Position it at the far wall from the bed, waist to chest height, with clear space around it. Never on the bedside table, which is the single commonest way this bottle becomes too much.
Why the caution: Fresh Brew is 9.5 on SOSA's own internal scale at six reeds, the highest position in the range. That is our scale, not an industry measure and not a quality ranking — it simply projects harder than anything else here.
What a reed cannot reproduce: grinding, steam and hot machinery. Those are events; a reed diffuser is constant and low. What carries across is the roasted-and-sweet character.
2. It is also the strongest thing I make. 9.5 at six reeds on SOSA's own internal strength scale — the highest position of the five. That number is a place on our scale, not an industry standard, not a concentration and not a quality ranking. What it tells you is that this composition projects harder and holds longer in a room than anything else here.
3. Which makes a bedroom the hardest room to put it in. A bedroom is usually the smallest scented space in a flat, it spends hours behind a closed door, and it is the room you occupy for the longest unbroken stretch. Small plus closed plus long means a scent accumulates and you get no interval away from it. Strength that is a virtue in a living room is a liability here.
4. So the answer is dose, not a different bottle. Use three of the six reeds. Reed count is the only true volume control — the exposed reed surface sets the evaporation rate, so halving the reeds meaningfully lowers the level in the room and extends the bottle. Buy the 50ml at ₹849 rather than the 130ml, because you should not commit to four months of the loudest composition in the range before you know you like living with it.
5. And placement, which costs nothing. Far wall, not the bedside table; waist to chest height, clear space, out of direct sun and away from an AC draught. A draught strips the reeds and empties the bottle early while delivering less to the room.
6. The honest refusal case. If the bedroom is under about 100 sq ft and shut all night, or if someone else sleeps there and does not want it, put Fresh Brew in the adjoining room and let it arrive through the doorway. Then buy Evening Calm at ₹799 for the bedroom itself. The person who dislikes a fragrance sets the ceiling, not the person who likes it.
7. What no reed diffuser will do. It cannot reproduce a café, because a café is a process — grinding, steam, milk, hot metal, and a door opening every ninety seconds. A reed is constant, low and unchanging. You are buying the roasted-and-sweet character, not the event, and I make no claim about how anyone else will read it.

Part one — what a café smells of, and what a reed can carry
Half the disappointment in this particular request comes from a mismatch nobody names. A coffee shop is not a smell. It is a sequence of events happening in a ventilated room. Some of that sequence transfers to a reed diffuser beautifully; some of it cannot transfer at all.
Fresh Brew₹849 · 50mlThe roasted end of coffee and the whole of vanilla are built from comparatively heavy, low-volatility materials. In a spray they are the slow half of a composition and take time to arrive. On a reed they are the ideal payload, because the delivery is patient by design — oil climbs the fibre and leaves the exposed length at a steady rate for weeks. A fragile citrus loses its brightest materials in the first days; a roasted-vanillic structure keeps almost all of itself for the life of the bottle. That is why Fresh Brew is the most consistent thing in my range from week one to week eight.Part two — the same bottle, room by room
One composition, five places to stand it. The columns below are the three room properties that actually decide how Fresh Brew behaves — floor area, how long the door stays shut, and how long you are in there without leaving.
| Room | How long the door stays shut | Hours you spend in it unbroken | Reeds to start with | Verdict for Fresh Brew |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bedroom, 100–150 sq ft ★ | Most of the night, and often the day | Long — the longest in the flat | Three, and add a fourth only after a fortnight | Workable at low dose, at the far wall. Never six reeds |
| Bedroom under 100 sq ft | Shut for hours at a time | Long, in very little air | Two, honestly, and it may still be too much | The room where I would move the bottle next door instead |
| Living room, 200–300 sq ft | Rarely shut at all | Short bursts, with people moving through | Six — this is what the composition was built for | The right room. Everything that is a liability upstairs is a virtue here |
| Home office or study | Shut while you work | Several hours, seated and still | Three or four | Good, and the closest thing to the café association you will get |
| Kitchen or dining area | Open, with extraction running | Short and busy | Six | Fine — but never diffuse over live cooking; extract, air, then let it settle |
| The honest caveat: the first three days of any new bottle are the loudest it will ever be — the reeds have just soaked and the most volatile materials are leaving. With Fresh Brew in a bedroom that opening can be genuinely too much even at three reeds; it is the settling period, not the product's level. Give it to the end of week one, and if it is still too present remove a reed rather than the bottle. Strength positions on this page are places on SOSA's own internal scale at six reeds, not an industry standard, not a concentration and not a ranking of quality. | ||||

