The sample room is the one space in an export building where my answer is a flat no, and the reason is not the one most people expect. It is not that I know what ambient scent does to a buyer's judgement of what you make. It is that I do not, and I am not willing to pretend otherwise.
Quick answers — read this first
Should the sample room be scented at all? No. It stays out of the plan, and the plan stops at its door. The reasoning is short: what your works makes is what the buyer came to judge, and it should reach them the way it left your floor. That is a decision about whose room it is, not a warning about anything. Scent the entrance, the lobby and the meeting room — the places where people wait, walk and talk — and leave the room where the goods are laid out alone. It costs you nothing and it removes an argument you would otherwise have to have.

Is that because fragrance does something to the goods? That is exactly what I am not saying, in either direction. I will not tell you it does something, because I have no basis for it, and I will not tell you it is fine, because I have no basis for that either. Neither claim is mine to make and anybody who makes one to you is going beyond what they know. The single publishable fact about the machine is that it is waterless: it adds no moisture to the air and leaves no residue on surfaces. Everything past that belongs to your own suppliers and to whatever your customers' audit protocol requires.

What if the sample room has no door? Then you do not have a boundary, you have a wish. A room that shares open air with a scented corridor is already inside the scent plan whether you intended it or not, because the boundary is a door and an air path rather than a line on the drawing. The options are honest ones: fit a door, move the source much further away and accept a smaller plan, or leave the corridor unscented as well. Choose one, rather than pretending the opening is not there.
The short answer
Short answer: Keep it neutral. The sample room sits outside the scent plan entirely — not because we know what ambient fragrance does to a buyer's judgement of what you make, but because we do not, and the goods should reach them as the works made them. Scent the entrance, the lobby and the meeting room; stop at the sample-room door, and make sure that door actually exists rather than assuming it.
The pick: one SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 on the office side — lobby or meeting room — and nothing at all in the room where the goods are laid out.
Next step: send the floor plan with the sample room and its door marked and we will size the office side and show you where the boundary falls — ask for a scenting plan.
The longest room of the visit, deliberately left aloneThe sample room stays neutral, as a choice not a warningNo claim in either direction about what a works makesWhat can be said: waterless, no moisture added, no residueScent the entrance, the lobby and the meeting room - stop at the doorAnd check the door actually exists
The fourth line is the plan and the second is the reason. The plan is deliberately smaller than the building, and this page is about the room it leaves out.
The ladder for the office side — tap through for the published coverage
Straight answer
Should an exporter's sample room be scented, or should everything in it stay completely neutral?
Neutral, and the plan stops at that door. Let me be precise about why, because the reasoning matters more than the instruction. What your works makes is the thing the buyer flew in to judge. Whatever the pieces on that table are — a tray of spindle parts and a cutaway gearbox in a machinery works, knitted panels and roll ends in a firm supplying the Tiruppur trade, a pump set with its casing off — they are the reason the visit exists, and the defensible position is that they should reach the buyer the way they left your floor, in a room that is not doing anything of its own. That is a statement about whose room it is. It is not a statement about what ambient scent does to anything on the table, and I will not make one in either direction: not that it does something, because I have no basis for saying so, and not that it is perfectly fine, because I have no basis for that either. Neither belongs to a fragrance supplier. The one publishable fact about the hardware is that the SOSA Vaayu is waterless — it adds no moisture to the air and leaves no residue on surfaces — and beyond that your own suppliers, your quality team and whatever your customers' audit protocol says are the people who decide. There is also an everyday observation anyone can make, which is that a room full of soft materials holds an ambient smell differently from a room of metal and glass; you already know this from your own wardrobe. That is an observation about rooms, not a finding about goods, and it is one more reason to keep the boundary simple rather than to argue about levels. So the plan is: entrance, lobby, meeting room — and a hard zero at the sample-room door, alongside the production floor, the stores and the tour route. Check that the door is real, by the way. A sample room that opens off a scented corridor without a door is already in the plan whether you meant it or not. And the concession, which is a real one: this is very often the room your buyer spends longest in, sometimes two hours or more, so the plan you are being sold deliberately skips the single biggest stretch of the visit. Ambient scent here is an interior and brand-experience decision, and nobody can promise it affects an order, a contract or a negotiation.
It stays neutral, and the plan stops at its door. Not because we know what scent does to what you make — we do not and will not claim to — but because the goods are what the buyer came for.
The machine belongs on the office side: one SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 in the lobby or the meeting room, well away from the sample-room door. Waterless, so it adds no moisture and leaves no residue on surfaces; a 400ml tank lasts 90+ days.

The machines, and the side of the building they belong on

Whichever machine you end up with, the instruction on this page is the same: it lives on the office side and the sample room is outside the sum entirely. The choice, the door, and the concession it costs you

Three parts, and the middle one is the practical trap. First why the boundary is framed as a choice, then why a boundary without a door is not a boundary, then the honest cost of drawing it where I am drawing it.

