Set-up gets all the attention and pack-down gets none, which is why most brokers who carry a scenting kit have at some point opened a car boot onto a slick of concentrated fragrance oil. There are two jobs here and they are both ten-minute jobs. One is the machine: switch it off, let it settle, cap it, carry it properly, and take seriously what an Indian car boot in May does to a bottle of oil. The other is the property, which has to go back to the owner exactly as you found it, down to the socket you unplugged.
Quick answers — read this first
What should a realtor do with a scent machine after a viewing? Switch it off as the buyer leaves rather than letting it run on. Give it a few minutes standing upright and idle before you touch it, so any oil in the atomiser head and the line drains back into the bottle instead of sitting where it will leak when you tilt the unit. Then cap the bottle firmly - ideally remove it from the machine, cap it and carry it separately in a sealed bag - and pack the unit upright in a hard case. Carry the case in the cabin rather than the boot. A SOSA Vaayu is Rs 11,999, waterless, 12V and 5W, so there is no water tank to empty and nothing wet to dry.
Is it safe to keep fragrance oil in a car boot in India? It is the part of this that deserves genuine thought. A closed car parked in the sun in an Indian summer reaches interior temperatures well above the outside air, and the boot is the worst of it - dark, unventilated and against the rear bulkhead. Sustained heat pushes seals and caps, which is how oil weeps out of a bottle that was closed properly, and it also degrades the fragrance itself: the light top notes, the bergamot and citrus, oxidise first, so the register you paid for shifts away from what you chose. Carry the kit in the passenger footwell or on the back seat with the air conditioning on, upright, in a hard case, and do not leave it in a parked car all afternoon.
What has to be restored in the property before you leave? Reverse everything you changed, in the order you changed it. Windows you opened get closed and latched; windows the owner had open go back to open. Lights and fans off, air conditioning off, taps checked, the geyser back to how you found it, wardrobe and cabinet doors closed, and anything you moved put back. Plug back in whatever you unplugged for the machine - a fridge or a router left off for a week is a real and avoidable disaster. Then lock up, confirm the keys are back where they belong, and send the owner a short message saying it is done. It takes five minutes and it is most of your reputation with a seller.
The short answer
Short answer: Two pack-down jobs, ten minutes each. The machine: switch it off as the buyer leaves, leave it upright and idle for a few minutes so oil drains out of the head, cap the bottle firmly or remove and bag it, pack the unit upright in a hard case. Carry the case in the cabin with the air conditioning, never the boot - a parked car's boot in Indian summer heat pushes seals and oxidises the light top notes, so the bottle weeps and the register shifts. The property: close and latch what you opened, restore what the owner had set, switch everything off, plug back in whatever you unplugged, lock up and message the owner. Log the register, setting and run time. Vaayu Rs 11,999, reeds from Rs 749, registers from Rs 299. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.
The pick: the SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) for premises to ~1000m³; reeds from ₹749 for a single room; cabin systems from ₹1,899; HVAC from ₹25,999.

Every customer-facing space hosts two audiences at once: the customer who forms an opinion in a single visit, and the staff who breathe that air for eight hours. Commercial scenting serves both with one move - a single refined fragrance, held evenly from the entrance to the far end of the floor, running on a schedule nobody has to remember. Customers experience it as "this brand has itself together"; the team gets premises that smell composed from opening to close.
The buyer has left. What do I do before I lock up?
