The answer most of the time: two Vaayu units at ₹23,998, one per floor — entrance hall and upper landing. It covers the volume, it treats each floor as the volume it actually is, and it is ₹2,001 cheaper than one Aangan.
When the Aangan is right: one Aangan at ₹25,999 if the villa has ducted air conditioning the machine can be mounted into. Then the building's own airflow does the distribution and every room shares one source.
The legitimate cheap answer: one Vaayu at ₹11,999 in the entrance hall, accepting a lighter upper floor. At most viewings the ground floor is what sells the house.
2. Then count the floors as separate volumes, because they are. A staircase joins two storeys but it does not make them one circulating space in any useful sense. Warm air rises through it continuously and carries scent upward unevenly — more to the landing, less to the far bedrooms, and almost nothing back down.
3. The answer most of the time is two Vaayu units at ₹23,998, one per floor. Entrance hall downstairs, upper landing upstairs, both on low, both running the same scent. It covers roughly 1,400 m³ with headroom, it treats each floor as the volume it is, and it is ₹2,001 cheaper than one Aangan.
4. Buy the Aangan at ₹25,999 only if the villa has ducted air conditioning. Mounted into ductwork, one machine covering up to 3,000 m³ uses the building's own airflow to distribute, and every room in the house shares one source. Standing on the floor of a hall in a villa cooled by split units, it is a large machine with no distribution system.
5. And one Vaayu at ₹11,999 downstairs is a legitimate choice, not a failure. If the budget is fixed, put it in the entrance hall and accept that the upper floor reads lighter. At most villa viewings the arrival, the hall, the living volume and the garden view are what sell the house.
6. Before any of that: the villa's own preparation. Traps, cross-ventilation, the servant's block, the utility yard, the pump room, the pool plant. A villa has more sources than a flat and they are further from where you stand. Anything structural is a material fact to fix or disclose, never to scent over.

Two floors, one staircase, and 1,400 cubic metres
Everything written about scenting a large apartment stops being reliable the moment the property acquires a second storey, and the reason is that a floor is a much more serious barrier than a wall. Air crosses a doorway easily and crosses a slab not at all. The only connection between the two halves of a villa is the stairwell, and a stairwell does not mix two floors together — it moves air one way, upward, continuously, driven by nothing more complicated than the fact that warm air is lighter than cool air. So a 5,000 sq ft villa is two volumes with a one-way link between them, and the honest arithmetic has to be done twice.
Three answers, and when each one is right
The three arrangements for roughly 1,400 cubic metres across two floors, with what each costs and the condition that makes it correct. The bottom rows are the arrangements I am asked about and would talk most readers out of, with the reasons printed rather than left to be discovered.
| Arrangement | Cost | Coverage against roughly 1,400 m³ | What has to be true |
|---|---|---|---|
| Two Vaayu, one per floor ★ | ₹23,998 | 2,000 m³ of rated capacity across two volumes of about 840 m³ and 640 m³ — headroom on both, so both run on low | Nothing. This is the default, it is ₹2,001 cheaper than the Aangan, and both units move to your next listing |
| One Aangan | ₹25,999 | Up to 3,000 m³ from one source, distributed through the building's own ductwork to every room including upstairs | The villa has ducted air conditioning the machine can be mounted into. Without ducts it is a large machine with no distribution system |
| One Vaayu, ground floor only | ₹11,999 | 1000 m³ against a ground floor of about 840 m³, plus whatever the stairwell carries upward, which is uneven and not adjustable | You accept a lighter upper floor. Legitimate when the hall, the living volume and the garden view are what sell the house |
| One Vaayu + a Sukoon upstairs | ₹13,898 | Coverage on the landing, and 30–50 ml of water an hour added to a first floor that is closed between viewings | The villa is occupied and air-conditioned upstairs. In a coastal or monsoon villa this is the wrong machine |
| One Megh in the hall | ₹3,499 | Six litres of water-based ultrasonic mist in a villa where you are usually fighting humidity rather than adding to it | An occupied, dry, air-conditioned house. Not a closed villa in Alibaug in July, and not near a wooden stair |
| Candles on the console | from ₹379 | Fifteen to twenty minutes to scent one room, and a flame that has to be watched and put out | Somebody stays in the room the whole time. An unattended flame in a vacant villa is an insurance problem, not staging |

One machine per floor, on low, from two hours out
Start with where the two machines actually stand, because a villa gives you more choices and most of them are wrong. Downstairs, the entrance hall — not the drawing room, not the family living area, and not the dining room. A villa hall is usually the highest and most connected volume on the ground floor, it is where the buyer's impression is formed, and it is upstream of the stairwell, so what it holds is also what feeds the shaft. Waist height or above, a metre or two out of the swing of the main door, and out of the direct path of any vent. Upstairs, the landing rather than the master bedroom. The landing is the distribution point for the whole upper floor and it is the one place from which every bedroom door is reachable; a machine in the master suite scents the master suite and does nothing for the other three rooms. Both machines on the lowest setting: 2,000 m³ of rated capacity against roughly 1,400 m³ of villa is exactly the headroom that makes a low setting sufficient, and a low setting is what a viewing wants. Both running the same scent, without exception. Two compositions in one house meet on the stairs, and a staircase is the single worst place in a property for two fragrances to be introduced to each other. Set both on the 4h timer, open every internal door on both floors, and go and do something else for two hours.
