Everything in this cluster, arranged as a calendar. Twelve months from a store with no system to a store with a signature, a baseline, a maintained routine and a real answer about whether it is working.
Quick answers — read this first
What does a twelve-month jewellery store fragrance plan look like? Month zero: baseline four metrics for two weeks, fix any physical odour source, and choose a congruent register. Month one: install, calibrate with an unadapted nose, document the specification and brief the team. Months two to eleven: monthly walk-throughs, seasonal adjustments, scheduled refills. Month twelve: compare against the baseline and hold the register.

What should be done before installing a scenting system? Baseline the four metrics that will later be compared - consultation completion, discount depth, return share and review language - fix any physical odour source at its cause, and choose the register against a written congruence brief with outside noses.

When can a jewellery store tell whether scenting is working? Two of the four metrics move within a quarter and two run on the occasion cycle, so a real assessment takes twelve months compared against a proper pre-installation baseline. Judging at six weeks produces a null result regardless of whether the system is working.
The short answer
Short answer: month zero: baseline four metrics for two weeks, fix physical sources, choose the register. Month one: install, calibrate from outside, document, brief the team. Months two to eleven: monthly walk, seasonal adjustment, scheduled refills. Month twelve: compare against baseline and hold the register. Vaayu Rs 11,999; WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.
The pick: the SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) for showrooms to ~1000m³; small-store systems from ₹1,799; HVAC from ₹25,999.

A jewellery purchase is one of the most emotional transactions in Indian retail - trust, celebration and aspiration in one visit. Scent marketing gives that visit a signature: one refined fragrance, held evenly across the showroom, running on a schedule no staff member has to remember. Customers experience it as "this store feels premium" - the exact feeling that precedes a high-value purchase.
Straight answer
What does the first year actually look like?
Twelve months, in five phases. Month zero - before anything is bought. Three tasks. Baseline: log four metrics for two weeks - consultation completion rate, average discount depth against making charges, return share, and how often atmosphere appears in public reviews. Without this there is nothing to compare against later, and this is the most common reason stores conclude scenting is unmeasurable. Fix physical sources: walk the eight usual places - display backs on external walls, storage, washroom venting, drainage, junctions, drip trays, closed rooms, packaging stock - and resolve anything found, because fragrance finishes clean air and never covers. Choose the register: write a congruence brief, test candidates in the actual space with outside noses, ask whether each fits the store rather than whether anybody likes it. Month one - install and calibrate. A Vaayu (₹11,999) sized against cubic volume, a Sukoon (₹1,799) or Boond (₹799) in every enclosed room including billing. Set the level from outside, along the customer path and from a consultation chair. Write the specification down. Brief the team on the four rules. Name one owner. Months two to eleven - run it. Weekly glance. Monthly walk-through with the nose reset. Quarterly settings review against the season - down slightly in monsoon, a small lift for festival crowd load, both recorded and reversed. Refills (from ₹999) on dated schedule with a spare always held; the festival season's ordered in advance as a separate line. Month twelve - review. Compare the four metrics against the baseline. Read direction, not decimals. Check consumption against expectation, any layout change, and register consistency across every unit. Update the written record. And then: hold the register. The asset begins accumulating in year two. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531. Made in India; a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

The year, month by month

The three phases that matter - the month before, the first month, and the twelfth.

