You have been told not to bring anything and you are going to bring something anyway, which leaves you with the only real question here: how do you turn up with a gift without overruling your host? The sentence almost always means one of two things - do not spend money on me, or do not make work for me - and both of them can be followed while still arriving with something in your hand.
The quietest of the five, which is the brief on this page. SOSA Morning Freshness, ₹749 for 50ml - Malabar lemon and mint, about 6 to 10 weeks, no flame, no socket and nothing to switch off. It leads here because a host who asked you not to bring anything wants a gift that can be set down and left alone, and this is the one least likely to announce itself.
Quick answers — read this first
What should I bring when the host says not to bring anything? Something small that creates no work and needs no reaction. Under ₹1,000, nothing perishable, nothing that has to be arranged, cut, plated or refrigerated. A 50ml reed diffuser at ₹749 or a candle at ₹399 both qualify.
Does don't bring anything ever mean it literally? Sometimes, and the way to respect that is to keep the thing small rather than to arrive empty-handed with a speech about it. A ₹399 candle or a ₹749 50ml reed is quiet enough that nobody has to react to it. What overrules a host is a ₹2,498 box, not a small object left on a side table.
What should I definitely not bring? Anything that becomes a task in the next twenty minutes: flowers that need a vase and trimming, food that needs a plate and a decision, anything frozen, anything that must be opened in front of the room. Those are the things the sentence was written to prevent.
The short answer
Short answer: Take something under Rs 1,000 that makes no work and needs no reaction. A 50ml reed diffuser at Rs 749 to Rs 849 or a candle at Rs 399 both fit. Avoid anything perishable, anything that needs arranging and anything that has to be opened in front of everybody.
Why: It is under the line where money becomes the subject, it needs no vase, no plate and no fridge, and it can be put down on a side table without interrupting anything.
A gift cannot change how somebody's week went, and a page that suggests otherwise is not worth reading. What a small parcel does is tell a person you were thinking about them on a day when nothing made you - which is a real thing to say, and worth saying. Keep it small, because a large one asks somebody already short of energy to produce a reaction, and send the words separately, because the object cannot carry them.
What home gift should you take when the host has told you not to bring anything?
Take something under Rs 1,000, not perishable, and requiring nothing to be done with it. Those three conditions are simply the sentence translated: "do not bring anything" is usually shorthand for do not spend money on me, or do not create work for me, and occasionally both. A 50ml reed diffuser at ₹749 clears all three - it is a bottle and some rattan reeds, it runs about 6 to 10 weeks, and it has no flame, no socket, no water and nothing to switch off, so it never becomes a job. A candle at ₹399 is the smaller version of the same idea for a household that lights things. What breaks the rule is scale, not the act of bringing something: a duo set at ₹1,598 or a 130ml pair at ₹2,598 turns your arrival into an event and makes the host's sentence into something you ignored. And if your host is somebody who genuinely, repeatedly refuses gifts, the right answer may be nothing at all, or the ₹399 candle rather than the ₹1,249 bottle. A portion of every SOSA order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
The host did not ban gifts. They banned spending and they banned chores. You can bring something that is neither.
The brief in one line: under ₹1,000, nothing perishable, nothing to arrange. A 50ml reed at ₹749 is the middle of that band and a candle at ₹399 is the lower end.
How to read the sentence, and what follows from each reading
Start by deciding which sentence was actually said to you, because the two common meanings point at slightly different objects. Then check the thing you are carrying against the third test, which is the one most gifts fail.
1
The first reading
"Do not spend money on me"
This is the version you hear from close friends, from family, and from anybody who thinks you have been generous recently. It is about the amount, not the act, and it is easy to follow: stay under ₹1,000 and the objection has nothing to land on.
What sits in that band and is still a complete gift: a candle at ₹399 for about 15 to 18 hours, an attar from ₹379 in 3ml if you can name what somebody already wears, and a 50ml reed diffuser at ₹749 to ₹849. Two things that look cheap and are not really gifts at all: the ₹299 Hotel Collection bottle is fuel for an ultrasonic machine, and wax melts at ₹499 need a burner at ₹599. Do not stretch a component to fill a price band.
Tip: Under ₹1,000 is the whole instruction. It is not a hard one to follow.
