Three questions, in this order, and the answer falls out
Almost every host asks the budget question first, and it is the least useful of the three because it narrows within a format rather than choosing between them. Five hundred rupees per head can buy a hanging car perfume, a candle plus a refill, or an attar with a small box, and knowing the number tells you nothing about which of those is right. The two questions that actually decide are guest count and familiarity, and they should be asked in that order. Question one is how many. This matters because quantity removes personalisation as a strategy, and it does so at a threshold. Below roughly fifteen or twenty guests you can still think about individuals: you can buy three different things, you can remember who drives and who does not, you can match a scent to a person. Above that number you cannot, and pretending otherwise produces a worse result than accepting it. Once personalisation is unavailable, the gift has to succeed on what it is rather than on how well it was matched, and the whole shortlist changes. Anything whose appeal depends on being right for a particular person is out. What remains is things that are broadly useful, unsaturated and low-demand. Count also decides the shape of the decision. Above about fifty, a single uniform gift is usually the correct answer for the main list, with a small top tier handled separately - not as a budget compromise but because premium formats make more assumptions and assumptions are dangerous at scale. Question two is how well you know them, and this is the question nobody asks explicitly even though it determines the format. Every fragrance format sits somewhere on a scale of how much it assumes about the recipient. Car fragrance assumes almost nothing, because it is addressed to a vehicle rather than a body: it cannot misjudge somebody's skin, cannot read as a comment on how they smell, cannot be wrong about a taste you never knew. A home candle assumes a little more - that they light candles, and that the register works in their living room. An attar assumes more, because it goes on skin. An eau de parfum assumes the most of anything, which is why it is a wonderful gift for one friend whose taste you know and a poor one for forty acquaintances. Match the format's assumption level to your actual knowledge of the list. A Diwali guest list is normally a mixture - twenty-year friends, people you see twice a year, spouses you have met once - and the correct reading of a mixed list is the lowest common denominator, not the average. Question three is budget, and now it is genuinely useful because it operates inside a chosen format. Here is the whole ladder with what each rung actually buys. Two hundred and ninety-nine rupees is the Hotel Collection at 15ml, and it is the cheapest thing SOSA makes - nothing exists below it, which is worth saying plainly to anybody searching for a sub-two-hundred-rupee return gift. It is water-based and for ultrasonic machines only, at three to six drops per tank, so it is a refill rather than a standalone gift unless the recipient already owns a machine. Three hundred and seventy-nine rupees buys either a small coconut-soy candle - lead-free eco wick, phthalate-free, hand-poured in Pune, fifteen to eighteen hours, in Misty Mornings, Bookshop, Evening Walks or Cozy Corner - or an alcohol-free attar, Adaa at three hundred and seventy-nine, Ameeri at three hundred and eighty-five, Mastani at three hundred and eighty-nine, Nawaab at three hundred and ninety-nine. Three hundred and ninety-nine to four hundred and forty-nine is a 15ml car refill. Four hundred and forty-nine to five hundred and nine is the hanging car perfume range: Jasmine four hundred and forty-nine, Lavender and Sandalwood four hundred and seventy-nine, Icy Mint four hundred and eighty-nine, Lemon four hundred and ninety-nine, Vetiver, Sea Breeze and Oud five hundred and nine. Four hundred and fifty-nine to five hundred and forty-nine covers the solid perfumes, 15g and alcohol-free with six to eight hours of wear. Five hundred and forty-nine is the Mysore orange blossom car perfume spray, and six hundred and ninety-nine the discovery set of three sprays. Five hundred and ninety-nine starts the Inspired By eau de parfum range - Tabac Noir in tobacco and vanilla, Samundar aquatic marine, Bahaar English pear and freesia, Zaffran saffron and sweet amber, Chashni sweet fruity gourmand, Khayaal sparkling bergamot and neroli. Seven hundred and forty-nine to eight hundred and forty-nine is the reed diffuser tier - Morning Freshness, Garden Bloom, Evening Calm, Mountain Breeze, Fresh Brew - no flame, no socket, no switch, no water, six to ten weeks on 50ml, with reed count as the volume control: four or five in a compact Indian flat, eight is often too much. Eight hundred and ninety-nine to nine hundred and forty-nine is a two-bottle car combo. One thousand and fifty-five is the Attar Trio, which is the first tier where a box reads as a considered set rather than as padding. One thousand two hundred and forty-nine starts the 130ml reed diffusers. One thousand eight hundred and ninety-nine is the Sukoon, a 500ml ultrasonic with a timer, and eight hundred and ninety-nine the Boond, a 300ml mini USB unit - and no device should ever be given without something to run in it. Three thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine is the SOSA Safar, which is a waterless nebulising perfume diffuser for a car rather than a home, running undiluted oil with no water at all; hotel-inspired sets are four thousand four hundred and ninety-nine and refills one thousand and forty-nine for 100gm. Eleven thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine is the Vaayu, a waterless nebuliser for spaces up to around a thousand cubic metres with app and timer control, which belongs in a commercial or very large space rather than a return gift list. Four things to carry away. The three systems are not interchangeable: reed oil goes up rattan by capillary action, ultrasonic machines take the water-based Hotel Collection, the waterless nebuliser runs undiluted oil - reed oil must never go into a machine. SOSA is independent and not affiliated with, endorsed by or associated with any hotel brand; those registers are SOSA's own interpretations. Fragrance is additive rather than subtractive, so damp, a weak bathroom extract or a greasy chimney filter must be fixed and ventilated before anything is scented. And there is no published bulk rate, minimum quantity or lead time, because the right number depends on quantity, mix and date - send the guest count, the per-head budget and the date on WhatsApp and it is quoted in writing.
The whole range, by tier
The ladder in full, from the floor of the range to the top. Two hundred and ninety-nine rupees is the cheapest thing SOSA makes and nothing exists below it. The wide-hit-rate middle sits between three hundred and seventy-nine and five hundred and forty-nine. Seven hundred and forty-nine upward is top-tier territory, normally for a smaller group rather than a whole list.

Return gifts fail in a way everybody has experienced from both sides. You spend real money across fifty guests, and a fortnight later most of it is in a drawer or a kitchen cupboard. The test I use is not what it cost per head - it is whether it will be finished. A box of mithai is finished in four days and forgotten. A decorative object is never finished at all.
Fragrance sits in a useful middle. It gets used up over weeks or months, it needs no shelf space, and it works for a guest list you only half know - which is the real condition of a Diwali party, where you know twenty people well and forty barely at all. Car fragrance in particular has the widest hit rate we see, because almost every adult guest drives and almost nobody has thought about what their car smells like.
One honest note about bulk. We do not publish a bulk rate, a minimum order or a lead time on a blog page, because those depend on the quantity, the mix and the date, and a number written in an article is a number that will be wrong by the time somebody reads it. Message us on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 with your guest count, per-head budget and date and we will put a written quote against it - including when the honest answer is that a price point is not worth doing. A portion of every order supports girl-child education.
