Two ideas cover every multi-storey home, and everything else in this cluster is a consequence of one or the other.
Quick answers — read this first
What are the key rules for a multi-storey home? A floor is not a unit of air, so count occupied volumes rather than storeys. And a stairwell is a weak link whose direction reverses, so it cannot serve a floor but does mix registers.

How many machines does a multi-storey home need? Usually one, for the floor people actually live on. Two only if two floors each contain a living area people genuinely sit in.

Should the floors have different scents? No. Something moves between floors most of the time, so two registers meet in the stairwell and produce a third nobody chose.
The short answer
Short answer: A floor is not a unit of air, and a stairwell is not a duct. Count occupied volumes and keep one register.
The pick: the SOSA Safar (₹3,999) as the flagship delivery gift; volume gifts from ₹299; reed diffusers from ₹749; the Vaayu (₹11,999) for your own premises.
Planning volumes? WhatsApp +91 96192 18531 - tell us the customer moment, per-unit band and quantity and we will quote and build the programme.
Customer gifting that compounds - the SOSA method at a glanceStep 1 - gift the moment: delivery day, possession, checkout, milestone purchaseStep 2 - set the per-unit band: ₹299 to ₹3,999 by customer valueStep 3 - brand the gesture: your card, your story, our fragranceStep 4 - pilot small, then scale to 50, 100, 500 unitsWhatsApp the bulk desk for volume pricing
A customer gift works when it survives the drive home - sweets vanish in a day and keychains join a drawer, but a fragrance is used daily in the customer's own car or living room, replaying your brand at every use. The method: gift the milestone moment, set the per-unit band by customer value, brand the gesture with your card, pilot and scale. This guide walks the exact play, with real SOSA options at every band.
Straight answer
What is the complete approach for a multi-storey home?
Two ideas cover every multi-storey home. Idea one: a floor is a unit of structure, not a unit of air. Circuits, pipes and ducts are planned per floor because they travel through the building. Fragrance travels through connected air that people occupy, and on that measure a bedroom floor - sealed rooms plus a walkway - is not a unit of anything. So count occupied volumes, and most homes have one, sometimes two, whatever the storey count. Find the floor people actually live on, which in many Indian three-storey houses is the first, not the ground. Run the closed-door walk there: zero doors qualifies the Vaayu at ₹11,999, a compact hall takes a Sukoon at ₹1,799, two or more qualifies nothing. Idea two: a stairwell is a weak, one-way link whose direction reverses with roof heat, air conditioning and open windows. So it cannot serve a floor - raising the lower unit overdoses the floor you stand on, invisibly - but it does mix registers, which means one register everywhere and never a different scent per floor. Two placement consequences: never at the foot of the stairs, which drains the room it opens off; and the entrance source goes at the arrival floor's door. Everything else: bottles from ₹749. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.
Quick answer: a floor is not a unit of air, and a stairwell is not a duct. Count volumes, keep one register.

