A dealership is not one building for this purpose. It is a customer side and a working side, separated by a door that decides everything, and within the customer side it is four or five rooms with genuinely different jobs. This is the whole picture in one place: which zones are scented and which are not, what goes in each, why extraction always comes before fragrance, and where the harder pages in this section pick up the detail - the ceiling arithmetic, the workshop refusal, the group standard and the register choice.
Quick answers — read this first
Which parts of a car dealership should be scented? The customer side only. That means the showroom floor, the sales and consultation area, the delivery or handover lounge, the service customer lounge once it is properly separated from the bays, and the customer washrooms. What stays unscented: the workshop, any service reception that opens directly onto the bays, the parts store, the preparation and detailing area, and the inside of every customer vehicle without exception. The dividing question is not front versus back of house, it is whether a room needs air added or air removed. Working spaces need extraction and ventilation, and no SOSA product neutralises, removes, filters or purifies exhaust, solvent or oil vapour.
What order should a dealership do this in? Subtraction, separation, then addition. First deal with the sources: bay extraction, extraction over preparation and detailing, and a look at floor cleaning and tyre dressing on the display floor. Second, separate the customer side physically - a self-closing door between lounge and workshop, ideally a vestibule, and air pressure that sends lounge air towards the bays rather than the reverse. Only then choose a register and a machine, size it to the connected customer volume rather than to the whole site, set it at a low locked level and put it on a timer. A dealership that reverses this order ends up with a fragrance sitting on top of a workshop, which reads worse than either smell alone.
What does a dealership actually need to buy? It depends on the connected volume of the customer side, and showroom ceilings make that number larger than the floor area suggests. A SOSA Vaayu at Rs 11,999 is waterless cold-air nebulising rated at approximately 1000 cubic metres with Bluetooth app and timer, and it is the standard answer for a connected showroom floor. Enclosed lounges take a Megh at Rs 3,499 or a Sukoon at Rs 1,899 with a Hotel Collection register from Rs 299. Washrooms and a staff break room take reeds from Rs 749. Genuinely large floors go to multiple zoned units or HVAC - the Aangan at Rs 25,999 or the Meenar at Rs 38,500. Send your plan to +91 96192 18531.
The short answer
Short answer: A zone-by-zone dealership scenting plan. Scented: showroom floor, sales area, delivery lounge, service customer lounge once separated from the bays, customer washrooms. Not scented: workshop, bay-facing service reception, parts store, preparation and detailing area, and the inside of any customer vehicle. Order of work: extraction, then separation by door and pressure, then fragrance. Registers: Ritz-Carlton-inspired or Westin-inspired on the floor, St. Regis-inspired for an evening delivery lounge, from Rs 299. Vaayu Rs 11,999, Megh Rs 3,499, Sukoon Rs 1,899, reeds from Rs 749, HVAC from Rs 25,999. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.
The pick: the SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) for premises to ~1000m³; reeds from ₹749 for a single room; cabin systems from ₹1,899; HVAC from ₹25,999.

Every customer-facing space hosts two audiences at once: the customer who forms an opinion in a single visit, and the staff who breathe that air for eight hours. Commercial scenting serves both with one move - a single refined fragrance, held evenly from the entrance to the far end of the floor, running on a schedule nobody has to remember. Customers experience it as "this brand has itself together"; the team gets premises that smell composed from opening to close.
Zone by zone, what does a luxury car dealership scent and what does it leave alone?
