The wrong spot for a diffuser is not just a wasted machine - it is scent drifting over open equipment, or fading two metres from the door. Place the diffuser where the air already moves and where the customer already slows down - the entrance, the display floor, the demo zone - and keep it away from open stock, vents and the stockroom.
Quick answers — read this first
Where does the diffuser actually go? On the customer path, roughly at head height, near the point where air is already circulating - the entrance line and the main display floor. A
SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) placed just inside the door and angled into the room does more than three units scattered at random.
How far from the stock should it sit? At least two to three metres from open shelving and never directly above equipment. Because the
Vaayu is waterless it adds no humidity, which is why it can sit on the floor near the browse without any risk to the machines.
What about a small mobile shop? One well-placed unit near the display counter is plenty - a
Sukoon (₹1,799) on a shelf behind the counter, aimed across the room rather than at the customer's face.

Straight answer
Where should you place a fragrance diffuser in an electronics store?
1. Start at the entrance. The first two metres inside the door is where a customer decides whether this feels like a premium room or the street they just left. Put your primary unit here, angled inward.
2. Cover the display floor next. This is where dwell time is earned, so the signature needs to be present but never obvious across the whole browse.
3. Reinforce the demo zone. Where a customer sits through a laptop or TV demo, a light, steady scent keeps them settled - place a unit nearby but never over the gear.
4. Respect the no-scent zones. Open shelving, air-conditioning vents, the repair bench and the stockroom get nothing - scent the browse, protect the stock.
5. Let airflow do the spreading. Place near a return-air path or the natural draught from the door, so the machine carries rather than fights the room.

One line: put a waterless
SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) at the entrance angled onto the display floor, away from open stock - placement matters more than turning it up.
Why placement beats intensity every time
1
THE PRINCIPLE
Scent the browse, protect the stock
Vaayu · scheduled₹11,999 An electronics store is really two rooms wearing one roof - the part the customer touches and the part that holds your stock. The customer path wants a signature; the stock wants clean, still, dry air. The whole art of placement is drawing the line between them. A diffuser belongs on the browse side, near the entrance and display floor, and never over open equipment or feeding a vent that pushes air across your shelves. Get that boundary right and everything else is fine-tuning.
Tip: Walk your floor as a customer would, then place the unit where you naturally slow down.
2
HEIGHT & ANGLE
Head height, aimed into the room
Sukoon · counter₹1,799 A diffuser at floor level scents ankles; one on a high shelf scents the ceiling. You want the plume released around head height and angled across the room rather than at a wall or a customer's face. On the display floor that usually means a freestanding unit or a wall mount about one-and-a-half to two metres up. The goal is a soft, even wash that a customer reads as
atmosphere, not a column of fragrance they can point at.
Tip: If a customer can locate the machine by smell, it is too strong or too close.
3
WATERLESS NEAR STOCK
Why the machine type decides the spot
Vaayu · scheduled₹11,999 An ultrasonic diffuser mists a little water into the air, which is fine over a counter but not something you want drifting near open circuit boards or camera sensors. A waterless nebuliser like the Vaayu adds no moisture at all, so it can sit on the display floor close to the browse without any residue risk. That is why, near stock, the machine type effectively chooses the placement for you - waterless can go where water-based should not.
Tip: In humid coastal cities, keep everything waterless anywhere near equipment.
The guide's hero system SOSA Vaayu · Waterless Cold-Air Machine ₹11,999 Up to 1000m³ from one unit, Bluetooth app with 1/4/8/24h run windows, under 38 dB, and no water - so nothing is adding humidity to a showroom full of stock. Freestanding or wall-mounted. View this system →
Reading your own store's airflow
Before you fix a single machine to a wall, stand in your doorway on a trading morning and feel where the air goes. Every store has a prevailing draught - from the entrance, from a split-AC unit, from an extractor at the back - and that draught is your free distribution system. Place a diffuser slightly upstream of the zone you want to scent and the room does the spreading for you. Place it downstream and you spend fragrance pushing against the current.
The mistake I see most often is a unit set right beneath an air-conditioning return. It looks tidy, but the return pulls the scent straight out of the room and, worse, can carry it across your shelves. Keep diffusers away from returns and out of the direct throw of supply vents. In a larger showroom the cleaner answer is to stop fighting the ducting altogether and scent through it - which is exactly what a ducted system is designed to do.

