You have a hall, a headcount and a line item called giveaways, and someone has suggested fragrance. It is a better idea than most of what gets suggested - but it is not a free win, and the two places it goes wrong are places nobody warns you about until they happen in front of three hundred people. So here is the verdict written both ways: where a fragrance giveaway genuinely beats the notebook and the steel bottle, where it genuinely does not, and how to design the failure modes out. Real picks from ₹379 a head, with the arithmetic done.
Quick answers — read this first
Are fragrance products good corporate event giveaways? For most events, yes - fragrance passes the one test that matters, which is whether the thing gets used after the event instead of abandoned in the hotel room. An alcohol-free attar at Rs 379 to Rs 399, a 15g solid perfume from Rs 459, a car perfume from Rs 449 or a small candle from Rs 379 all enter someone's ordinary week, they need no sizing, they carry home in hand luggage, and they cost less per head than the average conference tote. The honest caveats are two: never turn the hall itself into a scent-testing room, and never bet a personal skin fragrance on three hundred strangers' taste.
What are the downsides of fragrance as a corporate giveaway? Two real ones and two practical ones. First, scent sensitivity: in any audience of a few hundred there are people who get headaches or breathing trouble around strong fragrance, and if attendees open and apply their gifts in a packed hall you have created exactly the situation those people dread. Give it sealed, to take home. Second, taste risk: a personal fragrance chosen by a committee for strangers is a guess, which is why sets and space fragrance are the safer routes. Practically, candles are heavy and breakable for fly-in guests, and heat in a summer venue is unkind to anything left in a car boot.
Which fragrance products work best as event giveaways? The small, sealed, unisex-capable ones. Alcohol-free attars in 3ml roll-ons - Adaa at Rs 379, Ameeri at Rs 385, Mastani at Rs 389, Nawaab at Rs 399 - are the workhorse: light, flat, and gentle on a bag. Solid body perfumes in 15g tins from Rs 459 are the spill-proof choice for travelling delegates. Car perfumes from Rs 449 suit an audience that drives, which is most sales and channel rooms. Candles from Rs 379 look the most generous on a table but weigh and break the most. For the tier above, the Attar Trio at Rs 1,055 lets the recipient choose their own favourite.
The short answer
Short answer: Fragrance is one of the better corporate event giveaways because it gets used rather than binned: attars Rs 379 to Rs 399, solid perfumes from Rs 459, car perfumes from Rs 449, candles from Rs 379, the Attar Trio Rs 1,055 for a premium tier. It is not a free win. Two honest limits: scent sensitivity means gifts must be handed over sealed and never opened or applied inside a crowded hall, and personal skin fragrance is a taste gamble on strangers, so use sets or space fragrance instead. Candles are heavy and fragile for fly-in delegates. Build budgets from published single-unit prices - 200 attars at Rs 379 is Rs 75,800 - and ask about anything else rather than assuming it.
The pick: a SOSA gift matched to the life they live - personal fragrance from ₹379, home fragrance from ₹379, the Safar for their car (₹3,999), the Vaayu for their business (₹11,999).
Shop: the SOSA gifts collection - alcohol-free, beautifully packaged, from ₹299.
The best fragrance gift is matched to the life the person lives: a scent for their skin, their home, their daily drive - or the business they are proudest of. SOSA covers the whole ladder, from a Rs 379 attar to the Rs 11,999 Vaayu, every step alcohol-free and beautifully packaged.
Is fragrance actually a good corporate event giveaway - and where does it genuinely fall down?
Six points, three for and three against. 1. It survives the hotel room. The measure of a giveaway is what leaves in the suitcase, and an attar (₹379 to ₹399) or a 15g solid perfume (from ₹459) goes home where a tote and a notebook do not. 2. It fits every body and every bag. No sizing, no colour, nothing to store; the alcohol-free formulation is gentler on skin and sidesteps a preference you cannot poll a room about. 3. The arithmetic is friendly. Two hundred attars at ₹379 is ₹75,800; two hundred car perfumes at ₹449 is ₹89,800. 4. Against - the crowded hall. Some percentage of any large audience reacts badly to strong scent. Hand the gift over sealed and let it be opened at home; never run an open-and-spray moment in a full room. 5. Against - taste risk. A personal fragrance picked for strangers is a guess. Use the Attar Trio (₹1,055) so they choose, or scent a space instead of a person. 6. Against - weight and heat.Candles (from ₹379) look best on a table and travel worst in a bag. Build every budget from published single-unit prices, and treat quantity, packing or dated delivery as things to ask about with your headcount and in-hand date, never to assume. Made in India; a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
One line: yes for most events - an attar at ₹379 or a car perfume at ₹449 gets used long after a tote bag is binned - but hand it over sealed, keep the applying out of a crowded hall, and use a set like the Trio (₹1,055) when you are guessing at taste.