The whole plan in one place. 1. Subtract before anything else. Tailpipe extraction on the bays, extraction over preparation and detailing, a closed door on both, and an honest look at floor cleaner, glass cleaner and tyre dressing on the display floor. Fragrance is a finishing layer on clean moving air and nothing else. 2. Showroom floor - scented. The Ritz-Carlton-inspired blend (white tea, bergamot, cedar) or the Westin-inspired blend (white tea, aloe, cedar) from the Hotel Collection (from ₹299), held below the level a customer would name, so the cars keep their own smell. A SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999, waterless, about 1000m³, app and timer) is the standard machine. Size it by volume, not floor area: see the ceiling height page, because showroom heights move that number hard. 3. Delivery or handover lounge - scented. Smaller, warmer, often evening. The St. Regis-inspired blend (amber, violet, woods) belongs here if anywhere, at a low level, on a Megh (₹3,499) or Sukoon (₹1,899). 4. Service customer lounge - scented, after separation. A door, a vestibule and lounge-positive pressure first. Then the house register at the lowest level in the building, because customers sit there one to three hours. 5. Washrooms and staff break room - reeds from ₹749. No power, nothing to schedule. 6. Workshop, bay-facing service desk, parts store, preparation bay - not scented. Extraction and ventilation. No SOSA product neutralises, removes, filters or purifies exhaust, solvent or oil vapour, and we make no safety claim in either direction. 7. The customer's car - never. SOSA's blends are its own hotel-inspired interpretations; SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531 with your site plan. The dealership, zone by zone
Three passes through the building: the zones that are scented and what each one takes, the zones that are refused and why, and the discipline that keeps the whole thing steady once it is in.
Why this works
The dealership plan, in the order it should be executed
The commercial standard: the SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 - waterless, app-scheduled, ~1000m³ coverage. Single rooms start on reeds from ₹749.
The showroom floor is the largest volume and the shortest dwell: customers move through it, the doors open constantly, and the cars supply most of the smell already. It wants the coolest, driest register in the plan, held below naming level, delivered evenly rather than as a cloud near the entrance - which is what the Vaayu at ₹11,999 is for on a connected floor. The sales and consultation area, usually desks or pods on or beside the floor, needs nothing of its own; it inherits the floor's air, and adding a second source there produces a hotspot exactly where two people sit facing each other for an hour. The delivery or handover lounge is smaller, more enclosed and often used in the evening, and it is the one room where a warmer register is defensible - the register page sets out that choice properly. The service customer lounge is the longest dwell in the building at one to three hours, so it takes the lowest level anywhere on the site, and it only qualifies at all once it has been separated from the bays. Customer washrooms take reeds from ₹749, which need no power and nothing scheduled, and which do not have to match the house register because people mentally grant a washroom separate status.
Tip: the floor is the biggest volume and the shortest visit; the service lounge is the smallest room and the longest - dose them accordingly.
2
The refused zones
Everything on the working side, plus the car itself
The workshop is a manufacturing floor. Engines are run, solvents and degreasers are handled, brake dust is released and tyres are changed, and the people in it work eight-hour shifts. It needs extraction and ventilation, designed by people qualified to design them, and it does not need fragrance. Stated plainly: no SOSA product - reeds, ultrasonic, Vaayu or HVAC - neutralises, removes, filters or purifies exhaust, solvent or oil vapour, and we make no claim in either direction about the safety of that air, because it is not ours to make. A service reception that opens straight onto the bays is holding workshop air and stays out until it is physically separated by a door, a screen and the right pressure relationship. The parts store is a chemical and packaging store and stays out for the same reason. The preparation and detailing bay is the source of the strongest chemical smells in the building and belongs behind an extracted door, not on the display floor. And the firmest line of all: never scent the inside of a customer's vehicle - not in preparation, not at handover, not as a gift in the door pocket, not through the vents. The full reasoning is on the workshop page.
