This is the long version, and it is the last page you should need. Four parts: what the machine is actually like to live with, how to work out how many you need, how to choose a fragrance you will still want in a year, and what the whole thing costs including the parts most pages leave out. Then, at the end, the three people I would rather not sell to.
Quick answers — read this first
What should I know before buying a SOSA Vaayu for my home? Four things. Experience: it is waterless and runs under 38dB, so it is dry, quiet and unnoticeable, and it works on a schedule rather than on your attention. Coverage: 1000m³, about 2,000-3,000 sq ft, so one machine per floor of air. Fragrance: choose one oil for the whole floor, in the machine's own 400ml tank. Cost: ₹11,999 once, 5W or roughly 1.5 units of electricity a month at ten hours a day, and about five fills a year.

How many SOSA Vaayu machines does a home need? One per body of air. A typical Indian apartment is one machine, because 1000m³ is about 2,000-3,000 sq ft and a 1,200 sq ft flat at a ten foot ceiling holds roughly 340 cubic metres. A two-storey villa is normally one per floor, since levels do not exchange air evenly. Run every machine in the house on the same fragrance and the same schedule.

What is the total cost of running a SOSA Vaayu? The machine is ₹11,999 once. Electricity is 5W, roughly 1.5 units a month on a ten hour daily schedule. Fragrance is a 400ml tank lasting up to about 75 days, which is roughly five fills a year, and fewer days per fill at higher intensity or longer hours. There are no filters, no pads, no water and no descaling, so those three are the only costs.
The short answer
Short answer: four parts. Experience: waterless, under 38dB, running on a schedule rather than on your attention. Coverage: 1000m³, about 2,000-3,000 sq ft, one machine per floor of air. Fragrance: one oil for the whole floor in a 400ml tank lasting up to about 75 days. Cost: ₹11,999 once, 5W or about 1.5 units of electricity a month, roughly five fills a year.
The pick: one SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) per floor of air, on the main air path, one fragrance, two low windows a day.
Next step: send us your floor area, ceiling height and number of levels and we will confirm the count and the likely fills before you buy - ask us what fits your home.

Straight answer
What do I need to know before buying a SOSA Vaayu for a luxury home?
Four parts, and then an exclusion. Part one, the experience. The SOSA Vaayu is a waterless cold-air nebuliser, so nothing damp or hot enters the room, nothing settles on veneer, framed work, books or upholstery, and there is nothing to descale. It runs under 38dB, below a refrigerator's hum, so it can sit in a passage outside a bedroom. It is 165 x 80.5 x 215mm and 0.9kg, freestanding, wall mounted or HVAC mounted. In practice you set it once and stop noticing it, which is the point. Part two, coverage. It is rated to 1000m³, described on the product page as about 2,000-3,000 sq ft. Measure length by width by height in metres for your connected space: a 1,200 sq ft flat at a ten foot ceiling is roughly 340 cubic metres, comfortably inside one machine. This is a machine for a floor, not a device for each room, and a two-storey villa is normally one per floor because levels do not exchange air evenly. Part three, fragrance. The Vaayu takes pure fragrance oil in its own 400ml refillable tank - it is not a water-based or ultrasonic system. Choose one oil for the whole floor and stay with it; restrained and dry profiles hold up all day in air-conditioned Indian homes, while sweet or heavy ones turn cloying by evening. Run it at the lowest intensity you can still notice on entry. Part four, cost. ₹11,999 once. 5W, roughly 1.5 units of electricity a month on a ten hour daily schedule. A 400ml tank lasting up to about 75 days, so roughly five fills a year, and fewer days per fill at higher intensity or longer hours; the exact figure depends on your settings, which is why we quote fills rather than a monthly bill. No filters, no pads, no water, no descaling. And the exclusion. Three people should not buy this machine, and I would rather say so here than take the order. If you want one room lightly scented now and then, something small and cheap will serve you better. If the real problem is damp, a bin, a drain, a wardrobe or last night's cooking, fix the source - a machine will only give you both smells at once. And if you enjoy changing fragrance every fortnight, you will never get the thing a signature scent is actually for. Two limits regardless: it is not an air purifier and makes no health claim, and it cannot cover a smell with a source. Air and clean first, then scent. SOSA's hotel-inspired fragrances are our own original interpretations of a style of scenting, composed in our own studio. SOSA is an independent Indian brand and is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, any hotel or hotel group. Ask us what fits your home; a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

The four parts of the decision

Take the four parts in order. Each one has a number attached, and none of them requires you to trust an adjective.

1
Experience - what it is like to own
Dry, quiet, small, locked and scheduled
The first fortnight is the only part that takes attention. Put the machine on the air path - near the entrance airflow, in the connecting passage, or on the return-air side of the air conditioning - set a low intensity and two daily windows, then leave it completely alone for two weeks. Your nose adapts to a familiar scent within days, so the urge to turn it up is almost always wrong; ask somebody who has just walked in from outside instead. After that it is genuinely invisible: no water to fill, no residue to wipe, no filters, nothing to descale, under 38dB, and a key-lock so nobody else changes your settings.
Tip: set it low, wait two weeks, and judge it by what a visitor notices, not by what you notice.
SOSA Vaayu
Under 38dB, 0.9kg, waterless, with auto-stop and key-lock - it disappears into the house by the second week.

