At five bedrooms something genuinely changes, and it is not the bedroom count. A 5BHK in India is almost always on two floors, which means the question stops being how much air is on this level and becomes how air moves between levels. The good news is that the answer is free and it is already built into your house: the staircase. What it will not do is open a bedroom door, and that is where the second layer comes back in.
Quick answers — read this first
What is the best scent machine for a 5BHK villa? One SOSA Vaayu at Rs 11,999 placed low in the connected ground-floor volume near the base of the stairs, plus a reed diffuser from Rs 749 in each of the five bedrooms. A 5BHK villa is commonly 3,500 to 4,500 sq ft across two floors, but the connected volume - ground-floor entrance, living, dining, passage, the stair void and an open landing - typically works out to around 480 cubic metres, well inside the Vaayu's approximately 1000 cubic metres. The machine is waterless cold-air with a Bluetooth app and timer and includes four hotel-inspired waterless blends. Five bedrooms on reeds is Rs 3,745, so the house comes to Rs 15,744.

Does a 5BHK on two floors need a machine on each floor? Usually not, because a stair void behaves like a chimney: warm air rises through it, so a unit placed low on the ground floor near the stair base carries its register up to the landing on its own. What arrives upstairs is gentler than downstairs, which is generally welcome rather than a fault. A second machine becomes genuinely justified only when the stairs are closed off by a door at the top, or when the upper floor has its own sealed family lounge - in other words when there are two separate volumes rather than one. Two machines is Rs 23,998, and at that point the ducted Aangan at Rs 25,999 on central air-conditioning deserves a look instead.

How do I calculate the volume of a two-floor 5BHK? Count the connected air across both floors and nothing else. A ground-floor connected run of 1,300 sq ft at a 10 ft ceiling is 13,000 cubic feet, about 368 cubic metres. An open landing of 200 sq ft adds 2,000 cubic feet, about 57 cubic metres. A stair void with a 100 sq ft footprint rising through 20 ft is 2,000 cubic feet, about another 57 cubic metres. That totals roughly 482 cubic metres, comfortably inside one Vaayu. Everything else in the house - five bedrooms, five bathrooms, the store, the utility - sits behind doors and is not part of that figure at all.
The short answer
Short answer: A 5BHK villa is usually two floors, so the connected volume runs vertically: ground-floor entrance, living, dining and passage (about 368 cubic metres for 1,300 sq ft at 10 ft), the stair void (about 57), and an open landing (about 57) - roughly 482 cubic metres in total, well inside one SOSA Vaayu at Rs 11,999 (waterless, approximately 1000 cubic metres, app and timer, four hotel-inspired blends included). Place it low near the stair base and let convection carry it up. Five bedrooms take reeds from Rs 749, so Rs 15,744 for the house. A second machine only if the stairs are closed off. The pick: the SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999, four hotel-inspired blends included in the box) for the connected living volume of a villa; reeds from ₹749 for a single bedroom or bathroom; a single room done properly from ₹899; the Aangan (₹25,999) ducted into central air-conditioning for genuine whole-home coverage.

A villa is not one room, it is a set of connected volumes and a set of closed doors, and the two need different answers. Whole-home scenting means one fragrance held evenly across the part of the house you actually live in - the entrance, the living room, the dining - running on a schedule so it is already there when someone walks through your front door, and already there when you come home yourself. The bedrooms, the guest bathroom and the study get their own quiet solutions. Nobody in the house has to remember anything.
Straight answer
What does a 5BHK villa need, and does a second floor mean a second machine?
Two floors, one connected volume, one machine in most houses. 1. The volume goes vertical. Add the ground-floor connected run (1,300 sq ft at 10 ft is about 368m³), the stair void (a 100 sq ft footprint rising 20 ft is about 57m³) and an open landing (200 sq ft is about 57m³): roughly 482m³, well inside the SOSA Vaayu's approximately 1000m³ at ₹11,999, with four hotel-inspired waterless blends in the box. 2. The staircase does the vertical work for free. Warm air rises, and a stair void behaves like a chimney - so place the unit low, in the connected ground-floor volume, near the base of the stairs, and the register climbs on its own. What reaches the landing is gentler than downstairs, which is right rather than wrong. 3. Five doors, five small answers. Each bedroom is sealed air: a reed from ₹749 or a Boond ₹899. Five reeds is ₹3,745, so the house is ₹15,744; add five bathrooms and ten rooms is ₹7,490, so ₹19,489. 4. When a second machine is real. Only when the stairs are shut off by a door at the top, or the upper floor has its own closed family lounge - two volumes, not one. Two units is ₹23,998. 5. Past that, the ducted Aangan ₹25,999 on central air-conditioning reaches every room the ducts serve. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531 with your floors and layout. One line: a 5BHK is two floors joined by a stair, so one Vaayu ₹11,999 with four blends in the box placed low at the stair base holds about 482m³ of connected air, and five ₹749 reeds finish the bedrooms. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.

