The two terms get used almost interchangeably, and the confusion is understandable - both are quiet, both are discreet, both avoid looking like a bank. But a single-family office managing one family's affairs and a multi-family office serving several unrelated families under one roof are structurally different businesses, and that structural difference, not the word "family", is what should decide your scenting plan.
Quick answers — read this first
Does a single-family office need a different fragrance from a multi-family office? No. The fragrance profile is identical in both - dry, woody, mineral and restrained, cedar and dry vetiver and soft woods and clean tea, nothing sweet or floral. What differs is scale and visitor flow, not the scent family. A single-family office is almost always one SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999); a multi-family office spanning a larger floor with several families' teams is more often a SOSA Angaan (₹25,999) on the building's HVAC.

Is a multi-family office scented more like a wealth management firm than a family office? In terms of hardware, often yes. A multi-family office typically has more headcount, more meeting rooms, and a steadier flow of trustees, advisors and sometimes prospective client families, which puts it closer in scale to a small advisory firm than to a single household's own office. The fragrance brief does not change, but the plan usually needs zoning across a real floor rather than one machine covering everything, which is where the SOSA Angaan (₹25,999) earns its place.

Can one SOSA Vaayu cover a single-family office on its own? In most cases, yes. A single-family office is usually two to six rooms totalling well under 3,000 sq ft, and one SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999), rated to 1000m³, covers that from a single point at the entrance or the room the family passes through most. It is only when the office genuinely spans a larger floor, or several families share one building's HVAC, that a second machine or a step up to the Angaan is the honest recommendation.
The short answer
Short answer: not in the fragrance, which stays dry, woody and restrained either way - but yes in scale and visitor flow. A single-family office is almost always one SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999, up to 2,000-3,000 sq ft). A multi-family office with several families' teams and a steady flow of trustees and advisors is closer to a small firm, and a larger floor is one SOSA Angaan (₹25,999) on the HVAC.
The pick: one SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) for a single-family office of most sizes, stepping up to the SOSA Angaan (₹25,999) once you are genuinely managing a multi-family floor.
Next step: tell us whether you are one family or several under one roof and we will size the plan accordingly, ask for an office scenting plan.
Single-family vs multi-family office - what actually changesThe fragrance profile: identical in both. Dry, woody, restrainedThe headcount: a handful of people vs several teamsThe visitor flow: rare and known vs regular and variedThe building: often a residence vs often a leased floorThe hardware: one Vaayu vs an Angaan on the HVAC
It is tempting to assume a multi-family office is simply a bigger version of a single-family one, and mostly that is true - except for the two things that actually decide the plan: how many unrelated people pass through, and how much air there is to cover.
The shortlist for either structure - tap either machine
Straight answer
What actually changes between a single-family office and a multi-family office?
Start with what does not change: the fragrance. Whether you manage one family's affairs or several, the profile is the same - dry, woody and mineral, cedar, dry vetiver, soft leather-adjacent woods, a faint paper or smoke note, clean tea, a whisper of citrus, and nothing sweet or floral anywhere near it. Discretion matters in both, and the rule that governs the whole cluster applies to both without exception: if a visitor comments on the fragrance, it is too strong. What changes is everything downstream of the fragrance choice. Headcount and visitor flow. A single-family office is often a handful of people who already know each other, visited occasionally by the family itself and by a small, familiar circle of advisors. A multi-family office is closer in shape to a small professional firm - several families' teams, more regular meetings with trustees, lawyers and prospective client families, and sometimes a genuine reception function. Building and floor plan. A single-family office is frequently a converted residence or a handful of rooms inside a larger building, without a central air-handling system built for scenting. A multi-family office is more often a leased commercial floor with proper HVAC, closer in physical shape to the wealth management offices this whole cluster is written for. The honest hardware consequence. Because of those two differences, a single-family office is usually one SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) covering the whole space from one point - freestanding, waterless, under 38dB, rated to 1000m³, about 2,000-3,000 sq ft, which comfortably covers most SFOs in full. A multi-family office that genuinely spans a larger floor, or where several families' teams share one central air-handling system, is where a SOSA Angaan (₹25,999) on the HVAC becomes the sensible answer instead of two or three Vaayus scattered across rooms. What we would not do is size a plan by the word on the letterhead. A single-family office that happens to occupy a genuinely large, high-ceilinged floor may still need the Angaan; a multi-family office run from a modest suite may be perfectly well served by one Vaayu. Measure the rooms, not the category. And the line that holds everywhere in this cluster holds here too: this is a matter of environment and brand craft, with no bearing on any principal's or client's trust, judgement or decisions. Ask for an office scenting plan and tell us honestly which structure you are - we will size it from there, not from the label.
The fragrance does not change between a single-family and a multi-family office. The headcount, the visitor flow and the building do - and that decides whether you need one Vaayu or an Angaan on the HVAC.
Most single-family offices are one SOSA Vaayu for the whole space - waterless, freestanding, rated to 1000m³ (about 2,000-3,000 sq ft), under 38dB, with a key-lock and adjustable intensity.

