Most scent machines that end up in the back store were not bad machines. They were bought on a demonstration in a supplier's office and never asked the questions a showroom floor would have asked. Here are the eight, in the order a buyer should ask them, and the honest answer for the machine I sell - including the answers I will only give you directly.
Quick answers — read this first
What should I ask before buying a commercial scent machine for an appliance showroom? Eight things, in this order. Coverage in cubic metres, not square feet, because you scent a volume of air. Whether it is waterless. Whether it has a timer and a key-lock. How loud it is. What mounts it offers. What is in the box. Whether refills are available and from whom. And who services it. A supplier who cannot answer one of those from the product page should say 'confirm with us' rather than guess, and so should SOSA.
How does the SOSA Vaayu answer them? From its product page: rated to 1000m³, about 2,000-3,000 sq ft; waterless cold-air nebuliser, no moisture, no residue; 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, Bluetooth app and onboard buttons, adjustable intensity, auto-stop and key-lock; under 38dB; freestanding or wall and HVAC mount; a 400ml tank running 90+ days a fill, shipped with four 100ml bottles; DC 12V/1A at 5W; CE, RoHS and SGS marks. Refill availability and who services it are confirmed with SOSA directly.
What is the honest recommendation? Run the checklist before you run the ladder. From about 1,500 sq ft of connected floor, one SOSA Vaayu (Rs 11,999). Past about 3,000 sq ft, one SOSA Angaan (Rs 25,999), asked the same eight questions. Under about 750 sq ft, a Mountain Breeze reed (Rs 849) at the desk needs none of them, or a SOSA Sukoon (Rs 1,899) in one room, which fails the water question honestly. Fragrance is an interiors decision like lighting or music; SOSA makes no claim that it changes dwell time, footfall, conversion or sales, and no claim about what it does to any appliance or finish.
The short answer
Short answer: eight questions - coverage in m³, waterless or not, timer and key-lock, noise, mount options, what is in the box, refill availability, who services it - and for anything the product page does not print, the only honest answer is 'confirm with SOSA'.
The pick: from about 1,500 sq ft, one SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999), whose product page answers the first six; past about 3,000 sq ft, one SOSA Angaan (₹25,999), asked the same questions; under about 750 sq ft, a Mountain Breeze reed (₹849) that needs none of them, or a SOSA Sukoon (₹1,899) in one room, which fails the water question and says so.
Next step: send the floor plan and your eight answers so far, and we will fill in the ones only SOSA can - refills, service, terms - in writing before you buy - ask for a showroom scenting plan.
A checklist is only as honest as the answers it forces. The best answer a supplier can give to some of these questions is that they will confirm it in writing.

What should I ask before buying a commercial scent machine for my appliance showroom?
Eight questions, and I will answer each for the machine I sell as I go, including the two where the honest answer is that I will confirm it with you directly rather than print it here. One: what is the coverage in cubic metres? Not square feet. A scent machine fragrances a volume of air, and a square-foot figure silently assumes a ceiling height; an experience centre with a double-height atrium holds twice the air of its footprint. Ask for the m³ rating and do the arithmetic against your own floor and ceiling. The SOSA Vaayu is rated to 1000m³, which the manufacturer describes as about 2,000-3,000 sq ft at an ordinary height; the SOSA Angaan to 3,000m³. Two: is it waterless? An ultrasonic diffuser mists water with fragrance dissolved in it and needs filling and wiping daily; a cold-air nebuliser breaks the oil itself into a dry micro-mist and adds no moisture and no residue. On a floor of steel, glass and screens most owners would rather add nothing, and that is the only product fact SOSA states about merchandise - no claim about what fragrance or humidity does to any appliance or finish. The Vaayu is waterless. The SOSA Sukoon at ₹1,899 is an ultrasonic and fails this question honestly; it belongs in one small room, not on a floor. Three: does it have a timer and a key-lock? The timer is how the machine obeys the rule of this whole cluster - the live kitchen, the hob demonstration and the coffee counter stay unscented while the demonstration runs, the machine is off for the demo and the clearing time after, and extraction clears the room. The lock is how the level the advisor who stands there nine hours a