What the fifth bedroom and the second floor change

The three things a fifth bedroom and a second floor actually change.

Why this works at home
A 5BHK, read as two floors of one volume
1Count vertically: ground run, stair void and landing is about 482 cubic metres2Place the machine low near the stair base and let convection climb for you3Five bedrooms on reeds at Rs 749 is Rs 3,745, so the house is Rs 15,7444A second machine only if a door at the top of the stairs seals the floors
The whole-home answer: the SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 - waterless, app-scheduled, ~1000m³, and it arrives with four hotel-inspired blends in the box. A single bedroom or guest bathroom starts on reeds from ₹749.

Change one
A 5BHK's connected volume is a shape, not a floor
Up to four bedrooms most villas can still be read as a plan on paper. At five, the house is usually two storeys and the air stops being flat. The volume you are sizing for is now an L standing on its end: the ground-floor connected run, the void the staircase rises through, and whatever landing at the top is open to that void. Add them at their real dimensions. A ground-floor run of 1,300 sq ft at a 10 ft ceiling is 13,000 cubic feet, about 368m³. A stair void with a 100 sq ft footprint rising through both storeys, say 20 ft, is 2,000 cubic feet, about 57m³. An open landing of 200 sq ft at 10 ft adds another 2,000 cubic feet, about 57m³. That is roughly 482m³ of genuinely connected air against the Vaayu's approximately 1000m³. The house on the sale deed might be 4,500 sq ft, which at a 10 ft ceiling would read as about 1,275m³ - but that shell figure counts five bedrooms and five bathrooms the machine will never enter, so it is the wrong number to shop with.
Tip: in a two-floor house the connected volume is vertical. Measure the stair void; it is doing more work than any room.

Change two
The staircase is a chimney, and it is already paid for
This is the part that saves 5BHK owners ₹11,999. Warm air rises, and a stair void is a vertical shaft with warm air at the bottom of it, so it behaves like a chimney - air moves up through it continuously without anything pushing. Fine airborne fragrance goes wherever that air goes. So a unit placed low in the connected ground-floor volume, near the base of the stairs rather than in a far corner, sends its register up the void on its own and delivers it to the landing above. Low matters more here than anywhere else in this bank: a machine on a high shelf mostly scents the ceiling beside it, while a machine at console height is at the bottom of the convection current where it can be picked up and carried. What arrives upstairs is a gentler version of what is downstairs, and that is the correct outcome rather than a shortfall - a landing outside bedrooms should be softer than the hall where guests are standing. This section only introduces the idea; the physics, the placement detail and the multi-floor edge cases have a section of their own.

