Green fresh: Mountain Breeze — Himalayan pine, sage, Indian cedar. 9.4, dry rather than bright, and the choice if citrus feels thin to you.
Clean fresh: Evening Calm — Kashmir lavender and chamomile. 8.9 and the softest in the range, which is the point of it.
The refill is oil only. ₹2,399 for 300ml, ₹3,499 for 500ml. No reeds in the box, and reeds are not sold separately — an honest gap.
2. Colder means Morning Freshness. Malabar lemon over peppermint and Nilgiri eucalyptus, 9.0 on the SOSA scale. It measures below Fresh Brew and Mountain Breeze and still reads louder than either in a humid room, because cold sharp notes cut through damp air rather than sitting in it.
3. Greener means Mountain Breeze. Himalayan pine, sage and Indian cedar at 9.4 — dry, resinous, no sweetness anywhere in it. This is the answer for people who find citrus thin or short-lived and want fresh air rather than fresh fruit.
4. Cleaner means Evening Calm. Kashmir lavender and chamomile at 8.9, the softest thing we make. Fresh here means the absence of anything heavy, not the presence of anything bright.
5. Try the 50ml before you buy the refill. A 50ml is ₹749–₹849 and runs 6–8 weeks — long enough to know whether you still like a scent in week six, which is the only week that matters. A 300ml refill is roughly 8–11 months of the same decision.
6. Know what is in the refill box: oil, and nothing else. You reuse your own glass vessel and your own reeds. We do not sell replacement reeds as a separate product, which is a real gap in our range and one I would rather state here than let you discover on delivery.
7. If fresher means marine, ozonic or linen, we do not make it. There is no aquatic in the SOSA reed range, no oud and no musk-forward scent. Morning Freshness is the nearest thing to a cold clean opening, and it is a citrus-mint, not a sea breeze.

Part one — the three kinds of fresh, and how to tell which one is yours
In a perfumery classroom you are taught early that most of the adjectives customers use are not describing materials at all — they are describing sensations, and several unrelated materials can produce the same sensation. Fresh is the worst offender of the lot. It gets applied to a lemon, to a pine forest, to clean bed linen and to a swimming pool, four things with almost nothing chemically in common. So the useful question is never "which scent is fresher" but "which of the four sensations do you mean, and do we make it." Three of those four we do. One of them we do not, and I will say so before the tables start rather than after.
Mountain Breeze₹849 · 9.4/10A second group of people say fresher and mean something quite different: not colder but drier. They are usually people who have found citrus disappointing — bright for a fortnight, then gone — and what they actually want is the smell of air that has come in from somewhere with trees in it. Mountain Breeze is the answer to that request, at 9.4 on the scale: Himalayan pine over clarifying sage and Indian cedar, with no sweetness at any point in the composition. It is the loudest fresh we make and it holds its position far better than a citrus does, because resinous woody materials are heavier and evaporate more slowly off the reed. In a study, a yoga room or a bedroom it does the job that people imagine a citrus will do and are often let down by.Part two — the three meanings against the three refills
The same table I work through with people on email, with the fourth row included because it is the one I have to say most often. Strength figures are positions on SOSA's own internal scale measured at six reeds in an ordinary Indian room — not a concentration, not an industry standard, and not a ranking of quality.
| What you mean by fresher | The words people use for it | The refill that delivers it | Why it reads that way | 50ml to try first |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Colder ★ | Sharp, zingy, citrus, wakes me up | Morning Freshness · 9.0 | Mint and eucalyptus register as cool air, not just as smell | ₹749 |
| Drier and greener | Outdoorsy, woody, like a hill station | Mountain Breeze · 9.4 | Resinous materials are heavier, so the freshness lasts the bottle | ₹849 |
| Cleaner and quieter | Laundered, soft, not perfumey | Evening Calm · 8.9 | Freshness by subtraction — nothing sweet or heavy in the formula | ₹799 |
| Lighter than what I have now | Less sweet, less rich, less cosy | Move down from Fresh Brew or Garden Bloom | The problem is the character, not the level — swap, do not dilute | ₹749–₹849 |
| Marine, ozonic or like clean linen | Sea breeze, hotel bathroom, rain | We do not make one | There is no aquatic in the reed range — said plainly | — |
| The honest caveat: a refill is oil only. There are no reeds in the box and we do not sell reeds as a separate product — you reuse your own, and our guidance is to refresh them every few months. That matters especially here, because changing scent is exactly the moment old reeds will ghost the new one. If you are switching character rather than topping up the same fragrance, plan on reeds from a fresh 50ml bottle rather than reusing reeds soaked in the scent you are leaving behind. | ||||

Part three — changing scent in a bottle you already own
A refill in the same fragrance is a simple thing: remove the reeds, pour to the neck, return the reeds, flip once so both ends are coated. Changing to a different fragrance in the same vessel is not that, and doing it carelessly produces the single most disappointing result in the category — a bottle that smells of neither scent properly, but of a third thing made from both. The vessel is easy to clean; the reeds are not. A fibre reed that has spent eight weeks drinking Fresh Brew has coffee and vanilla molecules distributed along its whole length, and the moment you stand it in Morning Freshness it begins releasing both. That is what people mean by ghosting, and no amount of washing the reed fixes it, because the reed is not a surface — it is a column.