2
The second reading
"Do not create work for me"
This is the version you hear from somebody who is hosting fourteen people and counting chairs. They are not thinking about your money at all, they are thinking about the next two hours, and a gift that needs handling is one more thing in a queue.
Judge your gift by what it asks for in the twenty minutes after you arrive. Flowers ask for a vase, water, a trim and somewhere to put them, in the middle of the arrivals. Anything cooked asks for a plate, a fridge or a decision about whether it goes out now. A reed diffuser asks for a side table. That is the entire difference, and on a busy evening it is the difference that matters.
3
The test most gifts fail
It should need no reaction
Here is the part nobody plans for. Even a small, cheap, work-free gift becomes a problem if it has to be unwrapped and admired while ten people watch. The host stops, performs gratitude, and the thing you were trying to keep quiet has become the centre of the room for ninety seconds.
So carry something that can be handed over and set down. SOSA encloses no card and there is no wrapping service, which here is an advantage rather than a gap: there is nothing to unwrap, so there is nothing to open in front of anybody. Say one short sentence - it is for the house - and move on. If you want a scent that stays in the background of a busy evening rather than announcing itself, Morning Freshness at ₹749 is the least declarative of the five.
Tip: If it has to be opened in front of the room, it is not a quiet gift any more.
The size decision, before the scent decision
50ml or 130ml is a room question, not a budget question
The 50ml from ₹749 suits a bedroom, a study, a hallway or anybody receiving their first diffuser. The 130ml from ₹1,249 suits an open-plan living and dining area or a large 3BHK living room, and it is genuinely too much for a small closed bedroom - a bigger bottle in the wrong room gets moved into a corridor. All five scents run about 6 to 10 weeks either way.
How to arrive with something without overruling your host
Decide which they meant: do not spend, or do not make work.
Cap it at Rs 1,000 and rule out anything perishable.
Check it needs no vase, no plate, no fridge and no socket.
Hand it over with one sentence and put it down. No unwrapping.
The SOSA principle
A good gift for a host who asked for nothing is one that can be ignored for an hour and still be there. The worst one is the one that has to be dealt with at the door.
Cost is only half the sentence your host said. The other half is time, and most gifts fail on that one.
What fits under Rs 1,000 and still counts as a real gift
Inside the ₹1,000 band there are four of the five SOSA reeds in 50ml, and they are not interchangeable. Morning Freshness at ₹749 is Malabar lemon and mint and the quietest of the five, which is what you want for a gift that is deliberately not making an entrance. Garden Bloom at ₹799 is British rose and night-blooming jasmine and reads more obviously as a present, which cuts both ways here. Evening Calm at ₹799 is lavender and chamomile, that being the name on the bottle and a description of the two ingredients rather than a claim about anything. Mountain Breeze and Fresh Brew at ₹849 are pine, sage and cedar, and Coorg coffee with Kerala vanilla - both are strong points of view, and Fresh Brew is the one most likely to be noticed and commented on, which is the opposite of the brief on this page.
The SOSA gift edit
What clears the two tests, and what quietly fails one of them
The option
Who it suits, and where it fails
A 50ml reed · ₹749 to ₹849
Passes both tests. Under ₹1,000, and it needs nothing done to it now or later: no water, no flame, no socket, about 6 to 10 weeks. It can be set on a side table and left. It fails only if the host already runs a diffuser they chose, in which case bring nothing scented at all.
A candle · ₹399 to ₹999
The smaller answer, and the right one if ₹749 still feels like too much after what they said. ₹399 for about 15 to 18 hours, ₹699 for a two-candle duo. It fails for anybody who does not light things, and in rented rooms where flames are often not allowed.
Flowers · a sequence of small jobs
Passes the money test and fails the work one. Somebody has to find a vase, cut the stems, fill it, place it and change the water, all during arrivals, and then watch it decline over the week. Bring them when the occasion is formal and the host has help, not when they asked you not to bring anything.
A duo set or a 130ml pair · ₹1,498 to ₹2,598
Excellent gifts in the wrong place. Duo sets from ₹1,498 are boxed and visibly an occasion, and the 130ml pairs are more so. After a host has asked for nothing, either one reads as having been overruled. Save them for a housewarming you were invited to celebrate.
