Owners of two-floor clinics almost always ask for one number, expecting the answer to scale the same way it would for one big open floor. It does not, and the reason is a physical one worth understanding before buying anything: a staircase is a far weaker connection for moving air than an open doorway is.
Quick answers — read this first
How many scent machines does a two-floor dermatology clinic need? Usually one per floor's public area, which for most clinics means two SOSA Vaayu units (₹11,999 each) rather than one. Floors rarely share air the way one open room does, so a staircase alone does not reliably carry scent between them, and each floor's connected public zone needs to be sized on its own.

What if only the ground floor has a real waiting area and upstairs is all treatment rooms? Then one machine, not two. A floor that consists entirely of treatment and procedure rooms is excluded from the plan by rule, so it does not need a diffuser of its own regardless of which floor it sits on. Only the ground floor's public area, covered by one SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999), is scented.

Can one machine ever cover both floors of a clinic? Sometimes, if both floors are served by one shared, accessible central duct rather than separate independent air handling. In that specific case, one SOSA Angaan (₹25,999), an HVAC nebulising diffuser rated to 3,000m³, about 8,000-10,000 sq ft, can be the more practical single answer. Most small clinics do not have that kind of shared ducting, so two Vaayu units remains the more common, honest recommendation.
The short answer
Short answer: usually two SOSA Vaayu units (₹11,999 each), one per floor's public area, because floors rarely share air the way one open room does. A floor that is entirely treatment rooms needs none. Only where both floors genuinely share one central HVAC duct does a single SOSA Angaan (₹25,999) become the more practical single-machine answer.
The pick: one SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) per floor with a genuine public area - and only one SOSA Angaan (₹25,999) if both floors are served by one shared, accessible central duct.
Next step: send us both floor plans and we will tell you the honest machine count, floor by floor - ask for a clinic scenting plan.

The instinct is to ask for one number for the whole building. The honest answer is usually two smaller ones - one per floor's public area - because a staircase is a far weaker air connection than an open doorway.

Straight answer
How many scent machines does a two-floor dermatology clinic actually need?
Treat each floor as its own air volume, and size each one separately, floor by floor. This is the single most important idea in a two-floor clinic's scenting plan, and it follows directly from the same physics that makes one machine cover a whole open reception on a single floor: scent travels with moving, mixing air, and two rooms connected by an open doorway share that air far more readily than two floors connected only by a staircase. A stairwell does carry some air, but it is a slow, weak path compared with an open-plan room, so a machine on the ground floor rarely reaches the first floor in any useful, consistent way. In practice this means most two-floor dermatology clinics need two machines, not one - typically one SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) for the ground-floor public area (reception, waiting, entrance corridor) and, if the first floor has its own genuine public zone (a second waiting area, a counselling room with an open reception-style desk), a second Vaayu for that floor. Say this plainly, because it runs against the instinct to expect one bigger number for a bigger building: two smaller machines, one per floor, is the correct and normal answer here, not an oversell. The count changes in two directions from that default. It goes down when a floor is entirely treatment and procedure rooms with no independent public area - that floor needs no machine of its own at all, because those rooms stay unscented by rule regardless of which level they sit on, and a clinic with treatment rooms confined to the first floor while the ground floor holds reception may genuinely need only one machine for the whole building. It can occasionally combine into one larger machine when both floors are served by one shared, accessible central air handling duct rather than independent systems - in that specific case, one SOSA Angaan (₹25,999), an HVAC nebulising diffuser rated to 3,000m³, about 8,000-10,000 sq ft, connected into that shared duct, can scent both floors more evenly than two standalone Vaayu units working independently. Most small and mid-sized clinics do not have that kind of shared central ducting between floors, so this remains the exception rather than the default. Whichever configuration applies, the same rules travel with it unchanged: treatment and procedure rooms stay unscented on every floor, because patients frequently have compromised or sensitised skin and some are being investigated for fragrance allergy; fragrance is an ambience decision like lighting or seating with no clinical claim; and the clinician's judgement overrides any scenting plan, always, on both floors. Ask for a clinic scenting plan and send us both floor plans - we will size each floor honestly rather than assuming one number covers the building.
Usually two machines, one per floor's public area - floors do not share air the way one open room does. A treatment-only floor needs none; a shared central duct can occasionally mean one Angaan instead.
Most two-floor clinics need one SOSA Vaayu per floor's public area - 1000m³ each (about 2,000-3,000 sq ft), app timers, adjustable intensity, under 38dB, key-lock. Where both floors share one central duct, one SOSA Angaan (3,000m³, under 42dB) can replace both.

Why floors are counted separately, and what changes the number

Three ideas explain why a two-floor clinic is usually two smaller machines rather than one bigger number.

1
Floors are separate air volumes by default
A staircase is a weak connection compared with an open room
The logic that lets one machine cover a whole open reception on a single floor - moving, mixing air ignoring the lines drawn between rooms on a plan - does not extend upward through a staircase the same way. Stairwells do exchange some air with the floors above and below, but slowly and unevenly, nothing like the free mixing that happens across an open doorway on the same level. Treat each floor as its own connected air volume unless there is a specific, engineered reason to think otherwise, and size each floor's machine against its own public area rather than the building's combined square footage.
Tip: count each floor separately - a staircase is not the same connection as an open doorway.
SOSA Vaayu
One Vaayu per floor's public area is the honest default for most two-floor clinics.