The gifting ladder at a glance: an attar for them (from ₹379), a reed diffuser or candle for their home (from ₹379), the Safar for their car (₹3,999), the Vaayu for their business (₹11,999) - all alcohol-free, all ready to gift.
Where fragrance wins as an event giveaway, and where it does not
Three honest sections - the case for fragrance at event scale, the two situations where it genuinely misfires, and the design decisions that remove most of the risk before you order anything.
1
The case for
It is the rare giveaway that leaves in the suitcase
Walk a conference hall at the end of the last session and look at what is left on the chairs. Notebooks, branded pens, half the tote bags, the steel bottle that duplicates the one already at home. The giveaway budget was spent on objects that had to compete with things people already own, and lost. Fragrance competes differently: nobody has enough of it, it is used up rather than stored, and it needs no shelf. An alcohol-free attar at ₹379 to ₹399 is a 3ml roll-on that disappears into a laptop bag; a 15g solid perfume from ₹459 cannot spill on the way home; a car perfume from ₹449 lands in a space almost nobody bothers to make nicer. Two hundred people at ₹379 is ₹75,800, which is not far from what a decent tote and notebook set costs, and the difference is that one of them is met again on a Tuesday morning in November.
Tip: the honest measure of a giveaway is not what it cost but whether it is still in use in November.
2
The case against
A crowded hall is the wrong room for fragrance
Here is the failure nobody plans for. Three hundred people are handed a scent and, being curious, a good number open it and put it on within the same ten minutes, in an enclosed room with recirculated air. What follows is genuinely unpleasant. In any audience of that size there are people with fragrance sensitivity, migraine triggers or asthma, and the room becomes a place they need to leave; and for everyone else, a dozen scents colliding in one hall smells like a duty-free counter rather than a considered gift. This is entirely avoidable and the fix costs nothing. Hand the gift over sealed, at the exit or with the seating card rather than mid-session, and skip the sampling table, the spray booth and the open tester in a packed room. If you want the audience to meet a scent at all, let it be one gentle ambient register in the space, professionally dosed, rather than two hundred people applying at once.
3
Designing it out
Taste, weight and heat - the three fixable risks
The remaining objections are real and each has a clean answer. Taste: a personal skin fragrance chosen by a committee for strangers is a guess, so either give a set and let them choose - the Attar Trio at ₹1,055 is exactly this escape hatch - or scent a space instead of a person, because a car cabin or a living room is far more forgiving than someone's wrist. Where you must choose one scent for everyone, stay in registers with no enemies: sandalwood, soft woods, clean citrus, light spice, and away from anything sharply sweet. Weight: candles from ₹379 photograph beautifully on a gifting table and are the worst thing to hand a delegate with a cabin bag, so keep them for local, drive-in audiences. Heat: gifts left in a parked car or an un-airconditioned store room all day are not being looked after; keep the stock indoors and hand it out at the end.
Tip: give it sealed, give a set when you are guessing, and give weight only to people who are driving home.
The SOSA principle
Fragrance is a very good event giveaway and a very bad event activity - the gift goes home sealed, the hall stays unscented, and everybody is happy.
Attars ₹379 to ₹399, solid perfumes from ₹459, car perfumes from ₹449, candles from ₹379, the Trio ₹1,055 when taste is a guess.

A fragrance giveaway is a lovely thing to open at home and a genuinely miserable thing to open, all at once, in a sealed hall of three hundred people.

Match the gift to the life they live - skin, home, car or business
Waterless scent machine (~1000m³, app + timer) - gift a business its signature

Honest gifting notes: fragrance is personal - when you do not know their taste, choose a gift set (the Attar Trio, ₹1,055) or a home fragrance rather than a personal scent, and favour widely-loved families (sandalwood, citrus, soft florals) over polarising ones. The Hotel Collection scents are SOSA's own interpretations inspired by the world's finest hotels; SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house, not affiliated with any hotel brand. Ultrasonic diffusers use the water-based Hotel Collection fragrance; the Safar and Vaayu run waterless oil - the formats are not interchangeable. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

A note from Sonal
The gifts people remember are rarely the most expensive - they are the most seen. A scent is exactly that: it enters the person's daily life - on their skin, in their living room, in the car they drive to work, in the shop they built from nothing - and every time they meet it, they think of you.
