I am going to give you an unsatisfying answer honestly rather than a satisfying one dishonestly. There is no published figure for how far a reed diffuser projects, we have not measured one, and I am not going to invent one for you. Any brand that answers this question in feet is quoting a number for a room it has never seen, and the number will be wrong in most of the rooms it is read in. What can be answered — usefully, and without making anything up — is the question underneath: how much room a reed diffuser can hold, and what decides it.
Quick answers — read this first
Why there is no distance figure: a reed is a point source with no transport. It emits, and then the room carries the vapour or does not. Distance is therefore a property of the room, not of the bottle, so a figure in feet would describe one particular room on one particular evening and mislead everybody else.

Ask about room size instead: a 50ml from ₹749 suits rooms up to about 150 sq ft and lasts 6–8 weeks; 130ml from ₹1,249 suits above that and lasts 14–18 weeks. Those are sizing figures we stand behind. They are not distances, and they describe how much space a bottle can reasonably serve rather than how far it throws.

The three variables that decide what you get: volume (a small room concentrates), containment (a closed door holds it, an open balcony flushes it), and airflow (moving air distributes, still air does not). Change those and the same bottle behaves like two different products.

Free before paid, always: six reeds rather than three, halve the bottle-to-person distance, nose height, out of the draught but not a dead corner, close the door, and ceiling fan on low — the best free fix in the subject, because a fan is the transport a reed does not have. It shortens bottle life; that is the trade.
The short answer
Short answer: nobody can honestly tell you in feet, including us. SOSA publishes no projection distance for a reed diffuser, because a passive diffuser has no transport of its own — whatever crosses the room is carried by the room's air, and every room moves a different amount of it at different hours. The truthful frame is room size, containment and airflow. A 50ml is built for up to about 150 sq ft and a 130ml for above that, and within those spaces the fragrance will be strongest at the bottle and fall away continuously from there.
What to expect in practice: in a small closed room with the door shut, a properly reeded bottle can make the whole space read as fragranced. In a larger room, or one with a balcony door or an open window, expect a strong zone around the bottle and a general impression elsewhere — and understand that this is the product performing to specification rather than underperforming. Bottle volume is a duration specification, not a coverage specification: a larger bottle lasts longer, it does not reach further.
Where honest numbers do exist: on the machines, which move their own air and can therefore be rated. Boond ₹899 up to about 150 sq ft · Sukoon ₹1,899 270–320 sq ft · Megh ₹3,499 only about 215 sq ft despite a six-litre tank · Vaayu ₹11,999 up to 1000 m³, roughly 2,000–3,000 sq ft. We publish no coverage figure for Safar ₹3,999, which is named and sold as a car and travel diffuser — so we do not quote one. Free shipping above ₹499.
Straight answer
How far will a reed diffuser fragrance actually travel, in feet?
1. There is no honest figure, and we do not publish one. A reed diffuser has no fan, pump or heat. It emits fragrance into the air at the reeds and has no means of moving it anywhere, so the distance it reaches is set by your room rather than by the bottle. A number in feet would be a measurement of one room, quoted at a reader standing in a different one.

2. Ask the answerable question instead: how much room can it hold? That we can answer, because it is a sizing question rather than a physics claim. A 50ml suits rooms up to about 150 sq ft and lasts 6–8 weeks; a 130ml suits above that and lasts 14–18 weeks. Within that space, expect the strongest fragrance at the bottle, falling away continuously with distance.

3. Three variables move the answer more than the bottle does. Volume — the same output in a smaller space is more concentrated everywhere in it. Containment — a closed door holds fragrance in, an open window or balcony door flushes it out, because air that leaves takes the fragrance with it. Airflow — moving air distributes, still air does not. A bathroom wins on all three at once, which is exactly why the same bottle feels convincing there and modest in a bedroom.

4. You can change all three for nothing. Close the door. Run the ceiling fan on low, which is the best free fix available and supplies the transport a reed structurally lacks — knowing that it shortens the life of the bottle. Put all six reeds in rather than three. Halve the distance between the bottle and where you sit. Set it at or just below nose height on a surface, out of a draught but not in a dead corner.

5. If you want a coverage number, buy something that can honestly carry one. Machines move their own air, so they can be rated: Sukoon at ₹1,899 is 270–320 sq ft, which is a bedroom. Vaayu at ₹11,999 is up to 1000 m³, roughly 2,000–3,000 sq ft, and is the wrong purchase for one bedroom. And I will not quote a coverage figure for Safar at ₹3,999, because none has been published and it is named and sold as a car and travel diffuser.