Floors are not the unit, and the stairwell is not a duct

Every multi-storey home reduces to two ideas, and every specific recommendation in this cluster is a consequence of one or the other. Idea one: a floor is a unit of structure, not a unit of air. Buildings are planned floor by floor for almost everything - circuits, plumbing risers, ducting, lighting, budgets - and that is correct, because all of those travel through the structure along paths that follow the building's geometry. Fragrance does not. It travels through connected air that people occupy, and on that measure a floor is just a horizontal slice that may or may not contain a body of joined air worth serving. Most do not. A typical upper floor is three or four sealed bedrooms, their bathrooms and a landing: no living volume at all, so a machine there has nowhere useful to go, and one placed on the landing scents a walkway strongly while every room around it stays shut. A typical service ground floor in a three-storey Indian house is parking, a utility area, a store and a staircase: no living volume either, and covered parking cannot hold fragrance in any case because the air exchanges continuously with the street. So the counting rule is one machine per occupied volume, and most homes have one, sometimes two, regardless of how many storeys they have. The corollary that catches people out is finding which floor that volume is on. Almost all fragrance advice assumes the ground floor is the living floor, and in a great many Indian three-storey homes it is not: the ground is service, the first is hall, dining and kitchen, the second is bedrooms. If that is your house, the machine belongs on the first floor and so does the entrance source, because the value of a threshold comes from somebody arriving with an unadapted nose into a space people occupy - and that happens at the top of the stairs rather than at the street door. Whether the volume you have found qualifies for the largest machine is settled architecturally: walk that floor at an ordinary hour, changing nothing, and count the closed doors between the living area, the dining area and the stair landing on that level. Zero closed doors qualifies the Vaayu at Rs 11,999 - waterless, so nothing to fill before an evening or empty afterwards, with app and timer control. A compact hall takes a Sukoon at Rs 1,799 and a partly open arrangement a Megh at Rs 3,499 with its 6L tank. Two or more closed doors means that floor is compartmented and no machine qualifies on it at all, in which case bottles serve the house better and that is the recommendation. Idea two: a stairwell is a weak, one-way link whose direction reverses. Air moves through it in response to the temperature difference between floors, which is why an upper landing often smells faintly of the level below with nothing placed there. But the quantity transported is small relative to what upper rooms need, and the direction is not stable: an Indian upper floor is frequently warmer under summer sun, air conditioning on the lower floor makes the lower level cooler still, and an open window changes it again. So the same house behaves differently in May and December. Two consequences follow. The first is that a stairwell cannot serve a floor. Raising the lower unit to feed the upper level overdoses the floor you are standing on - invisibly, because everybody in the house has adapted within about an hour and perceives very little - while delivering almost nothing above. Give each occupied volume its own source. The second is that a stairwell does mix registers, in whichever direction it happens to be running. Two different scents on two floors will meet somewhere in that column and produce a third that nobody chose, and because people move between floors constantly and adaptation does not reset in a flight of stairs, those collisions are what they actually experience. So use one register in every machine and every bottle in the house, kept for years, and vary only the intensity. There is also a placement consequence people rarely hear: never put the machine at the foot of the stairs. A stairwell is a continuous outflow, so a source beside it feeds the opening rather than the room, losing the ground level you paid for and gaining little above. Place it in the body of the living area, several metres from the stair opening, at console or table height and out of the direct throw of an air conditioner. Everything else in the house is answered with bottles, and that is what those rooms need rather than a compromise: one reed per bedroom at the lightest level in the home from a source the occupant can move, cap or take out without asking anybody; one per bathroom, the best value anywhere in home fragrance; one on each landing; and one just inside the arrival door. Consistency of level across floors is not the goal - the floors do different jobs, with arrivals and hosting below and long-dwell private space above - so the correct picture is one register at deliberately different intensities. And the constants hold at every storey count: nothing in children's rooms, nothing in the kitchen at any time with extraction used every single time instead, nothing at the dining table during a meal, and nothing on terraces or covered balconies, which cannot hold fragrance at all.

Why this works
The two ideas
1 A floor is a unit of structure, not a unit of air 2 So count occupied volumes, and most homes have one or two 3 A stairwell is a weak, one-way link whose direction reverses 4 So it carries a register between floors but cannot serve one
The flagship delivery gift: the SOSA Safar at ₹3,999 - a rechargeable waterless car diffuser with three hotel-inspired scents in the box. Per-unit gifts from ₹299; volume pricing on WhatsApp.
01
A floor is not a unit of air
So count occupied volumes instead
Most upper floors are sealed rooms plus a walkway, and most service ground floors hold nothing. Find the floor people actually live on, which is frequently not the ground floor.
Tip: One machine per occupied volume. Usually one.
02
A stairwell is not a duct
Weak, one-way, and it reverses with the season
Roof heat, air conditioning and open windows all change the direction, so the same house behaves differently in May and December. It cannot serve a floor, so give each volume its own source.
03
But it does mix registers
Which is why one register goes everywhere
People move between floors constantly and adaptation does not reset in a flight of stairs, so the collisions are the experience. One family in every machine and bottle, varying only intensity.
Tip: And never place the machine at the foot of the stairs.
The SOSA principle
A stairwell cannot serve a floor, and it will happily mix two registers into a third nobody chose.
Count volumes. Keep one register. Stay away from the stairs.

