Both are right, which is an unsatisfying answer until you see what actually separates them. If three or four people work the front desk across a week, somebody will eventually decide the room needs more. Founders ask me this as though there were a hidden right answer and I am being polite by not saying it. There genuinely is not one. At 500 sq ft a reed and a small machine put roughly the same amount of fragrance into roughly the same air, and if I told you the machine was better I would be selling you a number rather than answering the question.
So I ask about the week instead. How many people sit at the desk. Whether the clinic runs late twice a week. Whether anyone will actually refill a tank on a Tuesday morning. Nine times out of ten the answer falls out of those three questions, and the tenth time it is because somebody has already tried a reed and found that the level in the room kept climbing, which is a reason to buy the machine that has nothing to do with square feet.