day agreed to stays agreed, because on a shop floor levels drift only upward. The Vaayu has 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, a Bluetooth app and onboard buttons, adjustable intensity, auto-stop and a key-lock. Four: how loud is it? A showroom designed as a home is quiet, and a specification table is a conversation; ask for the decibel figure and ask where it was measured. The Vaayu runs under 38dB; the Angaan under 42dB. Five: what mounts does it offer? The wall matters more than the machine: the source sits inward from the door, high on the wall the AC supply crosses and away from the return, on the reception side of any demo zone, and a machine that only stands on a shelf will end up at the nearest socket to the desk. The Vaayu is freestanding or wall and HVAC mounted; an HVAC mount only on a duct serving the sales floor alone, confirmed by whoever maintains your plant. Six: what is in the box? Ask, because the answer decides your first three months. The Vaayu ships with the machine, its DC 12V/1A supply at 5W, and four 100ml bottles of fragrance - 400ml, one full tank, which runs 90+ days a fill. That is the supply. Seven: are refills available, and from whom? This is the first of the two questions I will not answer on a page. The four bottles in the box are the supply; refill availability is confirmed with SOSA directly, in writing, before you buy, and a supplier who lets you assume an endless supply has not been asked the question. Eight: who services it? The second. Service, terms and anything else not printed on the product page are confirmed with SOSA, and the honest form of that answer is a written one you hold before the purchase, not a verbal one at the demonstration. Two things a checklist should also do. It should send you back a page: if your floor is under about 750 sq ft, a Mountain Breeze reed at ₹849 at the desk needs none of the eight, and whether a machine is worth buying at all is the question before this one. And it should refuse a ninth question that suppliers love and buyers should not ask: what does it return? Fragrance is an interiors decision, like lighting or music. SOSA makes no claim that any machine changes footfall, dwell time, conversion or sales, and a supplier who answers that question with a figure has failed the checklist. It is never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or extraction, which come first. Ask for a showroom scenting plan and I will answer questions seven and eight for your floor, in writing.
Ask eight things: coverage in m³ not sq ft; waterless or not; timer and key-lock; noise; mount options; what is in the box; refill availability; who services it. The Vaayu (Rs 11,999) answers the first six on its page - 1000m³, waterless, timers, lock, under 38dB, wall or HVAC mount, four 100ml bottles. Refills and service: confirm with SOSA, in writing.
One SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 answers six of the eight on its product page - 1000m³, waterless, timers, key-lock, under 38dB, wall or HVAC mount, four 100ml bottles. The other two, ask us in writing.
The two machines a showroom buyer is usually choosing between, with their checklist answers taken from the product pages. The images link to those pages so every answer can be checked at source.
From about 1,500 sq ft - answers six of eight on its page
Coverage: 1000m³, about 2,000-3,000 sq ft. Waterless: yes, cold-air nebuliser, no moisture, no residue. Timer and lock: 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, app and buttons, adjustable intensity, auto-stop, key-lock. Noise: under 38dB. Mounts: freestanding, wall, HVAC. In the box: the machine, DC 12V/1A 5W supply, four 100ml bottles - 400ml, 90+ days a fill. Refills and service: confirm with SOSA. Rs 11,999.
Coverage: 3,000m³, about 8,000-10,000 sq ft. Waterless: yes, HVAC nebulising diffuser. Timer and lock: programmable schedules. Noise: under 42dB. Mounts: HVAC-connected or standalone wall-mount, metal body, 800ml reservoir. In the box, refills and service: confirm with SOSA before purchase, as with any machine. Rs 25,999 - one Angaan rather than two Vaayus in one connected volume of air.
1000m³ coverage (about 2,000-3,000 sq ft) on one unit, Rs 11,999. Waterless. Adjustable intensity, 400ml tank running 90+ days a fill, Bluetooth app and onboard buttons, 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, auto-stop, key-lock, under 38dB, DC 12V/1A 5W. Freestanding or wall and HVAC mount. Four 100ml bottles in the box. CE, RoHS, SGS certified. Made in India.
The eight questions pair naturally into five decisions: the air, the water, the controls, the wall, and the supply. Ask them in this order, because each one can end the conversation before the next begins.
