An office staff list is not one kind of person. It is the accounts desk and the person at reception, the sales team and the office assistant, the housekeeping staff and whoever fixes the printer — different roles, different pay, and above all very different households. That is what makes the affordability question here specific. You are not looking for the cheapest gift; you are looking for the highest per-head figure at which you can give everybody the same thing. Because in an office the hierarchy is already visible in a hundred small ways, and a Diwali gift is one of the few things a company can make genuinely equal. Getting that wrong costs far more than getting the budget wrong.
Quick answers — read this first
The affordable answer for a whole office: a message-free jar candle at ₹379, identical for everyone. Forty people is ₹15,160; sixty is ₹22,740.

If the total allows a step up: the Sandalwood or Smoked Oudh candle at ₹449 — the extra ₹70 buys a material name that does the explaining for you.

The rule that matters more than the number: assume nothing about the household. No car, no ultrasonic machine, no wax warmer, nothing bought separately. A candle needs a match; that is the whole requirement, and it is why it works across a mixed list.

The honest gap: affordable and long-lasting pull against each other here. An 80g candle is roughly 15–18 hours. A 50ml reed diffuser at ₹749 runs six to eight weeks — and there is no reed below ₹749 and no machine below ₹899, so that gain is only available by raising the per-head figure, not by shopping harder.
The short answer
Short answer: pick one item and give it to the entire office. Under ₹500 that is a ₹379 jar candle or a ₹449 Sandalwood candle; at ₹749 it becomes a Morning Freshness reed diffuser. Work backwards from the total you have rather than forwards from a per-head figure you have guessed.
Why a flat list is the right structure: an office gift is opened in a shared space and compared instantly, and any difference between two gifts is read as a statement about standing whether or not you intended one. A flat list removes that reading entirely. If you must tier, tier by category rather than by a small price step — a ₹379 candle for the wider staff and a ₹799 reed for a small senior group are obviously different objects, whereas ₹379 next to ₹449 simply invites arithmetic.
On quantity, honestly: SOSA has no bulk rate, discount band, GST scheme, custom branding, minimum order or lead time. You order through the site as any customer does. For anything above roughly twenty-five units, write to us through the contact page before ordering, because availability by scent varies and a large mixed-scent order is easier to fill than a large single-scent one. Free shipping above ₹499.
Straight answer
What is an affordable Diwali gift for office staff in 2026, and how do I choose the level?
1. Start with the total, not the per-head. Divide the money you actually have by the number of names on the list, then buy the band that number lands in. ₹379 a head at forty people is ₹15,160; ₹449 at forty is ₹17,960; ₹749 at forty is ₹29,960. There are only three bands worth considering and the arithmetic decides which, not taste.

2. Buy one item for the entire office. This is the part that matters more than the amount. An office gift is opened in a shared space, compared within minutes, and any variation is read as a ranking. A flat list is the only structure that carries no message at all, and it costs nothing to choose.

3. At the affordable end, the answer is the message-free jar candle at ₹379. Four scents — Bookshop, Cozy Corner, Misty Mornings, Evening Walks — hand-poured soy, 80g, roughly 15–18 hours, plain glass with nothing printed on it. It needs a match and nothing else, which is exactly the property a mixed staff list requires.

4. Spend the extra ₹70 if the total allows it. The Sandalwood and Smoked Oudh candles at ₹449 are the same build with a material name on the jar, and a named material arrives already explained. Nobody has to have heard of the brand to know what sandalwood is.

5. Assume nothing about the household. No car, so a car perfume is out for a general list. No ultrasonic machine, so the ₹299 Hotel Collection 15ml — which is a refill for one — is out at any price. No wax warmer, so wax melts at ₹474 are out. Anything that needs a second purchase before it works is not an affordable gift, it is a partial one.

Alcohol-free, phthalate-free, paraben-free, IFRA-compliant, 0 ppm formaldehyde. Composed in Pune. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
TL;DR: one item for the whole office, chosen by dividing the total by the headcount. ₹379 jar candles for the affordable band, ₹449 Sandalwood or Smoked Oudh when the total stretches, ₹749 Morning Freshness when it stretches a great deal further. Assume no car, no machine and no warmer. No reed exists below ₹749 and no machine below ₹899.
SOSA Bookshop scented soy jar candle in plain glass
The one that makes a flat list affordable
Message-free jar candles ₹379
Four scents — Bookshop, Cozy Corner, Misty Mornings, Evening Walks — hand-poured soy in plain glass, 80g, roughly 15–18 hours. Nothing is printed on the front, which is doing real work in an office: a slogan turns a present into a comment, and a comment is the last thing you want on a gift crossing a workplace hierarchy. At ₹379 this is the figure that makes a genuinely flat list possible on most budgets, and a flat list is worth more than an extra ₹70 of anything. Forty is ₹15,160; sixty is ₹22,740.