1
One
A choice about whose room it is, not a warning about anything
There are two ways to arrive at an unscented sample room and only one of them is honest. The dishonest route is to imply that fragrance would do something to what is on the table — it sounds authoritative, it makes the boundary feel technical, and it is a claim nobody selling machines is in a position to make. The honest route is simpler. The goods are what the buyer came to judge; the room exists for that judgement; and a supplier of ambient fragrance has no business adding a variable to somebody else's evaluation of somebody else's work. Framed that way, the boundary needs no evidence and survives any question your buyer asks about it. It also has the advantage of being true, which the other version is not.
Tip: If a vendor tells you their machine is fine for a sample area, ask what that statement is based on. If they tell you it is dangerous, ask the same question.
SOSA Vaayu
What I can tell you about the Vaayu is that it is waterless: no moisture added to the air, no residue on surfaces. That is the end of what I know.

2
Two
A boundary is a door and an air path, never a line on the drawing
This is where plans go wrong in real buildings, and there is a reason it goes wrong so consistently here. In a works that has grown for two or three generations on the same compound, the sample room is almost never a room that was designed to be one. It is the old office, or the old drawing room, taken over when the firm began exporting and the buyer started asking to see pieces laid out — which means it sits in the middle of the office block with a wide cased opening onto the corridor, because nobody hangs a door on a room that was once the middle of the house. A sample room that opens off the corridor with a curtain, a wide cased opening or a door propped back all day is not outside your scent plan, whatever the drawing says. Air moves, conditioned offices often sit at slight positive pressure, and a machine standing in the corridor will feed anything that shares its volume. So decide in the physical world rather than on paper. Either fit a door with a self-closer and keep it shut during visits, or move the source to the far end of the office side and accept a smaller, weaker plan, or leave the corridor out of the plan entirely. All three are legitimate. Assuming the opening is not there is not.
Tip: Stand in the sample room with the corridor machine running and the door in its usual position. Your own nose settles this in a minute.
SOSA Vaayu
Place the Vaayu at the lobby end rather than the corridor end, on the side the conditioned air recirculates from, and the boundary becomes much easier to hold.
See SOSA Vaayu →

Three
The concession: this is usually the longest room of the visit
I should be straight about what this rule costs. On a sample-led visit the buyer may spend two hours or more at that table, longer than in your lobby and your meeting room combined, and the plan I am recommending deliberately leaves that stretch alone. If you were hoping to hear that the most important room in the building is also the one to scent, this page is a disappointment. What is left is still worth doing: the arrival, the wait, the walk and the meeting room are where people form impressions of the company rather than of the goods, and those rooms take the whole plan happily. But the honest summary is that the scent plan covers the socially important part of the visit and skips the commercially important one, on purpose.
Tip: Spend on the sample room in other ways: light it properly, give it a table people can walk around, and keep it free of cartons.
SOSA Vaayu
One Vaayu at ₹11,999 covers the office side of most export buildings several times over, which is another reason not to stretch it across a door it should not cross.

The SOSA principle
The sample room stays out of the plan as a choice, not as a warning. We make no claim in either direction about what ambient scent does to a buyer's judgement of what a works makes — we simply keep our own machine out of that room.
And because a boundary is a door and an air path rather than a line on the drawing, the plan has to be checked in the building rather than on the plan.
SOSA Vaayu
The only claim available to me here: the machine is waterless. It adds no moisture to the air and leaves no residue on surfaces. Anything beyond that sentence belongs to your quality team, your own suppliers and your customers' audit protocol.

Which rooms carry the plan, and which door it stops at

The map for an export building with a sample room in it, room by room. The same boundary in a textile building — where the goods are absorbent and the room is often the whole showroom — is worked through in whether a textile manufacturer should scent its buyer showroom.

The sample room and the table the goods are laid out on
Out. Nothing, at any level, and no smaller unit as a compromise. This is a deliberate choice about whose room it is, not a warning about anything, and the door needs to be real rather than notional.
The production floor, the stores and the tour route
Out, by rule rather than preference. A working plant has extraction, heat, coolant and a safety protocol that belong to your own engineers, and in many buildings to your customers' auditors as well.

The textile version of this boundary — where the goods themselves are soft and the room is the showroom — is whether a textile manufacturer should scent its buyer showroom, and the room-by-room map for an exporter of cloth is where a textile exporter can use scent. If your visits run tour first and meeting room afterwards, the sequencing argument is where fragrance should begin and end on a buyer visit. SOSA makes no claim that ambient fragrance affects an order, a contract, a negotiation or any commercial number, and none about any material, finish or item a building holds.

