Why a duplex costs about what a flat of the same size costs
The intuition is that two floors must cost more than one, and it is wrong for a reason worth understanding. A duplex does levy a genuine surcharge downstairs: the stairwell draws warm air upward all day and takes fragrance with it, so the ground floor is running a permanent deficit and needs one machine more than its area alone would suggest. Call it the stairwell tax — about ₹1,899. But the same physics pays you back on the floor above. Every upstairs room is receiving that exported scent as a free background layer, which is why a second or third bedroom that stays open onto the landing usually needs no machine at all. One extra downstairs, one fewer upstairs. The two cancel, and a 2,000 sq ft duplex ends up costing roughly what a 2,000 sq ft flat costs.
What actually drives the number, in a duplex as in any home, is how many closed doors you want to smell of something. Fragrance does not pass through a shut door, so each one is a separate purchase decision at ₹1,899. A four-bedroom duplex where every bedroom door stays shut all day is a six-machine house at ₹11,394. The same building with two bedrooms in use and the rest open to the landing is a four-machine house at ₹7,596. Nothing about the square footage changed. This is why I ask people how they live rather than how large the property is — the honest budget follows from the answer, and it is usually smaller than the one they arrived with.

Running cost, worked out per month
Start with the price of fragrance. A 15ml is ₹299, a 100ml refill is ₹999 and a 300ml is ₹1,799 — the last of which works out at around ₹6 per millilitre, roughly a third of the small-bottle price. Because each Sukoon arrives with three 15ml bottles, a four-machine duplex begins with twelve of them and does not need to buy anything for a while. When it does, the 300ml is the sensible unit for a house with several machines and the 100ml is right if you are still deciding between scents.
Then the rate you use it at. Three to four drops per tank downstairs and two to three upstairs is the guidance, and the honest variable is how long you run the machines rather than how much you put in them. A household running the ground floor on a two-hour timer in the evening and the bedrooms for an hour before sleep will get through fragrance slowly. A household leaving four machines on all day, which the 16-to-18 hour tank makes tempting, will get through it fast and — more to the point — will stop noticing the scent entirely, which is the worst return on the money.
The monthly arithmetic, then. If a four-machine duplex uses two 300ml bottles in a year, that is ₹3,598, which is a little under ₹300 a month for the whole house. Even at four bottles a year it is ₹7,196, or about ₹600 a month across two floors and four rooms. Set against a one-time ₹7,596 of hardware that should last years, the running cost is the small half of this budget, and it is the half you can control precisely by adjusting drops and timers rather than by buying anything different.

I have a rule about quoting for a two-floor house: I ask how many bedroom doors are shut at three in the afternoon. The answer predicts the budget better than the floor plan does, and it is usually a smaller number than the one on the property listing.
The reason people over-budget for a duplex is that they count floors. Floors are not the unit — closed doors are, and a duplex tends to have fewer genuinely sealed rooms in daily use than a flat of the same area, because so much of the upper floor sits open onto a landing that is already being scented from downstairs for nothing. The staircase costs you one machine on the ground floor and hands one back on the first. It is the only tax I know of that refunds itself.
