Founder Diaries · Car Perfumes, Parking & How a Car Is Actually Used
By Sonal Sahani · ISIPCA Versailles 12 min read Updated September 2026
You changed the car, the seats, the parking and your own habits in a single week, and now you are trying to choose a fragrance for the result. That is not a taste question, it is a measurement problem, and it has a decent answer that does not involve anybody telling you what a new car should smell of. You cannot un-change three of the four. What you can do is separate them in time instead of in parts: hold everything steady, vary one thing a week, and keep a record. And there is a fifth item in the question that looks like a variable and is not one at all - the change of propulsion, behind which SOSA publishes precisely nothing.
SOSA car perfume sprays, nine scents, from Rs 449
SOSA car perfume · spray or hanging, same price · nine scents from ₹449 →
Four changes in one week means nothing can be attributed to anything. The fix is not a better recommendation, it is a method: hold the fragrance constant and vary one behaviour a week. A 10ml spray at ₹449 to ₹549 is 100 sprays, which makes every use countable. The change of propulsion is not a variable - SOSA publishes no powertrain claim of any kind, so strike it off before you start.
Quick answers — read this first
How do you tell which of several changes affected your car's interior? Separate them in time, because you cannot separate them in parts. Hold the fragrance constant, change exactly one behaviour a week and write down what you notice. The parking is the easiest to vary - leave the car outside for a week, then back under cover. A 10ml spray at ₹449 to ₹549 is the right instrument because it is 100 sprays, which means what you did is countable rather than remembered.

Does moving from a petrol car to an electric one change the fragrance choice? No. SOSA publishes no petrol, diesel or electric product and no powertrain claim, so that particular change is not a variable in this experiment at all. Cross it off the list. The changes that can be investigated are the ones about use: a car that is now parked under cover, charged at home rather than refuelled weekly, and driven in a pattern you have altered without quite noticing.

Can SOSA advise on leatherette versus fabric interiors? No, and it would be easy to pretend otherwise. SOSA publishes nothing whatsoever about interior materials, so this page makes no claim about leatherette or fabric in either direction. That leaves it as a blank in your experiment rather than a factor with a known sign - which is still useful, because you can design around a blank instead of trusting a guess about it.
The short answer
Short answer: Separate the changes in time rather than in parts. Hold the fragrance constant, vary one behaviour a week and keep notes. A SOSA 10ml spray is Rs 449 to Rs 549 and holds 100 sprays, which makes your own usage countable. The change of propulsion is not a variable - SOSA publishes nothing about powertrain.
The pick: A 10ml SOSA car perfume spray, ₹449 to ₹549 - the only format whose use is a countable event, which is what a month of separating variables needs.
Why: An experiment needs one thing you control and can count. A spray is 100 sprays and each press is a decision; a continuous format runs whether or not you are testing anything.
What the car runs on is not the variable. How it is used is.On demand - 10ml spray ₹449 to ₹549, published at 100 spraysContinuous - 12ml hanging, same price, 4 to 6 weeksVentilate a hot or long-shut cabin before you judge itNever - fragrance instead of finding a smell's source
A car spends most of its life empty. The hours that matter are the ones somebody is sitting in it, and on a typical commute that is one or two out of twenty-four. The useful decision is therefore not which product lasts longest while nobody is there - it is whether you want fragrance you switch on or fragrance that simply runs. A 10ml spray is published at 100 sprays, which is three months at one a day and fifty days at two; a 12ml hanging runs 4 to 6 weeks and its stopper loosens for more or tightens for less. Nothing here depends on what is under the bonnet.
Straight answer
I've moved from a ten-year-old petrol hatchback with fabric seats to a new electric hatchback with leatherette interiors and covered home charging - how should I separate the effects of vehicle age, interior material, parking and changed driving behaviour when choosing a new fragrance?
Separate them in time, because you cannot separate them in parts. Start by sorting your list, since the four items are not the same kind of thing. Parking is a real variable and the easiest to vary - a covered bay against an open one is a week's test either way. Driving behaviour is a real variable, and probably the one you have changed most without noticing: more short trips, fewer weekly refuelling stops, a car that is opened at different times of day. Interior material is a blank: SOSA publishes nothing at all about leatherette or fabric, so this page makes no claim about it in either direction and you should treat it as unknown rather than as a known factor. Vehicle age is also unpublished, and mostly a proxy for the other three anyway. And the fifth item, the one the question is built around - the move from petrol to electric is not a variable here at all, because SOSA publishes no petrol, diesel or electric product and no powertrain difference of any kind. Cross it off and the experiment gets simpler. Then run it. Week one: nothing at all. Learn what the new car is like unassisted, and write down what you notice and when. Week two: one press as you get in, every day, same scent, nothing else changed. A 10ml spray is ₹449 for Jasmine, ₹479 for Lavender and Sandalwood, ₹489 for Icy Mint, ₹499 for Lemon and ₹509 for Oud, Vetiver and Sea Breeze, and it is published at 100 sprays - 3 months and above at one a day, or 50 days at two a day - which is what makes it the right instrument: every use is a countable event and the bottle is your meter. Week three: change exactly one thing, most usefully the parking. Week four: ask a passenger, because you are the one variable in this experiment you cannot observe from the inside. By the end you will know which change actually mattered, which is worth more than any recommendation. The 12ml hanging at the same price runs 4 to 6 weeks continuously with a stopper that adjusts it - a fine product and a poor instrument, because it does not stop when your test does. A portion of every SOSA order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
Four changes, one at a time, one week each. The spray is the instrument because its use is countable.
The method in one line: hold the fragrance constant, vary one behaviour a week, write it down. A 10ml spray at ₹449 to ₹549 is 100 sprays, so every use is countable and the bottle is your meter. Interior material is a published blank and propulsion is not a variable - which leaves parking and habit, and those two you can actually test.
SOSA car perfume sprays from ₹449

