SOSA commercial scenting
A new building has no memory attached to it yet - which is the opportunity, and the trap

What we answer
"Sales gallery opening while construction continues on the same site."
Dust, paint and new-material odour come first. Fragrance over curing paint is a cover-up
Construction phase
What we specify
"Double-height experience centre with a full glass facade facing west."
Height and afternoon solar gain both change the job; measure volume, not floor plate
New-build volume
What we answer
"Developer asks whether scenting should be in the HVAC drawings."
If the building will be scented at all, yes - retrofitting around a finished ceiling is the expensive route
Design stage
What we specify
"Sales gallery and the sample apartment next door."
Different jobs. The gallery is a brand space; the sample flat should smell like a home, or like nothing
Two spaces
What we specify
"New brand with no existing customer memory to build on."
Then consistency from day one matters more than distinctiveness - pick something you can hold for years

By keeping the site out rather than by covering it up. Positive pressure, filtration and door discipline do more for an experience centre next to live construction than any machine, and they make the machine work afterwards.
Quick answers — read this first
How should an experience centre be scented during nearby construction? By first keeping construction air out: run the centre at slight positive pressure, fit and maintain adequate filtration, use a vestibule or air-lock entrance, and control door discipline. Only then does ambient fragrance behave predictably.

Can fragrance cover construction dust? No. Dust is particulate and fragrance is vapour - they do not cancel, and visitors perceive both. A centre that smells of site work and fragrance reads worse than one that smells only of site work.

What is the biggest practical measure? A vestibule or air-lock entrance with self-closing doors, combined with slight positive pressure inside. That single combination keeps most of the site out. A SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 then behaves normally inside it.
The short answer
Short answer: Positive pressure, filtration and an air-lock entrance first. Fragrance cannot cover dust, and a sealed centre needs far less of it.
The pick: the SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 for a contained gallery or reception, the Aangan at ₹25,999 where scenting rides the building's own HVAC, on Hotel Collection fragrance from ₹299.
Sizing? WhatsApp +91 96192 18531 with your drawings, ceiling heights, glazing, HVAC design and opening date - remote sizing from your own measurements, no site visit needed outside Pune.
How SOSA sizes a commercial space - the order that actually worksStep 1 - find the source: solvents, sanitiser, footwear, drains, AC filters, stale airStep 2 - draw the air volume, not the floor plan: doors and partitions divide itStep 3 - decide which zones stay unscented, and write that downStep 4 - set intensity low and schedule it around your peakStep 5 - re-check after two weeks, then leave it alone
Commercial scenting goes wrong in a predictable order: somebody buys a machine to cover a smell that has a source, puts it where the socket is, runs it at full intensity because day one felt weak, and ends up with a room people comment on for the wrong reason. Source first, air volume second, unscented zones written down third, low intensity and a schedule fourth. This guide walks that sequence, with the real SOSA machine range at each size.
Straight answer
How should a developer scent an experience centre while construction continues nearby?
By treating it as an air-ingress problem first. Construction next door produces dust, exhaust and the smell of wet concrete, cutting and solvents, and none of that is cancelled by fragrance - dust is particulate and fragrance is vapour; a visitor perceives both, and the combination reads worse than the site smell alone. So keep the site out. One: positive pressure. A centre running slightly positive pushes air outward through gaps and door openings rather than drawing site air in. This is a ventilation-balance adjustment and it is the single most effective measure available. Two: filtration. Adequate filters on the fresh-air intake, checked and changed far more often than a normal building would need - a filter next to live construction loads quickly and a loaded filter changes how the whole centre smells. Three: an air-lock entrance. A vestibule with two sets of self-closing doors prevents a direct connection every time somebody enters, which in a busy gallery is constantly. Four: door discipline, including the service and back doors that face the site and are propped open in hot weather. Five: timing. Where you can influence it, the noisiest and dustiest site activities should not coincide with viewing appointments. Once the centre is genuinely sealed it behaves like any other contained building, and a SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 at a low setting on Hotel Collection fragrance from ₹299 works normally in it. Until then, a machine is the wrong purchase, and fragrance is an ambience decision that is never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or source control. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
One line: positive pressure, filtration, an air-lock entrance and door discipline - a sealed centre needs very little fragrance.
Once the centre is genuinely sealed against the site, the scenting is ordinary: a SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 at a low setting, fragrance from ₹299. Before that, the money belongs in filters and a vestibule, and we would rather you spent it there.

Keep the site out, then worry about the air inside

Every measure that makes an experience centre pleasant next to a building site is a ventilation measure, which is worth knowing before anybody quotes for a machine.

