Before I compare, the honest note: SOSA does not make a gel freshener. We make a spray and a hanging diffuser. So this is a fair look at a format we do not sell, not a setup to push a SOSA gel - there isn't one.
What a gel freshener is
A gel air freshener is fragrance suspended in a solid gel, usually in a small pot or vented can. As the gel slowly evaporates it shrinks, releasing scent passively. Its appeal is real: it is cheap, tidy and needs no effort. The trade-offs are that the throw is low and steady rather than strong, it weakens as the gel dries out, and many budget gels are heavily synthetic with little ingredient disclosure.
A gel is closest in spirit to our hanging diffuser - both are passive, low-throw, set-and-forget. In summer a gel quietly does its thing; in a chilled January cabin it can feel like almost nothing. A gel is a fine, frugal choice if all you want is a faint, hands-off scent and you do not mind replacing it.
