Why favour consumables here? Because a house built to be kept rewards a gift that returns. A refill can be given again every year; a one-off object cannot.
Is the machine a long-term gift? It is the right product for a large connected home, but no lifespan is claimed for it here - and its oils are a separate recurring purchase.
These houses are built to be kept
There is a category of house that changes how a gift should be chosen, and it is common here: the house a family built for itself and intends to keep. Not a two-year posting, not an investment to be sold when the market moves, but a building paid for over years, designed around how that family actually lives, with the intention that children grow up in it and possibly inherit it. People buying gifts for such a house often reach for something commemorative - an engraved piece, a decorative object, something that marks the occasion - and those are lovely, but they have a common fate: admired, placed, dusted for a few years, eventually stored. The alternative test, and the better one for this kind of house, is whether the gift is still in use in five years. Home fragrance passes that test unusually well, but only if it is chosen with repeatability in mind rather than impact, and that means understanding which parts of it last and which parts are designed to be replaced. Reed diffusers are the clearest case. The bottle is a permanent object - glass, a proper closure, a shape that sits on a hall table for years. The reeds are a replaceable part: they saturate over weeks and slow down, and the correct response is a fresh set rather than concluding the product has failed, which is the single most useful piece of ownership advice in this category and one almost nobody is told. And the oil is a consumable with an obvious repeat: a three hundred millilitre refill at two thousand three hundred and ninety-nine rupees or five hundred millilitres at three thousand four hundred and ninety-nine. So one good decision made at a housewarming turns into a gift you can give again at Diwali, at a birthday, and every year after that, and it is welcome every time because it is something the household actually uses rather than something it must find room for. That is a structurally better present than an ornament of the same price. The registers are worth choosing with some care for a house meant to be lived in for a long time, because a household tends to settle on one or two and keep returning to them. Mountain Breeze at eight hundred and forty-nine rupees for fifty millilitres and one thousand three hundred and forty-nine for one hundred and thirty is Himalayan pine, sage and cedar, dry and resinous, and it sits naturally with the teak and rosewood that houses built to be kept tend to contain. Morning Freshness at seven hundred and forty-nine and one thousand two hundred and forty-nine is Malabar lemon with peppermint and eucalyptus, which reads clean and is the safest choice for an entrance or a room near a kitchen. Fresh Brew at eight hundred and forty-nine and one thousand three hundred and forty-nine is Coorg coffee with Kerala vanilla, good in a study or a dining room. Evening Calm at seven hundred and ninety-nine and one thousand two hundred and ninety-nine is lavender with chamomile and is the standard bedroom answer. Garden Bloom at the same is British rose with night-blooming jasmine, which is best in an interior room in a house with a garden, because a floral indoors competes with the florals coming in through an open window. A duo set at one thousand four hundred and ninety-eight to two thousand five hundred and ninety-eight rupees is where most housewarming gifts should sit: two registers, two rooms, complete in the box, nothing to install, and a gift that continues into refills afterwards. Now the machine, treated honestly on the same test. The SOSA Vaayu at eleven thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine rupees is the right product for a genuinely large connected home - roughly two thousand square feet and up - because it does the one thing bottles cannot, which is hold a whole connected volume at one even strength including the entrance, hallway, stairwell and landing where no bottle can stand. It is a waterless cold-air nebuliser, so pressurised air breaks undiluted oil into a dry nano-mist with no water, no heat, no dampness and no oily film. Coverage up to a thousand cubic metres, stated as about two thousand to three thousand square feet. Four hundred millilitre tank lasting up to around seventy-five days a fill. Bluetooth app plus onboard buttons, one, four, eight and twenty-four hour windows, day selection, adjustable intensity. Under thirty-eight decibels, twelve volts at five watts, nine hundred grams, black or white, freestanding on a shelf or wall and HVAC mountable, auto-stop and key lock, CE, RoHS and SGS, made in India, four one hundred millilitre hotel-inspired oils included so it runs the first evening, and refills of waterless nebuliser oil at one thousand and forty-nine rupees for a hundred grams or one thousand eight hundred and forty-nine for three hundred - never the water-based Hotel Collection at two hundred and ninety-nine rupees, which is a separate system for ultrasonic diffusers. Two honesty points about it on a long horizon, because this page is about longevity. We do not publish a lifespan figure for the unit and will not invent one - it is an appliance with a pump and a controller, and how long any particular one lasts depends on use, and any number given here would be a guess dressed as a specification. What can be said is that it is a replaceable-consumable design rather than a sealed one: the tank refills, the oils are bought separately, and it does not depend on a proprietary cartridge. And its oils being a separate recurring purchase is the same advantage the bottles have - a refill is next year's gift. Three closing notes for these houses. Many are built in stages and occupied before completion, so freshly finished portions need air rather than fragrance, and a machine should wait until the work stops and the final connected volume is known. Single-storey houses on large plots have no stairwell to lift fragrance and usually no ducting, so ceiling fans on low are the distribution system and the unit belongs in the central circulation near one. And a courtyard, veranda or garden cannot be scented at all; a candle from six hundred and ninety-nine rupees works within a metre or so of where people sit, sheltered and never unattended. Where a smell has a cause, fragrance is a finishing touch and never a fix.
So judge the gift on whether it can be repeated, not on whether it is impressive

Versailles
The Vaayu is the most expensive thing we make and we turn down more orders for it than for anything else in the range. Not because we do not want to sell it - because most homes do not need it. It covers up to a thousand cubic metres, roughly two to three thousand square feet, and that is a villa, a penthouse, a large open-plan flat or a house with a double-height room. An ordinary 2BHK is not that, and in an ordinary 2BHK a reed diffuser at seven hundred and forty-nine rupees does the job better than eleven thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine rupees of machine would. So the question we ask is never what somebody spent on their house. It is how many cubic metres of air are in it.
The second thing we say, and almost nobody expects it, is wait a few weeks. A brand-new home smells of paint, varnish, polish, cement and new wood, and those are not smells to cover - they need open windows and time, and they go on their own. Give the machine at the housewarming by all means, but tell them the scenting starts once the building has finished smelling of being built. It is the same rule we apply to a new car, for the same reason: adding fragrance to a smell that is fading anyway is how a good product gets blamed for a bad result.
Two honest limits. Reed diffusers do not fail in large homes, they simply do not reach - a diffuser on a console table scents the area around that console table, which is not a fault, it is physics, and several of them is a real alternative to one machine. And there are two machines above the Vaayu, the Angaan and the Meenar, which are HVAC units for showrooms and hotel floors rather than houses - so if a home is genuinely far beyond three thousand square feet, message us rather than assuming more money solves it.