Where the two genuinely diverge

Three questions decide whether you are, for scenting purposes, effectively a single-family office or effectively a small firm.

1
How many people pass through in an ordinary week?
A known handful, or a genuine stream of visitors
A single-family office is usually visited by the same small circle - the family, a few trustees, an accountant, a lawyer - people who know the rooms and are not forming a first impression. A multi-family office adds several unrelated families' own teams, plus their advisors, plus sometimes a prospective family being shown around. That second pattern behaves like a small professional firm for scenting purposes, however family-oriented the business itself is, because the room is doing introduction work that a true single-family office rarely needs to do.
Tip: if a stranger walks through your rooms most weeks, plan the space like a small firm, not a household.
SOSA Vaayu
A single Vaayu at the entrance is usually enough for the visitor pattern of a genuine single-family office.

2
Is there one central air-handling system, or several rooms on their own units?
This decides Vaayu-per-zone versus one Angaan on the HVAC
A converted residence typically runs on individual split air-conditioning units, room by room, with no central plant to mount a diffuser onto. A leased multi-family office floor more often has one central HVAC system serving the whole space. That single fact, more than headcount, decides the hardware: no central plant means freestanding machines placed by zone; one central system means a single Angaan carrying scent through ducting that already exists, which is both simpler and less visible than several standalone units.
SOSA Angaan
The Angaan only makes sense where there is a central system to connect to - check this before assuming it is the bigger, better answer.
See SOSA Angaan →
3
Is the floor genuinely larger than about 3,000 sq ft?
Measure the rooms, not the label on the letterhead
A single-family office that happens to occupy a large, high-ceilinged floor can outgrow one Vaayu regardless of headcount, and a modest multi-family suite can be comfortably covered by one. Size by the actual floor area and ceiling height you have, not by which of the two terms describes your business. One Vaayu covers up to 1000m³, roughly 2,000-3,000 sq ft depending on ceiling height; beyond that, whichever kind of family office you are, the Angaan or a second Vaayu is the honest next step.
Tip: the floor plan decides the machine count. The word 'family' decides nothing on its own.
SOSA Vaayu
Start with one Vaayu and measure the space it actually covers before assuming you need more.

The SOSA principle
A multi-family office is not a bigger single-family office. It is a different visitor pattern wearing a similar name, and the plan should follow the pattern.
Measure headcount, visitor flow and HVAC before you measure square footage - the square footage comes last.
SOSA Angaan
When the multi-family floor is genuinely larger: SOSA Angaan connects to the building's HVAC and scents up to 3,000m³ - about 8,000-10,000 sq ft - on airflow already in place, ₹25,999.

The plan, side by side

Put side by side, the two structures usually land in different rows of the same table, though either can land in either row depending on the actual floor.

