How SOSA works
Four attars, three sizes, one fixed set - and an honest account of what each one is for
The trio is fixed
Ameeri, Nawaab and Mastani. Adaa is not in it - that one is bought separately.
Alcohol-free by formulation
The attars are alcohol-free oil worn at the wrist. The inspired line is an alcohol-based spray - a different thing, and we say so.
Made in India
Hand-blended in small batches. Cruelty-free and vegan.
Composed by a trained perfumer
Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained, composes the whole range.
A portion funds girl-child education
Part of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
We will tell you not to buy
Four attars in two registers is a house point of view, not a discovery kit. Where that is the wrong answer, these guides say so.

Founder Diaries · Attar Gifting
By Sonal Sahani · ISIPCA Versailles 9 min read Updated September 2026
Somebody who has worn the same kind of fragrance for thirty years is often described as unadventurous, and that is rarely accurate. What he has is a vocabulary, and everything inside it is available to him while everything outside it requires effort he has no particular reason to spend. So do not spend it for him. Give him something whose every word he already knows and let the newness sit somewhere else entirely.
Quick answers — read this first
What is a good fragrance gift for a father who likes traditional woody scents? Something built from materials he can name. Sandalwood, oud, saffron and rose are the traditional Indian fragrance vocabulary and all three SOSA set attars are made from them - the three-attar set is ₹1,055 for three 3ML bottles. The variation sits in the proportions rather than in unfamiliar materials, which is what makes it comfortable rather than challenging.

Are attars a good gift for an older, traditional fragrance wearer? Often better than a modern spray. An attar is alcohol-free concentrated oil applied at the wrist, which is how fragrance was worn in India long before sprays arrived. For somebody who grew up around that, an attar is not an experiment - it is a return, with better materials than most of what is sold loose.

Should I buy a discovery set or one bottle for someone traditional? A small set, if the whole set stays inside his register. Three 3ML bottles let him keep the one he likes and pass the others on without anybody having wasted a large bottle. Where the set would drag him outside his taste, one bottle of something he recognises is the better gift and usually the cheaper one.
The short answer
Short answer: He is not resistant to variety, he is resistant to unfamiliar vocabulary - so stay inside sandalwood, oud, saffron and rose and let the newness come from the format instead.
The pick: the three-attar set at ₹1,055 - every material in it is one he can name, and an attar worn at the wrist is a traditional format rather than a modern one.
Honest note: the set is fixed and all three scents sit in one register, so it is depth rather than contrast. Adaa, the one bright scent, is not in it.
The trio, and the alternative - at a glanceThe trio is one register: rose, oud, sandalwood. Three eveningsFixed set ₹1,055 · Ameeri, Nawaab, Mastani · Adaa not includedWant contrast? Three chosen 3ML from ₹1,153 - three boxesAlcohol-free oil · worn at the wrist
SOSA's three-attar set is a fixed pairing of Ameeri, Nawaab and Mastani at Rs 1,055 for three 3ML bottles. All three sit in the same register - rose, oud, sandalwood and heavy florals, built for evenings. If what you want is contrast rather than depth, the route is three 3ML singles chosen yourself, from Rs 1,153, which is the only way to include Adaa, the one bright scent in the range. Those arrive as three boxes rather than one gift set.
Straight answer
Can a discovery set give a traditional woody wearer variety without leaving his comfort zone?
Yes, and this is the block where that is genuinely true rather than a sales line.

The direct answer: the three-attar set at ₹1,055 for three 3ML bottles. Look at what is actually in it. Ameeri - Taif rose, Indian sandalwood, Persian saffron, soft oudh. Nawaab - white royal oud, Mysore sandalwood, Kashmir saffron. Mastani - night-blooming jasmine, damask rose, oudh. There is not one material in that list he would need explained to him. Sandalwood, oud, rose, saffron and jasmine are the oldest words in Indian perfumery.

Where the variety comes from, then. Proportion. The same five or six materials arranged three ways produce three clearly different fragrances, and because he knows the vocabulary he will be able to tell you exactly what is different about each one - which is a considerably better gift experience than being handed something he has no language for.

And the format is the second gift. These are alcohol-free oils worn at the wrist rather than sprayed. That is not a modern innovation, it is how attar has always been worn, and for a traditional wearer it lands as recognition rather than as novelty. The quiet opening also suits somebody who has probably never enjoyed the alcohol blast of a spray.

