Yes - and the warmth never comes from the citrus itself. It comes from what sits underneath: spice, soft woods and a rounded musk. Sharpness is what happens when there is nothing there.
Quick answers — read this first
Why is citrus usually sharp? Because citrus materials are high, bright and thin on their own. Sharpness is brightness with no body under it.
What makes it warm? Aromatic spice like green cardamom, soft woods like sandalwood, and a rounded musk. Each adds body without adding sugar.
Which one?Adaa for citrus with warmth from cardamom; Ameeri if you want genuine warmth with a citrus-adjacent freshness.
The short answer
Clean is an effect, not a family. It comes from three things together: a bright citrus-green top, no sugar anywhere, and a clean white musk base that reads as skin.
The non-negotiable. No sugar. Sweetness is the single thing that stops a fragrance reading as clean, and it is in most "fresh" bottles. Every SOSA attar is alcohol-free and DPG-free.
SOSA in one line. Alcohol-free, DPG-free, IFRA-compliant attars on a jojoba and Mysore sandalwood base, 6-8 hours on skin, 3ml / 6ml / 12ml, ₹379-₹1,199, hand-blended in Pune.
Start here. For clean, Adaa 3ml at ₹379 - bergamot, green cardamom, neroli, jasmine sambac and white musk. It is the only genuinely clean composition I make.
Illustrative only. Clean is an effect rather than a fragrance family: a bright citrus-green opening gives the first impression, and a clean white musk base is what still reads as clean at hour four.
So can citrus smell warm and sophisticated rather than sharp?
Yes, and the warmth is always underneath rather than in the citrus. Citrus materials are high, bright and thin by nature - on their own they read as sharp because there is nothing supporting them. Three things add warmth without sugar: aromatic spice, particularly green cardamom, which is dry and warm at once; soft woods, especially real sandalwood, which is creamy without being sweet; and a rounded musk base. Adaa uses the first and third; Ameeri is what real sandalwood warmth sounds like when it leads.
Short version: sharpness is brightness with nothing under it. Warmth is what you put underneath.
Want the short path?Ameeri — Taif rose over real Indian sandalwood, warm without a gram of sugar.
The instinct is to add sweetness for warmth, which is exactly what ruins a fresh fragrance in Indian weather. These three add warmth without it.
What "clean" actually means
Clean is not a fragrance family - it is an effect, produced by a specific combination: bright citrus and green materials on top, no sugar anywhere, and a clean white musk base that reads as skin rather than as perfume. Remove any one of those three and the effect collapses.
1
Criterion one
Green cardamom: dry warmth
The most useful material for this problem. Cardamom is aromatic and warm at the same time - it adds body and a spiced roundness directly under the citrus without adding a gram of sugar. It is why Adaa reads as rounded rather than edged, and it is the material I would reach for first.
2
Criterion two
Real sandalwood: creamy warmth
Sandalwood is creamy, soft and milky-woody without being sweet, which makes it the ideal warm base for a fresh composition. Ameeri is built on real Indian sandalwood under Taif rose - it is warm in a way no citrus can be on its own, and still never sugary.
The quietest of the three. A transparent musk that leans slightly warm rather than cool gives the whole composition a soft floor to stand on, which removes the thin, edgy quality that pure citrus has. It works invisibly and it is the difference between a fragrance that is bright and one that is rounded.
4
Criterion four
What not to use: sugar
The obvious shortcut and the wrong one, especially in India. Vanilla or sweet amber will warm a citrus composition at a counter and turn it syrupy by two in the afternoon in Indian heat. Warmth from material behaves; warmth from sugar does not.

Where SOSA sits - and where another attar might suit you better
Cardamom in Adaa and sandalwood in Ameeri are the same idea at two different volumes - warmth from material rather than from sugar.
The honest position
Warmth comes from underneath, and never from sugar.
Where I think we earn a place on your shortlist: green cardamom warming Adaa and real Indian sandalwood warming Ameeri, with no sweetness in either. Where another house might suit you better: if you want a sweet-warm citrus and live somewhere cool, that combination is lovely and I do not make it.
"Clean means weak." It does not. Clean is about the materials - no sugar, clean musk, bright top - not about strength. A clean fragrance can last eight hours and still read as skin.
✕
"All fresh fragrances smell the same." Most of the cheap ones do, because they lean on the same handful of inexpensive fresh materials. The difference is what sits underneath - real cardamom and neroli, or nothing.
✕
"Clean is boring." Only when it is thin. A clean composition with real material is quietly interesting all day - reviews here are illustrative, not a guarantee.
Look for cardamom or sandalwood on the listing rather than vanilla. Adaa and Ameeri are my two versions of warmth without sugar.
The SOSA attar range
All four are alcohol-free and DPG-free in 3ml, 6ml and 12ml. Adaa is warmed by cardamom; Ameeri by real Indian sandalwood.
"I just want to smell clean" is the single most common thing anyone says to me, and it is a harder brief than it sounds - because clean is not a fragrance family. It is an effect, and it takes three things at once: a bright citrus-green opening, a clean white musk base that reads as skin rather than as perfume, and no sugar anywhere.
That third condition is why so many bottles sold as fresh do not stay clean. Sweetness is inexpensive and it tests well at a counter, so it finds its way into almost everything - and by hour three you are wearing something that announces itself as perfume rather than as a person who is well-groomed.
Adaa is the only genuinely clean thing I make, and I would rather say that plainly than stretch the word across my whole range. I do not make an aquatic and I do not make a standalone white musk. If those are what you want, buy them from someone who does - and if a clean citrus-green-musk is what you are after, mine is worth your ₹379.
Frequently asked questions
Which SOSA attar smells cleanest?
Adaa - bergamot, green cardamom, neroli, jasmine sambac and white musk. It is the only genuinely clean composition in the range; Ameeri is warm, Mastani is rich and Nawaab is deep, and I would not sell any of them as fresh. From ₹379.
Why do so many fresh perfumes smell the same?
Because the inexpensive route to freshness uses a small set of the same synthetic materials, with very little underneath them. The difference between one clean fragrance and another shows up at hour two, not at the counter - so test on skin and wait.
Is a clean attar suitable for the office?
It is the best thing for an office. Adaa sits close to the skin rather than dispersing across a shared, air-conditioned room, and at one dab it reads as well-groomed rather than as perfumed. It was written for exactly those hours.
Does "clean" mean the fragrance is weak?
No. Clean is a property of the materials - no sugar, a clean musk base, a bright top - not of the strength. SOSA attars wear 6-8 hours on skin, and the clean effect lasts as long as the scent does because the musk base is what creates it.
How much should I apply for a clean effect?
One dab at the base of the throat, on dry skin. Clean is a close-range impression by definition - anything that fills a room is reading as perfume rather than as grooming, and over-applying is the most common way people lose the effect.
