The product page says freestanding, lay flat, or wall and HVAC mount, and a broker reading that reasonably asks which one applies to a flat they are selling for somebody else. The technical answer and the professional answer are different, and it is the professional answer that matters. You can mount it. You should not mount it in a property you do not own. Everything that makes a mount attractive in your own office - it disappears, it cannot be knocked over, nobody moves it - becomes a liability in a listing, where the wall belongs to a seller, the duct belongs to a building, and you will be handing the whole thing to a buyer in a few months.
Quick answers — read this first
Can you wall-mount a scent diffuser in a property you are selling? You can physically, and you should not. A SOSA Vaayu at Rs 11,999 supports freestanding installation, laid flat on a console, a shelf or a kitchen platform, as well as a wall or HVAC mount. A wall mount means drilling into somebody else's wall, and in a premium property that wall is often marble, large-format tile, stone cladding, veneered panelling or fresh paint on a just-handed-over flat. Drilling it creates a hole the seller did not agree to, a making-good obligation you now own, and a risk of hitting concealed wiring or plumbing. For a property you are showing, use it freestanding: it stands on a surface, it takes about five minutes to set up and pack down, and it leaves no trace. Mount it only where you control the premises: your own brokerage office, or a developer's permanent sales gallery with their facilities team involved.
Can a broker connect a diffuser to a building's HVAC for a viewing? No, in practice. An HVAC-mounted scenting system is installed into a duct network and distributes one signature through it, which makes it the right answer for a hotel, a showroom, a permanent developer sales gallery or an office you own, and the wrong answer for a listing. In an apartment, the duct is either the owner's equipment or, for central and VRF systems, the building's, which puts a society or facilities approval between you and the work. It is also not portable: an HVAC install stays with the property when it changes hands, and a broker's whole requirement is equipment they can carry to the next listing. SOSA Aangan at Rs 25,999 and SOSA Meenar at Rs 38,500 are HVAC nebulising systems for premises somebody owns and intends to keep.
Do I need the owner's permission to leave a diffuser in a listing? Yes, and get it in writing, even for a freestanding machine that touches nothing. You are leaving an electrical appliance running in a property you do not own, drawing from the owner's supply, on a surface that may be theirs. A short written line in your listing agreement or in an email that the owner replies to is enough: what the device is, where it will stand, that it runs before and during viewings, and that you will remove it. That one email settles the questions that otherwise arise later about consent, electricity, damage and who is responsible if a machine is knocked off a console. Anything that requires drilling, fixing or ducting is a separate conversation and a written approval from the owner, not something to assume.
The short answer
Short answer: A SOSA Vaayu (Rs 11,999) installs freestanding, laid flat on a console, shelf or kitchen platform, or on a wall or HVAC mount. In a property you do not own, use it freestanding. Do not drill into a seller's wall and do not connect into a building's ducting: the wall may be marble, stone, veneer or fresh paint, the making-good obligation becomes yours, central and VRF ducting belongs to the building or society, and a fixed install stays with the property when it changes hands. Mount only where you control the premises: your own brokerage office, or a developer's permanent sales gallery with their facilities team. Get the owner's written permission for anything left in the property, freestanding included, covering what the device is, where it stands, that it runs on their supply and that you will remove it. HVAC systems, SOSA Aangan Rs 25,999 and SOSA Meenar Rs 38,500, are for premises somebody owns. Ultrasonic registers from Rs 299. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.

Every customer-facing space hosts two audiences at once: the customer who forms an opinion in a single visit, and the staff who breathe that air for eight hours. Commercial scenting serves both with one move - a single refined fragrance, held evenly from the entrance to the far end of the floor, running on a schedule nobody has to remember. Customers experience it as "this brand has itself together"; the team gets premises that smell composed from opening to close.
Should I mount a scent machine in a flat I am selling, or just stand it on a surface?