3
The discipline
What keeps it steady after the install week
Three habits, and they are the difference between a dealership that smells right for a fortnight and one that smells right for years. Lock the level and put it on a schedule: on before the doors open so the floor has settled before the first customer, one intensity through trading hours, off after close. The Vaayu's Bluetooth app and timer exist for exactly this, and the point is not convenience but that the setting stops being a dial anyone can reach. Judge the room in the only way that works, which is cold - walk in from outside first thing in the morning, through the customer entrance, and judge the first breath, because by mid-afternoon everyone in the building has adapted and genuinely cannot smell it. That adaptation is the mechanism behind every overscented showroom in the country: someone concludes the machine has stopped and turns it up, three times, over six months. And protect the people who live in it. Your sales team, your reception and your service advisors stand in that air for full shifts, far longer than any customer, so their comfort at six in the evening is the calibration that matters, and any sensitivity report is a signal to come down a setting rather than a conversation about tolerance. If you run more than one site, write all of it down: the group consistency page covers how, including why the same number does not travel between buildings.
Tip: the setting that suits your reception team at six in the evening is the setting that is correct for everybody else.
The SOSA principle
A dealership has a customer side and a working side, and the door between them is the most important scenting decision in the building.
Extraction and separation first. Then one cool register, locked low, across four customer rooms - and nothing at all on the other side of that door, or inside the car.

The SOSA commercial edit
Whatever your business sells, the system logic is the same: one signature, sized to the space, scheduled so it never depends on anyone's memory. A single small room or a consultation corner can sit happily on reeds with no power at all; a customer-facing floor wants the Vaayu; a venue or a flagship wants HVAC. Every SOSA system is supported from India, and the Hotel Collection blends - SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations - run across the powered ones. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Here is the full commercial range.

Honest notes for business owners: scenting compounds a well-run premises and rescues nothing. Ventilation, air-conditioning and cleaning come first, and fragrance never substitutes for hygiene or air quality - if the air is stale, damp or smoky, fix that at the source before any scent goes in. The people most exposed to the fragrance are not your customers but your STAFF, who work eight-hour shifts in it, which is why whisper calibration and locked settings are standard on every SOSA commercial install, and any staff sensitivity report should be treated as a recalibration signal rather than a complaint. Healthcare and wellness spaces need extra restraint: keep scenting to reception and circulation areas, never treatment rooms, and the practitioner's judgement overrides anything in this guide. The Hotel Collection scents are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations; SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house, not affiliated with or endorsed by any hotel brand. Ultrasonic systems use the water-based Hotel Collection fragrance; the Vaayu and HVAC systems run waterless nebulising oil - the formats are not interchangeable. WhatsApp consult: +91 96192 18531. ISIPCA Versailles
A note from Sonal
I have walked into jewellery showrooms lit like museums, bridal boutiques with hand-embroidered walls, furniture floors styled down to the last cushion, clinics with better art than most galleries - and in almost every one of them, the air was an afterthought. Floor polish, packaging cartons, the phenyl from the morning mopping, the workshop or the loading bay drifting forward. The one thing every customer takes in before they see anything is the thing most businesses leave to chance.
I trained at ISIPCA in Versailles, where the world's scent-marketing perfumers learn the craft, and what I build for Indian businesses is the same architecture the global hospitality brands use, whatever you sell: one signature, sized to the space, run on a schedule - so the scent is as reliable as your lighting. A consultation corner may only need reeds; a full floor needs the Vaayu; a venue needs the HVAC systems. If you want it applied to your specific premises, message us on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 with the type of space and its approximate size - I read those descriptions myself.
Everything is made or assembled for Indian conditions, supported from Pune - and a part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Your brand gets a memory; a girl gets a classroom. That equation has always felt right to me.
Frequently asked questions
How much of the site do we actually size the machine for?
The connected customer volume, which is almost always far less than the site area. Measure the rooms that genuinely share air with a customer standing on the showroom floor: the floor itself, the sales area if it is open to it, and any circulation that connects them. Enclosed lounges behind doors are separate volumes and get their own smaller machines. The workshop, the parts store and the preparation bay are not counted at all, because they are never scented. Then do the arithmetic on what is left: floor area in square feet multiplied by finished ceiling height in feet gives cubic feet, divided by 35.3 gives cubic metres, and that is the number to buy against. Showroom ceilings make it larger than instinct suggests, which is why the height page is worth reading before you shortlist anything.
