Founder Diaries · Reed Diffuser & Home Fragrance Gifting
By Sonal Sahani · ISIPCA Versailles 10 min read Updated September 2026
The good news is that the hard part of this question has already been answered by the architecture. A room built as one shared volume takes one fragrance decision rather than four, which is exactly the situation the only published coverage figure in the SOSA range was written for. The complication arrives with it: the kitchen is inside that volume too. Whatever is cooked on a Saturday is in the same body of air as whatever you gave them, and a page that does not say so is selling you something on a false premise.
SOSA Hotel Collection fragrances supplied with the Vaayu diffuser
SOSA Hotel Collection · four 100 ml fragrances in every Vaayu ₹11,999 →
Every SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 is supplied with four SOSA Hotel Collection fragrances, 100 ml each, in one of three published four-scent sets - so a room like this can be judged over a few weekends rather than at a counter. The machine itself is published for up to 1000 m3, about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft of connected air, at under 38 dB, with 1, 4, 8 or 24-hour windows and adjustable intensity.
Quick answers — read this first
What fragrance gift suits an open living, dining and kitchen built for hosting? One that treats the space as a single volume. SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 is published for up to 1000 m3, stated as about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft of connected air - which is precisely what an open living-dining-kitchen is - with 1, 4, 8 or 24-hour run windows, adjustable intensity and operation under 38 dB.

Does fragrance deal with what gets cooked in the same room? No. Fragrance adds a scent; it does not remove, neutralise, mask or purify anything, and it does not clean the air. Extraction and ventilation handle cooking. What the machine gives you instead is control over when its own scent is running, which is why the scheduling matters more in this room than anywhere else.

Is it complete on arrival, or is there more to buy? It comes with fragrance. Every Vaayu ships with four SOSA Hotel Collection fragrances, 100 ml each, in one of three published four-scent sets, all at ₹11,999. Those blends are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations, and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand.
The short answer
Short answer: One shared volume means one decision instead of four, and the published figure describes exactly that shape: up to about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft of connected air. SOSA Vaayu is Rs 11,999, under 38 dB, with 1, 4, 8 or 24-hour windows. The kitchen is inside the same volume, and fragrance adds rather than removes.
The pick: A SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 - the format that matches a single shared volume, with the intensity turned down rather than up in a room where food is cooked.
Why: The published coverage figure describes one connected body of air, which is what this room is; it runs under 38 dB; and it is scheduled, so it need not be running while dinner is.
Sending something when somebody is having a hard time - at a glanceKeep it small - candle ₹399, attar ₹379, car scent ₹449For their home - reed diffuser ₹749, nothing to switch onSay the words yourself - no card goes in the parcelNever - a parcel instead of turning up
A gift cannot change how somebody's week went, and a page that suggests otherwise is not worth reading. What a small parcel does is tell a person you were thinking about them on a day when nothing made you - which is a real thing to say, and worth saying. Keep it small, because a large one asks somebody already short of energy to produce a reaction, and send the words separately, because the object cannot carry them.
Straight answer
What fragrance gift suits an open living, dining and kitchen built for hosting large groups when it is all one shared volume?
A product rated for a volume rather than for a table, and used with more restraint than it would need anywhere else. One shared volume is the easy half of this. SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 is published for up to 1000 m3, stated on the page as about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft, and that rating assumes exactly one connected body of air - an open living-dining-kitchen is the textbook case for it rather than an edge case. It is waterless cold-air diffusion producing a dry, residue-free mist with no water and no heat, with a 400ml refillable tank, Bluetooth app control plus onboard buttons, 1, 4, 8 or 24-hour run windows, day scheduling and adjustable intensity, under 38 dB, DC 12V / 1A at 5W, 165 x 80.5 x 215 mm at 0.9 kg, black or white, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounted, CE, RoHS and SGS marked, made in India, and it ships with four SOSA Hotel Collection fragrances of 100 ml each. Now the harder half, which is the kitchen. Because the hob is in the same air, two things follow. Fragrance adds a scent and does not remove, neutralise or purify one, so nothing here is an answer to cooking - that is what extraction and ventilation are for. And a scent that would read as pleasant in a closed sitting room can read as crowded next to food, which is an argument for the adjustable intensity and the short run windows rather than for a different product. A portion of every SOSA order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
One volume is one decision, and it is also one conversation with the kitchen. Schedule it around dinner rather than through it.
For a single shared volume: Vaayu at ₹11,999 - up to about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft of connected air, under 38 dB, 1, 4, 8 or 24-hour windows with adjustable intensity, four 100 ml fragrances in the box.