Part three — holding the tension: strongest bottle, hardest room
I could resolve this page by steering you to something softer and never mentioning that the thing you asked for is on my own shelf. That would be dishonest by omission. Fresh Brew is exactly what you described, and it is the wrong strength for the room you named, and both sentences are true at once. The way out is not a compromise scent but a compromise on dose and geometry — the two variables a reed diffuser actually gives you.
Dose first. The six reeds in the box are a calibration for an average room, not a minimum. Reed count is the only true volume control you have — the rate at which oil leaves the bottle is set by how much soaked reed surface is exposed, so three reeds is a genuinely different level rather than a token gesture, and it stretches the bottle past the usual 6–8 weeks. Geometry second: waist to chest height, and as far from the bed as the room allows. Keep it out of direct sun and away from an AC draught — a draught strips reeds faster while carrying scent away from you, so you get a weaker room and a shorter bottle at once. If after a fortnight it is still more than you want, take a reed out. If you barely register it, that is likely adaptation rather than fading; leave the room for an hour, or ask someone who has just arrived.
There is a case where this bottle does not belong in your bedroom at all. If the room is under about 100 sq ft with the door shut most of the day, two reeds may still be too much, and the fix is spatial: stand Fresh Brew in the room next door and leave the bedroom door open, so what reaches you is the diluted edge rather than the source. That is closer to the café experience anyway — in a café you are never sitting on top of the grinder. The other case is a shared bedroom: if the person you share it with finds it too much, they are right and the conversation is over; buy Evening Calm at ₹799 for that room and keep the coffee for one that is yours. One thing I will not tell you is how a visitor will describe your home. I can tell you what is in the bottle and how to dose it; nobody can sell you someone else's impression.
Part four — what to buy, at what dose, in which room
Six bedrooms, six versions of this purchase. Every row names a size, a reed count and a position, because with this composition those three decide the outcome far more than the choice of scent does.
| Your bedroom | What to buy | Reeds and placement | What it costs |
|---|---|---|---|
| 110–150 sq ft, door shut at night ★ | Fresh Brew 50ml | Three reeds, far wall from the bed, waist to chest height | ₹849 |
| Under 100 sq ft, shut most of the day | Fresh Brew 50ml, but not in this room | Three reeds, standing next door, bedroom door left open | ₹849 |
| Shared, and the other person is unsure | Evening Calm 50ml here, coffee elsewhere | Three reeds. Their tolerance sets the ceiling, not yours | ₹799 |
| A study or work corner rather than a bedroom | Fresh Brew 50ml | Four reeds, across the room from the desk | ₹849 |
| You already know you love it and want months of it | Fresh Brew 130ml, 14–18 weeks | Still three or four reeds. The bigger bottle buys duration, never reach | ₹1,349 |
| You want coffee in one room and something else next door | Warmth & Bloom duo, 2 × 50ml | They meet on warmth and a soft musk, so the doorway has no seam | ₹1,598 |
Versailles
Fresh Brew took longer than any other composition in the range, and the difficulty was never the coffee. Roasted materials are seductive on a blotter and treacherous in a room: push them a fraction too far and the result stops reading as coffee and starts reading as burnt. Kerala vanilla was the counterweight, and the exercise was finding the point where warmth held the roast without turning it into dessert.
When it was finished it measured out as the strongest thing we make, and I was pleased about that for roughly a week. Then the bedroom questions started arriving, and I realised the number was not a boast but a warning label. Nine and a half on our own scale means it fills a living room from a corner. In a hundred square feet with the door shut it will do more than most people want.
So I would rather write the reed count on the page than let the bottle explain itself the hard way in week one. Three reeds, far wall. It is the least glamorous advice I give and the piece I most often get thanked for. Nothing about this bottle needs turning up; it needs room. Made in small batches in Pune, and a part of every order funds a girl's classroom through Nanhi Kali.

A reed diffuser adds fragrance to a room. It does not clean, purify or filter air, remove or neutralise cooking, damp or smoke smells, reduce humidity, or change how anyone feels. A reed diffuser adds no moisture to the air; ultrasonic machines work by aerosolising water and therefore do. A persistent musty smell indicates moisture that needs finding and drying, and SOSA sells no dehumidifier or air purifier. Ventilate or extract first; add fragrance second. Evaporation rate rises with warmth and falls with humidity, and airflow carries scent away from the bottle — so performance varies with season, ventilation, ceiling height and room use; longevity figures are typical ranges, not guarantees. Not noticing a constant fragrance is ordinary olfactory adaptation; the reliable checks are leaving the room and returning, or asking someone who has just arrived. Strength figures are positions on SOSA’s own internal scale, not an industry standard. Fragrance oil is flammable — keep bottles away from open flame and out of direct sunlight, and out of reach of children and pets.