Which of your four changes are variables, which is a blank, and which is not there at all

Before running anything, sort the list. Two of your four are genuine variables you can test. One is a published blank. One is a proxy. And the fifth, the one in the headline of the question, is not on the list at all.

01
Sorting the list
Two variables, one blank, one proxy and one thing that is not there
Parking and behaviour are testable: you can change where the car sits and how you use it, one week at a time, and observe the result. Interior material is a blank - SOSA publishes nothing about leatherette or fabric, so it goes in the experiment as unknown rather than as a factor with a direction. Vehicle age is largely a proxy for a decade of carrying, spilling and opening, which is why a new car differs from an old one in ways that are really about use. And the change of propulsion is not a variable at all, because no powertrain claim is published anywhere in the range. A list of four becomes a list of two you can actually work with.
Tip: Crossing an item off honestly is the most useful thing this page can do for the experiment.
02
The method
Vary one thing a week and hold the rest steady
A month is enough. Week one, nothing at all, so you have a baseline that is the car rather than the car plus a purchase. Week two, one press as you get in, the same scent, every day - one change, nothing else touched. Week three, change only the parking: leave the car in the open for the week, or bring it under cover if it has been outside, and keep the spray routine identical. Week four, change only the habit - open a window for the first minute of every drive, or stop doing so. Write two lines a day. The point is not rigour for its own sake; it is that at the end of it you can attribute what you noticed to something specific, which is exactly what four simultaneous changes took away from you.
03
The meter
A spray is countable, and that is the whole reason to start with one
An experiment needs one input you control and can count. A 10ml spray holds 100 sprays, published as 3 months and above at one a day, or 50 days at two a day, and every press is a decision you made at a known moment. That makes the bottle a record of your own behaviour - if it is going down faster than one a day, you are spraying more than you think, and that is information. A 12ml hanging is a different proposition: 4 to 6 weeks of continuous diffusion in refillable glass with a stopper that loosens for stronger or tightens for subtler, at the same price for the same scent. Excellent to live with, awkward to test with, because it keeps running when your week ends.
Tip: Buy the hanging when you have finished finding out. Buy the spray while you are still finding out.
SOSA Mysore Orange Blossom car perfume spray, 10ml and 50ml
The one number that settles most of this
A 10ml spray is 100 sprays. The rest is division.
SOSA publishes the count on the bottle: a 10ml spray is 100 sprays, and the 50ml is 500 sprays and about a year and more. The pages state the working too - three months and above at one spray a day, and fifty days at two a day. That turns a vague question into an arithmetic one. Spray before every journey and somebody making four short trips a day is out of a 10ml in about twenty-five days; the same bottle in the hands of somebody who sprays once each morning lasts the published three months. Neither is wrong - but only one of them is what the person expected when they bought it. Work out your own number before you decide the product is not lasting, because a hundred sprays is a hundred sprays regardless of how the car is powered.
See Mysore Orange Blossom from ₹549 →
Work it out in this order
A four-week separation, one change at a time
  1. Week one: nothing at all. Write two lines a day about what you notice.
  2. Week two: one press as you get in. Same scent daily, nothing else altered.
  3. Week three: change only the parking. Keep the spray routine identical.
  4. Week four: ask a passenger. You cannot observe yourself from the inside.
The SOSA principle
You cannot un-change the car, the seats or the parking. You can change one of them back for a week, and that is enough to attribute what you notice.
And one item on your list can be struck off before you start, because nothing is published behind it in either direction.