Three things an office gift must not assume

A staff list is the widest range of households any of us buy for. Somebody on it drives to work and somebody takes two buses. Somebody has a kitchen with a granite counter and somebody shares one. Every assumption you build into the gift excludes part of the list, and the exclusion is invisible to you and obvious to them. These three are the ones I see go wrong most often, and they are the reason the affordable answer keeps coming back to a candle.

1
ASSUMPTION ONE · THAT THEY OWN SOMETHING
Anything requiring hardware is a partial gift, not an affordable one
SOSA Cozy Corner scented jar candleCozy Corner₹379The moment a recipient realises they need to buy or already own something else before your present works, the register changes from gift to part of a gift. Wax melts at ₹474 look like good value and need a warmer. The ₹299 Hotel Collection 15ml is a water-based refill for an ultrasonic machine, the cheapest of which is ₹899 — without that machine it does nothing at all, and it is not a standalone gift at any price. Car perfumes at ₹449–₹509 are excellent objects and assume a car, which a meaningful fraction of any staff list does not have. A candle assumes a match. That is the entire dependency, and it is why it survives a mixed list.
Test: if you cannot use it within a minute of opening it, it is not complete.
2
ASSUMPTION TWO · THAT IT IS FOR THEM ALONE
The gift is opened at home, usually in front of a family
SOSA Misty Mornings scented jar candleMisty Mornings₹379A personal gift from an employer has to clear a bar that a household gift does not: it has to be right for the individual, and you do not know the individual well enough. This is why I would keep attars and solid perfumes off a general staff list despite their being inside the budget at ₹379–₹399 and ₹459–₹549. A personal fragrance is an opinion about somebody's body, and that is not a message an employer should be sending across a desk. A home fragrance is room-addressed. It is used by whoever is in the room, it requires no taste on the recipient's part, and it arrives as a gift to a household rather than as a comment on a person.
Rule: from an employer, address the room. Never the person.
3
ASSUMPTION THREE · THAT NOBODY IS COMPARING
They are, within about ninety seconds, and it is not unkind of them
SOSA Evening Walks scented jar candleEvening Walks₹379Gifts handed out in a workplace are looked at sideways immediately, and that is a normal human response rather than a failure of character. It has one practical consequence: consistency is worth more than value. Thirty identical ₹379 candles read as a decision. Twenty-two ₹449 candles and eight ₹379 ones because you ran short read as a ranking, and no explanation afterwards undoes it. This is also the argument against decoration and against anything with a printed message. SOSA does make candles with lines printed on them and they are the wrong object in a workplace entirely — the plain jar is both the safer choice and, at this price, the better-looking one.
Cost of getting this right: nothing. It is a decision, not a purchase.

The flat list, and how to tier only if you must

I would give the same gift to everybody in an office and I would do it deliberately rather than by default. The reasoning is not sentimental. In every other respect the hierarchy of an organisation is already legible to the people inside it — who sits where, who is in which meeting, who is on which call. A Diwali gift is one of the very few artefacts a company produces that does not have to encode any of that, and choosing to make it encode a grade is a decision you are making for no gain. The gift is not compensation. It does not need to be proportional to anything.

If you do have to tier — because a leadership group is being thanked for something specific, or because a vendor list is genuinely different from a staff list — then tier openly and keep each tier internally identical. And make the tiers differ by category rather than by a visible price step. A ₹379 candle for the wider staff and an Evening Calm reed diffuser at ₹799 for six people are so obviously different objects that nobody attempts a comparison; ₹379 sitting next to ₹449 is a comparison with the answer printed on it. Nobody is offended by a structure they can see. People are offended by an inconsistency they cannot explain.

One practical note on ordering a flat list. Each item is stocked separately, which means a large single-scent order is harder to fill than a large mixed-scent one. If you need sixty of one jar candle, that is a conversation worth having before you place the order rather than after. There is no bulk programme here — no rate card, no discount band, no branding, no minimum order and no lead-time promise — but for anything above roughly twenty-five units, write through the contact page and ask. A flat list can also be flat by tier of object rather than by scent: sixty candles at ₹379, split across the four scents by team, still reads as one decision.