One volume, one decision - and the kitchen is inside it

Three things decide this, and the second one is the reason an open kitchen changes the answer even though it does not change the coverage figure at all.

1
First
Why one shared volume makes this the simplest room in the house to buy for
Most fragrance gifting goes wrong on arithmetic: you buy one bottle for a house of six rooms and five of them notice nothing. A room designed as a single volume removes that problem before you start. There is one body of air, so there is one decision, and the product that suits it is the one rated for a body of air.

Vaayu publishes up to 1000 m3, stated on the product page as about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft - and the figure explicitly assumes air that is connected. An open living-dining-kitchen is not a generous reading of that assumption; it is the case it describes.

Two boundary notes so the number stays honest. If a utility, a store or a bedroom corridor closes off the volume with a door, that part is outside it, and a bottle from ₹749 is the right thing there. And if the ceiling over the dining end is double height, the area equivalent stops being an accurate translation, because 1000 m3 is a volume and the sq ft line assumes an ordinary ceiling; how a tall ceiling changes that is not published, so send the height to WhatsApp on +91 96192 18531 and ask.
Tip: The architecture has already done the hard part: one volume, one decision, one figure to read.
2
Second
The kitchen is in the volume, and that is a real constraint
This is the part most gift pages leave out. In a closed kitchen, cooking and fragrance are two separate environments. In a single shared volume they are one, and that has two consequences worth saying plainly.

The first is what a fragrance cannot do. It adds a scent. It does not remove, neutralise, mask or purify anything, and it does not clean the air. If the concern is what a heavy dinner leaves behind, the answer is extraction and ventilation, and no diffuser at any price changes that. Anybody selling you a machine on that basis is selling you something else.

The second is a matter of degree rather than capability. Food has its own presence in the room, and a scent pitched for an empty sitting room can feel like too much standing beside it. This is where the adjustable intensity and the 1, 4, 8 or 24-hour run windows earn their place: a shorter window before people arrive, a lower setting while cooking is happening, nothing at all if the meal is the event. That is a use decision, not a product decision, and it is the one worth passing on with the gift.
3
Third
What is published for a room used by a crowd, and what is not
Quiet and controlled. Operation is published at under 38 dB, control is by Bluetooth app or the buttons on the unit, with run windows of 1, 4, 8 or 24 hours, chosen days, adjustable intensity, auto-stop and a key-lock. A room used hard on some days and not at all on others is the situation scheduling exists for, and it means the gift is not a thing that runs all week unattended.

Complete in the box. Four SOSA Hotel Collection fragrances of 100 ml each come with it, in one of three published sets, all at ₹11,999, so nothing else is needed on day one. Afterwards SOSA waterless nebuliser refills are ₹1,049 for 100 gm and ₹1,849 for 300 gm; it takes alcohol-free, water-free oil for cold-air diffusion, and the water-based bottles on the site belong to the ultrasonic machines.

And the gaps, which matter more on a page like this than the specification does. How long a 400ml fill lasts is stated two ways on the page - about 75 days in its specification data and 90 or more in its body copy - and depends on intensity and scheduled hours regardless. Nothing is published about what a second machine would add, nothing about how a tall ceiling changes coverage, and there is no installation service, no warranty period and no running-cost figure. All of it goes to WhatsApp on +91 96192 18531.
Tip: Give them the machine and the habit: short window before people arrive, low setting while food is on.
SOSA Vaayu, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounted
Read the number strictly, not generously
About 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft - of air that is actually connected
Vaayu publishes a coverage figure, which almost nothing in home fragrance does: up to 1000 m3, stated as about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft. The caveat matters more than the number. A rating assumes one connected body of air. A ground floor that runs living into dining into a stairwell is one volume and is exactly what the figure describes. A bungalow of the same total area with six closed doors is not one volume, it is six rooms, and the figure does not transfer. Work out how much of the house is genuinely open before you work out anything else - and note that no guidance is published on what a second unit adds.
See SOSA Vaayu ₹11,999 →
Work it out in this order
Four steps for a room where everything happens in the same air
  1. Confirm the volume: which doors, if any, close off part of the open space.
  2. Check the dining-end ceiling height. Tall changes what the sq ft line means.
  3. Accept that cooking is a ventilation question, not a fragrance one.
  4. Pass on the habit: short window before guests, lower setting while food is on.
The SOSA principle
A room designed so that cooking, eating and sitting happen in one body of air was a deliberate decision about how a household wants to be together. Scent is the only layer of that room nobody was asked to specify, and it is the one layer that behaves like the air rather than like a surface.
Which is why the useful gift here is not the most impressive object available, but the one whose published figure is about air - used with rather less confidence than its number invites.