The complete multi-floor kit

The complete multi-floor kit. Find the floor people actually live on - in many Indian three-storey homes the first rather than the ground, where parking, utility and stores hold no living volume and cannot hold fragrance anyway. Run the closed-door walk on that floor, counting doors between living area, dining and stair landing: zero qualifies the SOSA Vaayu at Rs 11,999 - waterless with no tank to fill or empty, coverage up to 1,000 m², Bluetooth app and timer control; a compact hall takes the SOSA Sukoon at Rs 1,799; a partly open arrangement takes the SOSA Megh at Rs 3,499 with a 6L tank; two or more doors qualifies nothing. Place it in the body of the living area, several metres from the stair opening since a stairwell is a continuous outflow, at console or table height and out of the direct throw of an air conditioner, on one or two longer cycles anchored to arrivals. A second machine only where a second floor contains a living area people genuinely sit in. Everything else, on bottles: one reed diffuser per bedroom at the lightest level in the home from a source the occupant can move, cap or take out without asking anybody; one per bathroom, the best value anywhere in home fragrance; one on each landing; and one just inside the arrival floor's door, with a reed or the SOSA Boond at Rs 799 - Morning Freshness at Rs 749, Garden Bloom at Rs 799, Evening Calm at Rs 799, Fresh Brew at Rs 849, Mountain Breeze at Rs 849, three to four months per bottle, refills at Rs 2,399 for 300ml and Rs 3,499 for 500ml. One register in every machine and every bottle on every floor, kept for years, varying only the intensity - most at the arrival floor, lightest on the bedroom floor - since two registers meeting in the stairwell produce a third nobody chose. Fragrance for machines: Hotel Collection at Rs 299 for 15ml, Rs 999 for 100ml and Rs 1,799 for 300ml - Quiet Luxury in white tea, bergamot and cedar, White Tea Serenity in white tea, aloe and cedar, Forest Suite in cedarwood, vetiver and green leaves - at three to six drops per tank, rinsing between scents. It is a water-based fragrance for ultrasonic diffusers, is not reed diffuser oil, and the two are not interchangeable; reed oil can damage a diffuser. These are SOSA's own interpretations and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with, endorsed by or associated with any hotel brand. Never scented: children's rooms, the kitchen at any time, the dining area during a meal, utility and store areas, covered parking, and terraces and covered balconies. Everything is alcohol-free and made to IFRA-compliant standards.

The SOSA business gifting edit

Whatever your business gifts, the logic is the same: gift the milestone moment, set the per-unit band by customer value, keep the register gentle and crowd-safe, and brand the gesture with your card rather than your logo on the product. Every SOSA fragrance is alcohol-free and made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali - so every customer gift quietly gives twice. Here is the full business range by per-unit band.

Honest notes for business gifters: customer taste varies, so volume programmes should run gentle, crowd-tested registers - fresh, clean and lightly floral scents are received well across every profile, and space formats (diffusers, reeds, car fragrance) avoid the personal-taste risk of skin perfume entirely. Listed prices are per-unit store prices; volume pricing, pilot batches, branded cards and custom hamper builds are quoted on WhatsApp - and signature-scent development for your brand is a consultation with our perfumer, not an off-the-shelf item, so timelines are discussed case by case. The Hotel Collection scents are SOSA's own interpretations inspired by the world's finest hotels; SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house, not affiliated with any hotel brand. Ultrasonic diffusers use the water-based Hotel Collection fragrance; reed diffusers use their own alcohol-free reed oil - the two are not interchangeable. All personal fragrances are alcohol-free and IFRA-compliant. WhatsApp bulk desk: +91 96192 18531. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

A note from Sonal

Most customer gifts are bought to be handed over, not to be kept: the sweet box is finished by the family that evening, the keychain joins a drawer, the branded pen was never really a gift at all. Then the moment that cost your business lakhs to create - the new car, the new home, the big purchase - is remembered with nothing. A fragrance gift keeps that moment alive, because scent is the sense wired closest to memory: months later, your customer is still in the middle of the experience you gave them.

I trained at ISIPCA in Versailles and everything we make is built for Indian lives - car diffusers that survive a Mumbai summer, reed diffusers that hold through the monsoon, alcohol-free formulas safe to gift across every customer profile. If you run a dealership, a project, a hotel, a showroom or a team, message the bulk desk on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 - tell me the customer moment and the volumes, and I will help you design the programme myself. The business conversations are my favourite kind: one good gifting programme teaches me more about a category than a year of retail orders.

And a part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali - so your customer gift quietly gives twice. That equation has always felt right to me.

About this guide: Written by Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained founder and perfumer at SOSA Home & Body. Product recommendations reflect the SOSA range; the customer-gifting advice applies whatever your business finally buys.

Facts verified August 2026: Olfactory memory research shows scent-linked memories are unusually durable and emotionally vivid, which is why a used-daily fragrance gift sustains brand association in a way consumable or novelty gifts do not; customer-experience research consistently finds that peak moments (delivery, possession, checkout) disproportionately shape how the whole purchase is remembered. Fragrance preference is personal: volume gifting programmes should default to gentle fresh, green and lightly floral registers, and to space formats (diffusers, reeds, car fragrance) rather than skin perfume. SOSA range: Hotel Collection ultrasonic fragrance from Rs 299; car perfumes from Rs 449 (spray and hanging, alcohol-free); attars Nawaab, Ameeri, Mastani and Adaa from Rs 379 (3ml/6ml/12ml, alcohol-free); Attar Trio from Rs 1,055; perfumes from Rs 499; reed diffusers from Rs 749; Boond Rs 799, Sukoon Rs 1,799 and Megh Rs 3,499 ultrasonic diffusers; SOSA Safar waterless car and travel diffuser Rs 3,999 (rechargeable, three hotel-inspired scents included); SOSA Vaayu waterless scent machine Rs 11,999 (~1000m³, app + timer).
