There is a difference between a room that smells nice and a home that has a signature, and almost nobody is told what it is. A room that smells nice is an event: you light a candle, you spray something in the hallway before people arrive, it is lovely for forty minutes and then it is gone. Somewhere else in the house a bathroom gel is doing one thing, a kitchen spray another, and a bedroom reed a third. Four pleasant smells in four rooms is not a fragranced home. It is four rooms.
A signature is the opposite. It is one scent, sized to the house, running on a schedule - so it is already in the air when someone walks through your front door, and already there at eleven at night when you come home yourself, and nobody has lifted a finger to make it happen. That is the whole trick the great hotels use, and it is not complicated: they do not chase smells room by room, they hold one fragrance across the volume people actually move through. In a villa that usually means the entrance, the living room and the dining as one connected space, with the closed rooms handled separately and quietly.

How often do we need to entertain for this to be worth Rs 11,999?
Ask a slightly different question, because the honest answer does not turn on the number of parties. If the machine only runs on hosting evenings, then somewhere around a few evenings a month is where it starts making sense against reeds from Rs 749 plus a Megh at Rs 3,499 with the water-based Hotel Collection from Rs 299 in the living room. But that is not where it actually earns its money. It earns it when it runs as the ordinary background of the house on a gentle daily schedule, so the entrance smells the same when you come home on a Tuesday night as it does when forty people arrive on Saturday. That consistency is what makes a home read as having a character rather than as having been prepared for an occasion, and it also means you genuinely do nothing special before people arrive, because the house was never in a different state. So the framing that works is: buy it if you want your house to smell like this every day and hosting to be the easy consequence. If you only want the four evenings a month, the cheaper route is a real option and we would rather say so.
Will one Vaayu be enough for our villa, or do we need two?
Almost certainly one, and the reason is about air rather than budget. If your entrance, living room, dining and passage flow into each other without doors between them, they are one connected body of air and one machine's job, and a second unit a few metres away in that same volume adds very little. In a two-floor villa the stair void usually behaves like a chimney, so warm air carries scent upward on its own if the unit sits low in the connected ground-floor volume near the stair base, which is why a second machine upstairs is usually unnecessary. Do the arithmetic to be sure: floor area times ceiling height gives cubic feet, cubic feet divided by 35.3 gives cubic metres, so a 2,000 sq ft connected ground floor at a 10 ft ceiling is about 566 cubic metres, comfortably inside the Vaayu's approximately 1000 cubic metre rating, while a double-height living room roughly doubles its own contribution. Where a second unit genuinely earns its money is a large upper floor that is effectively a separate connected volume with its own living space. And for every room in a large villa, the Aangan at Rs 25,999 ducted into central air-conditioning is the better answer than multiple machines.
Which of the three blend bundles should a household that entertains choose?
It depends on the kind of evenings you host, and all three come in the box at Rs 11,999. Bundle A is the strongest all-rounder for a house that entertains: Ritz-Carlton-inspired white tea, bergamot and cedar and Westin-inspired white tea, aloe and cedar are the two clean dry registers that survive a warm crowded room and suit everyday running, while St. Regis-inspired amber, violet and woods covers a formal evening and 1 Hotels-inspired cedarwood, vetiver and green leaves is the driest and greenest, which reads very differently from cooking rather than blurring into it. We are not going to publish a number for that, and it is worth explaining why rather than inventing one. There is no standalone waterless refill bottle listed for the Vaayu, so any monthly figure, consumption rate or blend duration we printed would be a specification we cannot stand behind, and it would be wrong in most houses anyway. What genuinely drives it is three things you control: the volume of air you are scenting, how many hours a day your schedule runs, and the intensity setting. A gentle two-hour evening schedule in a connected ground floor and an all-day high setting in a large double-height house are not remotely the same use. Can I use the Rs 299 Hotel Collection bottles in the Vaayu?
No, and this is the single most important thing to get right, because the two formats are not interchangeable. The Vaayu is a waterless cold-air nebulising machine: it runs undiluted oil and has no tank, which is why there is nothing to fill with water, no damp and no mist. The SOSA Hotel Collection at Rs 299 for 15ml is water-based fragrance made for ultrasonic cool-mist machines, which work by vibrating water into a fine mist, and those are the Boond at Rs 899, the Sukoon at Rs 1,899 and the Megh 6L at Rs 3,499. Putting the wrong format into either type of machine is simply not how they work.