SOSA Vaayu
Placement does the work a setting cannot: put the source at the lobby end of the office side, away from the sample-room door, on the side the conditioned air recirculates from. A lower setting does not hold a boundary; distance and a door do.
The boundary marked on your own drawing

We keep the sample room out of the plan not because we know what ambient scent does to a buyer's judgement, but because we do not, and will not pretend to.

If the office side is one small room and a corridor, a Mountain Breeze reed at ₹849 at the far end from the sample door is a sound and cheap answer. Ambient scent here is an interior and brand-experience decision, with no claim that it affects an order, a contract, a negotiation or any commercial number — nobody can promise that. It works alongside your housekeeping and ventilation rather than instead of them, and it does not remove, settle or reduce dust. SOSA makes no claim in either direction about any material, finish or item held in a building; what can be stated is that the machine is waterless, adds no moisture and leaves no residue on surfaces. The sample room, the production floor, the stores, the tour route and any area governed by a plant safety rule or a customer's audit requirement stay unscented, and that protocol decides, not us. SOSA publishes no bulk pricing, no minimum order, no custom branding, no lead time, no installation and no maintenance terms; anything of that kind goes to our contact page with nothing promised. Ask for a scenting plan and we will mark the boundary on your drawing.

A note from Sonal

I have been asked to put a machine in a sample room perhaps a dozen times, and I have said no every time, which is a strange thing for someone who sells machines to be proud of. The first time was in a Coimbatore export works, and the owner pushed hard: his buyers flew in twice a year, spent two hours at that table and barely fifteen minutes anywhere else in the building. He was right about the two hours. He was wrong that the length of time made it the right room, and it took me a while to find the words for why.

The words I settled on are these. That room belongs to the buyer and to what you have made, and the two of them are having a conversation I have no standing to join. It is not my table. I can make the room they walk through beforehand feel considered, and I can make the room they sit in afterwards feel calm, and that is the extent of what I am entitled to touch.

So the plan is deliberately smaller than the building. We make no claim that ambient fragrance affects an order, a contract, a negotiation or any commercial outcome, and no claim in either direction about anything your works makes. The one thing I can state is that the machine is waterless, adds no moisture and leaves no residue on surfaces. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

Is it risky to have a machine running near the room where goods are laid out?
I am not going to answer that in either direction, because neither answer is mine to give. What I will say is that the machine is waterless, adds no moisture to the air and leaves no residue on surfaces, and that the sample room stays outside the plan as a matter of choice. If your customers' audit protocol has a view, that view decides and mine does not come into it.
Our sample room opens straight off the reception with no door — what now?
Then it is already inside whatever you run in reception, because a boundary is a door and an air path rather than a line on the drawing. Fit a door with a self-closer, or move the source to the far end of the reception away from the opening and accept a weaker plan, or leave reception unscented too. All three are honest; assuming the opening is not there is not.
The sample room smells of cartons and storage — can I use fragrance in there just for that?
Fragrance sits on top of whatever a room already smells of; it does not subtract anything, and using it that way gives you the original smell with a second one over it. The order that works is source, then ventilation, then cleaning — move the cartons out, get some air moving, keep the room in use rather than as overflow storage. In this particular room, fragrance does not come even after that.
Can we run something very light in there for buyer visits only?
There is no light version of a room that is out of the plan. A smaller machine, a reed on the windowsill or a low setting all put the same decision inside somebody else's evaluation, just more quietly. Keep the boundary clean and it is easy to explain to a buyer who asks; make it a matter of degree and you will spend the visit justifying it.
If we skip the room where buyers spend longest, is the rest worth doing at all?
That is a fair challenge and the honest answer is: sometimes. The lobby, the walk and the meeting room are where impressions of the company form rather than impressions of the goods, and they take a plan happily. But if your visits are almost entirely sample-table time, the plan shrinks to something small, and there is no claim here that any of it affects an order or a contract in the first place.

Facts verified 16 September 2026 against the live SOSA product pages: the SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is a waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³, described by the manufacturer as approximately 2,000-3,000 sq ft, with a 400ml refillable tank lasting 90+ days depending on intensity and run hours, Bluetooth app and onboard button control, 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, adjustable intensity, operation under 38dB, DC 12V/1A at 5W (roughly 1.5 units of electricity a month on a ten-hour daily schedule), freestanding or wall and HVAC mounting, auto-stop and key-lock, and CE, RoHS and SGS certification. Being waterless, it adds no moisture and leaves no residue on surfaces or equipment. The SOSA Angaan (₹25,999) is an HVAC nebulising diffuser rated to 3,000m³, roughly 8,000-10,000 sq ft, with an 800ml reservoir, metal body, programmable schedules and operation under 42dB, and also runs standalone wall-mounted or lay-flat. The SOSA Meenar (₹38,500) is the largest machine in the range, quoted for roughly 12,000-18,000 sq ft of HVAC-connected space. Ambient scent is an interior and brand-experience decision: it works alongside proper ventilation, housekeeping and source control and is not a substitute for any of them.
