This is the one question in this family I cannot answer cleanly, and I would rather tell you that in the first paragraph than spend eight hundred words getting there. Woods and smoke are not neighbours in perfumery. They are frequently the same materials, used at different strengths, and pulling them apart narrows the shelf to almost nothing.
Quick answers — read this first
Why is woody-without-smoky so hard to find? Because the materials overlap. A great many woody compositions get their dryness from materials that are smoky by nature - cedar can read pencil-shaving sharp, vetiver can read tarry, oud can read medicinal or burnt, and a leather accord is routinely used to make a wood feel worn-in rather than raw. Smoke is often the thing doing the drying. So when you remove every smoky material from a woody brief, you also remove most of what makes it read as wood rather than as bark. That is the genuine difficulty, and it is not a fault in your request.

What is the honest answer at SOSA? SOSA makes exactly four attars, and none of them is a wood-led composition without either smoke or oud in it. Nawaab is the woody one - white royal oud, Mysore sandalwood, Kashmir saffron, aged tobacco, leather and amber - and the tobacco and leather are exactly the smoke you are avoiding. It is ₹399 for the 3ml and it is a real answer only if leather is acceptable to you. If it is not, SOSA has nothing for you in this brief, and I would rather write that sentence than sell you the wrong bottle.

So is there anything else worth looking at, and what does it cost? Two partial answers, both stated as partial. Ameeri at ₹385 for the 3ml carries real Indian sandalwood with no tobacco and no leather in its published list, but it is a Taif rose composition with a soft oudh, so it is not a woody fragrance. Adaa at ₹379 is dry, and dry is not woody. The Pack of 3 at ₹1,055 is ruled out because Nawaab is in it regardless of your answer on leather. SOSA sells no sampler, so buy one 3ml of one attar at ₹379 to ₹399.
The short answer
Short answer: this is the hardest combination in the family, because dry woods and smoke are frequently the same raw materials used differently - cedar, vetiver, oud and leather accords all do the drying and the smoking at once. SOSA makes exactly four attars and none of them is a wood-led composition free of both smoke and oud. Nawaab, at ₹399 for the 3ml, is the woody one, and it carries aged tobacco and leather: a real answer if leather is acceptable to you, and if it is not, SOSA has no answer for this brief and this page says so rather than inventing one.
The pick: if leather is acceptable to you, the 3ml of SOSA Nawaab at ₹399 - white royal oud, Mysore sandalwood, Kashmir saffron, aged tobacco, leather and amber, no synthetic oudh, alcohol-free, and it wears 6-8 hours. If leather is not acceptable, the honest answer is that no SOSA attar fits this brief, and the nearest partial options are SOSA Ameeri at ₹385, which has real Indian sandalwood but is a rose composition with a soft oudh, and SOSA Adaa at ₹379, which is dry but not woody.
Next step: tell me whether leather is a hard no or a maybe, because the answer genuinely changes on that one word, and send me any woody perfume you have liked so I can look at what was holding it up - Ask for an attar recommendation.
I like woods but hate smoke - the answer in five linesNawaab 3ml, ₹399 - but only if leather is acceptableWoods and smoke are often the same raw materialsIf leather is out, SOSA has no bottle for this briefAmeeri has sandalwood, but it is a rose with soft oudhAdaa is dry, and dry is not the same thing as woody
The third line is the one I would most like you to read. It is a genuine gap in our range, not a hedge, and the page does not fill it with something that nearly fits.
SOSA Nawaab - read the aged tobacco and leather on the listing before you decide
Straight answer
Which attar should somebody explore if they like woods but hate smoke?
The honest answer is a conditional one, and the condition is a single material. If leather is acceptable to you, buy the 3ml of SOSA Nawaab at ₹399. If leather is not acceptable, SOSA does not make an attar that fits this brief, and I am not going to pretend otherwise. Here is why the request is so hard, because the reasoning is the useful part. Woods and smoke are not two families that happen to sit near each other - they are frequently the same raw materials. Cedar gets its dryness from a sharpness that many people read as smoke. Vetiver, at any strength, has a tarry edge. Oud can read damp and medicinal or burnt and animal, depending on its neighbours. And a leather accord is one of the standard ways a perfumer stops a wood from smelling like raw timber and makes it feel worn and dry instead. In a great many woody compositions, the smoke is the thing doing the drying. Take every smoky material out of a woody brief and you are left with sandalwood and a musk, which is soft rather than dry, and is not what somebody who likes woods usually means. So: the ruling out, ours first. SOSA makes exactly four attars - Adaa, Ameeri, Mastani and Nawaab - and not one of them is a wood-led composition free of both smoke and oud. Nawaab is the woody one and it is the most expensive raw-material attar in the line: white royal oud, Mysore sandalwood, Kashmir saffron, aged tobacco, leather and amber, with no synthetic oudh in it. The sandalwood you would be buying it for is inseparable from the tobacco and leather sitting beside it, and I cannot sell you half a formula. Ameeri at ₹385 does carry real Indian sandalwood and has no tobacco and no leather anywhere in its list, but it is a Taif rose composition with Persian saffron and a soft oudh, so it is a rose you can smell sandalwood underneath rather than a woody fragrance, and its rose and its oudh are both disclosed here. Adaa at ₹379 is bergamot, green cardamom, neroli, jasmine sambac and white musk - genuinely dry, and dry is not woody, which is a distinction I would rather make than lose. Mastani carries oudh, vanilla and tonka, so it is out. The Pack of 3 at ₹1,055 contains Nawaab regardless of your answer on leather, and excludes Adaa, so it is not your purchase. Nawaab is alcohol-free, carries no DPG and wears 6-8 hours, the only longevity figure SOSA publishes. And the standing limits: SOSA publishes no outcome claim for a fragrance, because there is no honest way to measure one, and makes no health claim of any kind. Ask for an attar recommendation and tell me where your line on leather sits.
Woods and smoke are often the same materials, so this brief is genuinely hard. Nawaab at ₹399 for the 3ml is the woody attar, and it carries aged tobacco and leather: a yes if leather is acceptable, and if it is not, SOSA has no attar that fits and this page says so rather than inventing one.
The conditional bottle is SOSA Nawaab - white royal oud, Mysore sandalwood and Kashmir saffron, with aged tobacco, leather and amber stated plainly because they are the reason you might say no. No synthetic oudh, alcohol-free, wears 6-8 hours. ₹399 for the 3ml, and only if leather is acceptable.