Why this works
Sealing a centre against a live site
1 Run the centre at slight positive pressure so air moves outward 2 Filter the fresh-air intake, and change filters far more often than normal 3 Fit a vestibule or air-lock entrance with two sets of self-closing doors 4 Enforce door discipline, including service doors facing the site
For a new gallery the usual specification is a SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999, or an Aangan at ₹25,999 where it is designed into the HVAC at fit-out stage. Fragrance from ₹299 - introduced once the building has finished off-gassing.
01
Why fragrance cannot do this
Dust and vapour are different problems
Construction dust is particulate; it settles on surfaces, is carried on clothing, and is perceived partly as a dry, mineral quality in the air. Fragrance is vapour, and it sits alongside rather than removing. A visitor in a centre with both perceives both, and because one of them is obviously an addition, they conclude the addition is there to cover the other. In a sales environment where visitors are already alert for what is being managed, that is a poor impression to create.
Tip: Visitors conclude the fragrance is there to cover the dust.
02
The measure that works
Pressure plus an air lock
Slight positive pressure inside the centre means every gap and every door opening pushes air out rather than pulling site air in. Add a vestibule with two sets of self-closing doors and you break the direct connection to the outside that a single door creates each time somebody walks through. Together these two measures do more than everything else combined, and both are ordinary building-services adjustments rather than specialist work. They also reduce cooling load, which matters through an Amaravati summer.
03
The forgotten doors
Service entrances facing the site
Front-of-house door discipline is usually good in a sales gallery and back-of-house is usually not. A service or staff door facing the construction side, propped open on a hot afternoon, undoes the pressure regime entirely and lets site air in through the back. Check it, include it in the operating instructions, and fit a self-closer. The same applies to any window opened for a quick cross-breeze during a power interruption, which is exactly when the centre is most vulnerable.
Tip: Check the back door. It is the one that is propped open.
The SOSA principle
You cannot cover a building site with a fragrance. You can only keep it outside the building.
And a centre that is properly sealed turns out to need very little fragrance at all.

What the centre can carry once it is sealed

Once the centre is sealed, keep the register clean and dry - a visitor arriving from a dusty site road responds to something that reads as clean rather than as luxurious.

The SOSA scent edit
For an experience centre beside live construction
Scent Why it suits the mood
Positive pressure The single most effective measure - air moves outward through every gap
Filtration Adequate intake filters, changed far more often than a normal building
Air-lock entrance A vestibule with two sets of self-closing doors, front and service
Then fragrance A low setting in a sealed centre - never a machine fighting an open building

Why new-build odours specifically have to be resolved rather than covered is in the construction odour chapter, the design-stage provisions are in the new premises chapter, and whether the gallery and sample flat should match is in the sample apartment chapter.

The SOSA commercial range

Whatever the space, the method is the same: find the source of any smell and fix it, draw the air volume rather than the floor plan, write down which zones stay unscented, then set a low intensity and a schedule. Every SOSA fragrance is alcohol-free and made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Here is the range by the size of space it is honestly built for.

The SOSA commercial range

SOSA Meenar Hotels, large showrooms, venues, corporate floors The largest machine in the range, specified for roughly 12,000 to 18,000 sq ft ₹38,500
Hotel Collection fragrance The fragrance the machines actually run on Seven scents, 15ml / 100ml / 300ml. SOSA's own interpretations; SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand from ₹299
Honest notes for new commercial spaces: fragrance is an ambience decision only and is never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or source control. Construction dust, curing paint, adhesives and new-material off-gassing are resolved by ventilation and time, not by fragrance - introducing a scent over them masks a condition rather than finishing it, and visitors generally recognise the difference. Ceiling height and glazing change the air volume and the thermal behaviour of a new building substantially, so sizing is done from drawings and measurements rather than floor area. SOSA makes no claim that scenting influences sales or enquiry conversion. Ultrasonic diffusers and the machines run on the Hotel Collection fragrance; reed diffusers use their own alcohol-free reed oil, and the two are not interchangeable. The Hotel Collection scents are SOSA's own interpretations inspired by the world's finest hotels; SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or associated with any hotel brand. SOSA's fragrances are made in India; the scent machines are imported. Listed prices are store prices and are subject to change. SOSA's paid on-site walkthrough is ₹1,500 and is Pune only - everywhere else, including Vijayawada, Guntur and the Amaravati region, sizing is done remotely over WhatsApp from your own measurements. A note from Sonal

New buildings are the only case where I tell people to think about scent before the fit-out rather than after, and it is a practical point rather than a romantic one: if a building is going to be scented at all, that belongs in the HVAC conversation while the ceiling is still open. Retrofitting around finished plaster is how a simple decision becomes an expensive one.

But there is a trap in new construction, and it is the one I see most in fast-building regions. A new space smells of itself - curing paint, adhesives, new textiles, site dust drifting in. Putting fragrance on top of that is not scenting, it is masking, and visitors read it accurately. Let the building finish off-gassing, ventilate properly, then introduce a scent you intend to keep.

Fragrance is an ambience decision and never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or source control.