1
Coverage in cubic metres
The first question, because you scent a volume of air and not a floor plan
A square-foot figure is a cubic-metre figure with the ceiling height hidden inside it, and appliance experience centres are exactly the buildings where the hidden number bites: a double-height reception over a flat sales floor, a converted-warehouse unit at five metres, a mezzanine open to the floor below. Ask for the m³ rating and multiply your own area by your own height. The Vaayu is rated to 1000m³ - about 2,000-3,000 sq ft at an ordinary height, less under a tall one; the Angaan to 3,000m³. Then count the volumes: a second floor or a separately air-handled wing is a second volume and a second machine, and never two Vaayus in one connected air. How to calculate scent-machine requirements for a large store is the method; how to scent an appliance showroom with high ceilings is the case where the hidden number matters most.
Test: if the supplier cannot give you a cubic-metre figure, they have not measured their own machine.
2
Waterless or not
The second question, and on an appliance floor the one that ends most conversations
Ask whether the machine mists water. An ultrasonic diffuser does - a tank of water with fragrance dissolved in it, a vibrating plate, a visible plume, a daily fill and wipe - and it belongs in one small room. A cold-air nebuliser pushes air through the fragrance oil and breaks it into a dry micro-mist: no water, no heat, no moisture added, no residue left. That is the one fact about merchandise SOSA will state, and it is a fact about the machine; SOSA makes no claim about what fragrance or humidity does to any appliance, screen, panel or finish, and whether room moisture matters to what you sell is for the brands you carry. The Vaayu is waterless. The Sukoon is an ultrasonic at ₹1,899, and it fails this question honestly and belongs in one enclosed studio room where a daily water routine is owned. Ultrasonic vs commercial machine is the full comparison.
The Vaayu is a waterless cold-air nebuliser - no moisture, no residue, nothing in the air but fragrance.
Questions three and four - the controls a shop floor needs and a home-like floor demands
The timer is the machine's way of obeying the demonstration rule without anyone remembering: the live kitchen, the hob demonstration and the coffee counter stay unscented while the demonstration runs, the machine is off for the demo and the clearing time after, extraction clears the room, and scent returns when the room smells of nothing. Ask for the timer windows and whether there is an app; the Vaayu has 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, Bluetooth and onboard buttons. The key-lock is the control that matters more in retail than anywhere else: on a shop floor levels drift only upward, and the lock holds the level the advisor who stands there nine hours a day agreed to until the named keyholder changes it. Then noise. A showroom designed as a home is quiet, and the specification table is where a designer and a client talk for an hour; ask for the decibel figure. The Vaayu runs under 38dB, the Angaan under 42dB. Whether to switch off during an oven or hob demonstration is what the timer is for.
Rule: a machine without a lock is a machine set by whoever opened the store this morning.
4
Mount options
Question five - because the wall decides the result more than the machine does
Ask what the machine can be fixed to, because a machine that only stands on a shelf will be placed at the nearest socket to the reception desk, and that floor will smell only at reception. The source belongs inward from the door - a street or mall door exchanges threshold air many times an hour and has no fragrance solution - high on the wall the AC supply crosses and away from the return, on the reception side of any demo zone, and never inside a display kitchen or a home-theatre room. A wall mount lets you choose that wall; an HVAC mount puts the source into a duct, and only a duct that serves the sales floor alone, confirmed by whoever maintains your plant. The Vaayu is freestanding or wall and HVAC mounted; the Angaan is HVAC-connected or a standalone wall-mount. Where to place the machine with central AC and why fragrance disappears when the AC runs are the two placement pages a buyer should read before the socket is chosen.
The Angaan mounts to the plant or the wall - one machine for a connected floor past ~3,000 sq ft.
Questions six to eight - the supply, and the two answers only SOSA gives directly
Ask what arrives, because it decides the first quarter. The Vaayu ships with the machine, its DC 12V/1A supply at 5W, and four 100ml bottles - 400ml, one full tank, 90+ days a fill. That is the supply, and I say so plainly. Then the two questions I will not answer on a page. Refill availability: the four bottles are the supply, and whether, when and from whom refills are available is confirmed with SOSA directly, in writing, before you buy. Who services it: service, terms and anything else not printed on the product page are confirmed with SOSA in the same way. A buyer should hold both answers in writing before the purchase, from any supplier, and should treat a supplier who answers either verbally at the demonstration as having not answered. What it costs per month and how much fragrance a centre uses put the arithmetic beside the supply; neither page offers a rupee figure beyond electricity, for the same reason.