When it has to look like an occasion
A duo set is the readymade gift box, without anybody assembling a hamper
Two 50ml reeds in one box: Day & Night pairs Morning Freshness lemon-mint with Evening Calm lavender-chamomile at ₹1,498, Fresh & Grounded pairs lemon-mint with Mountain Breeze pine and cedar at ₹1,548, and Warmth & Bloom pairs Fresh Brew coffee-vanilla with Garden Bloom rose-jasmine at ₹1,598. The 130ml x 2 versions are ₹2,498, ₹2,548 and ₹2,598.
One last practical point, because it decides whether a small gift is also a useful one. Four of the five scents publish refills at ₹2,399 for 300ml and ₹3,499 for 500ml, so a host who gets on with what you brought can continue it on their own terms; Evening Calm publishes no refill. And the size question does not disappear just because the gift is small: the 50ml is right for a hallway, an entrance, a study or a bedroom, which is exactly where a modest, unfussy gift tends to end up anyway. The 130ml at ₹1,249 belongs to a large open-plan living and dining area, and it is both too big for the room and too big for the occasion here.
Morning Freshness and Evening Calm in one box, two 50ml bottles. The readymade housewarming and client gift, without a hamper in sight.
₹1,498 · 50ml x 2
When the gift is meant to be the big one
SOSA Safar ₹3,999 for the car, SOSA Vaayu ₹11,999 for the whole home
Safar is the waterless, cordless, rechargeable cold-diffusion perfume diffuser for a car or a travel bag - ₹3,999 for the SOSA-scent trios and ₹4,499 for the hotel-inspired trios. Vaayu is the machine version of the same idea for a building: waterless cold-air nebulising of undiluted oil, rated for approximately 1000 m3 of connected air, with a Bluetooth app and timer, a 400ml tank, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounting, DC 12V / 1A 5W mains power and CE, RoHS and SGS marks. Both run waterless nebuliser oil - 100 gm ₹1,049, 300 gm ₹1,849 - and neither takes the ₹299 water-based Hotel Collection bottle. A rating assumes one connected body of air, so a Vaayu suits a large open home or a business and is the wrong gift for a two-bedroom flat with every door closed. It adds a scent to a space; it does not remove one.
Tell SOSA who it is for, roughly how big the room is, whether their home is already scented and what you want to spend - and you will be told which size and which scent, including the times the honest answer is the 50ml rather than the 130ml.
Bring the kind of gift that can sit unopened on a side table for three hours without anybody feeling they have neglected it.

The SOSA gifting range
Two questions settle almost every reed diffuser gift, and the first one is not price. How big is the room it is going into? A 50ml suits a bedroom, a study, a hallway or a first diffuser; a 130ml suits an open-plan living and dining area, and it is genuinely too much for a small closed bedroom. Then: how much do you actually know about their taste? The less you know, the less declarative the scent should be - Morning Freshness is the safest of the five for a home you have never stood in, and Fresh Brew coffee-vanilla is the strongest opinion in the range. Price follows those two answers rather than leading them.
The SOSA gifting range
Pick the size by the room, then the scent by how little you know about them
Approx 1000 m3 of connected air with a Bluetooth app and timer - a large open home or a business, not a flat
₹11,999
Three different fluids run through this range and none of them is interchangeable. Reed diffusers use their own alcohol-free reed oil. The SOSA ultrasonics - Boond ₹899, Sukoon ₹1,899 and Megh ₹5,999 - run the water-basedHotel Collection from ₹299. Vaayu and Safar run waterless nebulising oil, so the ₹299 water-based bottle never goes into either of them. SOSA blends are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

What SOSA publishes, and what SOSA does not
Everything below is on the live product pages. Anything not on this list is not something a gifting page should state.
Attars - Adaa ₹379 / ₹669 / ₹1,149, Ameeri ₹385 / ₹679 / ₹1,165, Mastani ₹389 / ₹685 / ₹1,179 and Nawaab ₹399 / ₹699 / ₹1,199 in 3ml, 6ml and 12ml. The Attar Trio is ₹1,055, ₹1,859 or ₹3,189.
Car fragrance - nine scents from ₹449 to ₹549, each in a mild hanging format and a stronger spray at the same price, with 50ml sprays at ₹1,499 and saver combos at ₹899 to ₹949. Safar is ₹3,999, or ₹4,499 for the hotel-inspired trios.
