Hotels, spas, five-star lobbies: the Sukoon ₹1,899, with three 15ml Hotel Collection scents in the box.
A small room, a desk, a first machine: the Boond ₹899.
They drive a great deal: the Safar ₹3,999, or a car perfume ₹449–₹1,499.
They own a business, showroom or clinic: the Vaayu ₹11,999.
They wear fragrance: a 6ml or 12ml attar ₹669–₹1,199.
A long list at a modest level: a message-free jar candle ₹379, or ₹664 for two.
The honest gaps: no gift card, no verified gift wrap or gift note, no gift hamper or curated gift set, no room spray, no hotel-inspired reed diffuser, no corporate or bulk programme.
2. If nothing specific applies, buy a reed diffuser. It is the default for good reasons: it needs no plug, no water, no flame and no switch, it runs 6–8 weeks at 50ml and 14–18 at 130ml, and it cannot be used wrongly by somebody who has never owned home fragrance. ₹749–₹849 for a 50ml, ₹1,249–₹1,349 for a 130ml, six fibre reeds and a refillable glass bottle in every one.
3. Set the amount from the relationship, using the ladder. Courtesy ₹379–₹749 for neighbours and long lists. Considered ₹749–₹1,349 for friends and most people. Substantial ₹1,498–₹1,899 for parents, siblings, in-laws and a spouse. Premium ₹2,498–₹3,999 where the relationship genuinely carries it. Exceptional ₹11,999 for someone whose business the gift will actually serve. The most common error is not spending too little; it is spending at the wrong rung, which makes a neighbour uncomfortable or an in-law feel short-changed.
4. Choose the scent last, and default to soft. Evening Calm at ₹799 is the safest bottle in the range to send blind — 8.9 on the SOSA strength scale, the softest thing we make, no cultural loading. Mountain Breeze at ₹849 is the best answer for someone hard to buy for. Garden Bloom at ₹799 only when you know they like flowers, and Fresh Brew at ₹849 only for a coffee lover.
5. Know what we do not have before you start. No gift card. No verified gift wrap, gift note or personalisation. No gift hamper, gift box or curated gift set — a duo at ₹1,498–₹1,598 is two bottles and I will not call it a hamper. No room spray, because every SOSA spray is a car perfume. No hotel-inspired reed diffuser, because those scents are ultrasonic-only. No oud, sandalwood, vetiver or amber reed. And no corporate or bulk programme, so a long list is simply a set of individual orders.
Everything is alcohol-free, phthalate-free, paraben-free, IFRA-compliant and 0 ppm formaldehyde, composed in Pune by an ISIPCA Versailles-trained perfumer. Free shipping above ₹499, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
The three decisions, in order — and only in this order
Almost every difficult Diwali gift decision becomes easy once it is broken into three, taken in sequence. Space, then tier, then scent. People habitually do it backwards — they start with the scent because it is the pleasant part, then discover the format does not suit the household, then adjust the budget to compensate. Done in the right order, the third decision is nearly always trivial, because by then the first two have narrowed the range to two or three bottles.
Morning Freshness₹749Not their favourite room — the space they are genuinely in. For most people that is a flat, and a reed is the answer: 50ml at ₹749–₹849 for rooms up to about 150 sq ft, 130ml at ₹1,249–₹1,349 above that. For a person with a two-hour commute it is a car, and the answer is the Safar ₹3,999. For someone who owns a showroom it is a commercial volume, and the answer is the Vaayu ₹11,999. And for somebody who wears fragrance, the space in question is not a space at all — it is skin, and the answer is an attar. Machines are sold on closed air volume rather than floor area; the Vaayu's 1000 m³ is a volume figure and should never be converted into square feet.
Warmth & Bloom duo₹1,598The ladder is set out in full below, but the principle is worth stating on its own: a gift can be wrong by being too large as easily as by being too small. A neighbour who receives something at ₹1,899 now has a problem, because a courtesy has become a debt they must discharge inside the same week. A close sibling who receives a ₹379 candle reads it accurately as an afterthought. Get the rung right and the specific product almost chooses itself: courtesy is a candle or one ₹749 reed, considered is a 50ml or 130ml reed, substantial is a duo or the Sukoon, premium is a 130ml duo or the Safar, exceptional is the Vaayu.
Evening Calm₹799Four criteria decide whether a scent is safe to send blind: low strength, low polarisation, room-agnostic, and no cultural or memory loading. Evening Calm at ₹799 clears all four and is the bottle I would repeat across a whole list. Mountain Breeze at ₹849 is the best gift for someone hard to buy for and the least gendered thing we make. Garden Bloom at ₹799 is our most-gifted floral and a lovely present when you know they like flowers — but anti-floral is a firmly held position and it is not a blind buy. Fresh Brew at ₹849, 9.5 and the deepest thing we make, is superb for a coffee lover and the least safe thing to send someone you do not know.
