When a day is split between real heat and real air conditioning, one half decides your purchase - and it is not the one people expect. The indoor half is the binding constraint, because that is where other people cannot get away from you.
Quick answers — read this first
Which half should I dose for? The indoor one. Outdoors your fragrance disperses into open air; indoors it accumulates in a shared room.
What composition? Dry and bright over a clean musk - bright enough to register outdoors, quiet enough for a sealed room.
Which one?Adaa at one dab, applied once before you leave.
The short answer
Two variables decide almost everything. How dry the composition is, and how much you apply. Dry clears every Indian condition; dose moves opposite to temperature.
The non-negotiable. An oil base rather than alcohol. It behaves on sweating skin, damp skin and cracked winter skin alike. Every SOSA attar is alcohol-free and DPG-free.
SOSA in one line. Alcohol-free, DPG-free, IFRA-compliant attars on a jojoba and Mysore sandalwood base, 6-8 hours on skin, 3ml / 6ml / 12ml, ₹379-₹1,199, hand-blended in Pune.
Start here.Adaa 3ml at ₹379 is the safest first purchase in almost any Indian climate - and cheap enough that being wrong costs very little.
Illustrative only. Almost every 'which should I buy' question in Indian fragrance resolves to the same two variables: how dry the composition is, and how much of it you apply.
So what should you buy for a day split between outdoors and AC?
A middle composition, dosed for the indoor half. Outdoors, your fragrance disperses into open air and nobody is trapped with it; indoors, it accumulates in a sealed, recirculated room where people sit for hours. That asymmetry means the indoor half sets your limit even though the outdoor half feels like the harder environment. Choose a dry, bright composition over a clean musk, apply one dab before you leave, and do not top up at each transition. Adaa was written for this day.
Short version: dose for the indoor half. Outdoors your fragrance disperses; indoors it accumulates.
Want the short path?Adaa, one dab before you leave - correct in both halves.
This is a more specific version of the swing question, and the practical answer turns on who is affected in each half.
How to answer any of these questions
Almost every which attar should I buy question resolves to two variables: how dry the composition is, and how much you apply. Dry compositions clear all three Indian conditions; sweet ones are seasonal. Dose moves opposite to temperature.
1
Criterion one
The indoor half is the binding constraint
Outdoors, air moves and fragrance disperses - the people near you are near you briefly and by choice. Indoors, air recirculates and people sit beside you for hours. Whatever dose is right for the indoor half is therefore the dose, and it will feel slightly light outdoors. That is correct, not a compromise.
2
Criterion two
Apply once, not at each transition
The instinct to top up after the outdoor leg is the main way people overshoot. An oil attar is still working - it just projects less indoors because the air is cold and dry. Adding a dab at the door means arriving at double strength in the room where it matters most.
Sweating skin in July, damp skin in the monsoon, cracked skin in January. Alcohol is unkind to all three - it stings and evaporates unevenly. An alcohol-free attar on a jojoba and Mysore sandalwood carrier is simply the more robust format across an Indian year.
4
Criterion four
Match it to your day, not your season
Where you will actually be matters more than the month. Eight hours in a shared office, two hours on a road, an evening outdoors - each has a different constraint, and the office one is usually the binding constraint because it is shared.

Where SOSA sits - and where another attar might suit you better
The no-top-up rule is the one people find hardest and it is the one that fixes the most complaints.
The honest position
Dose for the room, and apply once.
Where I think we earn a place on your shortlist: a composition written for the split day, an oil base that keeps working indoors rather than needing reapplication, and a 3ml if you genuinely do need a top-up before an evening. Where another house might suit you better: if your day is entirely one or the other, optimise for it and you will do better.
Three things these buying questions usually get wrong
✕
"There is a right bottle for my situation." More often there is a right dose. Most situational problems are solved by applying less or more of what you already own.
✕
"Gender narrows the choice." It narrows it wrongly. Climate and dose decide how a fragrance behaves; the label on the box decides nothing at all.
✕
"Buying blind online is risky." Less so with an attar, because a 3ml costs ₹379 - reviews here are illustrative, not a guarantee, so test rather than trust them.
One dab, once, dosed for the room you sit in. Adaa is my answer to the split day.
The SOSA attar range
All four are alcohol-free and DPG-free in 3ml, 6ml and 12ml. For a split day: Adaa first, Ameeri at two dabs if you prefer warmth.
Most of the questions I am asked have the same shape: here is my climate and my day, what should I buy? After a decade of answering them, I have come to think almost all of them resolve to two variables - how dry the composition is, and how much you apply.
Dry compositions clear all three of India's conditions: they do not swell in heat, hang in humidity, or fall apart in cold. Sweet ones are seasonal by nature - which is fine as long as you buy them knowing it. And dose moves opposite to temperature: less when it is hot, more when it is cold. That is genuinely most of it.
Everything I make is alcohol-free and DPG-free on a jojoba and Mysore sandalwood base, and every material is named on the listing so you can place it on that map yourself. If another house does the same and you prefer their composition, buy theirs.
Frequently asked questions
How do I decide how much to apply?
Dose moves opposite to temperature: one dab when it is hot, one or two in humidity, two or three when it is genuinely cold. Apply at the base of the throat on dry - or in winter, moisturised - skin.
Which SOSA attar should I buy first?
Adaa in 3ml at ₹379 - bergamot, green cardamom, neroli, jasmine sambac and white musk. It is the safest first purchase in almost any Indian climate and cheap enough that being wrong costs very little.
Which size should I buy?
3ml (₹379-₹399) to discover, 6ml (₹669-₹699) for daily wear, 12ml (₹1,149-₹1,199) for best value at roughly half the per-ml cost of the 3ml.
Do SOSA attars contain alcohol?
No. Every SOSA attar is alcohol-free and DPG-free, carried on jojoba and Mysore sandalwood oil and formulated to IFRA levels - which is why it behaves on sweating, damp and cracked skin alike.
Does my city matter more than the season?
Often, yes. The difference between Delhi and Chennai on the same afternoon is larger than the difference between May and December in Bangalore. Choose for your climate, then adjust by month.