2
A treatment-only floor needs no machine
The rule is not about coverage, it applies by floor just as it applies by room
If an entire floor is given over to treatment and procedure rooms - common in clinics that put consulting and reception on the ground floor and dedicated treatment suites upstairs - that floor is excluded from the scenting plan altogether, not scented lightly, excluded. Patients using those rooms frequently have compromised or sensitised skin and some are being investigated for fragrance allergy, and that reasoning does not weaken because the rooms happen to be one level up. A clinic laid out this way may genuinely need only one machine for the whole building, on the ground floor alone.
SOSA Vaayu
Where the ground floor is the only public zone, one Vaayu there is the complete answer.

3
A shared central duct is the one real exception
When one Angaan genuinely covers both floors
The exception to counting by floor is a building where both floors are served by one shared, accessible air handling duct - a single central HVAC system feeding both levels, rather than independent units on each floor. In that specific, structural case, one SOSA Angaan connected into the shared duct can scent both floors more evenly than two separate Vaayu units working independently, because the ducting itself is doing the cross-floor distribution that a staircase cannot. This is a genuine engineering question, not a size question, so it is worth confirming with whoever manages the building's HVAC before assuming it applies.
Tip: check the HVAC drawing before assuming a shared duct connects your two floors.
SOSA Angaan
The Angaan is built for exactly this - a large connected air volume distributed through central HVAC.
See SOSA Angaan →
The SOSA principle
A staircase is a far weaker connection for moving air than an open doorway. That single fact is why a two-floor clinic is usually two machines, not one.
Two smaller machines, one per floor, is the correct and normal answer here - not an oversell.
SOSA Vaayu
One per floor, by default: SOSA Vaayu, 1000m³ per floor's public area, app timers, adjustable intensity, under 38dB, ₹11,999 each.

A two-floor clinic, floor by floor

Here is the same logic laid out floor by floor, worth handing to a contractor working from two separate drawings.

If your clinic is one open floor rather than two, the sizing logic simplifies considerably - see how many scent machines a 2,000 sq ft dermatology clinic needs. And if your building shares HVAC with other tenants rather than being fully your own, that changes the recommendation further, covered in whether a clinic inside a larger building on shared HVAC can still scent just its own space. The whole-clinic brief is what a premium dermatology clinic should smell like. SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel.

Treat each floor of a two-floor clinic as its own air volume, size each one against its own public area, and expect two machines to be the normal, correct answer rather than an oversell. Fragrance here is an ambience decision like lighting or seating, with no health, clinical or therapeutic claim of any kind; it works alongside your hygiene protocol and ventilation, never as a substitute for either; and treatment and procedure rooms stay unscented on every floor, because patients here have compromised or sensitised skin and some are being investigated for fragrance allergy. The clinician's judgement overrides any scenting plan, always. Ask for a clinic scenting plan and send us both floor plans.

A note from Sonal

Owners of two-floor clinics almost always want one number for the whole building, and I understand why - it is how the rest of the fit-out has probably been budgeted. But air does not care about the budget spreadsheet, and a staircase genuinely is a much weaker connection than an open doorway on one floor. So my honest first answer is usually "probably two machines, not one", and I would rather say that upfront than let a single unit quietly underperform on the floor it cannot reach.

In practice that means one Vaayu at ₹11,999 for the ground floor's public area, and a second for the first floor if it has a genuine public zone of its own - a second waiting area, a counselling room with an open desk. If a floor is entirely treatment rooms, it gets nothing, whatever level it is on. And if the building genuinely shares one central HVAC duct across both floors, which is worth checking rather than assuming, one Angaan at ₹25,999 on that shared duct can be the better single answer.

Whichever configuration fits, the rules do not change floor to floor. Treatment and procedure rooms stay unscented, everywhere in the building, because patients here are often post-peel, post-laser or post-microneedling with a disrupted skin barrier, and some are being investigated for fragrance allergy. Fragrance elsewhere is an ambience decision, like lighting or seating, with no clinical claim, and the clinician's judgement overrides any plan, on both floors. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

How many scent machines does a two-floor dermatology clinic need?
Usually two, one per floor's public area, rather than one for the whole building. Floors rarely share air the way one open room does, so a machine on the ground floor typically does not reach the first floor in any useful way. The SOSA Vaayu (Rs 11,999) is the default machine per floor; two smaller units is the normal, correct answer here.
Why can't one machine just cover both floors of a clinic?
Because a staircase is a weak, slow air connection compared with an open doorway on the same level, where air genuinely mixes freely. A machine sized for one floor's public area is very unlikely to reliably reach a second floor through a stairwell alone, so each floor needs to be sized on its own unless both floors share a single, accessible central HVAC duct.
What if only the ground floor of my clinic has a real waiting area?
Then one machine is likely the complete answer, not two. If the first floor is entirely treatment and procedure rooms with no independent public zone, it is excluded from the scenting plan by rule, so the ground floor's SOSA Vaayu (Rs 11,999) may be the only machine the whole clinic needs.
Can I use one SOSA Angaan instead of two Vaayu units for a two-floor clinic?
Only if both floors are served by one shared, accessible central air handling duct rather than independent systems. In that specific case, one SOSA Angaan (Rs 25,999), rated to 3,000 cubic metres, about 8,000-10,000 sq ft, connected to that duct can scent both floors more evenly than two standalone units. Most small clinics do not have that shared ducting, so two Vaayu units remains the more common answer.
Do treatment rooms on an upper floor still need to stay unscented?
Yes, without exception. The rule that treatment and procedure rooms stay unscented applies on every floor of the building, because the clinical reasoning - compromised or sensitised skin, possible fragrance allergy investigation - has nothing to do with which level the room is on. The clinician's judgement overrides any scenting plan on every floor.
