Before we get to the numbers, we have to agree on what we're measuring. Almost every Indian attar brand uses the phrase "long-lasting" without ever defining it, which is how a 2-hour cologne and a 10-hour oud end up sharing a label. A real fragrance house — French, Italian, or the few rigorous Indian ones — breaks a wear-life into four measurable phases.
- Top phase — 0 to 30 minutes. The fresh opening. Bright, lifted, sometimes citrusy or aldehydic. This is what you smell in the bottle and on your wrist for the first half-hour. It is not the scent of the attar — it's the introduction.
- Heart phase — 30 minutes to 4 hours. The full character. The accord the perfumer actually built. This is what others smell when they sit across from you in a meeting. For real evaluation, this is where a perfume "is" itself.

Our working definition — "real long-lasting" means the drydown phase persists for at least 6 hours. Anything shorter is a heart-phase fragrance pretending to be a base-anchored one. By that standard, almost no mass-market Indian attar qualifies, and most Western EdPs at any price don't either.