Change three
Five doors upstairs, and what they cost
What the staircase cannot do is open a bedroom door, and a 5BHK has five of them plus the bathrooms. Each is a sealed volume - a 250 sq ft bedroom at a 10 ft ceiling is about 71m³ - and each takes its own small quiet answer rather than a share of the machine. Five reeds at ₹749 is ₹3,745, so the whole house is ₹15,744. Cover five bathrooms as well and ten rooms at ₹749 is ₹7,490, so the complete 5BHK is ₹19,489 - still well under two machines at ₹23,998, and unlike two machines it actually reaches the rooms it is buying for. Vary the register within one family: Morning Freshness ₹749, Garden Bloom ₹799, Evening Calm ₹799, Mountain Breeze ₹849, Fresh Brew ₹849, with 130ml from ₹1,249 for a larger room and duo sets at ₹1,498, ₹1,548 and ₹1,598. A Boond ₹899 or Sukoon ₹1,899 with the water-based Hotel Collection ₹299 is the step up for a guest suite you want to prepare deliberately.
Tip: a staircase carries fragrance to the landing for nothing. The five doors off it still cost ₹749 each.
The SOSA principle
A 5BHK is not two houses. It is one connected volume standing on its end - and the staircase in the middle of it is the distribution system you already own.
Place low at the stair base, let convection do the climbing, and give each of the five doors its own quiet answer.

The SOSA home edit

Whatever the house looks like, the logic is the same: one scent, sized to the volume that is genuinely connected, running on a schedule so nobody in the family has to remember it. A single bedroom or a guest bathroom is happy on reeds with no power at all; the living room you actually live in wants a machine; the whole villa with central air-conditioning wants the ducts doing the work. Every SOSA system is made in India, cruelty-free and vegan, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Here is where each one belongs.

Honest notes before you buy anything. Coverage ratings assume connected air volume. A machine cannot push scent through a closed bedroom door, and it never will - so a partitioned villa is not one scenting problem but several, and honest sizing means saying so out loud rather than selling you one machine and hoping. Scent the volume that is genuinely open to itself, then give the closed rooms their own quiet answer, usually a reed diffuser. Fragrance never substitutes for ventilation or cleaning. If a room smells damp, stale or of last night's cooking, open it, air it and clean it first; scent added on top of that only makes a more complicated bad smell. A home is not a lobby you pass through. Households include children, elderly parents, pregnant family members and pets, all of whom breathe this air far longer than any visitor does, which is why gentle dosing is the default at home and why the settings we suggest are lower than the machine can run. Anyone in the house reporting a headache is a recalibration signal, not a complaint to argue with - turn it down or turn it off, and tell us. The Vaayu runs waterless nebulising oil and comes with the four hotel-inspired blends; the Hotel Collection bottle is water-based and belongs in the ultrasonic machines only. The two formats are not interchangeable. SOSA blends are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations; SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house, not affiliated with or endorsed by any hotel brand. ISIPCA
Versailles
A note from Sonal

There is a difference between a room that smells nice and a home that has a signature, and almost nobody is told what it is. A room that smells nice is an event: you light a candle, you spray something in the hallway before people arrive, it is lovely for forty minutes and then it is gone. Somewhere else in the house a bathroom gel is doing one thing, a kitchen spray another, and a bedroom reed a third. Four pleasant smells in four rooms is not a fragranced home. It is four rooms.

A signature is the opposite. It is one scent, sized to the house, running on a schedule - so it is already in the air when someone walks through your front door, and already there at eleven at night when you come home yourself, and nobody has lifted a finger to make it happen. That is the whole trick the great hotels use, and it is not complicated: they do not chase smells room by room, they hold one fragrance across the volume people actually move through. In a villa that usually means the entrance, the living room and the dining as one connected space, with the closed rooms handled separately and quietly.

I trained at ISIPCA in Versailles and I have sized this for houses across India, and I would rather tell you honestly that your layout needs two answers than sell you one machine that disappoints you. Message us on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 with your home's approximate size, the number of floors and a line about the layout - open plan, closed rooms, central air-conditioning or split units - and we will give you a free sizing recommendation. I read those descriptions myself. Everything is made in India, cruelty-free and vegan, and a part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Your home gets a memory; a girl gets a classroom.