Two lists. THE MACHINE. 1. Switch it off as the buyer walks out, not later - there is no value in scenting an empty flat, and if you have another viewing across town in an hour you want the unit cool, settled and packed rather than running in the back of a moving car. 2. Leave it standing upright and idle for a few minutes before you handle it. A SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is a cold-air waterless system with no heating element, so nothing is hot - but there is oil sitting in the atomiser head and the line, and giving it a moment to drain back means it is not the thing that leaks when you tilt the unit into a bag. 3. Cap the bottle properly, or better, take it out of the machine, cap it and carry it separately in a sealed zip bag. 4. Pack the unit upright in a hard case with the bottle upright beside it. THE PROPERTY. 5. Close and latch every window you opened; restore anything the owner had left open or set. 6. Lights, fans, air conditioning off; taps and geyser back as found; wardrobe and cabinet doors closed; anything you moved put back exactly. 7. Plug back in whatever you unplugged to power the machine - a fridge or a router left off for a week is a genuinely expensive mistake and it happens more than anyone admits. 8. Lock up, return the keys, and send the owner a two-line message saying the viewing is done and the flat is secured. AND THEN THE LOG. 9. Note the register, the setting, the run time and anything the buyer said about the flat. Three listings in, that log is the difference between guessing and calibrating. Ten minutes that protect the machine, the oil and the flat
The three parts of a proper pack-down: the machine and the oil, the car, and the property you are handing back to somebody else.
Why this works
The ten-minute pack-down, in order
The commercial standard: the SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 - waterless, app-scheduled, ~1000m³ coverage. Single rooms start on reeds from ₹749.
Switch off at the moment the buyer leaves. There is nothing to be gained by scenting an empty flat, and if a second viewing is booked in a different building in an hour you want the unit packed and stable rather than running loose in a car. Then wait a few minutes before you handle it, which is the step people skip. A Vaayu is a waterless cold-air system at 12V and 5W with no heating element, so there is nothing hot to cool down and no water tank to empty or dry - a real advantage over an ultrasonic when you are moving between properties, because there is no residual water to slosh, no tank to wipe and nothing damp going into a bag. What there is, is a small quantity of concentrated oil sitting in the atomiser head and the delivery line at the end of a run, and if you tilt the unit into a bag immediately, that is what finds its way out. A few minutes standing upright and idle lets it drain back. Then cap the bottle firmly, and if the design allows it, take the bottle out, cap it, and carry it in its own sealed zip bag rather than inside the machine - a bottle that cannot leak into the unit cannot leak out of it. Pack everything upright in a hard case rather than loose in a tote, because the failure mode with a soft bag is always the same: the unit goes in sideways, the case gets stacked under a file folder, and you find out at the next listing.
Tip: a few minutes upright and idle before you touch it - that is the difference between a clean bag and a ruined one.

The car
An Indian car boot in May is the worst storage in your life
This is worth thinking about properly rather than treating as a footnote. A car parked in the sun through an Indian summer afternoon becomes an oven, and the boot is the worst compartment of it: unventilated, dark, insulated and directly against a hot rear panel. Two things happen to concentrated fragrance oil kept there. The first is mechanical. Sustained heat expands the contents and the headspace, which pushes against caps and seals, and a bottle that was closed perfectly well in a cool flat weeps at the thread by the time you open the case. Anyone who has carried a viewing kit for a season has met this at least once, usually across the boot lining of a car they do not own. The second is chemical and quieter. Heat accelerates oxidation, and the lightest, most volatile materials go first - the bergamot in a Ritz-Carlton-inspired register, the citrus in a Four Seasons-inspired one - so a bottle that has spent three summer weeks in a boot no longer smells like the blend you chose. The top has thinned, the base is relatively louder, and the register has drifted somewhere you did not intend. The practical answer costs nothing. Carry the case in the passenger footwell or on the rear seat where the air conditioning reaches it, keep it upright, and do not leave it in a parked car for an afternoon. When you are between listings, the kit comes inside with you. Store the spare bottles at home or in the office, upright, capped, out of direct sun and away from a window.