Then the villa-specific preparation, which is where a 5,000 sq ft house differs from a 5,000 sq ft flat far more than the fragrance does. A villa has perhaps three times the number of smell sources an apartment has, and almost all of them are in places nobody walks through on the way to switching a machine on. The list I would work through the day before: every drain trap in the house, including the servant's toilet, the utility yard, the terrace outlet and the one in the garage; the pump room and any water tank access; the pool plant if there is one, because a chlorine plant room with a shut door is a smell waiting to be discovered by an architect; the store under the stairs; the kitchen bins and the wet-waste arrangement; and the garden side of the house, where a compost heap or a drain outfall is close enough to the living volume's windows to matter. Then cross-ventilate properly: a villa has windows on four elevations, which is a genuine advantage over any flat, and twenty minutes with opposite sides open moves more air than any machine ever will. Three hours before, close up and cool down; two hours before, doors open and both machines on low; thirty minutes before, walk the house the way the buyer will — from the gate, through the door, into the hall, up the stairs — and adjust down rather than up. The walk matters more in a villa than anywhere else, because you enter your own listing from the wrong door out of habit and the buyer never will.
Then the constraints, the waterless argument as it applies specifically here, and the line that outranks all of it. The reason both machines in this arrangement are waterless nebulisers rather than ultrasonics is that a villa is usually the property in the portfolio you are least able to keep dry. It has more external wall, more ground contact, often a garden and frequently a pool, it sits empty between viewings, and in a coastal or monsoon location the air in it is already carrying more moisture than anybody wants. An ultrasonic machine puts 30–50 ml of water an hour into that, which is the wrong direction, and it does it onto stone, timber and joinery. The Vaayu atomises undiluted oil to a dry residue-free mist: no water, no heat, nothing on a wooden stair tread or a stone floor, and nothing to spill in a house that is not yours. A reed diffuser from ₹749 has an honest role in a villa that is shown every weekend for six months, because 24 to 72 hours to establish is irrelevant when the listing is permanent — but it cannot be turned down before a buyer arrives, and in 1,400 m³ its reach is a console table rather than a house. And above every product decision on this page: a villa with damp in a ground-floor wall, a leaking terrace, a drain problem or a smell coming from under a floor is not a property to scent. Those are material facts. Find them, fix them or disclose them. Scenting over a defect to help complete a sale is misrepresentation, and it is the one thing this brand will not help with. Nothing here claims fragrance affects the price, the offer or the time on market — it is presentation, alongside photography, styling and lighting, and that is enough.
The SOSA edit
In buying order for a 5,000 sq ft two-storey villa being shown to buyers. The first row is two of the same machine rather than one bigger one, and the second row is the machine most people expect to be recommended here, with the condition attached that decides whether it is right.
| Buy | What it is | When it earns its place | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. Two SOSA Vaayu ★ | Two waterless nebulisers, up to 1000 m³ each, 400ml tanks for about 75 days, 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, under 38 dB, auto-stop, key-lock, 0.9 kg each | The default. Entrance hall and upper landing, both on low, both running the same scent. ₹2,001 less than one Aangan | ₹23,998 |
| 2. Aangan | Up to 3,000 m³, 800ml reservoir, metal body, programmable schedules, under 42 dB, HVAC-connected or standalone | Only where the villa has ducted air conditioning to mount it into. Then the building distributes and one source serves the house | ₹25,999 |
| 3. Ritz-Carlton-inspired 15ml | White tea, bergamot and cedar — the default viewing register, quiet and impossible to dislike | Always, and in both machines. Two scents meeting on a staircase is the worst introduction in the house | ₹299 |
| 4. 1 Hotels-inspired 15ml | Cedarwood, vetiver and green leaves — dry, low and the most heat-tolerant of the seven | A warm villa, a coastal villa, or one where the kitchen opens into the family living area | ₹299 |
| 5. Reed diffusers | Alcohol-free, 24–72 hours to establish, no timer, no adjustment, from ₹749 | A villa that will be shown every weekend for months, on a console in the hall as a constant. Never for a viewing tomorrow | from ₹749 |
| One machine is fine too: one Vaayu, downstairs | 1000 m³ against a ground floor of about 840 m³, in the entrance hall, with the upper floor accepted as lighter | A fixed budget. A villa is usually sold in the hall and the living volume, and there is no shame in spending where the buyer stands | ₹11,999 |
Versailles
This is the size at which I stop being able to tell somebody that one machine will do it, and I would rather lose the easy sale than make it. Five thousand square feet over two floors is about 1,400 cubic metres and the Vaayu is rated to 1000. That is not a machine being modest about itself. It is 40 per cent more air than it is built for, and then the staircase divides what is left into two problems that do not talk to each other. Anybody who tells you one unit covers a villa of this size has either not done the sum or is hoping you will not.
What surprises people is which of the two remaining answers I recommend. Two Vaayu at ₹23,998 beats one Aangan at ₹25,999 in most villas, and it is cheaper. The Aangan is a better machine and it wins decisively in exactly one case — a house with ducted air conditioning, where it mounts into the ductwork and the building's own airflow reaches every room including the ones at the end of the upstairs corridor. Without ducts, all that capacity has nowhere to go and you have bought a large box for a hall. Two small machines, one per floor, sized to the volume each floor actually is, and both of them light enough to go in a car boot when the villa sells. That is the honest recommendation, and the ₹2,001 you did not spend buys a lot of drain traps.
