Founder Diaries · Maybe You Don't Want a Reed
By Sonal Sahani · ISIPCA Versailles5 min readUpdated August 2026
There's a quiet trap in this question, and I want to name it so we can solve the right problem. A reed is continuous — it works around the clock. What you're actually missing isn't continuity; it's presence. You want the scent to be continuous and noticeable. Reeds are subtle by design, so they give you the first without the second — and the honest fix is an active diffuser, not a stronger reed.
Quick answer
Reeds too subtle, want continuous — what instead? An active diffuser. Sukoon (₹1,899) on an interval timer = continuous, even, noticeable scent.
Continuous or a strong hit? Sukoon for always-there continuity; SOSA Safar (₹3,999) for a stronger on-demand throw.
Is my reed broken? No — it's subtle by design. That's the method, not a fault.
The short version
Short answer: Reeds are continuous but quiet. For continuous
and noticeable, use an active diffuser —
Sukoon on a timer.
The pick: Sukoon (₹1,899) for continuous even scent;
SOSA Safar (₹3,999) for stronger on-demand throw.
Let me draw the honest distinction, because it's the whole answer. There are two ways a home can be scented over time, and they feel completely different.
Continuous vs burst — the honest difference
-
Continuous (even, always-there): the scent sits at a steady level for hours. A reed does this, but quietly. An ultrasonic diffuser like the Sukoon does it too — and because it actively mists, it does it at a level you actually notice. Set to an interval timer, it puffs at regular gaps so the room stays evenly scented without ever going stale or over-strong.
-
Burst (a strong hit, then fade): a short bloom of strong fragrance followed by a slow settle. Flipping reeds gives you this for about thirty minutes. So does switching on the waterless Safar when you want the room strong before guests arrive.
-
What reeds can't do: continuous and strong at once. They're passive, so they're either gently continuous (normal) or briefly stronger after a flip (temporary). If you want both together, that's an active machine's job.
So the alternative to a too-subtle reed depends on which of those two you're really after. If you want the scent simply there, evenly, all evening, without doing anything — that's the Sukoon on a timer. If instead you want a strong bloom on demand — the just-flipped feeling, but stronger and whenever you like — that's the SOSA Safar.

Sukoon on an interval timer is the honest answer for continuous, even, noticeable scent. Safar is for strong on-demand blooms rather than all-day continuity.
For continuous, even scent
Sukoon ₹1,899
A 500ml ultrasonic cool-mist diffuser running the water-based Hotel Collection fragrance. Set the interval timer and it keeps the room evenly scented for hours — genuinely continuous and genuinely noticeable, which a reed can't manage. Adds a little humidity; fragrance from ₹299.
The Sukoon runs the water-based Hotel Collection fragrance and does add a little humidity — usually pleasant, though in a very damp coastal room I'd steer you to the waterless Safar instead. The Safar atomises neat oil with no water at all, so it's dry and stronger, but it's built for on-demand blooms rather than all-day continuity. Many people who want both simply own both: the Sukoon ticking over on a timer for continuous presence, and the Safar for a strong hit before guests arrive.
For a stronger on-demand bloom
SOSA Safar ₹3,999
A cordless, waterless nebuliser that atomises neat oil into a fine dry mist for a strong, perfume-like bloom whenever you switch it on. No added humidity. Catalogued for car and travel, but excellent as an on-demand strong scenter for a small room.
The honest caveat: don't reach for a big machine to solve continuity. The
SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) also runs continuously on an app timer, but it's built for large open-plan rooms and villas (1000 m³). For a bedroom or living room, the Sukoon gives you continuous scent at a fraction of the cost and the right size.
The honest core
You don't want a stronger reed — you want continuous plus noticeable, which is an active diffuser's job.
Sukoon on a timer for even all-day scent; Safar for strong on-demand blooms. Reeds stay lovely for gentle background.
Frequently asked
I want continuous fragrance but reeds are too subtle — what are my alternatives?
An active diffuser is your alternative. Reeds are continuous but quiet by design, so they can feel too subtle. A Sukoon ultrasonic diffuser (₹1,899) run on its interval timer gives you continuous, even scent that is far more noticeable than a reed. If you want stronger throw when you switch it on rather than all-day continuity, the waterless SOSA Safar (₹3,999) is the on-demand option. Both actively push scent into the room, which reeds cannot do.
What's the difference between continuous and burst fragrance?
Continuous means the scent is present at a steady, even level over long stretches — best achieved with an ultrasonic diffuser like the Sukoon set to an interval timer, which mists at regular gaps so the room stays evenly scented without over-saturating. A burst is a short, strong hit of fragrance, then a slow fade — what you get from flipping reeds, or from switching on the waterless Safar for a strong on-demand bloom. Neither is better; they suit different wishes. If you want always-there, choose continuous; if you want a strong hit when you want it, choose on-demand bursts.
Can a reed diffuser ever give continuous strong fragrance?
A reed gives continuous but gentle fragrance — it is always working, but quietly and close to the bottle, because it is passive. It cannot give continuous strong, room-filling fragrance, no matter how many reeds you add, because nothing pushes the scent outward. If continuous plus noticeable is what you want, an active diffuser on a timer is the honest fix, not a different or larger reed.
Does the Sukoon add humidity?
Yes, a little. The Sukoon is a water-based ultrasonic diffuser, so its cool mist adds mild humidity to the room. In most homes that is pleasant. In a very damp coastal room, or if you want no added moisture at all, choose the waterless SOSA Safar instead, which atomises neat oil with no water. For continuous all-day scent the Sukoon is ideal; for a dry, strong on-demand throw the Safar is better.
Continuous is easy — noticeable is the part reeds can't do
For continuous and noticeable, an active diffuser on a timer is the answer.
Sukoon for even all-day scent; Safar for strong on-demand blooms. Keep a reed for gentle background.
