Yes. That is the whole answer, and the whole brief for this vertical. The trouble starts with the next question, which nobody asks: what does a beautiful home actually smell like? Because a beautiful home and a scented home are two different rooms, and most showrooms that try for the first end up with the second.
Quick answers — read this first
Should a luxury appliance showroom smell like a beautiful home? Yes - the best appliance showrooms are designed as kitchens and living rooms, and the air should agree with the architecture. But be precise about what a beautiful home smells of: clean surfaces, dry wood, linen, a little tea or green, air that has moved, with nothing announcing itself. That is a dry register - cedar, sage, tea, a clean mineral note, or lemon-mint on a white floor - held so low that a visitor cannot name it.
What is the difference between a beautiful home and a scented home? A scented home is one where somebody has lit a candle: vanilla, amber, a bouquet, something you notice at the door and can name. A beautiful home is one where nothing has been added and everything has been kept - you notice that it smells good without being able to say of what. A showroom designed to look like the second should not smell like the first. Candles, vanilla and sweet ambers read as a shop that sells scent, not a home that someone lives in well.
What is the honest way to get there? Fix the smells a home never has - new plastic, warm dust, cardboard, sealed overnight air - then add one dry register held low. Under about 750 sq ft, a SOSA Mountain Breeze reed (Rs 849) at the desk. From about 1,500 sq ft, one SOSA Vaayu (Rs 11,999), waterless, set with the team and key-locked at a level nobody at the desk can name; the live kitchen and coffee counter unscented. Past 3,000 sq ft, one SOSA Angaan (Rs 25,999). Fragrance is an interiors decision like lighting; SOSA makes no claim that it changes footfall, dwell time or sales, and no claim about what it does to any appliance.
The short answer
Short answer: yes - and a beautiful home smells of cedar, linen, tea and moved air with nothing announcing itself, which is a dry register held so low it cannot be named. A scented home smells of candles and vanilla, and a showroom designed as a home should never smell like one.
The pick: one SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) held low and locked for a connected floor of roughly 1,500-3,000 sq ft; one Mountain Breeze reed (₹849) at the desk below that, Morning Freshness (₹749) for a white floor; one SOSA Angaan (₹25,999) past about 3,000 sq ft.
Next step: tell us what the floor smells of at opening time and what the fronts and worktops are made of; we will say which of the home's notes belongs in your air and how low - ask for a showroom scenting plan.
Should a luxury appliance showroom smell like a beautiful home?
Yes, and I would go further: it is the only brief that makes sense for this vertical. The best appliance showrooms in the country are no longer built as electronics stores. They are built as kitchens with islands you could cook at and living rooms with a screen on the wall and a sofa in front of it, because a homeowner specifying a kitchen wants to stand in one. The air should agree with the architecture. If the building says home and the air says shop, the air wins, and the visitor knows something is off without being able to say what. So far, easy. The hard part is the next question, which almost nobody asks before buying a fragrance: what does a beautiful home actually smell like? Here is the distinction the whole page rests on. There are two kinds of home that smell good. The first is a scented home: someone has lit a candle or put a diffuser by the door, and you meet it on the threshold - vanilla, a soft amber, a bouquet of something. You can name it. You might ask where they bought it. The second is a beautiful home, which is a house that has been kept rather than perfumed. It smells of clean surfaces, of wood that has been polished, of linen, of a little tea or something green from the kitchen window, of air that has moved recently. You notice that it smells good, and if pressed you could not say of what. Nothing announces itself. A showroom designed as a home wants the second, and nearly every showroom that tries ends up with the first, because the first is what you can buy in a bottle that smells expensive on a blotter. Translate the beautiful home into a register and it is dry and quiet: cedar, sage, dry woods, tea, a linen-adjacent mineral cleanness - in the SOSA range, Mountain Breeze - or, on a white, glass, handleless floor, lemon and mint, Morning Freshness, which is the same home with the windows open. Nothing sweet, because sweetness is the candle. Nothing edible in a kitchen-appliance showroom, because the hob and the coffee counter own food smells and a beautiful home does not smell of dinner at ten in the morning. Nothing heavily floral, because that is the bouquet on the hall table, and it belongs to the scented home. Then the level, which matters more than the note. A beautiful home is un-nameable because it is faint. So the setting is found with the floor team, from the specification table at five in the afternoon, and taken down until nobody standing at the desk can say what the room smells of - only that it smells kept. Hard surfaces make this stricter: steel, glass, stone and lacquer bounce fragrance, and a showroom has no curtains or rugs to absorb it, so the same setting that reads as a home in a house reads as a shop on your floor. Before any of this, the house has to be clean. A beautiful home never smells of new plastic, warm dust, cardboard or sealed overnight air, and a fragrance over any of those is the perfumed version of a house that has not been kept. How to make an appliance showroom smell more luxurious is the subtraction in full. The machine is the smallest part. Under about 750 sq ft a reed at the desk, ₹749 or ₹849. From about 1,500 sq ft of connected floor, one SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999: waterless, so no moisture and no residue on the displays; adjustable intensity so it can be taken down to un-nameable; a key-lock so it stays there on a Saturday; a timer so it is off while the live kitchen runs. Past about 3,000 sq ft, one SOSA Angaan at ₹25,999. What a premium home-appliance showroom should smell like is the family's baseline; how to choose a signature scent for a premium appliance brand is the method. And the frame: fragrance is an interiors and hospitality decision, like lighting or music. SOSA makes no claim that it changes footfall, dwell time, conversion or sales, and no claim about what it does to any appliance or finish on display. It is never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or extraction, and the live kitchen and coffee counter stay unscented. Ask for a showroom scenting plan.