Alcohol-free, phthalate-free, paraben-free, IFRA-compliant, 0 ppm formaldehyde. Six fibre reeds in a refillable glass bottle, composed in Pune. Free shipping above ₹499, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
TL;DR: no published distance exists and I will not invent one. Think in room size, containment and airflow. A 50ml holds up to about 150 sq ft, a 130ml above that — and a shut door plus a fan on low changes the answer more than any bottle you could buy.
SOSA Morning Freshness reed diffuser
The figures we do stand behind
50ml and 130ml — the only two sizes we make from ₹749
Fifty millilitres for rooms up to about 150 sq ft, running 6–8 weeks. One hundred and thirty for rooms above that, running 14–18 weeks. Six fibre reeds either way, in a refillable glass bottle. Those are sizing and duration figures, tested in ordinary Indian households, and they are the honest answer to a question people usually ask in feet. If you have seen a 100ml or 200ml reed diffuser somewhere, it was not ours — we make two sizes and no others.

The three variables that decide how much room you get

If distance is not a property of the bottle, it has to be a property of something, and it is a property of these three. They are worth understanding individually because two of them are free to change and one of them explains almost every "why does the same bottle behave differently here" question we receive.

1
VARIABLE ONE · VOLUME
The same output, divided by a bigger number
Garden Bloom reed diffuserGarden Bloom₹799Concentration is output divided by volume, which sounds obvious until you notice how much of it people attribute to the product. A 50ml bottle in a small bathroom and the same bottle in an open-plan living-dining room are not two performances of one product; they are one performance measured against two very different denominators — and the second room usually has a higher ceiling as well, which people forget to count. This is why our sizing is written in square feet rather than in feet of reach: 50ml up to about 150 sq ft, 130ml above that. If a bottle reads as weak, the first suspect is the room, not the oil.
Free adjustment: use the reed count as a dial — all six in a larger room, three in a small one where six would be too much.
2
VARIABLE TWO · CONTAINMENT
Half the equation, and it is free
Evening Calm reed diffuserEvening Calm₹799A room is not a sealed box; it leaks continuously through doors, windows and balconies, and everything that leaves takes fragrance with it. A closed bathroom door is why a modest bottle feels powerful in a modest space. An open balcony door is why a good bottle feels absent in a larger one — that is a very large opening, and the whole room's air turns over. The correct conclusion is not that you must live sealed in; it is that a home with the windows open all day is not a fragrance environment during those hours, and becomes one again the moment they close. Air the room, then close it, then expect the fragrance to build.
Free adjustment: shut the door for the hours you want the room to be fragrant. It costs nothing and does as much as a purchase.
3
VARIABLE THREE · AIRFLOW
The only thing that turns a zone into a room
SOSA Sukoon ultrasonic diffuserSukoon₹1,899Volume and containment decide how concentrated the air can get. Airflow decides whether that concentration is distributed or left sitting around the reeds. This is the variable a reed diffuser cannot supply for itself, which is the whole reason this cluster of questions exists — and it is also the variable you can most easily borrow. A ceiling fan on low is the best free fix in this subject, because it is exactly the transport the bottle lacks; run it in a closed room, not directly under the blades at speed, and expect the bottle to empty sooner in exchange. An AC in a closed room does something similar by recirculating, which is why bedrooms often smell strongest at night, while drying the air and speeding evaporation. Both effects are real; say both.
Free adjustment: fan on low, door closed, bottle off the draught line between two openings.

Why any answer in feet is a number for a room the brand has never seen

I want to be direct about the industry practice here, because it is the reason this page exists. It is common to see reed diffusers advertised with a projection figure — so many feet, so many square feet of "coverage" — and those numbers are not lies exactly, but they are close to meaningless. To produce one you would have to fix a room volume, a ceiling height, a temperature, a humidity, an air-change rate and a reed count, then measure at a particular height on a particular evening. Change any of those and the figure changes. Publish the number without the room, and you have published a number about somebody else's house.

We could have measured one and printed it. We have not, and while I would rather have data than not, I am also aware of what a single figure would do in practice: it would become a promise. Someone in a 200 sq ft room with a balcony would read it, expect it, not get it, and conclude the bottle was faulty when the bottle was performing exactly as designed. That is a worse outcome than an honest gap, and I would rather name the gap and give you the three variables that actually decide your answer.

There is also a limit case worth stating plainly, because it saves people from a purchase that cannot work. Evenness — the same intensity wherever you stand — is a property of moved air and cannot be bought any other way. No reed count produces it, no bottle size produces it, no fragrance strength produces it, and two passive diffusers produce two peaks with a valley between them rather than a plateau, because the midpoint is the farthest point from both sources. If evenness is your requirement, the correct answer is a machine, and the correct machine is the one sized to your room rather than the most expensive one on the shelf.