The property
Reverse everything you changed, including the socket
You have spent ninety minutes altering somebody's property - windows, doors, cupboards, air conditioning, taps, and at least one socket - and the person who owns it is not there to see you put it back. Work backwards through your own set-up sequence rather than glancing around, because a glance misses the two things that actually matter. The first is the socket. To run a mains-powered machine in a flat with three working points, brokers routinely unplug something, and in a vacant listing the something is often a fridge or the router the society uses for the camera. Left unplugged for a week that is a genuinely expensive mistake, and it is the one that ends mandates. Plug it back in and look at the light. The second is the restore rather than the close: windows you opened get shut and latched, but windows the owner had deliberately left ajar for airflow go back to ajar, and a curtain drawn for the light goes back to how the family had it. Then the sweep: lights, fans, air conditioning off, taps checked, geyser as found, wardrobe and cabinet doors closed, bathroom doors as you found them, nothing of yours left behind - and the water you poured down the drains on arrival is the one thing you do not need to undo. Lock up, get the keys back where they belong, and send the owner two lines confirming the viewing happened and the flat is secured. That message costs nothing and does more for your standing with a seller than the fragrance did. Finally, log it: register, setting, run time, and what the buyer said. See the arrival routine for the sequence this one reverses.
Tip: whatever you unplugged to power the machine, plug it back in and check the light - it is the one mistake that costs a mandate.
The SOSA principle
Set-up is the part everyone thinks about. Pack-down is the part that protects the oil, the car and the relationship with the seller - and it is ten minutes.
Off, settled, capped, upright, in the cabin. Then reverse every change you made to somebody else's home, socket included.

The SOSA commercial edit
Whatever your business sells, the system logic is the same: one signature, sized to the space, scheduled so it never depends on anyone's memory. A single small room or a consultation corner can sit happily on reeds with no power at all; a customer-facing floor wants the Vaayu; a venue or a flagship wants HVAC. Every SOSA system is supported from India, and the Hotel Collection blends - SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations - run across the powered ones. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Here is the full commercial range.

Honest notes for business owners: scenting compounds a well-run premises and rescues nothing. Ventilation, air-conditioning and cleaning come first, and fragrance never substitutes for hygiene or air quality - if the air is stale, damp or smoky, fix that at the source before any scent goes in. The people most exposed to the fragrance are not your customers but your STAFF, who work eight-hour shifts in it, which is why whisper calibration and locked settings are standard on every SOSA commercial install, and any staff sensitivity report should be treated as a recalibration signal rather than a complaint. Healthcare and wellness spaces need extra restraint: keep scenting to reception and circulation areas, never treatment rooms, and the practitioner's judgement overrides anything in this guide. The Hotel Collection scents are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations; SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house, not affiliated with or endorsed by any hotel brand. Ultrasonic systems use the water-based Hotel Collection fragrance; the Vaayu and HVAC systems run waterless nebulising oil - the formats are not interchangeable. WhatsApp consult: +91 96192 18531. ISIPCA Versailles
A note from Sonal
I have walked into jewellery showrooms lit like museums, bridal boutiques with hand-embroidered walls, furniture floors styled down to the last cushion, clinics with better art than most galleries - and in almost every one of them, the air was an afterthought. Floor polish, packaging cartons, the phenyl from the morning mopping, the workshop or the loading bay drifting forward. The one thing every customer takes in before they see anything is the thing most businesses leave to chance.
I trained at ISIPCA in Versailles, where the world's scent-marketing perfumers learn the craft, and what I build for Indian businesses is the same architecture the global hospitality brands use, whatever you sell: one signature, sized to the space, run on a schedule - so the scent is as reliable as your lighting. A consultation corner may only need reeds; a full floor needs the Vaayu; a venue needs the HVAC systems. If you want it applied to your specific premises, message us on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 with the type of space and its approximate size - I read those descriptions myself.
Everything is made or assembled for Indian conditions, supported from Pune - and a part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Your brand gets a memory; a girl gets a classroom. That equation has always felt right to me.
Frequently asked questions
I have three viewings today in three different buildings. Do I carry one machine around?
You can, and plenty of brokers do, but be clear-eyed about the friction before you build a day around it. Each property needs its own arrival, its own ventilation, its own settle time and its own forty-five to sixty minutes of run time before the buyer, plus a pack-down at the end and a working socket at each address. That is real time, and stacked three deep across a city it is the thing that quietly stops happening by the second month. For a broker with several active premium listings, the more practical pattern is usually to leave one Vaayu at the listing you show most often and put reed diffusers from Rs 749 in the others, which removes the carrying, the set-up, the pack-down and the oil in the car entirely. It sells less hardware and it is what we would actually advise. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531 and we will look at your portfolio with you.