Which four-scent set, when dinner is cooked in the same body of air

Three published four-scent sets, all at ₹11,999: Ritz-Carlton with Westin, St. Regis and 1 Hotels inspirations; Westin with Shangri-La, Four Seasons and Ritz-Carlton; and St. Regis with W Hotels, 1 Hotels and Four Seasons. They are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations, composed by SOSA, and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand. In a volume that contains a working kitchen the choice deserves an extra thought, because the sweeter and more dessert-adjacent a scent reads, the more likely it is to sit oddly beside actual food; the drier and more architectural end of the register tends to coexist better with a meal. Four 100 ml bottles mean that judgement can be made in the room over a few weekends instead of at a counter, and if none of the four settles, the waterless nebuliser oils at ₹1,049 for 100 gm keep the correction small.

The SOSA gift edit
Four gifts for one shared volume, and what each one cannot do
The option Who it suits, and where it fails
SOSA Vaayu · ₹11,999 Rated for the shape this room actually is: up to 1000 m3, about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft of connected air, under 38 dB, 1, 4, 8 or 24-hour windows with adjustable intensity, four 100 ml fragrances in the box. What it cannot do is anything about cooking - it adds a scent and never takes one away.
A 130 ml reed diffuser · ₹1,249 to ₹1,349 The largest passive format, about 6 to 10 weeks, nothing to operate, and a sound gift for a room off the main space. In a single large volume it cannot carry the space, because it scents the air immediately around itself - and it has no way of being turned down while a meal is being cooked.
SOSA Megh · ₹5,999 The largest ultrasonic, water-based, sized for a single room rather than a connected floor. It cannot be left to itself: it wants water and regular refilling, which is a repeated chore in a room already busy on the days it is used most.
A duo gift set · ₹1,498 to ₹2,598 Two bottles of the same size in one box, three published pairings, none composed to order. It looks like an occasion and it is the right budget for many people. What it cannot do is treat this room as one volume, because two bottles in one shared space is still two local effects.

The two details that matter in a finished house
Under 38 dB, and it runs only when you tell it to
Two published details decide whether this belongs in a house somebody spent years on. It runs under 38 dB, which is the answer to the reasonable worry about a machine humming in a double-height living room. And it is scheduled: Bluetooth app plus onboard buttons, run windows of 1, 4, 8 or 24 hours, chosen days and adjustable intensity, with auto-stop and a key-lock. That is what makes it workable in a house occupied for part of the year, or a room used only when people come over. It is 165 x 80.5 x 215 mm and 0.9 kg, black or white, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounted, and it ships with four 100 ml fragrances - so it is complete on the day it arrives.

For completeness, and because a room built for large groups tempts people upward: SOSA Meenar at ₹38,500 is published for 12,000 to 18,000 sq ft - a hotel, a showroom, a corporate floor - and in a home it is the wrong machine rather than the ambitious one, with nothing published in the catalogue between it and Vaayu. Downward, Boond at ₹899 and Sukoon at ₹1,899 are water-based ultrasonics for a single room. SOSA Safar at ₹3,999 is cordless and travels with a person to a car or a hotel room rather than scenting a property, and it is imported rather than made in India. SOSA candles from ₹399 are good objects for a table and each needs a flame and somebody to attend to it, with no burn figure published. And attars from ₹379 are worn rather than placed.