If your office is one family working from a residence or a converted apartment, the placement questions are different again - see scenting a family office run out of a residence or converted apartment. And the underlying brief, which is identical whichever structure you are, is set out in full in what a family office should smell like.

Sized to your structure, not your letterhead
One SOSA Vaayu ₹11,999 for most single-family offices; one SOSA Angaan ₹25,999 for a multi-family floor on central HVAC. Tell us which you are and how many rooms you actually have.

The fragrance does not know whether you manage one family or five. The floor plan and the visitor flow do, and that is what should decide the plan.

The SOSA specification for both

Two machines, chosen by structure and floor, not by title. The Vaayu is freestanding and covers most single-family offices, and any multi-family office without central HVAC, zone by zone. The Angaan takes over on a genuine multi-family floor with one central air-handling system. Both waterless, both made in India. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

If you take one thing from this page: measure the rooms and the HVAC before you decide anything, because the two labels correlate with the right answer more often than they determine it. One honest note - fragrance works alongside ventilation and cleaning and never instead of them, and it cannot cover damp, fresh paint or a stale air path. And plainly: this is environment and brand craft, in either structure, with no bearing on what a principal or a visiting family decides. Ask for an office scenting plan and we will size it against your actual floor.

A note from Sonal

People often ask me this expecting a rule about money - as though a multi-family office, managing more wealth across more households, deserves a bigger machine as a matter of course. It almost never works that way. I have sized a single-family office managing a very large fortune with one Vaayu in a two-room suite, and sized a modest multi-family practice with an Angaan because it happened to occupy a full leased floor. The number that matters is square footage and ceiling height, not the number of families on the letterhead.

So my honest advice is to work it out backwards from the building. If you are a handful of people in rooms that were not built to be an office, with a small circle of familiar visitors, you are very likely one Vaayu - freestanding, 1000m³, run low and key-locked. If you are several families' teams on one floor with a central air-handling system and a steadier flow of trustees and advisors, an Angaan on that HVAC is usually the tidier and less visible answer. If you are several families without central HVAC, it is a Vaayu per zone, not a single machine trying to do a job its ducting cannot support.

And whichever you are, the honesty holds without exception. This is a matter of environment and brand craft - the room being as considered as the filing, the art, the coffee - and it has no bearing on any principal's trust, any family's judgement, or the size of any mandate. I would say the same thing to a single-family office managing one fortune as to a multi-family practice managing twenty. Everything is made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

Does a single-family office need a different fragrance from a multi-family office?
No. The fragrance profile is identical - dry, woody, mineral and restrained, cedar, dry vetiver, soft leather-adjacent woods, clean tea, nothing sweet or floral. What changes between the two is scale, visitor flow and the building's HVAC, not the scent family.
Is a multi-family office scented more like a small firm than a household?
Often, yes, because it tends to have more headcount, more meeting rooms and a steadier flow of trustees, advisors and sometimes prospective families. That puts it closer in shape to a small advisory firm than a single household's rooms, which is usually why it earns the step up to a SOSA Angaan on the building's HVAC rather than staying on one Vaayu.
Can one SOSA Vaayu cover a single-family office on its own?
In most cases, yes. A single-family office is typically two to six rooms well under 3,000 sq ft, and one SOSA Vaayu, rated to 1000 cubic metres, covers that from a single point at the entrance. Only a genuinely larger or higher-ceilinged floor changes that answer.
How do you decide between a Vaayu per zone and one Angaan for a multi-family office?
By whether there is one central air-handling system. A multi-family office on individual split units, room by room, is better served by a Vaayu per zone, because there is no central ducting for an Angaan to connect to. A multi-family office on one central HVAC system is better served by a single Angaan carrying scent through existing airflow.
Should the size of the machine reflect how much wealth the office manages?
No, and we would not size it that way. The machine is sized to floor area, ceiling height and the building's HVAC, not to assets under management or the number of families served. A single-family office managing significant wealth in a small suite may need only one Vaayu; a modest multi-family practice on a large leased floor may need an Angaan. Measure the rooms.