So the method is: empty the vessel, wash it properly with warm water and a little unscented detergent, rinse thoroughly, and then dry it completely, which usually means overnight upside down rather than ten minutes with a cloth. Water left in a reed bottle will sit under an oil that is not designed to mix with it. Then pour the new oil to the neck and stand fresh reeds in it. Because we do not sell reeds separately, the practical route to fresh reeds is a new 50ml bottle at ₹749–₹849, which arrives with six of them and gives you a second vessel besides. I am aware that reads as convenient for us; it is nevertheless the only honest answer I can give, and it is why I would rather you knew before ordering a refill than after.
There is one more thing worth saying about switching, because it comes up constantly in this cluster. A refill of the same scent will not smell fresher than the bottle did. It is identical oil in identical proportions; what changed over your last eight weeks was your nose, not the fragrance. If a scent has faded for you rather than in the room, the fix is a genuine change of character — cold to green, green to clean — or a rotation between two bottles in different rooms. Buying 300ml of the same composition and expecting it to feel new is the one purchase in this guide I would actively talk you out of.
Part four — what to buy, and in what size
Refill sizes are a commitment decision rather than a fragrance decision, so I have written this table around how certain you are rather than around which scent you want. The per-millilitre figures below are arithmetic on our listed prices, and I have shown the sums rather than rounding them into a marketing claim.
| How certain you are | Buy this | Price and duration | Cost per millilitre | The catch |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Never lived with the scent ★ | A 50ml bottle, six reeds included | ₹749–₹849 · 6–8 weeks | ₹749 ÷ 50 ≈ ₹15/ml | Dearest per millilitre — you are paying for the trial |
| Fairly sure, want a season of it | A 130ml bottle, six reeds included | ₹1,249–₹1,349 · 14–18 weeks | ₹1,249 ÷ 130 ≈ ₹9.6/ml | Longer, not louder — size buys duration only |
| Certain, one vessel to keep going | 300ml oil refill | ₹2,399 · about 8–11 months | ₹2,399 ÷ 300 ≈ ₹8/ml | Oil only — no reeds, and reeds are not sold separately |
| Certain, and scenting more than one room | 500ml oil refill | ₹3,499 · about 14–18 months | ₹3,499 ÷ 500 ≈ ₹7/ml | The cheapest oil we sell, and the longest commitment |
| Torn between cold and green | Fresh & Grounded duo | ₹1,548 / 2 × 50ml · ₹2,548 / 2 × 130ml | ₹1,548 ÷ 100 ≈ ₹15.5/ml | Two vessels, two sets of reeds — they meet on green eucalyptus |
| Want fresh on demand, not constantly | Sukoon with Hotel Collection | ₹1,899 · 270–320 sq ft · 16–18 hrs a fill | Hotel Collection 100ml ₹999 ÷ 100 ≈ ₹10/ml | A different product line — reed oil never goes in it |
Versailles
The first time somebody asked me for something fresher I sent back a product link within the hour, and I got it wrong. She had a rose diffuser in an entrance hall and wanted the room to feel less dressed; I sent her a lemon-mint, which is louder, colder and considerably more insistent than what she had. She was polite about it. What she wanted was quieter and I had sold her sharper, because I had heard one word and assumed I knew which of its three meanings she held.
Since then I ask. It takes one email and it saves people between ₹749 and ₹3,499, depending on the size they were about to order. I have also stopped treating the softest composition in the range as the consolation prize — for a good number of homes, freshness genuinely means less, and Evening Calm at 8.9 is the correct product rather than the timid one.
The gap I cannot close with a question is the aquatic one. A great many people mean sea air, hotel bathroom, clean linen — and there is nothing in the reed range that honestly does that. I would rather write that sentence than stretch a citrus to cover it and watch somebody live with the wrong bottle for eleven months. Everything we make is composed and handmade in small batches in Pune, and a part of every order funds a girl's classroom through Nanhi Kali.