The complete routing table — every recipient, every answer
This is the table the whole guide is built on. Read down the left column until you find the person you are buying for, then buy what is on the right. Where two rows both describe them, take the more specific: what somebody does with most of their day beats where they happen to live.
| The recipient | The right SOSA answer | Why it fits | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lives in a flat, wants the home to smell good ★ | Reed diffuser, or a duo for two rooms | No socket, no water, no maintenance — 6–8 weeks at 50ml, 14–18 at 130ml | ₹749–₹1,349 · duo ₹1,498–₹1,598 |
| Loves hotels, spas, five-star lobbies | Sukoon — 500ml, 270–320 sq ft, 16–18h on low, three 15ml scents included | The hotel-inspired scents are ultrasonic-only; there is no hotel-inspired reed | ₹1,899 |
| Small room, a desk, a bedside, a first machine | Boond — 300ml, up to ~150 sq ft, ~6 hours, USB, colour night light | The least expensive honest way into the hotel-inspired scents | ₹899 |
| Wants long runtime, or winter humidity | Megh — 6 litre tank, roughly 100 hours of runtime | A runtime and humidity machine at 215 sq ft — never a coverage upgrade on the Sukoon | ₹3,499 |
| Drives a great deal, long commute, loves the car | Safar — waterless, cordless, rechargeable cold-air | A car product, not a room product. A reed has no business in this answer | ₹3,999 · car perfumes ₹449–₹1,499 |
| Owns a business, showroom, clinic, office or villa | Vaayu — waterless cold-air, 1000 m³, Bluetooth app and timer | Scent is the cheapest fixture in a first-impression space. A volume figure, not a floor area | ₹11,999 |
| A very large commercial space | Aangan or Meenar — HVAC nebulising | ~8,000–10,000 sq ft and 12,000–18,000 sq ft respectively. Genuinely commercial | ₹25,999 · ₹38,500 |
| Wears fragrance, wants something personal | A 6ml or 12ml attar, or a solid perfume | The 3ml is a token; 6ml and 12ml read as a real gift | ₹379–₹1,199 · solids ₹459–₹549 |
| Smaller budget, long list, or wants something to light | Jar candle — Bookshop, Cozy Corner, Misty Mornings, Evening Walks | Message-free and correct for neighbours, colleagues and in-laws. 15–18 hours, honestly | ₹379 single · ₹664 two-pack |
Choosing the scent — the five reeds, ranked for gifting
There are five reed scents and that is the entire line; there is nothing hidden behind a menu. All five share the same construction, which is the part that matters more than the note list: a heat-stable CCT carrier, coconut-derived, rather than the DPG most diffusers sit on, which cracks above about 40°C and is the mechanism behind a bottle going sour or bitter in a hot Indian room. Six fibre reeds rather than rattan, because rattan clogs in humidity and produces the fade-then-nothing pattern people blame on the oil. A refillable glass bottle. Alcohol-free, phthalate-free, paraben-free, IFRA-compliant, 0 ppm formaldehyde, and climate-tested through 45°C heat soak and 85% monsoon humidity.
On the SOSA strength scale the order runs: Evening Calm 8.9 — the softest — then Garden Bloom 8.9 as the floral, Morning Freshness 9.0 as the bright one, Mountain Breeze 9.4 as the deep woody, and Fresh Brew 9.5 as the warm-deep gourmand and the deepest thing in the range. For gifting that scale is more useful than the note list, because the commonest complaint about a gifted fragrance is not that it was the wrong smell but that it was too much of one. When in doubt go down the scale rather than sideways along it, and remember that reed count is a free second adjustment — three reeds instead of six roughly halves the projection and extends the bottle.
The five in gifting order. Evening Calm ₹799 — Kashmir lavender, chamomile, soft musk — the safest blind buy and the bottle to repeat across a list of people you know unequally. Mountain Breeze ₹849 — Himalayan pine, sage, Indian cedar — for the hard-to-buy-for, for a study, and for a household of mixed tastes. Morning Freshness ₹749 — Malabar lemon, peppermint, eucalyptus globulus — bright, and the only one I would put in a kitchen, because citrus complements cooking where a floral argues with it. Garden Bloom ₹799 — British rose and night-blooming jasmine — when you know they like flowers, and superb at an entrance. Fresh Brew ₹849 — Coorg coffee, Kerala vanilla, soft caramel — for a coffee lover and nobody else.