One thing to check first. All three are evening-weight and built on oudh, so if he wears something light and soapy during the day and you were hoping to cover that too, the set does not. Adaa is the bright one and it is not part of the set - ₹379 at 3ML, bought separately. At 6ML the set is ₹1,859. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
One line: stay inside the materials he can already name, and let the newness come from the oil format rather than from an unfamiliar note.
The three-attar set is ₹1,055 for three 3ML bottles, ₹1,859 at 6ML. It is a fixed pairing - Ameeri, Nawaab and Mastani - and all three sit in the same register, so it is depth rather than contrast. Worth knowing before you order: Adaa is not in it.

Novelty is not the same thing as interest

Three things usually go wrong when somebody buys a modern fragrance for a traditional wearer, and all three are avoidable.

1
Vocabulary
He is not closed. He is fluent in one language
Thirty years of sandalwood and oud is thirty years of expertise, and expertise makes people conservative for good reasons: he knows what he likes, he can tell quality from filler, and a modern fragrance built on materials he has no reference for gives him nothing to judge with. Hand him something made of sandalwood, saffron and oud and he is immediately an expert on it again. That is a much better position for a gift recipient to be in than politely puzzled.
Tip: Give him something he can have an opinion about.
2
Format
An attar is old, not new
This is the part that makes the gift feel like something rather than like a repeat purchase. SOSA's attars are alcohol-free concentrated oil applied at the wrist, which is the traditional Indian way to wear fragrance and predates the spray bottle entirely. So the novelty in this present is a format he probably remembers rather than one he has to learn, and the materials are the ones he has been buying all along. Newness where it is comfortable, familiarity where it matters.
3
Scale
Three small bottles let him keep one and ignore two
A traditional wearer with a settled taste is precisely the person who will politely accept a large bottle and never open it. Three 3ML bottles remove that risk: there is no obligation to commit, he can wear one for a fortnight and leave the others, and nothing large has been wasted on a guess. If one clearly wins, a 12ML of it later is ₹1,149 to ₹1,199 and that bottle gets finished.
Tip: Small bottles remove the obligation, which is what makes them easy to accept.
The SOSA principle
Traditional taste is not a lack of curiosity. It is fluency in one language, and fluency is worth respecting.
So put the newness in the format and the proportions, and keep every single material inside the vocabulary he already has.

Keep the vocabulary, change the format

Check which of the traditional materials he actually wears before you choose, because the three differ mainly in which one leads.

What to buy for a traditional woody fragrance wearer
Option Who it suits, and what it costs
He wears sandalwood and oud, and you want variety The three-attar set at ₹1,055. Every material in it is one he can name, in three different arrangements.
He is a pure oud and sandalwood man, no florals Nawaab alone - ₹399 at 3ML, ₹699 at 6ML. White royal oud, Mysore sandalwood, Kashmir saffron.
He has always worn rose-based attars Ameeri at ₹385 for 3ML, or the set if you want him to compare it against the other two.
You want one bottle that will simply get used One 12ML at ₹1,149 to ₹1,199 of whichever he already leans towards. The size that gets finished.

If he wears one heavy thing for every occasion and you had hoped to give him something lighter for the day, A lighter daytime option is the honest version of that question. And if you are not certain which traditional material he actually favours, Which kind of woods helps you work it out before ordering. The set is here.

Tell us what they already wear
Send us the bottle they have worn for years, or just how they describe it - bright, heavy, sweet, clean. If the fixed set is the wrong register for that person, we will say so and tell you which three to pick instead.
Gift enquiry
He does not need a new language. He needs a new sentence in the one he already speaks.

The SOSA attar edit

Every SOSA attar is alcohol-free oil worn at the wrist, hand-blended in small batches in India. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Here is the edit by what you actually know about the person's taste, which is what decides whether a fixed set or three chosen bottles is the right answer.