Yes - and a beautiful home smells of cedar, linen and tea with nothing announcing itself, not of candles and vanilla. Mountain Breeze (Rs 849) or Morning Freshness (Rs 749) at the desk; Vaayu (Rs 11,999) from about 1,500 sq ft, held so low nobody can name it; the live kitchen unscented.
A home's register, held so low nobody at the desk can name it: one SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999, waterless, with the adjustable intensity to get there and the key-lock to stay there, for up to 1000m³ of connected floor.
A home's register is carried by a reed at a desk or a Vaayu across a floor, and in either case the setting is the point. The images link to the product pages so every figure below can be checked.
A home's register, held low - from about 1,500 sq ft
Waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³ - about 2,000-3,000 sq ft - on one unit, Rs 11,999. Adjustable intensity so the level can be taken down to the point nobody can name it; key-lock so it stays there; 1h/4h/8h/24h timer so it is off while the live kitchen runs. No water, so nothing added to the air of a room of steel and glass; under 38dB; wall or HVAC mount.
Himalayan pine, sage and Indian cedar - polished wood, a swept floor, something green. Alcohol-free, coconut-derived base, six fibre reeds; use three on a floor of glass and steel. 50ml Rs 849 lasts 6-8 weeks at a reception desk; 130ml Rs 1,349 lasts 14-18 weeks. Reaches one desk zone. Nothing to plug in.
1000m³ coverage (about 2,000-3,000 sq ft) on a single unit, Rs 11,999, adjustable intensity, 400ml tank running 90+ days a fill, Bluetooth app and 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, key-lock. Waterless - no moisture, no residue on displays. Wall or HVAC mount. CE, RoHS, SGS certified. Made in India.
The four things a beautiful home smells of - and the one it never does
Walk through a house that is kept beautifully and take it apart by the nose. Four things are there, one thing is conspicuously absent, and a showroom needs all five facts.
1
Wood
Polished timber, a swept floor - the cedar in the register
The first thing a kept house smells of is its own wood: a polished table, a timber floor that has been swept, a cupboard door that has been opened. It is dry, faintly sweet only in the way that sawdust is, and it is the note the rest of the register is built around. In the SOSA range that is the cedar and pine in Mountain Breeze, kept dry by the sage. On a showroom floor built of walnut, oak, travertine and dark glass, wood in the air and wood in the room read as one material, which is exactly the effect. The mistake is to warm it: an amber or a tonka added to cedar turns polished timber into a scented candle within a week, and the house stops being kept and starts being perfumed. What scent direction works with a dark, ultra-modern display is the dark-floor version of the same rule.
Mountain Breeze - pine, sage and cedar. Polished wood and a swept floor, in a bottle, at the desk.
The second thing is cleanness - not detergent, but the absence of anything stale. Linen that has dried outside, a worktop that has been wiped, a room where the window was open an hour ago. It is the hardest note to buy because it is mostly an absence, and the way a showroom gets it is by subtraction first: no new plastic on the floor, no warm dust on the vents, no cardboard through the store door, no sealed overnight air. A fragrance over any of those is the smell of a house that has been sprayed rather than cleaned. On a white, glass, handleless floor the cleanness can be carried by a note - Morning Freshness, lemon, mint and eucalyptus, is a white kitchen with the window open - but on a warm floor it comes from the cleaning schedule, not the bottle. Why a premium showroom still smells like an electronics store is the list.
Rule: the linen note cannot be added. It has to be uncovered.