That is why I built the SOSA range as a ladder rather than a shelf: an attar for the person, a candle or diffuser for their home, the Safar for their car, the Vaayu for their business. Match the gift to the life they live and it stops being a thing and becomes a habit - the daily moment where your gift keeps arriving. Everything is alcohol-free, long-lasting and handmade in small batches in India.
One honest note: fragrance is personal. If you do not know their taste, pick a gift set so they can choose, or scent their space instead of their skin - a home or car fragrance flatters almost everyone. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
Frequently asked questions
Will some attendees be uncomfortable receiving a fragrance gift?
A small number, and the way you hand it over decides whether that matters. Receiving a sealed 3ml attar or a closed 15g tin costs nobody anything - it goes in the bag and gets opened, or not, at home. What causes real discomfort is a room in which the gift is opened and applied by hundreds of people at once, or a sampling counter blowing scent across a crowded foyer, because fragrance sensitivity, migraine triggers and asthma are common enough that a few hundred people will always include some. So the rule is simple: sealed handover, no on-site application, no spray booth. It is also worth knowing that SOSA attars, solid perfumes and car perfumes are alcohol-free, which is gentler on sensitive skin and removes a preference question you could not have polled the room about anyway.
Is a personal fragrance too risky when you do not know the recipients?
For a hall full of strangers, a single personal skin scent is a genuine gamble, and there are two clean ways around it. The first is to give a set rather than a verdict: the Attar Trio at Rs 1,055 puts three alcohol-free attars in one box, so the recipient picks the one that suits them instead of living with a committee's choice. The second is to scent a space rather than a person - a car perfume from Rs 449, a candle from Rs 379 or a reed diffuser from Rs 749 flatters almost everyone, because a room or a car cabin is a far more forgiving place for a fragrance than skin. If budget forces a single personal item for everyone, stay in the registers that have no enemies: sandalwood, soft woods, clean citrus and light spice.
How does fragrance compare with the usual conference giveaways on cost?
It sits in the same band and outlives them. Two hundred attars at Rs 379 is Rs 75,800; two hundred car perfumes at Rs 449 is Rs 89,800; two hundred solid perfumes at Rs 459 is Rs 91,800; two hundred candles at Rs 379 is Rs 75,800. Those totals are ordinary for a mid-size conference giveaway line, and comparable to a decent tote-and-notebook set once printing is added. The difference is not price, it is afterlife. The tote joins four others in a cupboard and the notebook is never opened, while a fragrance is used up over weeks and remembered as the nicest thing in the bag. Build your budget from published single-unit prices like these; if you want to ask whether quantity changes anything, ask with your headcount and date rather than planning around an answer you do not have yet.
Should the venue itself be scented if we are giving fragrance gifts?
It can be, but it is a separate decision made with a different instrument, and it must stay gentle. Ambient scenting of a foyer or a registration area is a professional, evenly dosed background - not a room full of people applying samples - and at that level it is pleasant rather than intrusive. If you do it, choose one quiet register and keep it well below the level anyone would call strong, keep it out of dining areas where food aroma should lead, and skip it entirely in a tightly packed session hall where air is already recirculating. The mistake to avoid is doubling up: a heavily scented foyer plus a scent-sampling table plus two hundred people opening gifts is three sources in one building, and the result reads as chaotic rather than considered.
Can we get the gifts branded with our company name?
What every company can do is the part they control: their own printed card or note tucked into the box, a sleeve or belly band in company colours, a ribbon, a sticker on the outer bag, or a folded letter from the founder. That is what most companies actually do, it costs little, and it puts the brand exactly where a brand belongs - on the outer layer, not stuck over a product's own label. Anything beyond that, including printed or engraved product packaging, co-branded boxes, assembly and packing, quantity terms or a held delivery date, is something to raise in a conversation with your headcount, per-head budget, delivery point and in-hand date, and to treat as unconfirmed until someone confirms it. Plan the version of the gift that works without it, then ask.