Do we need a different plan for a compact urban showroom?
The zones are the same; the machines get smaller and the workshop question often gets harder. A compact city dealership frequently has the service reception, the customer waiting area and the bays within a few metres of each other, sometimes on different levels of the same shell, which makes separation the dominant problem rather than an afterthought. Deal with that first: a proper door, a vestibule if there is room for one, and the pressure relationship set so customer air moves towards the bays. On the fragrance side, a Megh at Rs 3,499 or even a Sukoon at Rs 1,899 with a register from Rs 299 may be entirely sufficient for a small enclosed floor, and we would rather tell you that than sell you a Vaayu you do not need.
Can one machine cover the showroom and the service lounge together?
Only if they genuinely share air, which they usually should not. The whole architecture of a dealership customer side depends on the service lounge being separated from the workshop by a real door, and a lounge with a real door is a separate volume that a floor machine cannot serve properly - it would arrive as a pulse every time the door opened and fade in between, which is the opposite of what a one to three hour seated wait needs. Give the lounge its own gentler source, calibrated independently and always lower than the floor. In practice that is a Vaayu at Rs 11,999 on the floor and a Megh at Rs 3,499 or a Sukoon at Rs 1,899 in the lounge, which is a smaller total than most dealer principals expect.
Our brand's showroom standards do not mention scent. Are we free to do what we like?
Check before you install rather than after. Manufacturer showroom standards vary a great deal, and some brands have a clear position on ambient scenting including approved suppliers, permitted registers or a preference for an unscented floor, even where the published standards document is silent. Your brand representative is the right person to ask, and the conversation is much easier if you can show a written proposal - register, machine, position, setting and schedule - rather than describing an intention. That documentation is worth producing anyway, because it is the same sheet that keeps a group consistent and the same sheet a new general manager inherits. Nothing on this page overrides your franchise obligations.
Will any of this bring more customers through the door?
No, and we will not suggest it might. Ambient scent research supports improved evaluations of a space and the service delivered in it, longer dwell and stronger recall, at moderate effect sizes, with congruence and gentle intensity outperforming strong scenting. That is a real and worthwhile thing in a building where customers spend an hour at a handover or three hours in a service lounge. It is not a footfall lever, an enquiry lever or a sales lever, and no scent effect survives poor ventilation, poor cleaning or a workshop smell arriving in the waiting room. Fix the building, scent the customer side quietly, hold it every day you are open, and let the sales floor do the selling.

About this guide: Written by Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained founder and perfumer at SOSA Home & Body. Product recommendations reflect the SOSA commercial range; the scent-marketing strategy advice applies to any business's systems.
Facts verified August 2026: Ambient scent research consistently associates pleasant, congruent scenting with improved evaluations of a space and its service, longer dwell time and stronger brand recall at moderate effect sizes; congruence (scent matching the setting) and gentle intensity outperform strong scenting in replicated studies, and no scent effect survives poor ventilation, poor cleaning or poor indoor air quality. Olfactory memory is unusually durable: scent-linked brand memories persist and retrieve for years, which is the mechanism behind signature scents. Staff exposure is the design constraint, since employees breathe the fragrance for full shifts: whisper calibration, locked settings and sensitivity accommodations are standard practice, and healthcare and wellness settings call for extra restraint. SOSA systems: alcohol-free reed diffusers from ₹749 for single rooms with no power needed; Sukoon 500ml ultrasonic (₹1,899) and Megh 6L ultrasonic (₹3,499) run the water-based Hotel Collection fragrance (from ₹299; refills from ₹999, 100ml ₹999); SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is a waterless cold-air nebulising machine, ~1000m³ coverage, Bluetooth app and timer; SOSA Aangan (₹25,999) and SOSA Meenar (₹38,500) are HVAC nebulising systems for approximately 8,000-10,000 and 12,000-18,000 sq ft respectively. The Hotel Collection scents are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations; SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand.