Rule: if it is not on the product page, it is 'confirm with SOSA' - never 'probably'.
The SOSA principle
Eight questions decide whether a scent machine is still running in three years - the air, the water, the controls, the wall, the supply - and the two answers a product page cannot give are confirmed in writing or the purchase waits.
Coverage in m³. Waterless. Timer and lock. Noise. Mounts. In the box. Refills. Service. Six on the page; two from SOSA, in writing.
Six answers on the page, two in writing from us: SOSA Vaayu, ₹11,999, 1000m³, waterless, timers and key-lock, under 38dB, wall or HVAC mount, four 100ml bottles in the box.

Eight questions, and where each answer comes from
The question
The honest answer for the SOSA range
1. Coverage in cubic metres?
Vaayu 1000m³ (about 2,000-3,000 sq ft at ordinary height); Angaan 3,000m³. Multiply your area by your ceiling and count the volumes - one machine per connected volume. View →
2. Waterless?
Vaayu and Angaan: yes, cold-air nebulisers, no moisture, no residue. Sukoon: no - an ultrasonic that mists water, for one small room with a daily routine, said plainly. View →
3-4. Timer, key-lock, noise?
Vaayu: 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, app and buttons, adjustable intensity, auto-stop, key-lock, under 38dB. Angaan: programmable schedules, under 42dB. View →
5. Mount options?
Vaayu: freestanding, wall or HVAC. Angaan: HVAC-connected or standalone wall-mount. HVAC only on a duct serving the sales floor alone, confirmed by whoever maintains the plant. View →
6. What is in the box?
Vaayu: the machine, DC 12V/1A 5W supply, four 100ml bottles - 400ml, one full tank, 90+ days a fill. That is the supply. Angaan and other terms: confirm with SOSA before purchase.
7-8. Refills, and who services it?
Confirm with SOSA, in writing, before you buy. The four bottles are the supply; refill availability, service and any term not printed on the product page are confirmed directly and never assumed.
Questions seven and eight, answered in writing for your floor
SOSA Vaayu ₹11,999 answers six of the eight on its page. Send the floor plan and we will confirm refills and service for your purchase directly, before you buy.
A product page should answer six of these. The other two are 'confirm with SOSA', and a buyer who accepts 'probably' for either has bought a machine for the back store.

A note from Sonal
I wrote this checklist against my own machine first, and I want to be honest that it does not answer every question on its product page. Six, yes: the cubic metres, the absence of water, the timers and the lock, the decibels, the mounts, and the four bottles in the box. The two it does not - refills, and who services it - are questions I answer for each buyer directly, in writing, and I would rather tell you that than let a page imply something a page cannot promise.
The question I most want buyers to ask is the first one, because it is the one suppliers most often dodge. Cubic metres. A square-foot figure has a ceiling hidden in it, and appliance experience centres are full of double-height receptions and mezzanines where the hidden number is the whole answer. Ask for the volume, multiply your own area by your own height, count how many volumes of air you actually have, and put one Vaayu in each - or one Angaan in a big one - and never two Vaayus in the same air. The second question, water, is the one that ends most conversations on an appliance floor, and the Sukoon fails it honestly and goes into one small room where it belongs.
There is a ninth question I ask buyers not to ask, and it is the one suppliers most enjoy: what does it return. Fragrance is an interiors decision like lighting or music: no claim that any machine changes footfall, dwell time or sales, no claim about what it does to any appliance or finish, never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or extraction, and the live kitchen and coffee counter stay unscented. A supplier who answers the ninth question with a figure has failed the first eight. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
Frequently asked questions
Why should I ask for a scent machine's coverage in cubic metres rather than square feet?
