Founder Diaries · Fragrance Gifts for Father
By Sonal Sahani · ISIPCA Versailles 8 min read Updated September 2026
You are not shopping, you are looking for something to hand over while you say a specific thing. That is a different problem, and it has an unexpected answer: the words do the work and the object is only a carrier. So the useful constraint is to keep the object small enough that it does not start talking over the sentence you came to say. A large gift changes the subject to itself.
SOSA Ameeri attar, Taif rose with sandalwood and saffron, from Rs 385
SOSA Ameeri · Taif rose, Indian sandalwood, Persian saffron and soft oudh from ₹385 →
Small enough to stay a carrier. SOSA Ameeri, ₹385 for 3ml - Taif rose with Indian sandalwood, Persian saffron and soft oudh, alcohol-free oil rolled on rather than sprayed. It is the warm traditional one of the four, and at 3ml it is a complete gift that does not start its own conversation about what it cost. Nothing printed is enclosed with an order, so the sentence is yours to write.
Quick answers — read this first
What is a good thank-you gift for a father? Something small and consumable, handed over with the actual sentence you want to say. An attar at ₹385 for 3ml or car fragrance at ₹449 both work, because neither is large enough to become the main event.

Does SOSA include a card with the gift? No. SOSA does not enclose a printed card with an order and does not offer any note-with-the-order service, so anything you want said has to be written and sent by you, separately. On a thank-you that is a feature rather than a gap, because a card somebody else prints is not the sentence you meant.

Should a thank-you gift be expensive to count? No, and size works against you here. The bigger the object, the more the exchange becomes about the object - its price, whether it was too much, where it goes. A small consumable under about ₹1,000 leaves the conversation where you wanted it.
The short answer
Short answer: Keep it small. The sentence is the gift and the object is a carrier, so buy something consumable under about Rs 1,000 - an attar at Rs 385 for 3ml, or car fragrance at Rs 449 if he drives. SOSA encloses no printed card, so write the words yourself and send them separately.
The pick: A 3ml SOSA Ameeri at ₹385 - Taif rose with Indian sandalwood, Persian saffron and soft oudh - or car fragrance at ₹449 if he drives daily.
Why: Small, consumable and specific, so the object stays a carrier and the thing you wanted to say stays the point.
Where your father actually spends his day - at a glanceHe drives daily - car fragrance ₹449, hanging or spray, same priceHe wears something - attar from ₹379, oud or sandalwoodHe travels or lives in the car - SOSA Safar ₹3,999He is retired and home all day - reed diffuser ₹749
Most gifts for fathers fail in the same way: they are aimed at a living room he sits in for an hour, not at the car he spends ten hours a week in. Work out where his day actually happens before you look at a price, and the shortlist gets very short - usually a ₹449 car fragrance or a ₹379 attar rather than the expensive thing you were bracing yourself for.
Straight answer
What should I buy as a thank-you gift for my father?
Buy something small, and spend the effort on the sentence instead. A thank-you is a piece of communication, and the object is the thing you hold while you make it. That is the whole reason the usual advice to go big is wrong here - past a certain size the exchange stops being about what you wanted to say and becomes about the gift itself, what it cost and whether it was too much. Under about ₹1,000 that does not happen. Concretely: a 3ml attar at ₹379 to ₹399 if you can name something he already wears, alcohol-free oil rolled on rather than sprayed; car fragrance at ₹449 to ₹549 if he drives, in a mild hanging format or a stronger spray at the same price; or a 50ml reed diffuser at ₹749 to ₹849 if he is home most of the day. One thing to be clear about, because people ask and then assume: SOSA does not enclose a printed card with an order, and there is no note-with-the-order service. Write what you want to say in your own hand and send it separately. And if the thank-you is for something very specific, do not buy the biggest thing in the range to signal how specific it was - the specificity belongs in the sentence, not in the price. A portion of every SOSA order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
The object is a carrier. Make it small enough that the sentence is still the loudest thing in the room.
The shape this page argues for: a 3ml attar at ₹385 or car fragrance at ₹449, plus a sentence you wrote yourself. Nothing printed comes in the box.
SOSA attars from ₹379

Why the object should stay small, and what to do about the words

Three things decide a thank-you gift, and only one of them is the product. The other two are size and the words, which is not the order most gift guides put them in.

1
The size rule
A large object changes the subject to itself
There is a threshold, and most people cross it by accident. Below roughly ₹1,000 an object is simply handed over and the conversation stays where you put it. Above that, the object starts generating its own conversation - what it cost, whether it was too much, where it will go, whether he can accept it. That conversation is not the one you came to have, and on a thank-you it displaces the one you did.

