffuser range and the attar collection cover most of what sits inside the individual band.
Gifting for a whole team?
Send us headcount, per-head budget and cities. If stock cannot fill the order, we will say so before you plan around it.
A gift to your boss should be easy to put down. The moment it needs explaining, it has stopped being a Diwali greeting.

Every SOSA gift is alcohol-free, long-lasting and ready to hand over, handmade in small batches in India. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Here is the edit by budget tier and by who the gift is for.
The SOSA corporate Diwali gift edit
Five tiers that cover a whole company - from a ₹379 attar to a ₹3,999 executive gift
Waterless car diffuser - the executive gift that is actually in stock
₹3,999
Two honest notes. Reed diffusers use their own alcohol-free reed oil; the Hotel Collection is a separate water-based fragrance for ultrasonic mist diffusers, and the two are not interchangeable. The Hotel Collection scents are SOSA's own interpretations - SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

A note from Sonal
Most corporate Diwali gifts fail for the same reason: they are chosen to be defensible rather than useful. A box of sweets nobody eats, dry fruits that go into a cupboard. The gift is not really for the employee - it is for the person signing it off.
The test I would apply is simple. Will this still be in use in February? A car fragrance in the car of someone who drives to work every day passes that test. So does a reed diffuser in a home office. A body-worn perfume chosen for someone you do not know well does not, because fragrance worn on skin is personal - choosing it for a colleague is a comment on how they smell, and most people quietly do not wear it.
Two honest things I would rather say than sell past. If your budget is genuinely under Rs 350 a head, fragrance is the wrong category - buy something else and come back next year. And if you need three hundred of something we hold ninety of, we will tell you, because a Diwali gift that arrives in December is worse than no gift at all. A portion of every order supports girl-child education.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best Diwali gift for your boss?
A non-worn fragrance object in the ₹800 to ₹1,500 band. A reed diffuser at ₹749 to ₹1,349 is the cleanest single answer, because it is flame-free, needs no plug or water, and the recipient decides entirely where it goes. The attar trio set at ₹1,055 is the other good option, since your boss picks the scent rather than you.
How much should I spend on a Diwali gift for my boss?
Between ₹800 and ₹1,500 if the gift is from you alone, and treat that as a ceiling rather than a target. A gift to the person who assesses your work stops reading as a festival greeting once it gets expensive. If you want to spend more, pool it across the team so no single person is the giver.
Is it appropriate to give your boss an expensive Diwali gift?
From one person, usually not. From a team, yes. A ₹3,999 gift signed by eight people is a straightforwardly generous gesture with no individual angle to it. The same gift from one direct report puts your boss in the position of working out what to do about it, which is not what you wanted.
Should I give my boss perfume or attar for Diwali?
A single worn scent, no. Choosing a fragrance for someone to wear is a personal judgement, and directed upward it is the least comfortable version of that. A three-attar set at ₹1,055 is the workaround, because the recipient chooses. Otherwise stay with home or car fragrance.
What if nobody else on my team is giving the boss a gift?
Then give something small or give nothing. A modest gift like a ₹749 reed diffuser or a ₹379 attar is fine on its own. A large solo gift when nobody else has given anything is the most conspicuous version of this problem, so if you find yourself alone, go smaller rather than bigger.