Why the spray is the better instrument for this particular month

Hold the scent constant while you run this, which means choosing one you will not want to change in week three. Both formats cost the same for the same scent. Lavender at ₹479 is the softest the pages publish and Jasmine at ₹449 sits at the softer end. Lemon at ₹499, Icy Mint at ₹489 and Sea Breeze at ₹509 are the bright end. Sandalwood at ₹479, Vetiver at ₹509 and Oud at ₹509 are the deep end, Oud the deepest published. Mysore Orange Blossom at ₹549 is spray only. If you would rather vary the scent than the intensity, the Discovery Set runs ₹699 to ₹899 for three sprays, and ₹2,999 for all nine - the combinations are published and fixed, so you pick one rather than assemble it.

The SOSA gift edit
Four ways to approach a month of separating variables, and the flaw in each
The option Who it suits, and where it fails
A week of nothing at all, first The baseline, and the step people skip. You find out what the new car is like on its own before anything is added. It fails only as a destination - it is a week, not a policy.
A 10ml spray, ₹449 to ₹549 The instrument. 100 sprays, every one a countable event at a known moment, and the bottle doubles as a record of what you actually did. It fails if you want the car to be a certain way without any input from you.
A 12ml hanging, the same price 4 to 6 weeks of continuous diffusion with the stopper as the level control. It fails as a test instrument, because it carries on between your weeks and blurs exactly the boundaries you are trying to draw.
A Discovery Set, ₹699 to ₹899 Three sprays from nine published combinations, useful if the thing you want to vary is the scent rather than the routine. It fails for this month's purpose, because changing the scent and the parking in the same week puts you back where you started.
SOSA Lavender car perfume, spray and hanging formats
The format choice, and why price does not decide it
Spray or hanging - the same price, scent for scent
This is the unusual part of the SOSA car range and it makes the decision cleaner than it usually is: the spray and the hanging cost the same for any given scent - ₹449 for Jasmine, ₹479 for Lavender and Sandalwood, ₹489 for Icy Mint, ₹499 for Lemon, ₹509 for Oud, Vetiver and Sea Breeze. So you are not trading money against convenience; you are choosing between fragrance you decide to have and fragrance that is simply there. The spray is 100 sprays in 10ml and you control every one of them. The hanging runs 4 to 6 weeks in refillable glass and asks nothing of you, and its stopper is the strength control - loosen for stronger, tighten for subtler. One further practical difference that decides it for some people: 15ml refills exist for the hanging and there is no spray refill at all.
See SOSA car perfumes from ₹449 →

Two published facts worth building into the plan. The hanging refills and the spray does not - 15ml refills are ₹399 to ₹449 across eight scents in refillable glass, and there is no spray refill, with none at all for Orange Blossom. And the range is alcohol-free, phthalate-free, paraben-free and IFRA-compliant, formulated and tested for 45 degrees C heat and 85 per cent relative humidity, which is a statement about the formulation rather than a performance curve you can plan a month around. The 50ml at ₹1,499 is 500 sprays and about a year and more, which is the size to buy after the month rather than during it.

The premise worth rejecting before anything else
A fragrance does not know what is turning the wheels.
There is no petrol product, no diesel product and no electric product in the SOSA range, and SOSA publishes nothing whatsoever about powertrain - because a perfume in a closed cabin behaves the same way whether that cabin is being pushed along by a battery or an engine. What genuinely differs between two owners is everything else: where the car is parked and for how long, how many separate journeys it makes in a day, how many of those hours anybody is actually inside it, whether the windows are open, and who else is in the car. Those are real variables and they change the answer completely. The published figures speak to them directly: a 10ml spray is 100 sprays, which is three months and more at one a day and fifty days at two; a 12ml hanging runs 4 to 6 weeks continuously with a stopper that loosens for more and tightens for less; the 50ml is 500 sprays and about a year and more. So when two people with identical cars need different answers, it is never because one of them is electric.

One message, one honest recommendation
Tell SOSA how many hours a day somebody is actually sitting in the car, where it is parked and for how long, whether the windows are usually open or shut, and who else drives it - and you will be told which format and how much, including the times the honest answer is the hanging at the same price because you would rather not think about it.

Four things changed in a week, so nothing can be attributed to anything. Change one back for seven days and the attribution returns.