This is not an argument for being cheap, it is an argument about attention. A 3ml attar at ₹379 to ₹399 is a complete, well-made thing; it is simply not large enough to take over. If your instinct says that a bigger gift would demonstrate how much you mean it, notice that the demonstration you actually have available is the sentence, and it costs nothing.
Tip: If the object will generate its own conversation, it is too big for this.
2
The words
Nothing printed comes in the box, and that is worth knowing before you order
SOSA does not put a printed card in with an order and does not offer any note-with-the-order service, so there is nothing to tick and nothing to type into a box at checkout. The only branding SOSA offers on any order is a custom label or logo on the product itself, which is a different thing entirely and belongs to bulk and corporate orders rather than to this.

Which means the words are yours. Write them and send them separately, or say them when you hand the thing over. That is more work than ticking a box and it is also the only version that is actually from you - a printed line chosen from a list is not the sentence you meant, and on a thank-you the sentence is the entire point. If you want the practical version: one specific thing you are thanking him for, in one or two lines, written rather than typed.
3
The fit
Aim it at his routine so it gets used rather than kept
A thank-you that sits unopened on a shelf has quietly failed, so the same fit question applies here as anywhere else in gifting: where does his day actually happen? If he drives most weekdays, the car is the strongest answer in the range and the one almost nobody buys for - ₹449 to ₹549, hanging or spray at the same price. If you can finish the sentence he usually wears something with..., a 3ml attar is accurate rather than hopeful. If he is home most hours of the day, a 50ml reed diffuser at ₹749 to ₹849 in the room he actually sits in, running about 6 to 10 weeks.

What does not belong on a thank-you is SOSA Safar at ₹3,999 unless he genuinely drives for hours or travels constantly - and even then, be honest with yourself about whether you are buying it for his week or to mark the size of the thank-you. For a father who drives twice a week it is the wrong object at any budget.
Tip: Buy for the car, the shelf or the chair - whichever one you can actually name.
SOSA Ameeri attar, Taif rose with sandalwood and saffron, from Rs 385
The format he already understands
An attar is not a smaller perfume - it is the thing many Indian fathers wore before perfume arrived
Alcohol-free concentrated oil, applied to the pulse points rather than sprayed, so it sits close to the skin and does not announce itself across a room. Nawaab is white royal oud with Mysore sandalwood and Kashmir saffron; Ameeri is Taif rose with Indian sandalwood and Persian saffron; Adaa is bergamot, green cardamom and jasmine sambac; Mastani is night-blooming jasmine with damask rose and oudh. From ₹379 for 3ml, ₹669 for 6ml and ₹1,149 for 12ml.
See the SOSA attars →
Work it out in this order
How to put a thank-you together in ten minutes
  1. Write the sentence first. One specific thing, in one or two lines.
  2. Set a ceiling of about Rs 1,000 so the object stays a carrier.
  3. Pick by routine: his car at Rs 449, his shelf at Rs 379, his chair at Rs 749.
  4. Send the words separately. Nothing printed comes with the order.
The SOSA principle
On a thank-you, the object is the smaller half of the gift. The sentence is the other half, and it is the half that cannot be bought, delegated or printed.
Which is why the useful budget advice here is a ceiling rather than a floor.

What to buy, and the sizes that stay out of the way

If you can name something he already wears, the 3ml attar is the size that fits this page. Ameeri at ₹385 is Taif rose with Indian sandalwood, Persian saffron and soft oudh - the one that reads as festive and traditional without being heavy. Nawaab at ₹399 is white royal oud with Mysore sandalwood and Kashmir saffron. Mastani at ₹389 is night-blooming jasmine with damask rose and oudh, and Adaa at ₹379 is bergamot, green cardamom and jasmine sambac. None of these is published as a fragrance for one gender or another. If you cannot name what he wears, go to the car instead: Sandalwood ₹479, Oud ₹509, Vetiver ₹509 for something dry and earthy, Lemon ₹499 or Icy Mint ₹489 if he dislikes anything sweet, each in a mild hanging format or a stronger spray at the same price.