The SOSA attar edit
Five answers by what you actually know about their taste - from ₹1,055 to ₹1,859
Option Best for What it is, honestly From
The three-attar set, 3ML x 3 They already wear rose, oud or big florals Ameeri, Nawaab, Mastani - one register, three evenings. Fixed: Adaa is not in it ₹1,055
Three chosen 3ML singles You want contrast, not depth Any three of the four, chosen by you. The only route that includes Adaa. Three boxes, not one set ₹1,153
One 12ML of a scent you are sure of You know exactly what they wear A size they finish rather than sample, when guessing is not required ₹1,149
The three-attar set, 6ML x 3 The same three, in a size that lasts Where the trio is right and 3ML would run out too quickly ₹1,859
Solid perfume tin 15g When a roll-on is not right Solid balm in a metal tin - nothing to spill, nothing to leak in a bag ₹500

Four honest notes. The three-attar set is fixed - Ameeri, Nawaab and Mastani, in one size tier at a time. Adaa, the bergamot and cardamom one, is not in it, so if the brighter style is what the person wears, that means buying Adaa separately. All three trio scents sit in the same register - rose, oud, sandalwood and heavy florals - so the set is depth rather than contrast; if contrast is the point, choose three 3ML singles yourself and know that they arrive as three boxes rather than one gift set, because there is no build-your-own set on the store. SOSA's attars are alcohol-free oil worn at the wrist; the designer-inspired line is an alcohol-based spray and a different product entirely, and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any fragrance house it names. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

A note from Sonal

The hardest fragrance gift is not the one where you know nothing. It is the one where you know just enough. You can name the bottle they have worn for six years. You also know that buying it again is not a gift, it is a refill - and that buying something wildly different is a coin toss with your money on it.

So people reach for a set, and most fragrance sets quietly mislead. They are sold as exploration when they are really one house's single idea, broken into three bottles. I would rather tell you what ours actually is. Ameeri, Nawaab and Mastani are three evenings, not three directions. Rose, oud, sandalwood, saffron, night jasmine. If the person you are buying for already lives in that register, the set is genuinely good and the discount is real. If they wear something bright and fresh, it is the wrong set, and no amount of my writing changes that.

The answer in that case is not a different set. It is three bottles you pick yourself - and yes, that costs about a hundred rupees more than the fixed three, and yes, they arrive in three boxes rather than one. I would rather you knew both of those things before you ordered than after. Adaa is the only bright one we make, and it is not in the set. A portion of every order supports girl-child education.

Frequently asked questions

Will a traditional woody fragrance wearer like an attar?
Usually, and often more than a modern spray. An attar is alcohol-free oil worn at the wrist, which is how fragrance has been worn in India for centuries, and the SOSA attars are built from sandalwood, oud, saffron, rose and jasmine. Nothing about it requires him to learn anything new.
What is in the three-attar set, exactly?
Ameeri (Taif rose, Indian sandalwood, Persian saffron, soft oudh), Nawaab (white royal oud, Mysore sandalwood, Kashmir saffron) and Mastani (night-blooming jasmine, damask rose, oudh). It is ₹1,055 for three 3ML bottles and it is a fixed set - nothing can be swapped in or out.
Is a set too much for someone who only wears one fragrance?
Three 3ML bottles is a smaller commitment than one 12ML, not a larger one. He can wear one, decide, and pass the other two along without anything being wasted. If he is genuinely a one-bottle person, buying a single 6ML at ₹669 to ₹699 of the closest match is the simpler present.
Should I avoid the floral ones for my father?
Not automatically, and SOSA does not sort fragrance by the gender of the wearer. Rose and jasmine have been central to Indian men's attars for centuries. If he has worn rose attar before, Ameeri will read as entirely normal. If he has only ever worn dry woods, Nawaab is the safer single choice.
What if he simply does not use it?
Then you have spent ₹1,055 rather than several thousand, which is part of why small bottles are the right format for a settled wearer. The other part is that three arrivals give three chances of one landing, and a 3ML gets used up quickly enough that trying it does not feel like a decision.

About this guide: Written by Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained founder and perfumer at SOSA Home & Body. Product recommendations reflect the SOSA range; the gifting advice applies to any brand. SOSA does not sort fragrance by the gender of the wearer - every scent is recommended here on what a person has said they like.

SOSA attars, specified: alcohol-free concentrated fragrance oil in a roll-on bottle, applied at the wrist rather than sprayed. Four scents: Adaa (bergamot, green cardamom, jasmine sambac, white musk - the one bright scent in the range), Ameeri (Taif rose, Indian sandalwood, Persian saffron, soft oudh), Mastani (night-blooming jasmine, damask rose, oudh) and Nawaab (white royal oud, Mysore sandalwood, Kashmir saffron). Ameeri, Mastani and Nawaab share oudh, sandalwood and rose materials and sit in one register; Adaa is the outlier.