The three bands, with the arithmetic done

Divide your total by your headcount and find the row it lands in. I have deliberately not put anything between ₹449 and ₹749 on this table, because there is nothing there worth buying for an office — the candle two-pack at ₹664 is a lovely gift for a close team of six and an odd one for a floor of forty, since it is two objects rather than a better one.

Per head, and what the total comes to
Three affordable bands for a flat office list
Per head What it buys 20 people 40 people 60 people
₹379 ★ Message-free jar candle, 80g, roughly 15–18 hours ₹7,580 ₹15,160 ₹22,740
₹449 Sandalwood or Smoked Oudh candle — the same build, with a material name ₹8,980 ₹17,960 ₹26,940
₹664 Candle two-pack — two objects rather than a better one ₹13,280 ₹26,560 ₹39,840

The SOSA principle
An office already tells everybody where they sit. A Diwali gift is one of the few things that does not have to.
Which is why the flat list is not a cost-saving measure. It is the design.

The affordable shelf, item by item

Everything worth considering for an office at an affordable per-head figure, with the reasons I would leave several of them off the list despite their price being right.

Scored for a mixed office list
Complete on arrival · right from an employer · assumes nothing
Item Complete on arrival Right from an employer Verdict for an office Price
Message-free jar candles Yes — needs a match Yes — room-addressed, no slogan The flat-list answer at most budgets ₹379
Sandalwood / Smoked Oudh candle Yes Yes — a material name arrives explained The step up worth taking when the total allows ₹449
Candle two-pack Yes Yes Right for a close team of six; odd for a floor of forty ₹664
Morning Freshness 50ml reed Yes — six fibre reeds included Yes The band where the gift lasts 6–8 weeks rather than a few evenings ₹749
Everyday Beautiful Mugs Yes Yes Fine, but an office already has mugs and so does every household ₹474
Car perfumes 12ml Yes Yes Assumes a car — wrong for a general staff list ₹449–₹509
3ml attars, solid perfumes Yes No — a personal fragrance is too personal from an employer Leave off a general list ₹379–₹549
Wax melts / Hotel Collection 15ml No — needs a warmer / needs an ultrasonic machine Not a standalone gift at any price ₹474 / ₹299
The number you are looking for is not the cheapest one. It is the highest figure at which everybody in the building still receives exactly the same thing.

The paragraph in favour of sweets, which I mean sincerely

In a small office, a box of mithai from a halwai everybody knows is a genuinely good Diwali gift and I am not going to argue otherwise. It is the expected form of the greeting, it is opened and shared in the room rather than carried away, and that shared half-hour on the last working day is a real thing that no wrapped object supplies. Where the office is small enough to feel like a household, or where the sweets are handed round alongside a meal, they are correct and a candle in their place would be a substitution nobody asked for.

The case against them on a large staff list is arrival and attribution. A well-liked employee receives several boxes across the festive days and the marginal one is passed on rather than eaten. In an office specifically there is a second failure: a box set down in a common area becomes a shared bowl by noon and nobody remembers who sent it. The gift dissolves into the room. And sweets raise dietary questions that are awkward to navigate at a desk — the colleague managing diabetes, the household fasting, the family avoiding dairy. A candle carried home has none of that exposure and is attributed to you every time it is lit. Where yours is the only box, buy sweets. Where it is one of six, buy the candle.

What to buy for office staff on an affordable budget

In buying order, with the honest gap on the last row.