Stand it on a surface, and here is the full reasoning in five steps. 1. Understand what you are choosing between. A SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999, waterless, app and timer, DC 12V 1A at about 5W) supports freestanding installation, laid flat, as well as a wall or HVAC mount. Freestanding is not the compromise option here; it is the option this business runs on, because it is what makes the machine portable between listings. 2. Apply the ownership test. Ask one question before any fixing goes into anything: do I control these premises, and will I still control them in six months? In your own brokerage office the answer is yes and a mount is sensible. In a flat you are selling for a client, the answer is no on both counts, and that settles it. 3. Count what a drill actually costs you. In premium property the walls you would mount to are marble, large-format tile, stone cladding, timber veneer or freshly painted plaster in a just-handed-over flat. A hole in any of those is not a hole, it is a making-good obligation, and it belongs to whoever put it there. Add the risk of concealed conduit and plumbing in a modern slab, and the fact that a snagging list on a new handover is already a live document between owner and developer. 4. Treat HVAC as a different category entirely.SOSA Aangan at ₹25,999 and SOSA Meenar at ₹38,500 are HVAC nebulising systems that install into a duct network. That is exactly right for a hotel, a showroom, a developer's permanent sales gallery or an office you own, and structurally wrong for a listing: the ducting in an apartment with a central or VRF system is the building's, not the seller's, it needs society or facilities approval, and it cannot be taken to your next property. 5. Get consent in writing for whatever you do leave. Even a freestanding machine is an appliance running on somebody else's electricity supply in somebody else's home. One email that the owner replies to, naming the device, the surface it stands on, the hours it runs and your commitment to remove it, closes off every dispute that could otherwise follow. If the owner says no, the honest fallback is reeds from ₹749, which need no power, no fixing and no permission beyond placing them, or ultrasonic registers from ₹299 in a space where the owner already runs a machine. And none of this substitutes for ventilation and cleaning, which come first in every property. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531 if you want to talk through a specific building. Whose wall is it, and who makes good afterwards
Three parts: why freestanding is the broker's install rather than a fallback, what a fixing into someone else's building actually commits you to, and the consent conversation that should happen before any of it.
Why this works
The ownership test, applied before anything goes into a wall
The commercial standard: the SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 - waterless, app-scheduled, ~1000m³ coverage. Single rooms start on reeds from ₹749.
For a broker this is the primary install, not the compromise
It is worth saying clearly that freestanding is not the lesser option in this use case; it is the reason the machine works for brokers at all. A permanently installed scenting system is a building services decision made once, by an owner, for premises they intend to keep. A broker's requirement is the opposite: a machine that arrives in a bag, stands on a surface, runs for two hours before and during a viewing, and leaves with you. A Vaayu laid flat on a console table a few metres inside the entrance, on a kitchen platform, on a window sill or on a shelf does exactly that, and set-up and pack-down are a few minutes at each end. The practical placement rules are the same ones that apply anywhere: put it on the airflow path rather than in a dead corner, keep it off the floor where it collects dust and gets knocked, keep it out of the buyer's sightline, and never put it at the front door where it announces itself. In an empty flat you will sometimes find there is genuinely nowhere to stand it, because there is no furniture at all, and the honest solutions are the kitchen platform, a window sill, a built-in wardrobe shelf or a folding stool you carry with the machine. The one constraint that is not negotiable is power: the Vaayu is mains powered at DC 12V 1A, about 5W, so it needs a working socket in the property. A vacant flat with the electricity supply disconnected will not run one, and no placement decision fixes that.
Tip: a broker's machine has to arrive in a bag and leave in a bag - freestanding is what makes that possible.
2
The fixing
What a hole in somebody else's wall actually commits you to
Consider what you are drilling into in an actual premium listing. The entrance lobby is often stone or large-format tile. The living room feature wall is marble, veneer or a fluted timber panel. A just-handed-over flat is fresh paint on new plaster, with a snagging list still open between the owner and the developer, and the owner will not thank you for adding an item to it. Behind any of those surfaces sits concealed electrical conduit and, near kitchens and bathrooms, concealed plumbing, which in modern Indian apartment construction is not always where the drawings say it is. So a wall mount in a listing carries three separate exposures. First, the physical damage, which is yours to make good in a finish that is often difficult and expensive to match. Second, the consent problem: a fixing is not covered by a general permission to show the property, so doing it without a specific written approval is a decision you would not want to have to explain. Third, and most overlooked, the permanence problem. The machine is fixed, the property sells, and now there is a bracket on a wall in a home that belongs to somebody else, or you are back at the property with a screwdriver during the handover window, which is the single most sensitive fortnight in the whole transaction. There is a fourth for a mount into a shared surface or a common area: an apartment building's lobby, corridor or duct is society property and requires a society approval that a broker will very rarely get for a single listing. Freestanding avoids every one of these, at no cost in performance, because the machine works standing up.