The full Diwali gift ladder — and where to stop
The ladder converts a relationship into an amount, which is the second half of the decision and the half people find hardest to say out loud. Each rung below names the relationships it belongs to and the products that sit on it. The last row is what we do not sell, in full.
| Rung | Who it is for | What to buy | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. Courtesy | Neighbours, a long list, a visit where a gift is expected but modest | A message-free jar candle ₹379 or the two-pack ₹664, a 3ml attar, a car perfume, or Morning Freshness at ₹749 | ₹379–₹749 |
| 2. Considered ★ | Friends, colleagues, cousins — the workhorse rung, and most of your list | One 50ml reed (Evening Calm ₹799 is the safest) or a 130ml, or a 6ml attar | ₹749–₹1,349 |
| 3. Substantial | Parents, siblings, in-laws, a spouse, a close friend | A duo ₹1,498–₹1,598, a 12ml attar ₹1,149–₹1,199, or the Sukoon ₹1,899 | ₹1,498–₹1,899 |
| 4. Premium | Where the relationship genuinely carries it, and the recipient's life justifies it | A 130ml duo ₹2,498–₹2,598, the attar trio ₹3,189, or the Safar ₹3,999 | ₹2,498–₹3,999 |
| 5. Exceptional | Someone who owns a business, showroom, clinic or villa the gift will serve | The Vaayu ₹11,999; above it Aangan ₹25,999 and Meenar ₹38,500 | ₹11,999 and up |
| The honest gaps: the nearest real thing | There is no gift card. No verified gift wrap, gift note or personalisation. No gift hamper, gift box or curated gift set — the duo is a two-bottle product and I will not call it a hamper. No room spray or home spray: every SOSA spray is a car perfume. No hotel-inspired reed diffuser; those scents are ultrasonic-only. No oud, sandalwood, vetiver or amber reed, and no aquatic, clean-linen or musk-led reed — Nawaab ₹399 is a personal attar, not a reed. No corporate or bulk gifting programme, no bulk rate and no custom branding. And no reed diffuser appears in any gifting collection, so link to product pages rather than to a collection | Listed in one place so you can stop looking | Duo ₹1,498–₹1,598 · Sukoon ₹1,899 · Nawaab attar from ₹399 |
Everything SOSA does not sell — the list, in one place
A guide that only lists what a shop stocks is a catalogue. Here is the other half, because during a festive season these are the things readers most often go looking for and it costs everybody less if they find the answer here. There is no gift card, no store credit and no voucher. There is no verified gift wrap, no gift note or message field and no personalisation, so nothing on this site should be assumed to arrive wrapped or inscribed. There is no gift hamper, gift box or curated gift set of reed diffusers; the nearest thing is a duo at ₹1,498–₹1,598, which is two bottles. And there is no corporate or bulk gifting programme, no bulk rate, no custom branding and no minimum-order scheme, so a list of thirty colleagues is thirty ordinary orders.
On the product side: there is no room spray or home spray. Every spray SOSA makes is a car perfume, ₹449–₹1,499, all alcohol-free. There is no hotel-inspired reed diffuser, because the seven inspired-by scents — The Ritz-Carlton-inspired, Westin-inspired, 1 Hotels-inspired, The St. Regis-inspired, Shangri-La-inspired, Four Seasons-inspired and W Hotels-inspired — are water-based and go only into an ultrasonic machine. SOSA is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to any hotel brand, and none of those scents is a hotel's actual fragrance; they are our own interpretations and we write them as "-inspired" every time. Anyone who wants that smell needs the Sukoon ₹1,899 or the Boond ₹899.
And within the reed line: no oud, no sandalwood, no vetiver, no amber, no orange blossom or neroli, no aquatic, marine or ozonic scent, no clean-linen or cotton accord, and no musk as a lead note — soft musk appears only as a drydown in Evening Calm and Garden Bloom. If a recipient wants oud, the nearest honest answer is Nawaab from ₹399, which is a skin fragrance and does not make an oud reed exist. If they want something dry and resinous, Mountain Breeze. If they want soft clean skin, Evening Calm. I would rather name each gap and offer the nearest real thing than stretch a scent to cover a request it does not answer.
Versailles
I trained at ISIPCA in Versailles and came home to Pune to make fragrance for Indian rooms, which are hotter, more humid and more open than the rooms most reference formulations assume. That is why our reeds sit on a heat-stable CCT carrier rather than DPG and why they ship with fibre reeds rather than rattan — not as features to list, but because those two decisions are the difference between a bottle that fades honestly and one that turns bitter in May.
The reason this guide is built as a routing table rather than a list of bestsellers is that I have watched too many good gifts land badly for structural reasons. The reed line is the part of SOSA I am proudest of and it is still not the right answer for everybody. A person who spends three hours a day in a car should get the Safar. A person who owns a showroom should get the Vaayu. A person who wears fragrance should get a 6ml attar and not a bottle for their hall.
If you take one habit from this page, take the order of operations: space, then tier, then scent. And if you take one product, take Evening Calm at ₹799, which is the bottle I send when I know least about somebody and the one I have never once regretted sending. Everything is composed in Pune, and a part of every order funds a girl's classroom through Nanhi Kali.