The number this whole decision turns on, and where it stops being true
Up to 1000 m3 - about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft - of connected air
SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 publishes a coverage figure, which almost nothing else in home fragrance does: up to 1000 m3, stated on the product page as about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft. It is a waterless cold-air machine producing a dry, residue-free mist with no water and no heat, running under 38 dB on DC 12V / 1A at 5W, with a 400ml refillable tank, Bluetooth app and onboard button control, run windows of 1h, 4h, 8h or 24h, day scheduling and adjustable intensity, plus auto-stop and a key-lock. It is 165 x 80.5 x 215 mm and 0.9 kg, in black or white, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounted, CE, RoHS and SGS marked, and its country of origin is India. But a coverage rating assumes one connected body of air. That figure describes an open-plan living-dining floor, a duplex's main level, a double-height hall - the kind of volume a small passive bottle cannot reach. It does not describe a bungalow with every internal door closed, because that is not one volume; it is six. Above about 3,000 sq ft of genuinely connected space, or across separated wings, the honest answer is a conversation rather than a number, because no multi-unit guidance is published. SOSA Meenar at ₹38,500 is published for 12,000 to 18,000 sq ft and is a commercial machine rather than a house gift.

The SOSA gifting range

Two questions settle almost every reed diffuser gift, and the first one is not price. How big is the room it is going into? A 50ml suits a bedroom, a study, a hallway or a first diffuser; a 130ml suits an open-plan living and dining area, and it is genuinely too much for a small closed bedroom. Then: how much do you actually know about their taste? The less you know, the less declarative the scent should be - Morning Freshness is the safest of the five for a home you have never stood in, and Fresh Brew coffee-vanilla is the strongest opinion in the range. Price follows those two answers rather than leading them.

A coverage rating assumes one connected body of air. Vaayu's figure describes an open-plan volume - a living-dining floor, a duplex's main level, a double-height hall. A house with every internal door shut is not one volume, and the figure does not transfer to it. Every Vaayu ships with four SOSA Hotel Collection fragrances, 100 ml each, and its country of origin is India. Fragrance adds a scent to a space; it does not remove, neutralise or purify one, and the dry residue-free mist is a statement about residue rather than about air quality. SOSA blends described as hotel-inspired are SOSA's own interpretations and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand. Prices above are published retail prices; bulk orders are welcome and quantities are settled on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531. SOSA is an Indian fragrance house based in Pune. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

What the Vaayu page publishes, and what it does not
Everything below is on the live product page. Anything not on this list is not something a page like this should state.
  • Coverage - up to 1000 m3, published as about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft. A rating assumes one connected body of air, so it describes an open-plan floor rather than a house of closed rooms.
  • The machine - waterless cold-air diffusion, dry and residue-free, no water and no heat. 165 x 80.5 x 215 mm, 0.9 kg, black or white, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounted. DC 12V / 1A, 5W. Under 38 dB. Auto-stop and key-lock. CE, RoHS and SGS. Country of origin India.
  • Control - a 400ml refillable tank, Bluetooth app plus onboard buttons, run windows of 1h, 4h, 8h or 24h, day scheduling and adjustable intensity. This is what makes it workable in a house that is empty for stretches, or a room used only at weekends.
  • In the box - every Vaayu ships with four SOSA Hotel Collection fragrances, 100 ml each, in one of three published four-scent sets, all at ₹11,999. SOSA blends described as hotel-inspired are SOSA's own interpretations and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand.
  • The fragrance - alcohol-free, water-free oils formulated for cold-air diffusion. SOSA waterless nebuliser refills are ₹1,049 for 100 gm and ₹1,849 for 300 gm and are published for Vaayu and Safar. The water-based ultrasonic bottles belong to a different kind of machine.
  • Not published, and therefore never stated here: how long a 400ml fill lasts as a single figure - the page says about 75 days in one place and 90 or more in another; what a second unit adds; any warranty period, service interval or filter; any installation service; any app name, phone compatibility or Bluetooth range; and any running or electricity cost. Those go to WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.

A note from Sonal

The messages I find hardest to answer are the ones that begin with an apology. They have just finished building the house. I don't want to sound cheap, but I also can't buy them anything that matters at that scale. And underneath it is a real anxiety: that after years of drawings and delays and site visits, whatever you turn up with will look like a token.

What I would say is that the anxiety is aimed at the wrong thing. You are not competing with the house. Nobody is. The people who built it spent two years choosing between four shades of the same stone, and there is no object you can hand over that will register on that scale. Trying is how people end up buying a vase that gets moved to a spare room.