Five room profiles, and what each can reasonably expect

Since a distance figure would be false, here is the useful substitute: five rooms most Indian homes contain, described by the three variables, with an honest account of what a well-placed and fully reeded bottle does in each. Nothing in this table is a measurement of distance, because none exists.

Expectations, set honestly
What a properly placed reed diffuser does in five real rooms
Room Volume Containment Airflow What to expect
Bathroom, ~50 sq ft ★ Very small Excellent — door shut, no balcony Little The whole room reads as fragranced. 2–3 reeds is enough, and a 50ml can run close to three months
Bedroom, ~120 sq ft, door closed Small Good, if the door is shut Fan or AC available With six reeds and the fan on low, the room reads as fragranced. Without airflow, a strong zone and a quiet perimeter
Bedroom, ~150 sq ft, balcony door open Moderate Poor while it is open High, and outward A zone at the bottle. The room is being flushed; close the door for the hours that matter
Living room, ~250 sq ft Large, often with a high ceiling Usually open to a hall Variable Use 130ml and all six reeds. Expect a fragrant seating area rather than an even room
Open-plan living-dining Very large, one volume Effectively none Variable Honestly beyond a passive diffuser if evenness is the goal. A zone at each source, and a valley between two of them

The two sizes we actually make, and the machine that can carry a number
The SOSA principle
A projection figure in feet is a measurement of one room, sold to a reader standing in another.
Which is why we publish room sizes and durations, which travel between houses, and not distances, which do not.

Volume is duration, not coverage — and our own range proves it

The commonest way this question goes wrong is that people convert it into a size question and buy a bigger bottle. It is an entirely reasonable move and it does not work, because bottle volume is a duration specification rather than a coverage specification. A 130ml holds more oil than a 50ml, so it runs 14–18 weeks instead of 6–8, and it is the right choice for a room above about 150 sq ft because a larger room consumes more. What it does not do is push fragrance further, because reach is decided by air movement and both bottles sit passively in the same still air.

The clearest proof of this sits inside our own catalogue, and I would rather point at it myself than let someone discover it after paying. Megh at ₹3,499 has a six-litre tank and around a hundred hours of runtime, which is far and away the largest capacity in the home range — and it covers only about 215 sq ft, which is less than the Sukoon at ₹1,899 with its 270–320. Megh is a runtime and humidity machine and it is very good at being one. It is not a coverage upgrade, and buying it as one is the clearest trap in our own shelf. Capacity answers how long. Coverage answers how much room. They are different specifications and a bigger tank buys the first.

Which leads to the honest way to think about what you are paying for when you move from a bottle to a machine. It is not a better smell. A ₹749 reed and an ₹11,999 nebuliser can run related fragrances and produce completely different rooms, and what the higher price buys is transport, control and evenness — not composition. If you are happy with a fragrant zone, the reed is not the budget option; it is the correct object, and it is silent, needs no socket, has nothing to fill or charge, works in a power cut, costs about ₹13 to ₹15 a day and never breaks.

We publish room sizes and weeks. We do not publish feet, because feet belong to the room and not to the bottle.
— Sonal Sahani, SOSA

Where honest coverage numbers do exist — and where they do not

Machines can carry coverage figures because they move their own air, so their reach is a property of the device rather than of your ceiling fan. That makes them the right place to look if you want a number to size against. One caution before the table, because it is the likeliest disappointment when people cross from bottles to machines: reed oil cannot go into an ultrasonic machine, the water-based Hotel Collection cannot go into reeds, and Safar takes pure fragrance oil. A change of mechanism may well mean a change of scent, so treat a machine as an addition rather than an upgrade.

