Founder Diaries · Home Fragrance
By Sonal Sahani · ISIPCA Versailles 6 min read Updated August 2026
A home that smells exactly the same in every room is a home that has decided nothing. The rooms you live in do different jobs — you cook in one, sleep in another, welcome people in a third — and the air should quietly agree. That is the whole idea of a fragrance wardrobe: not one bottle repeated everywhere, but a handful cast room by room.
Quick answers
Should each room smell different? Yes — cast the scent to the activity. Bright and clean where you cook and work; warm and soft where you rest and host. A home that is one flat note everywhere feels less considered, not more.

How do I actually do it? One Sukoon (₹1,799) per room, each running a different Hotel Collection fragrance at ₹299 — keeping neighbouring rooms in the same family so nothing clashes at the doorway.
The short answer
Short answer: match each room to what happens in it — fresh/citrus for kitchen, dining and workspace; warm/floral-woody for living room and hosting; soft/calm for the bedroom. Give each its own device and scent; keep connected rooms in one broad family.
The pick: a Sukoon (₹1,799) in each main room, plus two or three Hotel Collection scents (₹299) to cast them.
Shop: the full range at home & hotel scenting, refills from ₹999.

Cast the scent to what the room does

The trick to choosing a room's fragrance is to stop thinking about which scent you like most and start thinking about what the room is for. A kitchen and dining area has to deal with cooking smells and wants air that reads clean and appetite-friendly. A living room is where you sit with people, so it wants something warm and welcoming that fills the space without shouting. A bedroom is the one place you want to slow your own pulse, so it wants soft and quiet. Same house, three different jobs — and three different notes.

1
Where you cook, eat & work
Keep it fresh, clean and bright
SOSA Hotel Collection fragrances for the kitchen and workspace Hotel Collection scent₹299

The kitchen-dining zone and the desk both benefit from air that feels laundered rather than perfumed. The Westin-inspired white-tea style, the 1 Hotels-inspired green-citrus and the Four Seasons-inspired bright citrus all lift a space without competing with food or clouding your concentration. These are the scents that make a room feel aired.

Founder tip: clear the cooking odour with airflow first — fragrance crowns clean air, it doesn't cover last night's fry.
2
Where you host & gather
Warm, welcoming, a little plush

The living room is the room that greets people, so it can carry more warmth and character. The Ritz-Carlton-inspired plush floral-woody and the W Hotels-inspired bolder signature both fill a seating area beautifully and read as "someone thought about this". This is the room to spend your most characterful scent on — it does the most social work.

Founder tip: switch it on 30–45 minutes before guests arrive so the room is scented, not scenting, when they walk in.
3
Where you rest
Soft, calm and quiet

The bedroom is not the place for your loudest fragrance. A soft oriental like the Shangri-La-inspired or the classic, restrained St. Regis-inspired settles a room without keeping you awake. Run it on a short session while you wind down and let it fade as you sleep — you want the memory of scent, not a cloud of it.

Founder tip: a 30-minute session before bed is plenty; the scent lingers long after the mist stops.

One device per room does the real work

Here is the part people resist and then thank me for: to have genuinely different scents in two rooms at the same time, you need a diffuser in each. One machine cannot run two fragrances, and swapping a single diffuser between rooms means washing the tank and waiting for the old scent to clear each time. A Sukoon in the living room and another in the bedroom is the natural starting point; add a small Boond for a study or nook. The fragrances are only ₹299 each, so the wardrobe grows cheaply once the devices are in place.

A home that smells the same everywhere has told you nothing. Cast it room by room and the house starts to feel like it was designed.

One honest caveat. Different does not mean disconnected. If your rooms open into each other — an open-plan kitchen-living, or a bedroom whose door stays ajar — keep those scents in the same broad family so they meet gently at the doorway instead of colliding. Save the bigger contrast for rooms separated by a door or a storey. That is a whole subject on its own, and worth getting right before you buy five bottles you love individually but not together.

Frequently asked questions

Should different rooms have different fragrances?
Yes, within reason. A home that smells identical in every room feels flat; a home cast room by room feels considered. Match each room to what happens there — bright and clean where you cook, eat and work; warmer and softer where you rest and host. The simplest way is one Sukoon per room, each running a different Hotel Collection fragrance at ₹299. Keep connected rooms in the same broad family so the scents blend at the doorway.
How do I choose a fragrance for each room?
Cast by activity. Living rooms and hosting spaces suit warm, welcoming scents like the Ritz-Carlton- or W Hotels-inspired styles. Bedrooms suit soft, calming scents like the Shangri-La- or St. Regis-inspired. Kitchens, dining and workspaces suit fresh, citrus styles like the Westin-, 1 Hotels- or Four Seasons-inspired. Audition two at ₹299 in the room before you settle.
Do I need a separate diffuser for every room?
For genuinely different scents at the same time, yes — one machine cannot run two fragrances. A Sukoon per room (₹1,799) is the usual setup; a small Boond (₹799) works for a study or nook. You can move one diffuser around, but you have to wash the tank and let the old scent clear before changing fragrance, so most people prefer one device per room they use.
Won't different fragrances in different rooms clash?
Only if you pick scents from opposite ends of the wardrobe for rooms that open into each other. Keep neighbouring, connected rooms in the same broad family — say, all on the fresh-woody side — and let the contrast be gentle. Save the bigger jump for rooms separated by a door or a floor.
How long should I run the diffuser in each room?
Run a Sukoon in sessions of roughly thirty to sixty minutes rather than all day. The scent lingers after it switches off, you avoid nose-fatigue, and you keep the mild added humidity of an ultrasonic diffuser in check. In a humid coastal home running scent for hours, a waterless system like Vaayu is the better long-run choice.