Why this request is the hard one
In most woody compositions the smoke is the thing doing the drying, which is why removing it removes the wood too

The bottle, and the condition attached

One conditional recommendation and one partial alternative, both with their awkward notes printed on the card. Neither is a clean fit for your brief and neither is presented as one.

SOSA Nawaab
A yes only if leather is acceptable to you
SOSA Nawaab, 3ml
White royal oud, Mysore sandalwood, Kashmir saffron, aged tobacco, leather and amber. The woody attar in the range and the heaviest thing SOSA makes for skin, with the two smoky materials named rather than buried. No synthetic oudh, alcohol-free, wears 6-8 hours. ₹399 for the 3ml, which is the sample size.
From ₹399
SOSA Ameeri
Sandalwood without tobacco or leather, but not a woody fragrance
SOSA Ameeri, 3ml
Taif rose, real Indian sandalwood, Persian saffron and a soft oudh, with no tobacco and no leather in the published list. This is a rose composition you can smell sandalwood beneath, not a wood-led one, and its rose and oudh are stated so you can rule it out yourself. ₹385 for the 3ml.
From ₹385
SOSA Nawaab
The woody attar, with the condition stated in full
SOSA Nawaab
3ml, 6ml and 12ml at ₹399, ₹699 and ₹1,199. Published notes: white royal oud, Mysore sandalwood, Kashmir saffron, aged tobacco, leather and amber. No synthetic oudh, and it is the most expensive raw-material attar in the line. An alcohol-free perfume oil with no DPG carriers on a skin-safe jojoba and sandalwood base, hand-blended in Pune, and it wears 6-8 hours, the only longevity figure SOSA publishes. It is the heaviest thing SOSA makes for skin, and its aged tobacco and leather are the reason this page recommends it conditionally rather than outright.