The reason I keep coming back to scent for these particular houses is unromantic. It is the last layer, and it is the only one nobody planned. An architect resolves the volume, a designer resolves the surfaces, a lighting consultant resolves the evening, and then everybody stops - because scent is not on anybody's drawing. So it is one of the few things left that adds to a finished house without arguing with a single decision already made in it.

The part I would be careful about is the number. Vaayu publishes a coverage figure, which almost nothing in home fragrance does, and I would rather you read it strictly than generously. About 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft, of air that is actually connected. A ground floor that opens living into dining into a stairwell is that. A bungalow with six closed doors is not that, whatever its total square footage says on paper, and a page that blurs the two is doing you no favours.

Frequently asked questions

Why does an open living, dining and kitchen suit a machine rather than bottles?
Because it is one connected body of air, which is the assumption behind the only coverage figure SOSA publishes. Vaayu is rated for up to 1000 cubic metres, stated as approximately 2,000 to 3,000 square feet of connected air, so a single open volume is the case it describes. A passive bottle scents the air immediately around itself, which suits a smaller closed room instead.
Will it handle what gets cooked in the same room?
No. Fragrance adds a scent to a space. It does not remove, neutralise, mask or purify anything, it does not clean the air, and no SOSA product makes a health or air-purifying claim. Cooking is a ventilation and extraction question. What the machine does give you is control over when its own scent is running, through 1, 4, 8 or 24-hour windows and adjustable intensity.
Can it be turned down while food is being cooked?
Yes. Intensity is adjustable and the run windows are 1, 4, 8 or 24 hours with chosen days, set from the Bluetooth app or the buttons on the unit, and there is auto-stop and a key-lock. In a shared volume that control is the useful part: a short window before people arrive and a lower setting or nothing at all while a meal is being made.
Is one unit enough for a large open floor built for entertaining?
If the whole of it is genuinely connected and within about 2,000 to 3,000 square feet, that is what the published figure describes. If part of it closes behind a door, that part is outside the figure. If the dining end is double height, the square-footage equivalent is less useful, because the published rating is a volume of up to 1000 cubic metres and the area figure assumes an ordinary ceiling. No guidance is published on what a second unit would add - ask SOSA on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531.
What else should I ask before buying it as a gift?
How long a 400 ml fill lasts, because the page states it two ways - about 75 days in its specification data and 90 or more days in its body copy - and it depends on intensity and scheduled hours anyway. Also unpublished: how ceiling height changes coverage, what a second unit adds to a larger volume, no warranty period, no service interval, no installation service and no running-cost figure. Vaayu at ₹11,999 matches the shape of this room: up to about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft of connected air, under 38 dB, 1, 4, 8 or 24-hour windows, adjustable intensity, four 100 ml fragrances in the box. It adds a scent and does not remove one, so cooking stays a ventilation question. Tell SOSA where the doors are and how high the dining end is, and ask what a fill really lasts.

About the coverage figure: a rating assumes one connected body of air. The published figure describes an open-plan volume such as a living-dining floor, a duplex's main level or a double-height hall, and does not describe a property whose rooms are separated by closed doors, whatever its total floor area. No guidance is published on what a second unit adds. About tank life: the Vaayu product page states the life of one 400 ml fill in two different ways - approximately 75 days in its specification and FAQ data, and 90 or more days in its body copy - and in either case it depends on the intensity setting and the scheduled hours, so no single figure is stated on this page. What is not published, and is therefore not stated here: any warranty period, service interval or filter; any installation service; any app name, phone compatibility or Bluetooth range; any running or electricity cost; and any multi-unit coverage. Limits of this guide: fragrance adds a scent to a space. It does not remove, neutralise, mask or purify odour, it does not clean the air, and no SOSA product makes any health, antibacterial or air-purifying claim; a dry residue-free mist is a statement about residue and not about air quality. No claim is made anywhere on this page about mood, stress, calm, sleep or wellbeing, nor about how any recipient or guest will feel, nor about what a gift does for any business result. No page here characterises any recipient's wealth or describes people who own particular kinds of property; where a property value appears it is the figure the reader themselves supplied as context. SOSA blends described as hotel-inspired are SOSA's own interpretations and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand. SOSA Home & Body is an Indian fragrance house based in Pune, Maharashtra, sending orders across India, with no shop, showroom, stockist, counter or warehouse in any other city.