The SOSA gifting range

Two questions settle almost every car fragrance decision, and neither of them is what the car runs on. How many hours a day is somebody actually sitting in it? A 25 km commute is about an hour; a field job can be four. That number decides how much of what you buy is experienced by anybody at all, because the rest of the day is a sealed cabin in a parking bay. Then: do you want fragrance you switch on, or fragrance that simply runs? The 10ml spray holds 100 sprays and does nothing until you press it; the 12ml hanging runs 4 to 6 weeks whether anybody is there or not, and its stopper loosens for stronger or tightens for subtler. They cost the same for the same scent, so price does not decide it - which is unusual, and useful.

The SOSA range, sorted by how much it asks of the person receiving it
Start from what the gift demands, not from what it costs
Product What it is What it is for Price
SOSA car perfume spray - 10ml Fragrance you switch on ₹449 to ₹549 across nine scents. Published at 100 sprays - 3 months and above at one a day, 50 days at two a day. A fine-mist atomizer; one spray covers the cabin from ₹449
SOSA car hanging - 12ml Fragrance that simply runs The same price as the spray, scent for scent. Published at 4 to 6 weeks of continuous diffusion in a refillable glass bottle, and the stopper adjusts it - loosen for stronger, tighten for subtler from ₹449
SOSA car perfume spray - 50ml The long-run size ₹1,499, published at 500 sprays and about a year and more. The honest size when you already know the routine, and the wrong one while you are still working it out ₹1,499
Car perfume combos Two scents, one purchase ₹899 for Jasmine & Lemon or Jasmine & Lavender; ₹949 for Oud + Lemon or Sandalwood & Oud. Spray combo (2 x 10ml) or hanging combo (2 x 12ml) at the same price. Four published pairs from ₹899
Car Perfume Sprays Discovery Set Three to try ₹699 to ₹899 for three sprays, or ₹2,999 for all nine. Nine published combinations, and those nine are the whole range - none is composed to order from ₹699
Hanging refills - 15ml Only the hanging refills ₹399 to ₹449 across eight scents. There is no spray refill, and Orange Blossom has no refill at all - so if refilling matters, that decides the format for you from ₹399
SOSA Safar The powered option ₹3,999, or ₹4,499 for the hotel-inspired sets. A different category from a spray or a hanging, and listed here so you can rule it in or out rather than wonder from ₹3,999

The fact that answers most of these questions is a division sum. A 10ml spray is published at 100 sprays. Somebody who sprays before each of four short daily trips empties it in about twenty-five days; somebody who sprays once a day gets the published three months and more. The 50ml is 500 sprays and about a year and more. The 12ml hanging runs 4 to 6 weeks instead, continuously, and its stopper adjusts the strength - loosen for more, tighten for less. Spray and hanging are the same price scent for scent, so the choice is genuinely about how you want to use the car rather than what you want to spend. Everything is alcohol-free, phthalate-free and IFRA-compliant, formulated for 45 degrees C heat and 85 per cent humidity, made in India. Fragrance adds a scent to a cabin; it does not remove, neutralise, mask or purify an odour and it does not clean the air - so a car that has developed a smell is a question about the car, not about the perfume. Prices above are published retail prices; bulk orders are welcome and custom label or logo on product is available, with quantities settled on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531. SOSA is an Indian fragrance house based in Pune, sending orders across India. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

What the SOSA car pages publish, and what they do not
Everything below is on the live product pages. Anything not on this list is not something a page like this should state.
  • Nine scents, two formats, one price each - Jasmine ₹449; Lavender and Sandalwood ₹479; Icy Mint ₹489; Lemon ₹499; Oud, Vetiver and Sea Breeze ₹509. Each is sold as a spray or a hanging at the same price. Mysore Orange Blossom is ₹549 and is spray only.
  • The published quantities - a 10ml spray is 100 sprays, stated as 3 months and above at one a day and 50 days at two a day. The 50ml is 500 sprays and about a year and more, at ₹1,499. A spray combo is 200 sprays, stated as 100 days at two a day rotating. These are the only usage figures SOSA gives.
  • The hanging - 4 to 6 weeks (28 to 42 days) of continuous diffusion per 12ml bottle, in refillable glass, and the stopper adjusts the strength: loosen for stronger, tighten for subtler.
  • Combos and the Discovery Set - four published pairs at ₹899 and ₹949, as a spray combo (2 x 10ml) or a hanging combo (2 x 12ml) at the same price. The Discovery Set is ₹699 to ₹899 for three sprays and ₹2,999 for all nine. Those nine combinations are the entire set range and none is composed to order.
  • Refills - 15ml hanging refills at ₹399 to ₹449 across eight scents. There is no spray refill and Orange Blossom has no refill.
  • The formulation - alcohol-free, phthalate-free, paraben-free and IFRA-compliant, formulated for 45 degrees C heat and 85 per cent relative humidity, made in India.
  • Not published, and therefore never stated here: any difference between a petrol, diesel or electric car; any cabin-volume, coverage, scent-throw or evaporation figure; any claim about how a scent is perceived over hours; any seasonal performance claim; any shelf life or concentration; any health effect in either direction; any bulk rate, minimum quantity, price break or lead time. A note from Sonal

We get asked which car perfume is right for an electric car, and I have never been able to give the answer the question wants. There isn't one. A fragrance sits in a closed box of air with a person in it, and that box does not behave differently because the thing moving it is a battery. If anyone tells you otherwise they are selling you a category, not a product.