3
Consent
The email that settles four arguments before they happen
Even with nothing fixed to anything, you are leaving an electrical appliance running unattended in a property you do not own, drawing from a supply somebody else pays for, standing on a surface that belongs to a seller. Almost every broker who has done this for a while has had at least one awkward conversation about it. The fix takes two minutes and it is written consent: an email or a clause in the listing agreement that the owner replies to, naming what the device is, where it will stand, that it runs before and during viewings, that it uses their electricity supply at about 5W, and that you will remove it when the property is sold or the mandate ends. That single message settles the consent question, the electricity question, the damage question and the removal question in advance, and it does something else that is quietly valuable: it puts your presentation standard on the record as a service you provide, which is a much better position than having the owner discover a machine on their console during an unannounced visit. If the property is occupied and the owner lives there, the conversation is longer and needs to include their preferences, because they will be breathing it far more than any buyer does. If the owner declines outright, the fallback ladder is real rather than a consolation: reed diffusers from ₹749 need no power, no permission beyond placement and no schedule, and a light, well-ventilated, properly cleaned property with a reed in the entrance still presents well. And none of this ever substitutes for the sequence that comes first in every listing: ventilate, clean, fix the actual source of any smell, and only then scent. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531 if you want the wording we suggest for the consent line.
Tip: one email naming the device, the surface, the hours and the removal closes off every argument a machine in someone else's flat can start.
The SOSA principle
The ownership test decides it in one question. Do I control these premises, and will I still control them in six months? A listing fails both halves, and a fixed install in a property you are selling becomes somebody else's bracket.
Mount in your own office or a developer's permanent gallery. Stand it on a console in a listing, and get the owner's written permission for anything you leave running.

The SOSA commercial edit
Whatever your business sells, the system logic is the same: one signature, sized to the space, scheduled so it never depends on anyone's memory. A single small room or a consultation corner can sit happily on reeds with no power at all; a customer-facing floor wants the Vaayu; a venue or a flagship wants HVAC. Every SOSA system is supported from India, and the Hotel Collection blends - SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations - run across the powered ones. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Here is the full commercial range.

Honest notes for business owners: scenting compounds a well-run premises and rescues nothing. Ventilation, air-conditioning and cleaning come first, and fragrance never substitutes for hygiene or air quality - if the air is stale, damp or smoky, fix that at the source before any scent goes in. The people most exposed to the fragrance are not your customers but your STAFF, who work eight-hour shifts in it, which is why whisper calibration and locked settings are standard on every SOSA commercial install, and any staff sensitivity report should be treated as a recalibration signal rather than a complaint. Healthcare and wellness spaces need extra restraint: keep scenting to reception and circulation areas, never treatment rooms, and the practitioner's judgement overrides anything in this guide. The Hotel Collection scents are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations; SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house, not affiliated with or endorsed by any hotel brand. Ultrasonic systems use the water-based Hotel Collection fragrance; the Vaayu and HVAC systems run waterless nebulising oil - the formats are not interchangeable. WhatsApp consult: +91 96192 18531. ISIPCA Versailles
A note from Sonal
I have walked into jewellery showrooms lit like museums, bridal boutiques with hand-embroidered walls, furniture floors styled down to the last cushion, clinics with better art than most galleries - and in almost every one of them, the air was an afterthought. Floor polish, packaging cartons, the phenyl from the morning mopping, the workshop or the loading bay drifting forward. The one thing every customer takes in before they see anything is the thing most businesses leave to chance.
I trained at ISIPCA in Versailles, where the world's scent-marketing perfumers learn the craft, and what I build for Indian businesses is the same architecture the global hospitality brands use, whatever you sell: one signature, sized to the space, run on a schedule - so the scent is as reliable as your lighting. A consultation corner may only need reeds; a full floor needs the Vaayu; a venue needs the HVAC systems. If you want it applied to your specific premises, message us on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 with the type of space and its approximate size - I read those descriptions myself.
