The right system for a guest room is decided by its rhythm, not its price. A guest room sits shut for weeks, then must welcome someone in ten seconds. Once you see it that way, the choice between a reed, an ultrasonic and Vaayu almost makes itself.

Quick answer

Reed for the shut-up weeks. Passive, no power, safe to leave — it keeps the room from ever going fully stale between visits.

Ultrasonic for arrival day. A Sukoon run before your guest walks in gives the fuller hotel welcome, then drops to low.

Vaayu only for the whole house. If you scent the whole home on a schedule, the guest room is simply one more zone.

The short version
Short answer: Most guest rooms want a reed for the in-between plus a Sukoon for arrival. Vaayu is for whole-home scheduling.
The deciding factor: intermittent use. A reed can be left unattended for weeks; an ultrasonic cannot, so it belongs to the visit itself.

Passive · always on
Reed diffuser — for the weeks nobody is there
SOSA Evening Calm reed diffuserEvening Calm reedfrom ₹799

A reed is the only one of the three you can leave unattended for a month. It needs no power, no water and no maintenance, which is exactly what an intermittently-used room wants — it keeps the guest room never-quite-stale so you are never caught out by a last-minute visit. It is gentle, so it will not fill a large room strongly, but as a baseline it is unbeatable. Alcohol-free and passive, it is also the safest choice near fabric and a bed.

Best for: the always-on baseline in any guest room — and the whole answer if you only want one system.

Water-based · run on the day
Ultrasonic (Boond / Sukoon) — for arrival
SOSA Sukoon ultrasonic cool-mist diffuserSukoon 500ml₹1,799

An ultrasonic fills the room air more strongly than a reed, which is what you want for the ten seconds a guest walks in. Run a Sukoon with a Hotel Collection scent for an hour before arrival, then drop it to low. A Boond does the same in a small room. The catch: it needs water and power, adds mild humidity, and should not be left running unattended in an empty room — so it belongs to the visit, not the in-between.

Best for: the arrival-day welcome and the stay; keep runs short in a damp coastal monsoon.
3
Waterless · app-scheduled
SOSA Vaayu — for the whole home at once
SOSA Vaayu waterless cold-air diffuserSOSA Vaayu₹11,999

Vaayu is waterless nebulising — no added humidity — with Bluetooth app scheduling and coverage up to 1000 m³. For a single guest room used a few times a year it is more than you need. But if you already scent the whole home, the guest room becomes one welcoming zone on the same schedule, ready even after weeks shut, which is genuinely elegant. In a humid coastal city running scent for hours, its waterless design is the honest advantage over any ultrasonic.

Best for: whole-home scheduling where the guest room is one zone among many, and long daily runs in humidity.

Match the machine to the rhythm of the room — a reed for the empty weeks, an ultrasonic for the day they arrive.
Sonal Sahani · SOSA Home & Body

One honest caveat that applies to all three: no system, however clever, rescues a room that has been shut too long. Air the guest room out and freshen the linen before your guest arrives — the machine is the last step, not a cover for stale air. In a damp monsoon in particular, the waterless reed and Vaayu are kinder to the room than a water-based ultrasonic left running.

Frequently asked questions
Reed, ultrasonic or Vaayu — which is best for a guest room?
It depends on the room's rhythm, not on which machine is fanciest. A reed suits the weeks a guest room sits shut, because it is passive and safe to leave. An ultrasonic like the Sukoon suits arrival day, when you want a fuller welcome you can run before your guest walks in. Vaayu makes sense only if the guest room is one zone of a whole-home system you want to schedule. Most homes are best served by a reed plus an ultrasonic.
Why is a reed diffuser good for an intermittently-used room?
Because a guest room is empty most of the year, and a reed needs no power, no water and no attention. You can leave it on the dresser for weeks and the room never fully goes stale. An electric diffuser cannot safely be left running unattended in an empty room, so it cannot cover the in-between the way a reed can.
Does an ultrasonic diffuser add humidity in a guest room?
Yes. The Boond and Sukoon are water-based and add mild humidity, which is pleasant in dry weather but not what a shut, damp coastal room needs. In monsoon, run the ultrasonic only in short bursts before and during a visit, and lean on the reed the rest of the time — or choose Vaayu, which is waterless and adds none.
Is Vaayu overkill for a single guest room?
For one guest room used a few times a year, yes — a reed plus a Sukoon does the job for far less. Vaayu earns its place when the guest room is part of a whole-home scenting plan: it is waterless, app-scheduled and covers large volumes, so the guest room simply becomes one welcoming zone alongside the rest of the house.
Can I use just one system for a guest room?
You can. If you want only one, choose a reed diffuser — it is the passive baseline that keeps the room fresh and is safe to leave unattended. You lose the stronger arrival-day welcome that an ultrasonic gives, but a well-aired room with a good reed still feels genuinely looked-after.
Match it to the rhythm
Pick the system that fits how your guest room is actually used.
A reed for the shut-up weeks, a Sukoon for arrival, or Vaayu if the guest room is one zone of a whole-home schedule.