Frequently asked questions

Our 5BHK is 4,500 sq ft. Surely that is past one machine?
The shell figure says so and the connected figure does not. At a 10 ft ceiling, 4,500 sq ft is about 1,275 cubic metres, which is indeed past the Vaayu's approximately 1000 cubic metres - but that number counts five bedrooms, five bathrooms, a store and a utility, all of which sit behind doors that no machine crosses. Measure what is genuinely connected and a house that size usually gives you a ground-floor run of about 1,300 sq ft, a stair void and an open landing, which comes to roughly 482 cubic metres in total. That is less than half the rating, and the margin is what lets you run the unit gently in a house where a family lives for hours at a time. If your particular 4,500 sq ft has an unusually large open ground floor or double-height volumes, send us the dimensions and we will do the arithmetic with you rather than guessing.
What if the staircase is enclosed rather than an open void?
Then you have two volumes rather than one, and the honest answer changes. An enclosed stair with a door at the top removes the chimney entirely - there is no continuous convection current between the floors, so a ground-floor machine holds the ground floor and nothing above it. Three options in that case. If the upper floor has a genuinely used connected space, such as a family lounge or an open landing sitting area, a second unit at Rs 11,999 has a real volume to serve and earns its price. If the upper floor is only bedrooms and a corridor, do not buy a machine for a corridor - put reeds at Rs 749 in the rooms, which is what you would be doing anyway. And if you want every room upstairs scented regardless of doors and the house runs on central air-conditioning, the ducted Aangan at Rs 25,999 is the route that actually delivers it.
Will the fragrance be weaker upstairs, and is that a problem?
It will be gentler, and it is usually exactly right. The landing at the top of an open stair receives a diluted version of the ground-floor register, because the air has travelled and mixed on the way up. That suits the space: a landing outside bedrooms is a quiet transitional area, not a place where you want the same presence as a hall that guests are standing in. Where it stops being enough is inside the bedrooms themselves, and no amount of extra intensity downstairs fixes that, because it is a closed door rather than a distance problem. So the pattern is a gentle upstairs by design plus a reed at Rs 749 in each bedroom. If the landing genuinely gets nothing at all, look at the placement of the unit relative to the stair base and at whether an air-conditioning draught is pulling everything the other way.
Do we need something on the landing itself in a 5BHK?
Usually not, and that is worth a moment of restraint. The landing is part of your connected volume, so the machine downstairs is already serving it through the stair void, and adding a reed or a second unit there produces a strong band in the middle of a house that is otherwise even. The exception is a large first-floor landing that has been furnished as a sitting area, a reading corner or a children's play space and is genuinely used as a room - if people spend time there rather than passing through, and if it feels thin, a single reed at Rs 749 in the same register family is a reasonable addition. Judge it by walking upstairs after being out of the house for a few hours, when your nose is fresh, rather than by standing on the landing all evening and deciding it has faded.
Our 5BHK has a servant room and a store behind the kitchen. What about those?
Treat them as ordinary sealed rooms and as ordinary sources, in that order. A store and a utility area are exactly where stale air, damp cartons, old linen and forgotten cleaning materials accumulate, and that is a ventilation and clearing job rather than a scenting one - open them, clear them, let them air, and check for a dry drain trap if there is a floor drain. Once they are genuinely neutral, they are just closed rooms: a reed at Rs 749 is enough if you want anything at all, and many households do not. A room where someone actually lives should be asked about rather than decided for, at a gentle level, with the option to remove it entirely. Scenting a room over a damp or storage problem always produces a worse hybrid than either smell alone, and everybody who opens the door can tell.
The moment someone walks through your front door

SOSA Aangan (₹25,999) and SOSA Meenar (₹38,500) are HVAC nebulising systems for approximately 8,000-10,000 sq ft and 12,000-18,000 sq ft respectively, ducted into central air-conditioning. Reed diffusers need no power and make no noise: Morning Freshness ₹749, Garden Bloom ₹799, Evening Calm ₹799, Mountain Breeze ₹849, Fresh Brew ₹849; 130ml from ₹1,249; duo sets ₹1,498, ₹1,548 and ₹1,598. Scent perception is personal and varies between people in the same room, and coverage figures assume connected air volume rather than a partitioned floor plan. Ventilation, cleaning and air-conditioning come first; fragrance is an addition to a well-kept home and never a substitute for any of them. SOSA blends are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations; SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to any hotel brand. Made in India, cruelty-free and vegan. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Ongoing fragrance supply is arranged with SOSA on WhatsApp: +91 96192 18531.