The SOSA gift edit
Four ways to carry a thank-you, and where each one gets in the way
The option Who it suits, and where it fails
A 3ml attar · ₹379 to ₹399 The smallest complete gift in the range and the one that stays out of the way of the sentence. Alcohol-free oil rolled on rather than sprayed, which is the format many Indian fathers grew up with. Ameeri at ₹385 is the warm traditional one. It fails if you cannot name what he wears - a guessed scent is still a guess at any price.
Car fragrance · ₹449 to ₹549 The strongest choice when you cannot name a scent, because a car needs no opinion about his taste. Hanging or spray at the same price, and refills at ₹399 to ₹429 if he already owns the bottle. It fails for a father who barely drives, and the spray is the wrong format for somebody who dislikes insistent scent in a closed car.
A 50ml reed diffuser · ₹749 to ₹849 The right size when he is home most hours of the day and the room he sits in has never been scented. About 6 to 10 weeks, nothing to plug in. It fails if you aim it at a formal living room out of habit, and the 130ml from ₹1,249 is too much for the small room these usually belong in.
Anything above ₹3,000 · including SOSA Safar at ₹3,999 This is the row to read twice. A large object starts its own conversation about cost and obligation, and on a thank-you that conversation replaces yours. SOSA Safar is a waterless, cordless, rechargeable cold-diffusion car and travel perfume diffuser and a good gift for a father who genuinely drives for hours - but if the reason you are looking at it is to match the size of the thank-you, buy the ₹449 bottle and write a better note.
SOSA oud hanging car perfume, Rs 509
The gap in most fathers lives
Car fragrance is the category he has never bothered to solve for himself
Nine scents from ₹449 to ₹549, each available in a mild hanging format and a stronger spray at the same price. Hanging refills are ₹399 to ₹429 for somebody who already owns the bottle, saver combos are ₹899 to ₹949, and a three-mini Discovery Set is ₹699 to ₹799 if you would rather he picked. For a father who commutes, this is the most-used thing on the page.
See the car fragrance range →

On sizes: 3ml rather than 6ml or 12ml, hanging rather than spray, 50ml rather than 130ml. That is not a budget instruction, it is a fit one. The 12ml attar at ₹1,149 to ₹1,199 is a six-month supply and a long commitment to a guess; the 3ml at ₹379 to ₹399 is a complete thing that gets finished, which is exactly what you want from something handed over with a sentence attached. If he already uses a SOSA car fragrance and has run it down, the hanging refills at ₹399 to ₹429 are the most observant version of this whole page - small, obviously noticed, and impossible to read as excessive.

SOSA Nawaab attar - white royal oud, Mysore sandalwood and Kashmir saffron, from Rs 399
White royal oud with Mysore sandalwood and Kashmir saffron. Alcohol-free oil, rolled on rather than sprayed - the format a father who grew up on attar already knows how to wear.
₹399 · 3ml, 6ml and 12ml
SOSA sandalwood hanging car perfume, Rs 479
Nine scents from ₹449 to ₹549, each in a mild hanging format and a stronger spray at the same price. The one category most fathers have never bothered to solve for themselves.
from ₹449 · hanging or spray
SOSA Safar waterless cordless car and travel perfume diffuser, Rs 3,999
Waterless, cordless, rechargeable cold diffusion for a car or a travel bag. The right gift only for a father who genuinely drives for hours or travels constantly.
₹3,999
When it is the first salary, the big thank-you, or his business premises
SOSA Safar ₹3,999 for the car, SOSA Vaayu ₹11,999 for the whole home
Safar is the waterless, cordless, rechargeable cold-diffusion perfume diffuser for a car or a travel bag - ₹3,999 for the SOSA-scent trios and ₹4,499 for the hotel-inspired trios. Vaayu is the machine version of the same idea for a building: waterless cold-air nebulising of undiluted oil, rated for approximately 1000 m3 of connected air, with a Bluetooth app and timer, a 400ml tank, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounting, DC 12V / 1A 5W mains power and CE, RoHS and SGS marks. Both run waterless nebuliser oil - 100 gm ₹1,049, 300 gm ₹1,849 - and neither takes the ₹299 water-based Hotel Collection bottle. A rating assumes one connected body of air, so a Vaayu suits a large open home or a business and is the wrong gift for a two-bedroom flat with every door closed. It adds a scent to a space; it does not remove one.

Spend ten minutes on the sentence and about a thousand rupees on the object, in that order. The reverse is the commonest mistake here.
— Sonal Sahani, SOSA

The SOSA gifting range

Three questions settle almost every father gift. Will it be worn, in which case it is a taste decision and you need to be able to finish the sentence he usually wears something with...? Does it go in his car, where the only real choice is between the mild hanging format and the stronger spray at the same price, and where the gift is noticed every single morning? Or does it sit in a room, which is the answer for a retired father or one who works from home, and which asks nothing of you except knowing which room he actually sits in? Answer that first, then pick the band - because the commonest mistake here is spending more to cover up not knowing.