The affordable office edit
What to buy, at what headcount, and what an affordable budget cannot do
Buy What it is When it is the right answer Price
1. Message-free jar candle Hand-poured soy in plain glass, 80g, roughly 15–18 hours, four scents Any office where the flat list is the priority and the headcount is high ₹379
2. Sandalwood candle The same build with a material name an Indian household already respects When the total allows ₹70 a head more; the best-value step on this page ₹449
3. Smoked Oudh candle A deeper, smokier register in the same plain glass Younger offices, or as the second scent in a deliberate split by team ₹449
4. Morning Freshness 50ml The cheapest reed diffuser, six fibre reeds, refillable glass, 6–8 weeks Smaller offices where ₹749 a head is genuinely affordable ₹749
The honest gap: duration cannot be bought cheaply An 80g candle is roughly 15–18 hours; a 50ml reed diffuser is 6–8 weeks. There is no reed below ₹749 and no ultrasonic machine below ₹899, so the only way to buy duration is to raise the per-head figure If a gift still working in December matters more than the headcount, shorten the list ₹749
Honest notes for buyers: the ₹449 singles and the ₹379 jars are the same hand-poured soy build in plain glass with no printed message; SOSA's message candles exist and are the wrong object in a workplace. Wax melts at ₹474 need a warmer the household must already own, and the ₹299 Hotel Collection 15ml is a water-based refill for an ultrasonic machine rather than a gift. There is no SOSA bulk programme — no bulk rate, discount band, GST scheme, custom branding, minimum order or lead time; for more than roughly twenty-five units, write through the contact page first, because availability by scent varies and a large mixed-scent order is easier than a large single-scent one. Everything is alcohol-free, phthalate-free, paraben-free, IFRA-compliant and 0 ppm formaldehyde. Reed diffusers begin at ₹749 with six fibre reeds in a refillable glass bottle and run 6–8 weeks on 50ml. SOSA does not sell a gift set, gift hamper, gift box, gift card, gift wrap, gift note or personalisation, and every SOSA spray is a car perfume rather than a room spray. Free shipping above ₹499. Composed in Pune by an ISIPCA Versailles-trained perfumer. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand.
SOSA hand-poured soy scented candle in plain glass
The ₹70 that changes how the gift arrives
Sandalwood Scented Candle ₹449
The difference between the ₹379 jars and this one is not the wax or the glass; it is the name. A staff gift arrives without a card, without a speech and usually without the giver present, so anything that explains itself is worth paying for. Sandalwood needs no explaining in an Indian home. Across forty people the upgrade costs ₹2,800, and it is the most useful ₹2,800 on this page. Smoked Oudh at ₹449 does the same job in a deeper register for a younger office.

A note from Sonal

The word affordable gets used as though it means cheap, and in a workplace it does not. What it means is the highest figure at which you can still give everybody the same thing, and that is a much more interesting number to look for. I would rather see an office give sixty identical ₹379 candles than forty good gifts and twenty apologies, and I have seen both.

The second thing I would say is about assumption. We make car perfumes and I am fond of them, and they are the wrong gift for a general staff list because a good part of any staff list does not drive. The same logic removes the wax melts and removes the ₹299 refill, which people keep finding on the store and mistaking for a gift — it is a refill for a machine and does nothing without one. A gift that quietly excludes part of a list is worse than a plainer gift that includes all of it.

And the thing I cannot do anything about, so I will simply state it. At ₹379 or ₹449 you are giving something well made, complete and correctly pitched, and it will be finished within a week or two of being lit. Duration begins at ₹749 and there is no reed below it and no machine below ₹899. If a gift still working in December is what you want, the honest route is a shorter list, not a cleverer search. Everything is composed in Pune, and a part of every order funds a girl's classroom through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good affordable Diwali gift for office staff?
A message-free jar candle at ₹379, given identically to everybody — hand-poured soy in plain glass, 80g, roughly 15–18 hours, and complete in the box. Forty people is ₹15,160. If the total allows ₹70 a head more, the Sandalwood candle at ₹449 is the same build with a material name that explains the gift for you.
Should senior staff get a different gift?
Only if you are prepared for it to be read as a statement, because it will be. A flat list carries no message at all, which is its advantage. If you must tier, make the tiers differ by category rather than by a small price step — a ₹379 candle for the wider staff and an Evening Calm reed diffuser at ₹799 for a small group are obviously different objects, whereas ₹379 next to ₹449 simply invites arithmetic.
Are car perfumes or wax melts a good affordable office gift?
Not for a general staff list. Car perfumes at ₹449–₹509 are good objects and assume a car, which a meaningful part of any office does not have. Wax melts at ₹474 assume a warmer. And the ₹299 Hotel Collection 15ml is a water-based refill for an ultrasonic machine — without the machine it does nothing, so it is not a standalone gift at any price. An affordable gift has to be complete on arrival or it is not a gift, it is a component.
Does SOSA give a discount for a large office order?
No. There is no published bulk rate, discount band, GST arrangement, custom branding, minimum order or lead-time promise, and I would rather state that than let you plan around something that does not exist. You order through the site as any customer does. For anything above roughly twenty-five units, write to us through the contact page first, because availability by scent varies and a large mixed-scent order is easier to fill than a large single-scent one.
Is there a reed diffuser cheap enough for a whole office?
That depends entirely on the headcount, because there is no cheap reed diffuser — the line begins at Morning Freshness 50ml at ₹749 and there is nothing below it. Twenty people at ₹749 is ₹14,980, which many offices can do; sixty is ₹44,940, which most cannot. Below that figure the honest answer is the ₹449 or ₹379 candle, and it is a good answer rather than a consolation.