Why this works
A year from nothing to a maintained signature
1 Month 0: baseline two weeks, fix physical problems, choose the register 2 Month 1: install, calibrate from outside, document, brief the team 3 Months 2 to 11: walk monthly, adjust seasonally, refill on schedule 4 Month 12: compare four ratios against the baseline, and hold the register
The showroom standard: the SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 - waterless, app-scheduled, ~1000m³ coverage. Small-store systems from ₹1,799.
1
Month zero
The month that decides whether year one means anything
The most valuable month in this plan happens before any money is spent, and it is the one almost every store skips. Three tasks fill it. The baseline is the first and it is what makes the twelfth month meaningful: two weeks of low-effort logging - consultation completions and rough dwell impressions at the front desk, discount depth off the invoices, a read of the last three months of public reviews for atmosphere language - taken in a normal fortnight rather than a festival peak, and ideally before staff know which metrics are being watched. The second task is fixing physical sources, which must happen before scenting rather than after, since a fragrance introduced into a space with an unresolved odour produces two smells and the masking impression. The third is choosing the register properly: a written congruence brief describing what this store claims to be, candidates tested in the actual space rather than from a bottle, and outside noses entering independently and asked about fit rather than preference. A store that does month zero well gets a defensible answer at month twelve. A store that skips it gets an opinion.
Tip: skip the baseline and the twelfth month produces an opinion instead of an answer.
2
Month one
Calibrate while nobody has adapted, and write it down
Installation is the easy part; the two things that matter in month one are calibration and documentation, and both have a window that closes. Calibration should happen while as many people as possible still have unadapted noses - which at installation is everybody, and within a fortnight is nobody. Set the level from outside, walking the full customer path, and separately from a consultation chair with the door closed for a sustained period, since that room needs the lowest setting in the building and is the one most often calibrated wrongly from a doorway. Then document: the register and the reasoning, the level as a setting rather than a description, delivery positions on a simple plan, provision per enclosed room, the refill schedule, and the named owner with a deputy. File it with other standing operational documents. The final month-one task is the team brief - four rules and one explanation of adaptation, which takes five minutes and prevents most of what would otherwise go wrong across the following decade.
3
Month twelve
Read direction, then hold
The twelfth month is a review rather than a verdict, and knowing what to expect keeps it useful. Two of the four metrics - consultation completion and discount depth - operate within a single visit and should have moved, if they are going to, by the second or third quarter. The other two run on the occasion cycle: return share cannot move faster than customers return, and review language accrues at the pace people write reviews, so both are just beginning to be readable at a year. Read direction rather than decimals across all four, compared against the baseline and against the prior year where possible. Then run the operational review: consumption against expectation, whether any refit or layout change has created a dead corner, whether every unit in the building is still running the same register, and whether the written record still matches reality. And then the most important instruction in the whole plan, which is to do nothing to the register. The asset this system builds begins accumulating properly in year two, and the strongest temptation to change arrives at exactly the point somebody inside has adapted and finds it unremarkable.
Tip: the strongest temptation to change the register arrives exactly when somebody inside has stopped noticing it.
The SOSA principle
A year runs from baseline and repairs, through installation and calibration, to a reviewed and maintained signature - and the month that decides it all is the one before anything is bought.
Read direction at twelve months, then hold the register, because the asset accumulates in year two.

The SOSA jewellery store edit

Whatever kind of jewellery you sell, the system logic is the same: one signature, sized to the showroom, scheduled so it never depends on a staff member's memory. Every SOSA system is supported from India, and the Hotel Collection blends - SOSA's own interpretations of the world's finest hotel scents - run across all of them. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Here is the full commercial range.

Honest notes for jewellery retailers: scent marketing's effects on dwell time, perceived quality and recall are real but moderate - fragrance compounds a well-run store and rescues nothing; premises must be clean, cool and well ventilated first, because scent crowns good air and never substitutes for it. No fragrance harms jewellery: quality diffuser fragrance at ambient levels does not tarnish gold, diamonds or gemstones (silver tarnish is driven by sulphur and humidity, not diffuser oils - keep any machine's mist away from direct contact with open displays as basic practice). The Hotel Collection scents are SOSA's own interpretations inspired by the world's finest hotels; SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house, not affiliated with or endorsed by any hotel or jewellery brand. Ultrasonic systems use the water-based Hotel Collection fragrance; the Vaayu and HVAC systems run waterless nebulising oil - the formats are not interchangeable. WhatsApp consult: +91 96192 18531. ISIPCA
Versailles
A note from Sonal

Jewellery retailers understand atmosphere better than almost any other business - you light every display like a stage, you serve chai in good cups, you train your team to make a bride feel like the only customer in the store. And then, in most stores, the air itself is left to chance: the street, the incense stick, the phenyl from the morning mopping. The most emotional purchase your customer will make this year deserves better air than that.

I trained at ISIPCA in Versailles, where the world's scent-marketing perfumers learn the craft, and what I build for Indian jewellery stores is the same architecture the global luxury houses use: one signature, sized to the showroom, run on a schedule - so the scent is as reliable as your lighting. The machines matter (throw, coverage, scheduling), but the strategy matters more, and it is in every guide we publish. If you want it applied to your specific store, message us on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 - I read the store descriptions myself.

Everything is made or assembled for Indian conditions, supported from Pune - and a part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Your brand gets a memory; a girl gets a classroom. That equation has always felt right to me.