Because a machine fragrances a volume of air, and a square-foot figure hides the ceiling height inside it. An appliance experience centre with a double-height reception, a mezzanine or a converted-warehouse ceiling holds far more air than its footprint suggests. Ask for the m³ rating - the SOSA Vaayu is 1000m³, the Angaan 3,000m³ - multiply your area by your height, and count the connected volumes; one machine per volume, never two Vaayus in one air.
Which questions about a scent machine can only be answered by confirming with SOSA?
Two of the eight: refill availability, and who services the machine. The four 100ml bottles in the Vaayu box are the supply; whether, when and from whom refills are available is confirmed with SOSA directly and in writing before purchase. Service and any term not printed on the product page are confirmed the same way. A buyer should hold both answers in writing, from any supplier, and treat a verbal answer at a demonstration as no answer.
What exactly comes in the box with a SOSA Vaayu?
The machine, its DC 12V/1A power supply at 5W, and four 100ml bottles of fragrance - 400ml in total, one full tank, which runs 90+ days a fill at a typical setting. That is the supply, and it decides your first quarter. Refill availability beyond those four bottles is confirmed with SOSA before you buy rather than assumed. The Vaayu is a waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³ with 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, a key-lock, adjustable intensity and wall or HVAC mounting.
Does the noise level of a scent machine matter in an appliance showroom?
Yes, and it is the fourth question. A showroom designed as a home is quiet, and the specification table is where a designer and a client talk for an hour; a machine that hums on the wall behind them is noticed before the fragrance is. Ask for the decibel figure and where it was measured. The SOSA Vaayu runs under 38dB and the Angaan under 42dB. A wall or HVAC mount also lets the source sit away from the table, on the wall the AC supply crosses.
Is there a question I should not ask a scent-machine supplier?
One: what does it return. Fragrance in a showroom is an interiors decision like lighting or music, and SOSA makes no claim that any machine changes footfall, dwell time, conversion or sales; a supplier who answers that question with a figure has invented it and has failed the eight questions that matter. Ask instead about the air, the water, the controls, the wall and the supply, and hold the two answers a product page cannot give - refills and service - in writing before you buy.

Facts verified 7 September 2026 against the live SOSA product pages: the SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is a waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³, described by the manufacturer as approximately 2,000-3,000 sq ft, with a 400ml refillable tank lasting 90+ days a fill depending on intensity and run hours, Bluetooth app and onboard button control, 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, adjustable intensity, operation under 38dB, DC 12V/1A at 5W (roughly 1.5 units of electricity a month on a ten-hour daily schedule), freestanding or wall and HVAC mounting, auto-stop and key-lock, and CE, RoHS and SGS certification - electrical and compliance marks. Being waterless, it adds no moisture and leaves no residue on surfaces or displays; the four 100ml bottles in the box are the supply, and refill availability should be confirmed with SOSA. The SOSA Angaan (₹25,999) is an HVAC nebulising diffuser rated to 3,000m³, roughly 8,000-10,000 sq ft, with an 800ml reservoir, metal body, programmable schedules and operation under 42dB; the SOSA Meenar (₹38,500) is the HVAC machine for 12,000-18,000 sq ft. The SOSA Sukoon (₹1,899) is a 500ml water-based ultrasonic diffuser for a single room of roughly 270-320 sq ft. SOSA reed diffusers - Mountain Breeze (₹849 / ₹1,349) and Morning Freshness (₹749 / ₹1,249), or the two together as the Fresh & Grounded duo (₹1,548 / ₹2,548) - are alcohol-free and phthalate-free, with a 50ml bottle lasting 6-8 weeks and a 130ml bottle 14-18 weeks. Ambient fragrance in a showroom is an interior and hospitality decision: SOSA makes no claim that it changes dwell time, footfall, conversion, basket size, sales or any other business number, no claim about what it does to any appliance, surface or finish on display, and it is never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or extraction. Warranty, installation, service and bulk terms are confirmed with SOSA directly. The hotel-inspired scents are SOSA's own original interpretations; SOSA is an independent brand and is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, any hotel or appliance brand named for reference. Coverage, fragrance usage and running cost depend on the space, settings and hours of use, and are confirmed on a consultation. Prices and availability are subject to change - see the live product pages.