2
Coverage - how many you need
1000m³ per machine, counted in bodies of air
Multiply length by width by height in metres for each connected space. A 1,200 sq ft flat at a ten foot ceiling is roughly 340 cubic metres; a 2,500 sq ft villa floor at eleven feet is around 780. Both are inside 1000m³, which is why one machine is the usual answer and three is the usual mistake. Count bodies of air rather than rooms: an open hall, living room and passage are one; a second storey is another, even with an open staircase, because warm air rises and the levels do not exchange evenly. A closed bedroom door is a wall, and that room will get a softer version - which is usually what you want in a bedroom anyway.
SOSA Vaayu
1000m³, about 2,000-3,000 sq ft, per machine - one per floor of air, on the same oil.
See SOSA Vaayu →
3
Fragrance and cost - the two you control
One oil, a 400ml tank, 5W and roughly five fills a year
Choose one fragrance for the whole floor and give it a full season. Restrained and dry profiles survive an air-conditioned Indian home all day; sweet or heavy ones are charming for thirty seconds and cloying by evening. The tank holds 400ml of pure fragrance oil and lasts up to about 75 days depending on intensity and run hours, so roughly five fills a year - run harder or longer and it is fewer days per fill. Electricity is 5W, about 1.5 units a month on a ten hour schedule. That is the whole running cost: no filters, no pads, no water, no descaling. Notice that the cheapest way to run it is also the best-smelling one.
Tip: one oil per floor, lowest useful intensity, two short windows a day.
SOSA Vaayu
400ml of pure oil, up to about 75 days a fill, at 5W. ₹11,999 once.

The SOSA principle
Four numbers cover this entire decision: 1000 cubic metres, 400 millilitres, 38 decibels and 5 watts. Everything else on this page is explanation.
And one paragraph matters more than all four - the one about who should not buy it.
SOSA Vaayu
Experience and coverage: SOSA Vaayu, waterless and under 38dB, rated to 1000m³ - about 2,000-3,000 sq ft - from a single point. ₹11,999.

Fragrance - choosing one and staying with it

On fragrance specifically, the discipline is simple and it is the same discipline that makes hotels smell coherent: one oil, everywhere, at a level nobody remarks on.

If you want a shorter read on any single part of this, is SOSA Vaayu worth buying for a premium home is the verdict alone, what luxury whole-home scenting costs in India is the cost alone, and the best fragrance system for an expensive home is the layout alone. This guide sits under our pillar on how to make your home feel more expensive.

The paragraph that matters most in this guide. Three people should not buy this machine, and I would rather say so here than take the order. A note from Sonal

If you have read this far you are seriously considering the purchase, so I want to be as useful as I can be rather than as persuasive. Everything on this page is checkable against the product listing, and the parts that cannot be checked - how many fills you will get, whether one machine covers your particular floor - are the parts I would rather work out with you than guess at in public.

The short version of the four parts: a Vaayu is quiet, dry and invisible by the second week; one machine covers 1000m³, about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft, so most homes need one and most villas need one per floor; it takes pure fragrance oil in a 400ml tank lasting up to about 75 days, roughly five fills a year; and it costs ₹11,999 once plus about a unit and a half of electricity a month on a ten hour schedule. Run it lower than you think you should.

And the honest part, which is the reason this page exists. The machine is not an air purifier and makes no health claim, and it cannot cover a smell with a source. A luxury home smells good because it is aired and clean first, then scented. Frequently asked questions

What should I know before buying a SOSA Vaayu for a luxury home?
Four things. Experience: it is waterless and runs under 38dB, so it is dry, quiet and unnoticeable, and it works on 1, 4, 8 and 24 hour timers rather than on your attention. Coverage: 1000 cubic metres, about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft, so one machine per body of air. Fragrance: pure fragrance oil in its own 400ml tank, one oil for the whole floor. Cost: Rs 11,999 once, 5W or roughly 1.5 units of electricity a month on a ten hour daily schedule, and about five fills a year.
How many machines does my home need?
Count bodies of air, not rooms. Multiply length by width by height in metres for each connected space and compare with 1000 cubic metres, which is what one SOSA Vaayu is rated for. A 1,200 sq ft flat at a ten foot ceiling is roughly 340 cubic metres, so one machine. A two-storey villa is normally one per floor, because the levels do not exchange air evenly even with an open staircase.
How do I choose one fragrance for the whole house?
Choose something restrained and dry rather than sweet, because air-conditioned Indian homes flatten sweetness and amplify anything heavy, so the profile that lasts all day usually seems almost too quiet in the first thirty seconds. Use one oil across every machine in the house and give it a full season before changing. Run it at the lowest intensity you still notice when you walk in from outside.
What is the complete cost of ownership?
The machine is Rs 11,999 once. Electricity is 5W, about 1.5 units a month on a ten hour daily schedule. Fragrance is a 400ml tank lasting up to about 75 days, roughly five fills a year, and fewer days per fill at higher intensity or longer hours. There are no filters, no pads, no water and no descaling. We do not publish a monthly fragrance figure because it depends entirely on your settings.
Who should not buy a SOSA Vaayu?
Three kinds of buyer should not. Someone who wants one room lightly scented occasionally is better served by something small and cheap. Someone whose real problem is damp, a bin, a drain, a musty wardrobe or cooking needs the source fixed, not a machine on top of it. And someone who likes changing fragrance every fortnight will never get the benefit of a signature scent, which is the whole point of running one continuously.
