People buy a good diffuser, then set it down wherever there is a spare inch — usually right beside the laptop — and wonder why the scent seems to vanish by mid-morning. The fix is almost always placement, not fragrance. Put the diffuser about an arm's length away, slightly raised, off to one side, and the room does the rest.

Quick answer

The spot: arm's length from where you sit, on a side shelf or low cabinet, raised a little above desk height.

Not here: directly under your nose, right next to the laptop, or in the path of an AC vent or open window.

Protect the surface: stand the Sukoon on a coaster or mat, not bare wood — the mist is cool but constant.

The short version
Short answer: Arm's length, slightly raised, to one side — never under your nose or beside electronics.
The pick: a Sukoon ₹1,799 on a side shelf for a room-sized study; a Boond ₹799 on a bookshelf for a small corner desk.
Run it: in 30–60 minute sessions with a fresh Hotel Collection cast, then off.

Here is the physics of it, kept simple. An ultrasonic diffuser lifts an ultra-fine cool mist of water and fragrance into the air. Close up, that mist has not yet dispersed — so if the machine sits directly under your nose, you get a brief, almost damp hit of scent, your nose adapts within a couple of minutes, and then you smell almost nothing while the mist quietly settles on your keyboard. Give it a little distance and height, and the mist has room to break up and rise, so what reaches you is fragrance carried in dry-feeling air rather than moisture on your skin. That is why arm's length beats desktop, and why a shelf a little above the desk beats the desk itself.

The placement rules
Where to put the diffuser, and where not to

1. Arm's length, to the side. Roughly 60–90 cm from your chair, on a side shelf or the far corner of the desk — not between you and the screen.

2. Slightly raised. A shelf a little above desk height lets the scent drift gently down to nose level.

3. Away from electronics. Keep the mist clear of your laptop vent, monitor and plug points.

4. Out of the draught. An AC vent, fan or open window will carry the scent away before it reaches you.

5. On a coaster. Protect wood from the cool mist that settles around the base over a long session.

In one line: arm's length, slightly raised, out of the draught — placement fixes a "weak" scent far more often than more fragrance does.

The side shelf
Why it beats the desktop every time
SOSA Sukoon ultrasonic diffuser placed on a home office side shelfSOSA Sukoon₹1,799

A Sukoon is sized for a room, not for six inches of desk. Set it on a side shelf, a low bookcase or a filing cabinet an arm's length away, and the scent settles evenly around where you sit instead of blasting your face and fading. The bonus is a clear desk — no diffuser jostling your notebook, no mist near the machine you are typing on. If your study is a proper room, one Sukoon on a shelf handles it comfortably. Run a clean, fresh cast and the space reads like a well-kept hotel workroom rather than a spare bedroom with a laptop in it.

Tip: if the scent feels faint, don't add fragrance — first check you haven't parked it in an AC draught or too far across the room.
2
Small desk, small device
When a Boond is the smarter fit
SOSA Boond 300ml mini diffuser for a small home office deskSOSA Boond₹799

If your home office is a corner of a room or a compact study, a full room diffuser is more than you need. The Boond at 300ml is the right scale — tuck it on a bookshelf behind you or to one side, and it scents a small workspace without ever crowding the desk. Same rules apply: keep it off bare wood, out of a draught, and run it in sessions so a small closed room does not build up humidity. It also runs the same ₹299 Hotel Collection fragrance, so you lose nothing on scent quality.

Tip: behind you on a shelf is often ideal in a tiny room — the scent reaches you on the air without the device ever being in your eyeline.

All-day scent wanted Waterless, no mist to place carefully Vaayu
A session-run ultrasonic diffuser is a desk companion, not a machine to run twelve hours a day. For that, the waterless Vaayu adds no moisture at all.
A "weak" diffuser is nearly always a misplaced one.
Sonal Sahani · SOSA

One honest caveat for Indian homes. Because an ultrasonic diffuser scents on a cool mist, it adds mild humidity — fine in a dry Pune winter, less welcome in a closed Mumbai study during monsoon. Good placement helps, but the real control is time: run it in short sessions rather than all day, and never let the mist land on electronics. If you truly want fragrance running through a full working day without a drop of added moisture, the waterless Vaayu is the tool for that, and it schedules itself through the app so placement stops being a daily decision. Frequently asked
Where should you place an ultrasonic diffuser in a home office?
About an arm's length from where you sit, slightly raised on a side shelf or a low cabinet, and off to one side rather than directly in front of your face. That distance lets the fine mist disperse and lift so what reaches you is fragrance in the air, not damp on your skin. Raising it a little helps the scent drift down to nose height. Keep it clear of your laptop and papers, away from any air-conditioning draught, and on a coaster or mat rather than bare wood.
Should the diffuser go right on my desk?
Not directly under your nose. When an ultrasonic diffuser sits inches from your face, two things go wrong: the scent is briefly overwhelming and then your nose adapts and stops registering it, and the cool mist settles on your desk and devices. A side shelf or the far corner of the desk at arm's length is better. You still get a steady, clean fragrance, but the mist has room to disperse into air rather than land on your keyboard.
Is it safe to keep a diffuser near a laptop or electronics?
Keep a small, sensible gap. An ultrasonic diffuser releases a fine cool mist, and while it is not a spray, you do not want that mist settling directly on a laptop vent, a monitor or a plug point over hours of use. A foot or two of clearance and a slightly raised position solves it — the mist lifts and disperses before it can settle. Placing the diffuser on a side shelf rather than between you and the screen is the simplest way to keep electronics clear.
Does placement affect how strong the scent feels?
Yes, more than people expect. Too close and your nose fatigues fast, so a strong scent seems to vanish within minutes. Too far, or in the path of an AC vent or open window, and the fragrance is carried away before it reaches you. The sweet spot is arm's length, slightly raised, out of any draught, so a gentle, even level of scent settles around your desk. If it feels weak, check for a draught first before assuming you need more fragrance.
What if my home office is very small?
A small study or a desk in a corner does not need much. A compact Boond at 300ml on a nearby shelf is often plenty, and even a Sukoon should be run in short sessions rather than continuously so a small closed room does not build up humidity. Put the device behind you or to one side on a bookshelf, run it for half an hour at a time, and let the scent linger. In a small room, less mist and good placement beat a machine running all day.

Raised, to one side, out of the draught, on a coaster — the simplest way to make a fresh workspace scent last. A budget Boond does the same in a small study.
