Why occupancy decides this, not floor area

The number three has an obvious logic behind it: three closed spaces, three machines, done. And the physics supports it — a shut door really does stop fragrance almost completely, so if you want all three rooms to smell of something at once, three machines is what that costs. The trouble is that the argument is about coverage when the real variable is presence. Ambient fragrance works on the person in the room; its effects are real but moderate, and they require someone there to have them. A diffuser running in an empty guest room is producing an experience for nobody. It is the only purchase in home fragrance where you can be certain of the return, because the return is zero.

This is why the second bedroom question separates so cleanly. If a child sleeps in that room every night, it is doing the same work as the master and deserves the same treatment — arguably more, since bedtime routines are where scent earns its keep. If it is the room with the study table, the drying rack and a bed that gets used when your cousin visits, then it is a store room with a mattress, and no amount of square footage changes that. This is the answer I give most often and the one that gets ignored most often, because a mixed setup feels like a compromise. It is not. A second bedroom in a 2BHK is typically 100–130 sq ft; the Boond is rated to 150 sq ft, so it is the correctly sized machine for the room rather than a smaller version of the correct one. Its 300ml tank runs about six hours, which matches a room used in the evening rather than all day, and it is USB-powered with a colour night light — a feature that is faintly silly in a living room and genuinely useful in a child's room. You save ₹1,000 against three Sukoons and lose nothing you would have noticed.

The third machine does not make the flat smell better. It adds one more room — so the only question is whether anyone is in it.
Scent does not cross a shut door in either direction. A diffuser in the second bedroom changes nothing in the living room or the master.

Placement, drops and schedule across two or three machines

Whether you end up with two machines or three, they want different settings rather than identical ones. The living/dining Sukoon takes four to five drops per tank and lives on a sideboard about a metre up, on the seating side of the room and away from the passage mouth. The master takes three drops on a chest of drawers across from the bed, on the 2H timer before sleep. Copying the living room settings into a bedroom is the commonest reason people conclude a scent is too strong when the dose is the problem.

If you buy the third machine, run it least of all. A second bedroom used by a child wants two drops and an hour before bedtime, positioned on a shelf or desk well away from the pillow and out of the AC's path. A Boond makes this easy — its 300ml tank and roughly six-hour runtime mean it cannot be left going for a day and a half the way a Sukoon can. If you did buy a third Sukoon for that room, use the 2H timer rather than steady, and expect a 15ml bottle to last considerably longer there than in the living room.

Three machines also change the fragrance maths, which is worth knowing before you commit. Two Sukoons arriving with six 15ml bottles is already more fragrance than most people get through in the first few months; a third machine does not just cost ₹1,899, it adds a third tank to keep filled. Rinse tanks when you change scents, use filtered water in hard-water cities so the misting plate stays clean, and never substitute raw essential or carrier oils — too thick to atomise, and they will foul the machine. Three to six drops of Hotel Collection per tank is the guidance; across a 2BHK you will sit at the lower end.

Honest notes before you buy: the ₹1,000 gap between three Sukoons and the two-plus-Boond setup buys a 100ml refill with change, or most of a 300ml bottle — which is why the middle option is the one I recommend to families with a child in the second bedroom. These are ultrasonic, water-based fragrances, so they add a little humidity, welcome in a dry or air-conditioned flat and less so in a coastal monsoon. The machines (Boond, Sukoon, Megh) are imported from China; the Hotel Collection fragrances are composed and made in India. The way this question usually arrives is: "I have three rooms, so I should buy three, shouldn't I?" And my answer is a question back. How many nights a month does anybody sleep in the second bedroom? The number people give me is almost always lower than the one they expected to give.

I am not against the third machine. In a home where a child has their own room, or a parent lives with the family, the second bedroom is not a spare room at all and I would buy for it without hesitation. What I am against is buying it on the strength of a floor plan. A 2BHK sale deed lists three enclosed rooms; your week lists two. Fragrance follows the week.

So take the test seriously, and if the room passes it, look hard at the Boond before you reach for a third Sukoon — ₹899 against ₹1,899 for a room that is smaller than the ones you have already sorted.