Why woods and smoke share materials, and what that leaves you

Three steps: the material fact, the question only you can answer, and the ruling out. The second one decides everything.

1
Understand what dries a wood out
The smoky materials are usually the ones giving a woody composition its bite
Raw sandalwood on its own is creamy and soft, closer to warm milk than to timber. That is not what most people mean by woody. The dry, sharp, structural quality people are after comes from other materials: cedar, with its pencil-shaving edge; vetiver, which is rooty and faintly tarry; oud, which can go medicinal or burnt; and a leather accord, which is the standard way of making a wood feel used rather than freshly cut. Every one of those has a smoky reading available to it. So a brief that says woody but not smoky is asking a perfumer to keep the effect and remove the cause, and there is not much left when you do.
Tip: If you have liked a woody perfume before, look up its notes. There is usually a smoky material in there doing quiet work.
SOSA Nawaab
One bottle of Nawaab from ₹399 is the whole purchase here.

2
Decide whether leather is a no or a maybe
This is the one question that changes the answer, and only you can settle it
Leather in perfumery is not hide. It is an accord, built to suggest one, and its character ranges from soft and suede-like to hard and tarry. In Nawaab it sits with aged tobacco, which pushes the whole thing towards the smoky-leathery end. If leather is simply not a smell you want on you, Nawaab is out, and once Nawaab is out there is no wood-led SOSA attar left. If leather is something you have disliked in harsh drugstore form but not in principle, then Nawaab is worth the 3ml at ₹399 and you will know within one day of wearing it. What you should not do is buy the 12ml at ₹1,199 to find out.
Tip: Answer in one word before you shop. Leather: yes or no. The whole recommendation turns on it.
SOSA Nawaab
One bottle of Nawaab from ₹399 is the whole purchase here.
See SOSA Nawaab →
3
Then look at the gap without flinching
SOSA makes no wood-led attar free of both smoke and oud, and that is the finding
Four attars, and here is where each one lands on this brief. Nawaab is woody and carries tobacco and leather. Ameeri has real Indian sandalwood and no smoke material at all, but it is a Taif rose composition with a soft oudh, so it is not woody in the way you mean, and the rose and oudh are disclosed. Mastani has Mysore sandalwood buried under two florals plus oudh, vanilla and tonka. Adaa has no wood in its published list whatsoever: bergamot, green cardamom, neroli, jasmine sambac and white musk. It is dry, and dry is a different axis from woody. So if leather is out, the honest position is that SOSA has no answer here, and a solid body perfume or nothing at all is a better outcome than the wrong bottle.
SOSA Ameeri
One bottle of Ameeri from ₹385 is the whole purchase here.
See SOSA Ameeri →
The SOSA principle
Dry woods and smoke are frequently the same raw materials used at different strengths, so a brief that excludes one tends to exclude the other by accident.
Which is why this is the only page in the family that ends in a condition rather than a recommendation, and why the condition is a single word: leather.
SOSA Nawaab
The conditional yes: SOSA Nawaab is white royal oud, Mysore sandalwood, Kashmir saffron, aged tobacco, leather and amber. ₹399 for the 3ml, and only if leather is acceptable to you.

Working out whether leather is your line

Read the table as a sequence of yes-or-no questions rather than as a list of products, because the answer really does hinge on the first two rows.

