"I asked which one suited a city that is hot ten months a year and got a straight answer instead of a sales pitch. Adaa has been right every single day since. One dab, and that is the whole routine."

Indian weather produces three distinct conditions - dry heat, humid warmth and dry cold - and each fragrance family handles them differently. Here is the performance table, family by family, with no diplomacy.
Quick answers — read this first
Which families perform best? Green-aromatic and clean musk clear all three conditions. Dry woods clear two and a half.
Which perform worst? Gourmand and sweet floral. Both fail in dry heat by swelling and in humidity by hanging.
What is the pattern? Every family that fails is a sweet one. Sugar is the single variable that decides.
The short answer
Two variables decide almost everything. How dry the composition is, and how much you apply. Dry clears every Indian condition; dose moves opposite to temperature.
The non-negotiable. An oil base rather than alcohol. It behaves on sweating skin, damp skin and cracked winter skin alike. Every SOSA attar is alcohol-free and DPG-free.
SOSA in one line. Alcohol-free, DPG-free, IFRA-compliant attars on a jojoba and Mysore sandalwood base, 6-8 hours on skin, 3ml / 6ml / 12ml, ₹379-₹1,199, hand-blended in Pune.
Start here.Adaa 3ml at ₹379 is the safest first purchase in almost any Indian climate - and cheap enough that being wrong costs very little.
Illustrative only. Almost every 'which should I buy' question in Indian fragrance resolves to the same two variables: how dry the composition is, and how much of it you apply.
So which fragrance families perform best in Indian weather?
Green-aromatic and clean musk, clearing all three conditions; dry woods close behind. The pattern underneath is simple: every family that fails an Indian condition fails because of sugar. Gourmand swells in dry heat and hangs in humidity. Sweet floral does the same. Amber is a cold-weather register for the same reason. Citrus performs well everywhere but needs anchoring; light floral performs well everywhere its base is dry. Adaa sits in the two best-performing families at once.
Short version: every family that fails is a sweet one. Sugar is the single variable that decides performance here.
Want the short path?Adaa is green-aromatic over clean musk - the two best-performing families.
Assessed against three conditions: dry heat above 38°C, humid warmth above 70% relative humidity, and dry cold below 15°C.
How to answer any of these questions
Almost every which attar should I buy question resolves to two variables: how dry the composition is, and how much you apply. Dry compositions clear all three Indian conditions; sweet ones are seasonal. Dose moves opposite to temperature.
1
Criterion one
Best performers: green-aromatic and clean musk
Green-aromatic - cardamom, neroli, herbs - does not swell in heat, does not hang in humidity, and scales up in cold. Clean white musk has no failure mode at all: it blends on sweating skin, stays close in wet air, and holds when cold suppresses everything lighter. Its only weakness is being imperceptible if underdosed in January.
2
Criterion two
Strong: dry woods and citrus
Dry woods - real sandalwood, white oud, cedar - excel in cold, excel on cool wet days and are wearable in heat at one dab. Citrus performs well in every condition but is volatile by nature and needs an anchor everywhere, which is a construction issue rather than a family failure.
Entirely dependent on the base. A light floral over clean musk clears all three conditions; a sweet floral over vanilla and tonka is a cold-weather and evening register. The flowers never decide this; the base does.
4
Criterion four
Weakest: gourmand, sweet amber, sweet fruit
All fail in two of India's three conditions - swelling into syrup in dry heat and hanging in humid air. They are excellent in cold weather and after dark, which means they are seasonal rather than poor. Buy them for what they are and they will not disappoint you.

Where SOSA sits - and where another attar might suit you better
My four attars are deliberately spread across this table - one in the top row, one in the strong row, two in the seasonal one. That spread is what an honest range looks like.
The honest position
Sugar is the single variable behind every failure.
Where I think we earn a place on your shortlist: a range placed openly on this table with materials named, so you can check the placement yourself. Where another house might suit you better: single-material attars from any of these families will give you more of that family than a composition can.
Three things these buying questions usually get wrong
✕
"There is a right bottle for my situation." More often there is a right dose. Most situational problems are solved by applying less or more of what you already own.
✕
"Gender narrows the choice." It narrows it wrongly. Climate and dose decide how a fragrance behaves; the label on the box decides nothing at all.
✕
"Buying blind online is risky." Less so with an attar, because a 3ml costs ₹379 - reviews here are illustrative, not a guarantee, so test rather than trust them.
Place any bottle on this table before buying and you will know its season. Adaa sits in the top row; Nawaab sits in the seasonal one, honestly.
The SOSA attar range
All four are alcohol-free and DPG-free in 3ml, 6ml and 12ml. Adaa: green-aromatic and clean musk. Ameeri: rose and dry wood. Mastani: sweet floral. Nawaab: dry wood and amber.
Most of the questions I am asked have the same shape: here is my climate and my day, what should I buy? After a decade of answering them, I have come to think almost all of them resolve to two variables - how dry the composition is, and how much you apply.
Dry compositions clear all three of India's conditions: they do not swell in heat, hang in humidity, or fall apart in cold. Sweet ones are seasonal by nature - which is fine as long as you buy them knowing it. And dose moves opposite to temperature: less when it is hot, more when it is cold. That is genuinely most of it.
Everything I make is alcohol-free and DPG-free on a jojoba and Mysore sandalwood base, and every material is named on the listing so you can place it on that map yourself. If another house does the same and you prefer their composition, buy theirs.
Frequently asked questions
Does my city matter more than the season?
Often, yes. The difference between Delhi and Chennai on the same afternoon is larger than the difference between May and December in Bangalore. Choose for your climate, then adjust by month.
Which SOSA attar should I buy first?
Adaa in 3ml at ₹379 - bergamot, green cardamom, neroli, jasmine sambac and white musk. It is the safest first purchase in almost any Indian climate and cheap enough that being wrong costs very little.
How do I decide how much to apply?
Dose moves opposite to temperature: one dab when it is hot, one or two in humidity, two or three when it is genuinely cold. Apply at the base of the throat on dry - or in winter, moisturised - skin.
Which size should I buy?
3ml (₹379-₹399) to discover, 6ml (₹669-₹699) for daily wear, 12ml (₹1,149-₹1,199) for best value at roughly half the per-ml cost of the 3ml.
Is it safe to buy an attar online without smelling it?
With a 3ml at ₹379, yes - the cost of being wrong is small, and a listing that names its materials and states hours on skin gives you far more to go on than a marketing description. Buy small, test for a month, then commit.