The three systems an electronics store actually needs
The SOSA principle
A diffuser in the wrong place is not a weaker version of the right one - it is a different product entirely, one that spends fragrance and returns nothing.
Move the same machine two metres onto the customer path and away from the vent, and a store owner who thought scent did not work suddenly discovers it does.
Audition two, keep one Hotel Collection Fragrance From ₹299 SOSA's own interpretations of the world's finest hotel scents - clean green-tea, bergamot and cedar through to soft white tea and vetiver. Cheap enough to audition two candidates for a fortnight each before you commit your store to one for years. View the collection →
You do not scent an electronics store by turning a machine up. You scent it by putting the machine where the room was already going.

The SOSA commercial edit
Whichever kind of electronics business you run, the system logic is the same: one signature, sized to the space, scheduled so it never depends on a staff member's memory, and waterless wherever it runs near stock. The Hotel Collection blends - SOSA's own interpretations of the world's finest hotel scents - run across the range, and everything is supported from Pune. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Honest notes for store owners: ambient scenting's effects on dwell time, perceived quality and recall are real but moderate - they compound a well-run store and rescue nothing; premises must be clean and well-ventilated first, because fragrance crowns good air and never substitutes for it. Ultrasonic systems (Boond, Sukoon) add a small amount of humidity and run the water-based Hotel Collection fragrance; the Vaayu and the HVAC systems run waterless nebulising oil - near open equipment and in humid coastal cities, prefer waterless. The Hotel Collection scents are SOSA's own interpretations inspired by the world's finest hotels; SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house, not affiliated with or endorsed by any hotel brand. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
For large-format showrooms SOSA Aangan · HVAC Nebulising Diffuser ₹25,999 Sits beside your air-handling unit and carries one signature through every zone the ducting serves - up to 3,000m³. For a showroom with an entrance, a display floor, demo zones and billing, it means one refill point instead of six, and no visible machines on the floor. View this system →

Everything is supported from Pune, and a part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Your store gets a memory; a girl gets a classroom. That equation has always felt right to me.
Frequently asked questions
Can I just put the diffuser near the billing counter since staff are always there?
You can add a small trace there, but the counter is the wrong place for your primary unit - the customer has usually already decided by then. Keep the counter to a light
Boond (₹799) and put the main
Vaayu at the entrance and display floor where the browsing happens.
Is it safe to place a diffuser near open TVs and laptops on display?
Near, yes; over, no. Keep any unit two to three metres from open equipment and never directly above it. Use a waterless
Vaayu so there is no moisture in the air at all - the real risk to electronics is humidity and residue, not fragrance.
How many diffusers does an average showroom need?
Most single-floor showrooms up to around 1000m³ run well on one well-placed
Vaayu. Larger multi-zone floors are better served by a ducted
Aangan (₹25,999) than by scattering several small units.
Should the diffuser point at the customer?
No. Aim it across the room or slightly upward so the scent disperses into the air the customer moves through. Pointing it at people gives you a strong hit up close and nothing three metres away - the opposite of an even signature.
Where should I never place a diffuser?
Directly over open stock, inside or under an AC return, in the stockroom, and at the repair bench. Those zones want clean, dry, still air. Scent the browse and protect the stock - the
SOSA commercial range is built around that split.
Placement, sorted
Put the machine where the room already flows - and let the Vaayu do the rest.
Waterless cold-air nebulising, app-scheduled to your trading hours, safe near stock. The one unit most electronics showrooms actually need.

About this guide: Written by Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained founder and perfumer at SOSA Home & Body. Product recommendations reflect the SOSA commercial range; the scent-marketing strategy advice applies to any brand's systems.
Facts verified August 2026: Ambient scent research consistently associates pleasant, congruent scenting with longer dwell time, improved venue evaluations and stronger brand recall at moderate effect sizes; congruence and gentle intensity outperform strong scenting in replicated studies, and no scent effect survives unclean or poorly ventilated premises. Olfactory memory is unusually durable, which is the mechanism behind signature retail scents. The principal risk to electronic equipment from diffusion is added moisture and residue rather than fragrance itself, which is the basis of this range's waterless recommendation. SOSA systems: Boond 300ml (₹799) and Sukoon 500ml (₹1,799) ultrasonic units run the water-based Hotel Collection fragrance (from ₹299; refills 100ml ₹999); SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is a waterless cold-air nebulising machine, up to 1000m³, 400ml tank, Bluetooth app and 1/4/8/24h timers, under 38 dB; SOSA Aangan (₹25,999) is an HVAC nebulising system covering up to 3,000m³ (roughly 8,000-10,000 sq ft).