The SOSA shortlist
The woody-not-smoky brief, taken apart material by material
The step What to do
SOSA NawaabIs leather acceptable to you?
If yes, Nawaab at ₹399 for the 3ml is a real answer, with its aged tobacco and leather stated. If no, stop here: no SOSA attar is wood-led without smoke or oud.
Is oud acceptable to you?
If not, the list shortens again. Three of SOSA's four attars contain oud and only Adaa does not, and Adaa has no wood in its published list at all.
SOSA AmeeriWould sandalwood under a rose do?
Then Ameeri at ₹385 has real Indian sandalwood and no smoke material, with Taif rose and a soft oudh over it. Stated as a partial answer, not a woody one.
Would dry do instead of woody?
Adaa at ₹379 is bergamot, green cardamom, neroli, jasmine sambac and white musk: dry and short, with no wood in it. Different axis, and I will not blur them.
Is vetiver worth looking at?
Not here. There is no vetiver anywhere on the SOSA skin line - the vetiver on the store is a car perfume and must never be worn on skin.
If none of those fit?
Then buy nothing yet. That is a legitimate outcome, and it is better than a 12ml at ₹1,199 of something you already suspect you dislike.

The separation this page rests on - that smoke and oud are two different objections - is worked out properly in I don't want my attar to smell smoky, and it is worth reading first if you are not yet sure which of the two you mean. The compound version of your brief, with oud and incense ruled out as well, hits the same wall from the other side in I hate oud, incense and smoky fragrances but love woods. SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house and every attar named here is its own composition.

SOSA Nawaab
Sandalwood with no smoke beside it: SOSA Ameeri has real Indian sandalwood and no tobacco or leather, but it is a Taif rose with a soft oudh rather than a woody composition. ₹385 for the 3ml.
One bottle, one condition, one size
SOSA Nawaab is ₹399 for 3ml - buy it only if leather is acceptable, and buy the 3ml rather than the 12ml.

I would rather write the sentence that loses the sale than sell you half a formula and let you find the other half at home.
— Sonal Sahani, SOSA
Why this bottle comes with a condition
The Mysore sandalwood you would buy Nawaab for cannot be separated from the aged tobacco and leather sitting beside it

The SOSA attar specification

SOSA makes exactly four attars, and on this particular brief the range is genuinely short of an answer, so the table below includes the gap as well as the products. The thing to take away is the material fact rather than the product: in most woody compositions the smoky materials are the ones doing the drying, so the two are hard to separate anywhere, not only here. SOSA makes exactly four attars and none of them is a wood-led composition free of both smoke and oud - that is a real gap in the range and this page does not fill it with something that nearly fits. Nawaab is a conditional yes with its aged tobacco and leather disclosed; the Pack of 3 is ruled out because it contains Nawaab regardless. The only longevity figure SOSA publishes is 6-8 hours for the attars; nothing is published for the perfume line or the solids, and no note list is published for the solids at all, which is why this page describes only their format. SOSA publishes no outcome claim for a fragrance, because there is no honest way to measure one, and makes no health or skin-safety claim of any kind. A note from Sonal

This is the letter I find hardest to answer well, and it arrives often. Somebody tells me they love the smell of wood - a workshop, a cedar cupboard, sandalwood paste - and that every woody perfume they have tried came out smoky on them. They usually assume they have been unlucky. They have not. They have run into a real constraint in how these compositions are built, and no amount of shopping around will make it go away.

The constraint is this. Sandalwood on its own is soft and creamy; it does not give you the dry, structured feeling people mean by woody. That feeling comes from cedar, vetiver, oud and leather accords, and every one of those carries a smoky reading. Perfumers use them precisely because they take the sweetness off a wood and make it feel used rather than raw. So when you ask for woody without smoky, you are asking for the result without the mechanism. It is a reasonable thing to want, and it is genuinely scarce, and I would rather explain the scarcity than dress up something that does not fit.

My answer is therefore conditional. If leather is acceptable to you, Nawaab at ₹399 for 3ml is the bottle, and its aged tobacco and leather are printed on the listing and on this page. If leather is a hard no, then SOSA has no attar for this brief - Ameeri at ₹385 has real Indian sandalwood but is a rose with a soft oudh, and Adaa at ₹379 is dry rather than woody. Buy the 3ml or buy nothing yet; both are better than the 12ml. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