Candles and wax melts - Bookshop, Cozy Corner, Misty Mornings and Evening Walks at ₹399 for approximately 15 to 18 hours, or ₹699 for a two-candle duo at approximately 30 to 36 hours. Woodenwick candles in jasmine, sandalwood and vanilla ₹999. Bubble Candles ₹499 unscented and ₹599 scented. Wax melts from ₹499, which need a ceramic burner at ₹599 - so they are only a complete gift for somebody who already owns one.
Not published, and therefore never stated here: how long any fragrance will be liked, delivery or dispatch timing, any festive discount, any minimum order quantity or bulk rate, and any claim about what a person will feel on receiving a gift. Those questions go to WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.
Not sure which size or which scent? Tell SOSA on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 four things: who it is for and how well you know them, roughly how big the room is, whether their home is already scented, and what you want to spend. You will get one straight recommendation rather than a catalogue - including the times the honest answer is the 50ml rather than the 130ml, or a single bottle rather than the duo set. Corporate and client gifting: bulk orders are welcome and custom label or logo on product is available; quantities, terms and anything corporate are discussed on WhatsApp rather than priced on a page. Bespoke composition, a fragrance composed for you by Sonal, is a real SOSA service and is also discussed there. Where SOSA is: SOSA is an Indian fragrance house based in Pune and sends orders across India. There is no SOSA shop, stockist or counter in any other city, so anything you read here about Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mysuru or anywhere else is about the homes in those cities and not about a local branch.

A note from Sonal
The reed diffuser is the product people are least embarrassed to give and most surprised by afterwards. What they expect is a decorative object. What it actually is, is a small piece of a household that runs for six to ten weeks and then ends, which is a very different thing from an ornament somebody has to keep forever out of politeness.
The reason I recommend it so often for gifting is unromantic: you are buying for a room rather than for a person. Personal fragrance is a taste decision, and when you cannot finish the sentence she usually wears something with..., no amount of money makes the guess better. A room does not have a signature scent it is loyal to. That is why a reed diffuser works for a colleague, a client, a mother-in-law and a friend's new flat - relationships where you may like somebody very much and still have no idea what is on their dressing table.
The one thing I would press on is size, because it is where good intentions go wrong. The 130ml is not the better gift, it is the bigger room's gift. Put it in a small closed bedroom and the person will move it to a corridor within a week. A 50ml at ₹749 in the right room beats a 130ml at ₹1,249 in the wrong one every single time, and if you want to spend more, spend it on the duo set so they get two rooms rather than one very loud one.
Frequently asked questions
Should I really bring something if the host said not to?
Most people do, and the way to do it without overruling anybody is to keep it small. Under Rs 1,000, nothing perishable, nothing that needs arranging. A 50ml reed diffuser at Rs 749 or a candle at Rs 399 sits comfortably inside that. What actually ignores the request is scale, not the gesture.
What does don't bring anything usually mean?
Usually one of two things: do not spend money on me, or do not create work for me. The first is about the amount and is solved by staying under Rs 1,000. The second is about the next twenty minutes and is solved by bringing something that needs no vase, no plate and no fridge.
Why is a reed diffuser a good answer to this?
Because it needs nothing done to it. It is a bottle of alcohol-free reed oil with rattan reeds, it runs about 6 to 10 weeks, and there is no flame, no socket, no water and nothing to switch off. It can be put down at the door and looked at later, which is the whole point when a host has asked for nothing.
Is a candle better than a reed diffuser here?
It is smaller and cheaper, at Rs 399 for about 15 to 18 hours, so it fits an even quieter version of this. But it only suits a household that lights candles, and many rented flats and hostels do not allow flames. Where that is a question, the reed is the straightforward substitute at Rs 749.
Is there a gift card or a note included with the order?
No. SOSA does not enclose a card and there is no wrapping or personalisation, so there is nothing to unwrap in front of a room. Say one sentence when you hand it over. Bulk orders are welcome with a custom label or logo on the product, and those go to WhatsApp on +91 96192 18531.
Take the next step
Small, finished, and nothing for anybody to do
A 50ml reed from ₹749 is the middle of the band, a candle at ₹399 is the lower end, and anything boxed above ₹1,498 is the version that ignores what your host said. Tell SOSA what the evening is and how well you know the host, and you will get one answer rather than a list.
Not sure which one suits the person you are buying for? Send SOSA their age, whether they drive, whether they like their home scented and your budget on WhatsApp, and you will get an honest answer - including when the cheaper product is the better gift.
