There is no upholstery, no curtain, no carpet - there is a wall of stainless built-ins, a run of glass fronts, a lacquered island and a stone floor. Every one of those bounces scent back into the air rather than soaking any of it up, which is why an appliance floor sits a step below a furniture showroom at every size, and why a small one sits a step below that. In 140m³ of hard surfaces a source that is even slightly too strong has nowhere to go. I get asked about the Vaayu for small studios more than for any other room, and I understand why: it is the machine in the photographs, it is waterless, it has the timer and the lock. It is also rated to a thousand cubic metres, and a 500 sq ft studio holds about a hundred and forty. I could sell it to you and tell you to run it on the one-hour timer at the lowest setting, and it would work, in the sense that a fire hose works for watering a plant. I would rather tell you that the honest answer is a bottle with six reeds on the sideboard facing the door, and that if you want it plugged in, the Sukoon is a good product provided you know it is water-based.
That last point is the one I will not soften for an appliance room. An ultrasonic diffuser puts a fine cool mist into the air and the mist is water.