3
Tea and green
The small living things on a windowsill
The third thing is the trace of life in a kept house: tea in a pot, herbs on the sill, a cut stem in water. It is green and slightly bitter and very faint, and it is what stops a dry register from smelling like a timber yard. In a showroom it is the sage in the cedar, the eucalyptus in the lemon - a small green facet that reads as somebody living here well. It is never a bouquet. Rose, jasmine and tuberose are the flowers on the hall table of a scented home, and on a floor of appliances they read as a candle shop. If the floor already smells of coffee from a tasting counter, that counter stays unscented and the green facet stays away from it; coffee is a demonstration and the most fragrance-sensitive tasting there is. What fragrance fits a showroom selling high-end home technology calls this register quiet competence, which is a good name for it.
Test: a facet, not a flower. If a visitor could ask what the flowers are, it is a scented home.
4
Nothing announcing itself
The level that makes a home beautiful rather than perfumed
The fourth thing is the one that separates the two kinds of home more than any note: in a beautiful home, nothing announces itself. You notice that it smells good; you cannot say of what. That is a level, and it is much lower than a showroom's first instinct. Find it with the floor team, from the specification table at five in the afternoon, and take the setting down until nobody at the desk can name the room - only that it smells kept. Hard surfaces force this further down: steel, glass, stone and lacquer bounce fragrance around and there is no curtain or rug to absorb any of it, so a setting that reads as a home in a house reads as a shop on your floor. Then the key-lock goes on, because levels on a shop floor only ever drift upward and a Saturday advisor who thinks it is faint is the beginning of the scented home. The Vaayu has the adjustable intensity to get there and the lock to stay there. How strong fragrance should be inside an experience centre is this card in full.
The Vaayu can be taken down to un-nameable and locked there, on a timer, waterless.
A beautiful home is not cooking at ten in the morning
The fifth fact is the one a beautiful home never smells of when guests arrive: dinner. A house that is kept well does not smell of food at the wrong hour, and a kitchen-appliance showroom has the same rule with one twist - at the right hour, when the live kitchen is running or the coffee counter is pouring, the food smell is the demonstration and it owns the air. Fragrance stops at the edge of the demo zone, the machine is on the reception side and off on its timer while a demonstration runs, extraction clears the room afterwards, and the home's register returns only when the room smells of nothing. That is also why nothing edible ever goes into the register itself - no vanilla, coffee or spice - because a beautiful home does not smell of a bakery at ten in the morning, and a demonstration should not have to compete with one. Should an appliance showroom with a live kitchen use commercial fragrance carries the rule for the cluster.
Rule: the register smells of the house, never of the meal. The meal belongs to the hob, and only while the hob is lit.
The SOSA principle
A luxury appliance showroom should smell like a beautiful home, and a beautiful home is one that has been kept rather than perfumed - cedar, linen, tea, and nothing anyone can name.
The scented home is what you can buy on a blotter. The beautiful home is what is left when the wrong smells are gone and the right one is held low.
A kept house, at the desk of a studio: Mountain Breeze, ₹849 for 50ml, cedar, sage and pine - three reeds on a floor of glass and steel.
Here are the two kinds of home side by side, note by note, so the difference is something you can check on your own floor rather than take on trust.
The SOSA distinction
A scented home and a beautiful home, side by side
What you meet
Scented home, or beautiful home
Vanilla, caramel, a warm amber at the door
Scented home. A candle you can name; on a floor of appliances, a perfume counter; in a kitchen showroom, competition for the hob.
A bouquet - rose, jasmine, something floral in the hall
Scented home. The flowers on the table; on a floor of steel and glass, a candle shop.
Polished wood, a swept floor, a little sage
Beautiful home. The cedar and pine of Mountain Breeze on a walnut, stone or dark-glass floor, held low. View →
Linen, a window that was open, something green
Beautiful home. On a white, glass floor, the lemon and mint of Morning Freshness; on a warm floor, the cleaning schedule. View →
Something good you cannot name
Beautiful home - and the level that makes it one. Found with the team, taken down to un-nameable, locked on the Vaayu. View →
Dinner, at ten in the morning
Neither. A kept house does not smell of the meal at the wrong hour, and a showroom's register never contains food; when the live kitchen runs, the meal owns the air and the fragrance is off.
Three sibling pages take the pieces further: fresh, woody or hotel-like decides which of the home's notes leads on your finishes, what customers should smell when they enter is the first ninety seconds of walking into the house, and how the centre should smell when luxury-home clients visit is what happens when the visitor already has a scented home of their own. SOSA makes no claim that any of this changes footfall, dwell time, conversion or sales, and no claim about what it does to any appliance or finish on display.
The home's register across the whole floor: SOSA Vaayu, ₹11,999, waterless, 1000m³, adjustable intensity, key-lock, off on the timer while the live kitchen runs.