Everything is made or assembled for Indian conditions, supported from Pune - and a part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Your brand gets a memory; a girl gets a classroom. That equation has always felt right to me.
Frequently asked questions
The seller says I can drill if I want to. Should I?
Almost never, and the permission does not change the arithmetic much. A mounted machine is fixed to a property that is about to change hands, which means either it stays behind and you have bought a Rs 11,999 machine for one property, or you return during the handover period with tools to remove it and make good, which is the most sensitive fortnight in the transaction. It also removes the one property that makes the equipment useful to you, which is portability between listings. The narrow case where a mount makes sense with owner permission is a property that will be on the market for a very long time, is vacant, has no surface anywhere to stand a machine on, and where the owner has agreed in writing to the fixing and to what happens to it at handover. That is a rare combination, and a folding stool solves the same problem for a few hundred rupees.
What about a developer's sample flat or sales gallery? Same answer?
No, and this is the genuine exception. A developer's sales gallery or show apartment is a permanent commercial space that the developer controls and intends to run for the length of a project, which passes the ownership test cleanly. There a wall mount is sensible, and for a large gallery an HVAC nebulising system is often the right specification: SOSA Aangan at Rs 25,999 covers approximately 8,000 to 10,000 sq ft, and SOSA Meenar at Rs 38,500 covers approximately 12,000 to 18,000 sq ft. But note whose purchase that is. It is the developer's, made with their facilities or projects team, as part of the fit-out. A broker showing units in that project does not commission it and should not be quoting for it.
Can I connect a diffuser to the air conditioning in an apartment I am showing?
Practically, no. If it is a split system, there is no duct network to scent through in any meaningful sense. If it is a ducted, central or VRF system, the equipment and the ducting belong either to the owner or to the building, an intervention needs an approval you are unlikely to get for a single listing, and any work in a plant room or a shaft is a facilities matter with a paper trail. On top of all that, the system may not even be running: in a vacant flat the AC is usually off, so a duct-based approach would be scenting nothing. A freestanding machine placed on the airflow path, started well before the buyer arrives, does the job without touching the building's services.
If I am not allowed to leave anything at all, is the property unscentable?
Not at all, and it is worth keeping perspective on how much of the result comes from the fragrance in the first place. A property that has been opened up and ventilated, cleaned properly, had its bins emptied and its drains run, and has had a window open for an hour before the appointment already smells better than most listings a buyer sees that weekend. On top of that, a reed diffuser from Rs 749 needs no power, no fixing, no schedule and no socket, and one in the entrance is a legitimate presentation layer in a small flat. The situations where you genuinely need a machine are larger connected volumes and back-to-back viewings, and even then the machine can arrive with you and leave with you rather than living in the property.
Does a freestanding machine perform worse than a mounted one?
For this use case, no. The mount exists to solve problems that belong to permanent installations: keeping a machine out of reach in a public space, keeping it off a surface somebody needs, and making it invisible in premises that run it every day for years. None of those is your problem during a two-hour viewing. What actually governs performance in a listing is placement on the airflow path a few metres inside the entrance rather than in a dead corner, internal doors opened an hour beforehand so the property is one connected volume, and starting early at a low setting rather than late at a high one. Get those three right with the machine standing on a kitchen platform and you will get a better result than a badly placed mount would give you.

Facts verified August 2026: Ambient scent research consistently associates pleasant, congruent scenting with improved evaluations of a space and its service, longer dwell time and stronger brand recall at moderate effect sizes; congruence (scent matching the setting) and gentle intensity outperform strong scenting in replicated studies, and no scent effect survives poor ventilation, poor cleaning or poor indoor air quality. Olfactory memory is unusually durable: scent-linked brand memories persist and retrieve for years, which is the mechanism behind signature scents. Staff exposure is the design constraint, since employees breathe the fragrance for full shifts: whisper calibration, locked settings and sensitivity accommodations are standard practice, and healthcare and wellness settings call for extra restraint.