Sizing, honestly
What each option is rated for, and the two figures that do not exist
Option What it is Coverage / sizing Price
1. 50ml reed Passive, six fibre reeds, 6–8 weeks, roughly ₹13–₹15 a day Rooms up to about 150 sq ft. A zone, not an even room ₹749–₹849
2. 130ml reed Passive, six fibre reeds, 14–18 weeks Rooms above about 150 sq ft. Longer, not further ₹1,249–₹1,349
3. Boond Ultrasonic, 300ml, roughly 6 hours, USB, night light Up to about 150 sq ft ₹899
4. Sukoon Ultrasonic, 500ml, 16–18 hours on low, three 15ml Hotel Collection scents included. Water-diluted, adds humidity 270–320 sq ft — a bedroom, and very often the right answer ₹1,899
Megh, if bought for reach Ultrasonic, six-litre tank, about 100 hours of runtime Only about 215 sq ft — less than the ₹1,899 Sukoon. A runtime and humidity machine, never a coverage upgrade ₹3,499
5. Vaayu Waterless cold-air nebuliser, 400ml, up to ~90+ days, under 38 dB Up to 1000 m³, roughly 2,000–3,000 sq ft. Wrong for one bedroom — nine-tenths wasted in 120 sq ft ₹11,999
The two figures that do not exist: a reed's projection distance, and Safar's coverage Safar ₹3,999 is waterless cold diffusion of undiluted oil, 20ml, cordless, three speeds, a 1/2/3-hour timer — named and sold as a car and travel diffuser, and not set-and-forget No projection figure is published for any reed diffuser, and no room-coverage figure is published for Safar. The deepest thing we make, and what that does and does not buy
Fresh Brew · Coorg coffee + Kerala vanilla ₹849 / 50ml
At 9.5 on our perceived-intensity scale this is the most present composition in the range, and it holds a room more confidently than anything else we make. That is a taller peak at the source, and it is worth having in a living room where the air moves. It is still not a distance figure: a deeper fragrance raises how strongly the zone reads, not how far the zone extends. Judge intensity by the scale, judge reach by the room. 6–8 weeks on the 50ml, 14–18 on the 130ml at ₹1,349.

A note from Sonal

This is the page on which I have to decline to answer the question as it was asked, and I have thought about that a good deal. It would be trivially easy to write a confident-sounding figure. Every instinct in commerce says to do it, because a number closes a sale and a caveat does not. But I have spent enough of my life measuring things to know what a measurement is worth when the conditions are not stated, and a projection figure without a room attached is not information, it is decoration.

What I can tell you is what we do stand behind, because those figures were arrived at in ordinary Indian homes rather than in a marketing meeting: a 50ml holds a room up to about 150 sq ft and runs six to eight weeks; a 130ml is for larger rooms and runs fourteen to eighteen; two or three reeds in a small bathroom can stretch a 50ml close to three months. Those numbers travel from one house to another. A number in feet does not.

And I would rather you spent nothing than spent wrongly. Before you buy anything on the strength of this page: put all six reeds in, halve the distance to where you sit, shut the door, and run the ceiling fan on low — accepting that the bottle will empty a little sooner. If after that your requirement is genuinely evenness across a whole room, buy a machine sized to that room. Not the six-litre one, which covers less than the ₹1,899 one. Not the ₹11,999 one, which is built for a floor. Everything is composed in Pune, and a part of every order funds a girl's classroom through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

How far does a reed diffuser fragrance travel?
There is no published figure and SOSA does not quote one, because a reed diffuser has no transport of its own — the distance is set by your room's air movement rather than by the bottle. Any brand answering this in feet is quoting a number measured in a room you have never stood in. The answerable version is room size: a 50ml suits up to about 150 sq ft and a 130ml above that, with the fragrance strongest at the bottle and falling away from there.
Will a bigger bottle cover more of my room?
No. Bottle volume is a duration specification, not a coverage specification — 14–18 weeks on a 130ml against 6–8 on a 50ml. The proof sits in our own range: Megh at ₹3,499 has a six-litre tank and about 100 hours of runtime, and still covers only around 215 sq ft, less than the ₹1,899 Sukoon's 270–320. Capacity answers how long; coverage answers how much room.
What coverage does Safar have?
SOSA has published no room-coverage figure for Safar and I will not invent one. What is published: ₹3,999, waterless cold diffusion of undiluted oil, a 20ml bottle, a 2000 mAh battery giving up to about 10 hours continuous or roughly 30 intermittent, three speeds and a 1, 2 or 3-hour auto-off timer. It is named and sold as a car and travel diffuser, and it is not set-and-forget — the timer runs out and the battery needs recharging.
Do I need Vaayu to fragrance one bedroom properly?
No. Vaayu at ₹11,999 is rated to 1000 m³, roughly 2,000–3,000 sq ft, and in a 120 sq ft bedroom nine-tenths of that capability is wasted. It earns its price on a whole floor, an open-plan living-dining space, a large home or a commercial room. For one bedroom, Sukoon at ₹1,899 with its 270–320 sq ft is very often the correct answer — and between Safar at ₹3,999 and Vaayu there is no mid-sized waterless nebuliser in the range at all.
What am I actually paying for when I move from a reed to a machine?
Transport, control and evenness — not a better fragrance. A modest reed and an expensive nebuliser can run related scents and produce completely different rooms, because the price difference buys air movement, timing and consistency. If a fragrant zone is what you want, the reed is the correct object rather than the budget one: silent, no power, nothing to fill or charge, works in a power cut, about ₹13–₹15 a day, and it never breaks.