What I can tell you is what actually changes between two owners, because it is not subtle. One car is occupied ninety minutes a day and another is occupied six. One sits in a basement and one bakes outdoors for nine hours. One has the windows down for the first ten minutes of every drive and one never opens them at all. One is driven by three people who want three different things from it. Those differences are enormous, and none of them is on the spec sheet of the car.

So the numbers I would want you to hold on to are the ones about use rather than about chemistry. A 10ml spray is a hundred sprays. That is three months if you spray once a day and about fifty days if you spray twice, and if you spray before every one of four short errands it is gone in under a month. The hanging runs four to six weeks and you can loosen or tighten the stopper to change it. Those two facts settle more of these questions than anything I could tell you about the car.

And the part I will not pretend about: a perfume cannot fix a smell. It adds a scent, it does not remove one. If a car has started smelling of something it did not smell of before, that is a question about the car - the air-conditioning, the mats, something in the boot, water that got in during the monsoon - and adding fragrance on top of it is the one thing I would ask you not to do.

Frequently asked questions

How do I tell which change affected my car's interior?
Separate them in time. Hold the fragrance and the routine constant, change exactly one thing a week - the parking is the easiest - and write two lines a day. After a month you can attribute what you noticed to a specific change. It is slower than an opinion and it is the only method that actually answers the question you asked.
Does moving from petrol to electric change which car perfume suits the car?
No. SOSA publishes no petrol, diesel or electric product and no powertrain claim. A fragrance sits in a closed volume of air with a person in it, and that is the same situation either way. What has genuinely changed with a new car is parking, charging at home instead of refuelling weekly, and a driving pattern you may have altered without noticing. Those are the testable items.
Is leatherette different from fabric for car fragrance?
SOSA publishes nothing about interior materials, so no claim is made here in either direction. Treat it as a blank in your experiment rather than a factor with a known direction. That is genuinely more useful than a guess, because you can design a month around an unknown but not around a wrong assumption.
Why use a spray rather than a hanging while I am working this out?
Because a spray is countable. A 10ml is 100 sprays, published as 3 months and above at one a day or 50 days at two a day, and each press happens at a moment you chose, so the bottle becomes a record of what you actually did. A 12ml hanging runs 4 to 6 weeks continuously and does not pause between your test weeks, which blurs the boundaries you are drawing.
Can I put together my own set of three sprays to test with?
No. The Discovery Set publishes nine fixed combinations - eight trios from Rs 699 to Rs 899, plus all nine sprays at Rs 2,999 - and you pick from that published list rather than assembling one. For a month of separating variables you generally want one scent held constant anyway, with the routine as the thing that changes.

What is not published, and is therefore not stated here: any difference in fragrance behaviour between petrol, diesel and electric vehicles - SOSA makes no powertrain-specific product and no powertrain claim; any cabin-volume, coverage, scent-throw, projection or evaporation figure; any claim about how a scent is perceived over hours or about sensory adaptation; any seasonal performance claim beyond the stated formulation for heat and humidity; any shelf life, expiry or concentration; and any bulk rate, minimum quantity, price break or lead time. Limits of this guide: fragrance adds a scent to a cabin. It does not remove, neutralise, mask or purify an odour, it does not clean the air, and a car that has developed a new smell is a question about the vehicle rather than about perfume. No health claim is made anywhere on this page, in either direction - nothing here states or implies that any fragrance causes or prevents a headache, nausea, motion sickness or any other effect, and nothing is said about safety in pregnancy or for children or the elderly, because SOSA publishes no information this page can rely on. No third-party brand is named and no competitor or category of competing product is characterised. No rating, review count, strength percentage or customer name from any product page is cited. Bulk orders are welcome and custom label or logo on product is available; that is the only branding option, and quantities are settled on WhatsApp. SOSA Home & Body is an Indian fragrance house based in Pune, Maharashtra, sending orders across India, with no shop, showroom, stockist, counter or warehouse in any other city. Prices and availability are subject to change - see the live product pages.