The SOSA gifting range
Pick by where his day happens, then by budget - in that order
Gift What it is Who it suits Price
SOSA attars Alcohol-free roll-on oil Nawaab is the oud one and Ameeri the rose-and-sandalwood one - the traditional formats most Indian fathers already recognise from ₹379
SOSA Attar Trio Pack of three attars Ameeri, Nawaab and Mastani in one box - for when you cannot name what he wears from ₹1,055
SOSA car fragrance Hanging or spray Nine scents, each in a mild hanging format and a stronger spray at the same price - the gap in most fathers' lives from ₹449
SOSA Safar Waterless car and travel diffuser Cordless, rechargeable cold diffusion for a father who genuinely drives for hours or lives out of a suitcase ₹3,999
SOSA reed diffusers Passive home fragrance Five scents in 50ml and 130ml, nothing to plug in or switch off, about 6 to 10 weeks - the retired-father answer from ₹749
SOSA reed duo sets Two reeds in one box Day & Night, Fresh & Grounded and Warmth & Bloom - a gift to both parents rather than one from ₹1,498
SOSA Vaayu Waterless cold-air machine Approx 1000 m3 of connected air with a Bluetooth app and timer - a large home or his business premises ₹11,999

Three different fluids run through this range and none of them is interchangeable. Reed diffusers use their own alcohol-free reed oil. The SOSA ultrasonics - Boond ₹899, Sukoon ₹1,899 and Megh ₹3,499 - run the water-based Hotel Collection from ₹299. Vaayu and Safar run waterless nebulising oil, so the ₹299 water-based bottle never goes into either of them. SOSA blends are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

A note from Sonal

A striking number of the messages we get start the same way: my father says he doesn't want anything. In my experience that sentence almost never means what it says. It usually means do not spend money on me, which is a different instruction entirely, and it is one you can actually follow. The gift that works is small, it is used up rather than kept, and it goes somewhere he already is. That is why so much of what I recommend for fathers costs between ₹379 and ₹1,000, and why I am perfectly happy to talk somebody out of the bigger box.

The second thing I say is: look at his car. An Indian father who commutes has a space that belongs entirely to him, that he spends more waking hours in than any room of the house, and that he has almost certainly never spent a rupee on making pleasant. A ₹449 hanging bottle is noticed on the first morning and every morning after, which is more than most gifts three times the price manage. If he does not drive, look at what he wears - and if he has worn sandalwood or oud his whole life, an attar is not a novelty to him, it is the format he grew up with.

One honest caution about the first-salary gift, because we see it often and it is lovely. The instinct is to spend the whole feeling in one purchase, and to buy the most expensive thing in the range to make the point. The point does not need an expensive object to be made. Most fathers I hear about kept the small thing and mentioned the amount for years. Spend it on accuracy - the right scent, the right format, the right place - and put whatever is left back in your own account, which is a thing he would approve of more than the gift.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best thank-you gift for a father?
Something small, consumable and aimed at his routine, handed over with the sentence you actually want to say. A 3ml attar at Rs 379 to Rs 399 if you can name what he wears, car fragrance at Rs 449 to Rs 549 if he drives, or a 50ml reed diffuser at Rs 749 to Rs 849 if he is home most of the day.
Does SOSA include a printed card or a note with the order?
No. SOSA does not enclose a printed card and does not offer a note-with-the-order service. The only branding available is a custom label or logo on the product itself, which is a bulk and corporate arrangement. Write what you want to say yourself and send it separately, or say it when you hand the gift over.
How much should a thank-you gift cost?
Think of it as a ceiling rather than a floor. Around Rs 1,000 is enough, and above that the object tends to start its own conversation about cost and obligation. The cheapest real standalone gift in the SOSA range is a 3ml attar at Rs 379; the Rs 299 Hotel Collection bottle is fuel for an ultrasonic machine rather than a gift on its own.
Is it strange to give something small as a thank-you?
It is the format that keeps the focus on what you are saying. A small consumable is handed over, used and finished; a large object has to be accommodated and accounted for. If you want the gesture to read as considered, put the effort into matching it to his actual week rather than into the size of the box.
Should I buy SOSA Safar to mark something significant?
Only if he genuinely drives for hours or travels constantly. It is Rs 3,999, or Rs 4,499 for the hotel-inspired trios, and it is a waterless, cordless, rechargeable cold-diffusion car and travel perfume diffuser. If the reason you are considering it is to match the scale of the thank-you rather than his week, a Rs 449 hanging bottle is the better buy.

If you can name what he already wears, a 3ml attar from ₹379. If you cannot, car fragrance from ₹449 for the space he is in every morning, or a 50ml reed diffuser from ₹749 if he is home all day. Keep the ceiling at about ₹1,000 and send the words separately, since nothing printed comes in the box. Tell SOSA about him on WhatsApp and you will get one recommendation rather than a list.
Not sure which one suits the person you are buying for? Send SOSA their age, whether they drive, whether they like their home scented and your budget on WhatsApp, and you will get an honest answer - including when the cheaper product is the better gift.