Frequently asked questions

Can we compress this if we need the system running sooner?
Yes, with one part that should not be compressed. Installation and calibration can happen quickly - the physical work is an afternoon - and the register choice can be made in a week if the congruence brief is written promptly and candidates are tested efficiently. What should not be skipped is the baseline, because it costs only two weeks of light logging and it is the difference between having an answer at twelve months and having an impression. If the timing is genuinely urgent, the compromise worth making is to install first and baseline the metrics that can still be captured retrospectively - discount depth comes off invoices and review language off public platforms, both of which can be reconstructed for a prior period. Completion rate and dwell cannot be recovered after the fact, which is the argument for two weeks of patience.
What if the twelve-month review shows nothing?
Run the failure audit before concluding anything, because a flat result almost always has a findable cause. Check five things in order: coverage, with a proper walk-through at three times of day to find dead zones; dosing, since over-scenting suppresses exactly the dwell being measured and is the most common error; consistency, including whether refills lapsed at any point during the year and whether staff adjusted the setting; congruence, which is whether the register genuinely fits the store's positioning; and premises, meaning any physical source that has appeared during the year. If all five audit clean and the metrics are genuinely flat, the honest reading is that this store's decisions are not close enough for a marginal force to tip - which is real information about your market position rather than a failure of the system.
Should we tell staff which metrics we are tracking?
Not during the baseline, and it is fine afterwards. The reason for withholding at baseline is straightforward: staff who know that consultation completion is being counted will, without any dishonesty, behave slightly differently and record slightly more generously, which deflates the baseline in exactly the direction that makes your later result look worse. Once the baseline is taken, transparency is helpful - a team that understands the store is trying to complete more consultations and concede less discount is a team pulling in the same direction. The two metrics that are immune to this either way are discount depth and review language, since both come from records nobody at the front desk writes, which is precisely why they carry the most weight in the twelfth-month review.
Where does packaging fit into the twelve months?
Month one, alongside the store installation, so that both channels are consistent from the start. The packaging trace uses the same register at a featherweight dose, and setting it up at the same time avoids a period during which the store and the box are saying different things. Two practical points for the year: log the packaging method in the same written specification as the store settings, so it is inherited rather than improvised at the packing bench, and check it at the twelfth-month review by opening a finished box with a reset nose to confirm it is still a trace rather than having drifted upward the way store levels do. For stores with meaningful online sales, the packaging is doing proportionally more work than the showroom system and deserves its own line in the review.
What happens in year two?
Less, and that is the point. Year two is the same maintenance calendar - weekly glance, monthly walk, quarterly seasonal review, dated refills - with an annual review at the end and no changes to the register. What is different is that the asset begins to accumulate: customers who experienced the store in year one and return in year two arrive to a space that matches their memory, which is the recognition effect the whole system exists to build, and return share and review language become readable metrics rather than baselines. The main risk in year two is boredom - the register has become invisible to everybody inside, somebody proposes a change, and the accumulated recall is spent. The written record with its reasoning is the defence, which is why month one includes writing it down. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.

Editorial standards & sources
About this guide: Written by Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained founder and perfumer at SOSA Home & Body. Product recommendations reflect the SOSA commercial range; the scent-marketing strategy advice applies to any jewellery brand's systems.

Facts verified August 2026: Ambient scent research consistently associates pleasant, congruent scenting with longer dwell time, improved store and service evaluations, and stronger brand recall at moderate effect sizes; congruence (scent matching the setting) and gentle intensity outperform strong scenting in replicated studies, and no scent effect survives unclean or poorly ventilated premises. Olfactory memory is unusually durable: scent-linked brand memories persist and retrieve for years, which is the mechanism behind luxury signature scents. Quality diffuser fragrance at ambient levels does not damage gold, diamonds or gemstones; silver tarnish is driven by sulphur compounds and humidity. SOSA systems: Sukoon 500ml ultrasonic (Rs 1,799) and Megh 6L ultrasonic (Rs 3,499) run the water-based Hotel Collection fragrance (from Rs 299; refills 100ml Rs 999); SOSA Vaayu (Rs 11,999) is a waterless cold-air nebulising machine, ~1000m³ coverage, Bluetooth app and timer; SOSA Aangan (Rs 25,999) and SOSA Meenar (Rs 38,500) are HVAC nebulising systems for approximately 8,000-10,000 and 12,000-18,000 sq ft respectively. The Hotel Collection scents are SOSA's own interpretations; SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel or jewellery brand. Made in India. WhatsApp business line: +91 96192 18531.
