How should the note be written? As observation rather than assessment. Name what she did and what it cost her - not how proud it makes you feel, which turns it towards you.
Does it need an occasion? No. There was no announcement, so there is no wave and no wrong week. An ordinary day makes the point better than a date would.
Almost every gift you give her is about the relationship
It is worth noticing how unusual this gift actually is, because that is where its effect comes from. Almost everything that passes between two people in a relationship is addressed to the relationship itself. Birthdays are a shared ritual. Anniversaries are explicitly about the two of you. Flowers after a bad week are about repair. Even a spontaneous present usually carries a message about how things are going between you. A proud-of-you gift is different in kind: it is addressed to her as a separate person, about something she did that has nothing to do with you, and it says that you were paying attention to her own life rather than to the joint one. Plenty of people in long relationships never receive one of these at all, which is why a small object with the right note attached can land disproportionately hard. Now the wording, which is where this goes wrong. Two failure modes. The first is that proud of you carries a faint suggestion of seniority - it is a sentence parents say to children and coaches say to players, and sideways it can sound like an evaluation. In a relationship that reads oddly, because you are not in a position to be assessing her performance and both of you know it. The second failure is subtler and more common: making the note about your reaction. I am so proud of you, it made me so happy, I could not stop smiling. All of that is sincere and all of it quietly turns the subject back to the giver, which means she now has to respond to your feelings rather than receive an acknowledgement of hers. The fix for both is the same: write observation rather than assessment. Name the thing. Name how long it took. Name the specific part nobody else would have noticed - the month it was going badly, the thing she gave up, the evening she was ready to stop and did not. Observations cannot condescend, because they are facts rather than judgements, and they do not redirect attention, because they are about her. Three or four sentences of that outperforms any amount of adjectives. Then the occasion, or rather the absence of one. This is a gift with no calendar attached: there was no announcement, so there is no forty-eight-hour wave of congratulations to wait out and no correct week. That makes an ordinary Tuesday the best possible timing, because the absence of a reason is itself the message - nothing prompted this, I was thinking about what you did. If the achievement was months ago and nobody ever marked it, that is not too late either; it may be the first acknowledgement she has received. On what to choose, a partner has one advantage nobody else has: you know what she actually likes. A worn fragrance is the one category where personal taste can reject a gift outright, and you are the person best placed to avoid that. Use it. If you are genuinely unsure, the Attar Trio hands the choice back without giving up the personal register. Two things to avoid. Do not make it romantic in register - roses, hearts, anything anniversary-shaped - because that converts it back into a relationship gift and undoes the entire point. And do not make it a stepping stone: nothing that points at what she should do next, which turns an arrival into a staging post. Now the objects. An alcohol-free attar at three hundred and seventy-nine to three hundred and ninety-nine rupees is the best fit, because it is personal without being romantic and because it is a category almost nobody buys for themselves. Twelve millilitres of undiluted perfume oil in a glass roll-on with no alcohol carrier, which means it does not spray or project - it opens quietly and stays within roughly an arm's length, worn for the wearer rather than announced to a room. Adaa at three hundred and seventy-nine rupees is bergamot, green cardamom, jasmine sambac and white musk. Ameeri at three hundred and eighty-five is Taif rose with Indian sandalwood. Mastani at three hundred and eighty-nine is night jasmine and Damask rose. Nawaab at three hundred and ninety-nine is a white oud composition built with Mysore sandalwood and Kashmir saffron rather than a dehn al oud distillate, worth saying plainly. The Attar Trio at one thousand and fifty-five rupees is the version where she chooses, which is the reliable move if she has firm opinions about what she wears. If you want the fragrance to attach to this particular stretch of her life, pick something she does not already own: people very commonly report that a scent used during a period brings that period back years later, which is a widely reported experience rather than a mechanism this shop is claiming, and nothing here is a scientific or medical statement. A solid perfume at four hundred and fifty-nine to five hundred and forty-nine rupees is the format that matches an achievement built from daily effort, because it gets carried through something rather than displayed after it: fifteen grams of alcohol-free balm in a flat compact, applied with a finger, spill-proof, no cap to lose, six to eight hours, surviving months in a bag. Velour at four hundred and seventy-nine is vanilla bean, butter biscuit, toasted almond and whipped cream. Sterling at four hundred and sixty-nine is coconut milk, almond nougat, white amber and powdered musk. Siren at four hundred and eighty-nine is black cherry, espresso, warm vanilla and cedar smoke. Sway at four hundred and fifty-nine is dark cherry, espresso, cocoa, red patchouli and vanilla husk. A coconut-soy candle at three hundred and seventy-nine rupees is the simple option and is perfectly sufficient with the right note, particularly if the achievement was private and nothing about it should be on display: lead-free eco wick, phthalate-free, hand-poured in small batches in Pune, fifteen to eighteen hours, in Misty Mornings, Bookshop, Evening Walks or Cozy Corner. Two at seven hundred and fifty-eight rupees is a complete gift. Wax melts at four hundred and seventy-four rupees need a ceramic burner at five hundred and sixty-nine, so give both or neither. A reed diffuser at seven hundred and forty-nine to eight hundred and forty-nine rupees works if the work happened at home - a study, a desk, a corner that has had a project on it for months - since changing that room once the effort is over quietly marks the end of it. A minute to set up, then nothing, two to three months with no flame, no socket and no switch. Reeds use their own alcohol-free reed oil drawn up rattan by capillary action; reed oil never goes into a machine, and the water-based Hotel Collection concentrate at two hundred and ninety-nine rupees is ultrasonic-only at three to six drops per tank.

Versailles
There is a pattern I noticed years before we sold anything, and it is the reason this section exists. Somebody achieves something that took them years - the flat, the first car bought outright, the manuscript finished at last - and for about forty-eight hours the phone does not stop. Then it stops completely. The achievement took three years; the celebrating took a weekend, and then everybody went back to their own lives, which is not unkind, it is just how attention works.
Which means a gift arriving in week two or three lands in an empty field. That is the single most useful thing on any of these pages and it costs nothing. The second is that a congratulations gift is not repaying anything: nobody owes anybody here, so there is no ledger to balance and no risk of over-gifting into an obligation. You are free to be as generous as the relationship allows. And write the note about what they did, not about how you feel - name the four years, the thing they gave up, the draft they rewrote eleven times.
Two honest things. If somebody has just bought a new car, do not buy them something to cover the smell of it - most new owners like it, it fades on its own, and a fragrance is better introduced a few weeks later in a restrained register. And if somebody has bought a new home, size the gift to the home: our Vaayu is a waterless nebuliser built for spaces of roughly a thousand cubic metres, which is a hotel lobby rather than a three-bedroom flat, and we would rather tell you that than sell you one. Message us on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 with what they achieved and what their place is like, and we will say honestly if we think fragrance is the wrong call.