I like woods but hate smoke - which attar should I explore?
Nawaab, at Rs 399 for the 3ml, but only if leather is acceptable to you. Its published notes are white royal oud, Mysore sandalwood, Kashmir saffron, aged tobacco, leather and amber, and the tobacco and leather are the smoky part. If leather is a hard no, SOSA makes exactly four attars and none of them is a wood-led composition without smoke or oud, so the honest answer is that nothing in the range fits this brief.
Why is it so hard to find a woody fragrance that is not smoky?
Because the materials overlap. Sandalwood alone is soft and creamy rather than dry, so the dryness people want from a woody perfume usually comes from cedar, vetiver, oud or a leather accord, and every one of those has a smoky reading available to it. In many woody compositions the smoke is the thing doing the drying. Remove it and you remove most of what made the perfume read as wood in the first place.
Does SOSA make an oud-free woody attar?
No. That is a genuine gap rather than something being withheld. Three of SOSA's four attars contain oud and only Adaa does not, and Adaa has no wood at all in its published list: bergamot, green cardamom, neroli, jasmine sambac and white musk. Ameeri carries real Indian sandalwood but it is a Taif rose composition with a soft oudh. There is no vetiver anywhere on the SOSA skin line either.
Is Ameeri a woody attar?
Not really, and I would rather be clear about it. Its published notes are Taif rose, real Indian sandalwood, Persian saffron and a soft oudh, so there is genuine sandalwood in it and no tobacco or leather anywhere in the list. But the rose is the subject of the composition and the sandalwood is underneath it, so it reads as a rose you can smell wood beneath rather than as a woody fragrance. Rs 385 for the 3ml, with the rose and the oudh both disclosed.
Should I buy the Pack of 3 to compare the woods?
No. The Pack of 3 at Rs 1,055 is Ameeri, Nawaab and Mastani, so you would be paying for the smoky one whether or not leather turns out to be acceptable, plus a sweet floral with vanilla and tonka, and it contains no Adaa. SOSA sells no sampler and no discovery set, so the sensible route is one 3ml of one attar at Rs 379 to Rs 399, worn for a full day before you decide anything.
SOSA Nawaab
And the gap, stated plainly: SOSA makes no wood-led attar free of both smoke and oud. If leather is a hard no for you, there is nothing in the range that fits this brief and I would rather say so.

Facts verified 17 September 2026 against the live SOSA product pages: SOSA makes four attars, each sold in three sizes, 3ml, 6ml and 12ml. SOSA Adaa is ₹379, ₹669 and ₹1,149, with published notes of bergamot, green cardamom, neroli, jasmine sambac and white musk. SOSA Ameeri is ₹385, ₹679 and ₹1,165, with published notes of Taif rose, Indian sandalwood, Persian saffron and soft oudh. SOSA Mastani is ₹389, ₹685 and ₹1,179, with published notes of night-blooming jasmine, Damask rose, Mysore sandalwood, oudh, vanilla and tonka. SOSA Nawaab is ₹399, ₹699 and ₹1,199, with published notes of white royal oud, Mysore sandalwood, Kashmir saffron, aged tobacco, leather and amber. All four are alcohol-free perfume oils with no DPG carriers, on a skin-safe jojoba and sandalwood base, composed by an ISIPCA Versailles-trained perfumer and hand-blended in Pune, and the only longevity figure SOSA publishes for them is that they wear 6-8 hours. The Pack of 3 (₹1,055, ₹1,859 and ₹3,189) is Ameeri, Nawaab and Mastani, and it does not include Adaa. The SOSA perfume line - including Khayaal and Samundar - comes in 10ml, 50ml and 100ml and is referred to on these pages by its SOSA name and its accord only. SOSA publishes no note list and no longevity figure for the solid body perfumes or for the perfume line, so neither is given here, and how a solid body perfume smells is never described. SOSA sells no attar sampler and no discovery set, which is why the 3ml is the sample size and is what these pages recommend buying first. Free shipping above ₹499 is the only logistics fact stated on these pages. Choosing a fragrance is a matter of preference: SOSA makes no health, skin-safety, hypoallergenic, therapeutic or wellbeing claim for any fragrance, makes no claim about compliments, confidence or any other outcome of wearing one, and offers nothing here as medical advice - a reaction on skin is a conversation for a doctor rather than for a perfumer.
