What causes weak or no mist? Usually a filmed or scaled plate. Mineral scale from hard water, or oily residue from the wrong fragrance, damps the vibration. A vinegar descale and a cotton-bud wipe of the plate normally fixes it.
How do I avoid white dust? Use filtered or RO water, especially in hard-water cities. White dust is minerals from tap water carried out on the mist, not anything from the fragrance.
Step by step: daily, weekly and the plate
None of this needs tools. A soft cloth, some cotton buds and a bottle of white vinegar cover everything.
Never scrape the plate with anything metal or abrasive. It is a precision part, and a scratch is one of the few things that really does damage a unit. Soft cloth, cotton bud, diluted vinegar, nothing harsher.
If the mist ever weakens, do the descale before you assume the diffuser has failed. In my experience a filmed plate is the culprit almost every time, and five minutes of vinegar brings it straight back.
Water, white dust and the fragrance that keeps it clean
Two inputs decide how often you will be cleaning: the water you use and the fragrance you add.
The worry: "My diffuser leaves a fine white dust on the furniture, so it must be faulty." It is not faulty. That dust is dissolved minerals from hard tap water, atomised out with the mist and settling as it dries. Switch to filtered or RO water and it disappears.
Fill with clean, room-temperature water (filtered or RO in hard-water cities to avoid mineral white dust), never hot water. The mist is cool, with no heat, and it scents a room rather than purifying the air. In hard-water cities this is the single biggest thing you can do, both to stop white dust and to slow the scale that clogs the plate. Hot water is a separate mistake: these are cool-mist units with no heater, and hot water can warp seals and stress the plate.
Use only SOSA's water-based Hotel Collection fragrance in these diffusers. Raw essential oils, perfumes and carrier oils are too thick or solvent-heavy, so they can clog the ultrasonic misting plate and damage the unit. This is where fragrance choice becomes a maintenance decision. A raw essential or carrier oil leaves a sticky film on the plate every single time you run it, so you would be fighting residue constantly. SOSA's water-based Hotel Collection disperses into the water and lifts out cleanly, so the plate stays clear and your weekly descale stays quick.
The short version: filtered water, room temperature, water-based fragrance, and a quick vinegar descale each week. Do that and the machine will outlast most gadgets in your home.

Versailles
I trained as a perfumer at ISIPCA in Versailles, but half the questions we get are not about scent at all - they are about the machine. Indian rooms are bone-dry from AC and winter, and most gadget diffusers are too small, too loud, or quit by midnight. So we made three: Boond (300ml, desk), Sukoon (500ml, bedroom, with a remote and mood light) and Megh (6L, whole-room), each shipping with three of our fragrances.
They are cool-mist ultrasonic diffusers - an ultrasonic plate turns water into a fine, cool mist with no heating element, so there is no boiling water or burn risk, and each has an auto shut-off when the tank runs dry.
One thing I say on every listing and will say here: use only SOSA's water-based Hotel Collection fragrance. Raw essential oils, perfumes and carrier oils are thick or solvent-heavy and can clog the misting plate and damage the unit. A few drops of our water-based fragrance in the tank mists cleanly and scents the whole room.