Should I leave the machine running between two viewings an hour apart at the same property?
No, and running it continuously through a Saturday of back-to-back appointments is one of the more common ways a listing ends up over-scented by the afternoon. Fragrance accumulates in a closed flat, so the four o'clock buyer walks into something considerably stronger than the eleven o'clock buyer did, and nobody in the building can tell because you have all adapted. Switch it off between viewings, open the windows for ten minutes in the gap to reset the flat, close up, and give it a short run before the next arrival. That gives every buyer roughly the same experience and it keeps the level where you set it. It is also less oil for the same result, which is the general shape of good scenting practice.
Do I need to clean the machine between properties?
Not between properties on the same day, and not routinely - a waterless system has no water tank, no residue and nothing wet to dry out, which is precisely why it travels better than an ultrasonic for this job. What is worth doing is a visual check when you pack down: look at the bottle seal and the thread for weeping, check that the base of the case is dry, and confirm the bottle is upright. When you change from one register to another, give it a short run on the new blend before it matters, so the first minutes of a viewing are not the transition. For anything about maintenance intervals, cleaning agents or what to do if the unit behaves oddly, WhatsApp +91 96192 18531 rather than improvising, because a nebulising head is a precision part and the wrong solvent is a costly experiment.
What should be in the viewing kit besides the machine?
Keep it small enough that carrying it never becomes a decision. The machine upright in a hard case; the bottle capped in a sealed bag; a microfibre cloth and a small degreaser for the kitchen platform and the hob; a roll of bin liners so the bin can leave the flat properly; a short extension lead, because the only working socket is never where you want the machine; and a couple of reed diffusers in the boot for listings where you are not staying long enough to run anything. That is genuinely it. A kit that fits in one case gets carried; a kit that needs two trips from the car gets left behind by the third weekend, and a system you do not use is worse value than the cheaper one you would have used.
How long does a bottle of oil last if I only use it at viewings?
We do not publish consumption figures, blend duration or running costs for the Vaayu, and we would rather say so plainly than give you a number that depends on your setting, your run time and the volume of the property. What we can tell you is the storage side, which is what actually determines whether the oil you bought is still the oil you use: keep it upright, capped, at room temperature, out of direct sunlight and out of a parked car. Heat and light are what degrade a fragrance, not time on a shelf in a cupboard. If you want an estimate for your own pattern of use - how many listings, how often, at what setting - WhatsApp +91 96192 18531 with the details and we will talk it through properly rather than guessing on a web page.

Facts verified August 2026: Ambient scent research consistently associates pleasant, congruent scenting with improved evaluations of a space and its service, longer dwell time and stronger brand recall at moderate effect sizes; congruence (scent matching the setting) and gentle intensity outperform strong scenting in replicated studies, and no scent effect survives poor ventilation, poor cleaning or poor indoor air quality. Olfactory memory is unusually durable: scent-linked brand memories persist and retrieve for years, which is the mechanism behind signature scents. Staff exposure is the design constraint, since employees breathe the fragrance for full shifts: whisper calibration, locked settings and sensitivity accommodations are standard practice, and healthcare and wellness settings call for extra restraint. SOSA systems: alcohol-free reed diffusers from ₹749 for single rooms with no power needed; Sukoon 500ml ultrasonic (₹1,899) and Megh 6L ultrasonic (₹3,499) run the water-based Hotel Collection fragrance (from ₹299; refills from ₹999, 100ml ₹999); SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is a waterless cold-air nebulising machine, ~1000m³ coverage, Bluetooth app and timer; SOSA Aangan (₹25,999) and SOSA Meenar (₹38,500) are HVAC nebulising systems for approximately 8,000-10,000 and 12,000-18,000 sq ft respectively. The Hotel Collection scents are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations; SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand.