A kept house, not a perfumed one - held so low nobody can name it
SOSA Vaayu ₹11,999 carries cedar-sage or lemon-mint across 1,500-3,000 sq ft, taken down to un-nameable and locked. Send the plan and the finishes; we will name the note and the level.
A scented home is one where someone lit a candle. A beautiful home is one where someone kept the house. Your showroom is built to look like the second, so do not make it smell like the first.
— Sonal Sahani, SOSA
The ladder, for a home's register
Reed at the desk, Sukoon in a studio, Vaayu across the floor, Angaan for the big centre
A kept house's register, carried by whatever the floor honestly needs and held at the level that keeps it un-nameable. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
The SOSA beautiful-home specification
A house that has been kept, not perfumed - sized to the floor, held low
Between 750 and 1,500 sq ft a Vaayu is bought for control, no water and distribution - never for coverage. The four 100ml bottles in the Vaayu box are the supply; confirm refill availability with SOSA before you plan around it. Fragrance is an interiors and hospitality decision like lighting or music, with no claim about footfall, dwell time, conversion or sales, and no claim about what it does to any appliance or finish. It works alongside ventilation, cleaning and extraction, never instead of them, and the live kitchen and coffee counter stay unscented. Ask for a showroom scenting plan and tell us what the floor smells of at opening time.

A note from Sonal
I trained to make fragrances that announce themselves, and it took me years in commercial spaces to learn that the best rooms are the ones where mine does not. The homes I have been in that I would call beautiful - and I have been in a few, because clients invite perfumers to dinner - did not smell of a fragrance. They smelled of polished wood and clean linen and a pot of tea somewhere, and of windows that had been open in the afternoon. If I concentrated I could pick out a cedar under it, or a green note, and I would guess at what the owner used. The point is that I had to concentrate. Nobody else at the table noticed anything except that the house was lovely.
That is the brief for an appliance showroom, and I say yes to it every time, with one warning. The scented home is what you can buy. It is on every blotter I could put in front of you, and it smells expensive for exactly as long as the blotter lasts. On your floor of steel and glass, with your hob lit and your coffee counter pouring, it turns into a candle shop by lunchtime. The beautiful home is what is left after you have taken the wrong smells out and put one dry note in so quietly that your own advisor, at five in the afternoon, cannot tell you what the room smells of. The adjustable intensity on the Vaayu is how I get it that low, and the key-lock is how it stays.
So: Mountain Breeze at the desk of a studio, or Morning Freshness if the studio is white. One Vaayu at ₹11,999 from about 1,500 sq ft of connected floor, taken down to un-nameable and locked, off while the live kitchen runs. One Angaan past 3,000. And the frame around it, as always: an interiors decision like lighting or music, with no claim that fragrance moves footfall, dwell time or sales, and no claim about what it does to anything on display. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
Frequently asked questions
What does a beautiful home actually smell of, as opposed to a scented one?
A beautiful home smells of what has been kept rather than what has been added: polished wood, a swept timber floor, clean linen, a window that was open an hour ago, tea or something green on a sill. You notice that it smells good and cannot say of what. A scented home smells of what someone lit or placed - vanilla, a warm amber, a bouquet - and you can name it at the door. A showroom designed as a home takes the first register: cedar, sage, tea, a clean mineral note, held low.
Why do candles and vanilla fragrances make an appliance showroom feel less like a home?
Because they are the smell of a home that has been perfumed rather than kept, and on a floor of steel, glass and stone they read as a perfume counter or a shop that sells candles. In a kitchen-appliance showroom they also compete with the demonstration: the hob, oven and coffee counter own food smells, and a vanilla or caramel in the air merges with what is cooking into a third smell. Sweetness is the candle. A kept house does not smell of it at ten in the morning.
How low should a home-like fragrance be set on an appliance showroom floor?
Low enough that nobody standing at the desk can name it - only that the room smells kept. Find it with the floor team from the specification table at five in the afternoon and take it down until it is un-nameable, then lock it, because levels on a shop floor only drift upward. Hard surfaces force it further down: steel, glass, stone and lacquer bounce fragrance with nothing soft to absorb it, so a setting that reads as a home in a house reads as a shop on the floor.
Does a showroom need to fix anything before it can smell like a well-kept home?
Yes, and it is most of the work. A kept house never smells of new plastic, warm dust on vents, cardboard or air that was sealed overnight, and a fragrance over any of those is the smell of a house that has been sprayed rather than cleaned. Unbox in the back store, clean the tops and vents of running displays, get cardboard out daily, run fresh air before opening. When the floor smells of nothing at opening time, one dry register held low is all that is left to add.
Is a home-like showroom fragrance meant to keep visitors on the floor longer?
SOSA makes no such claim. Making a showroom smell like a beautiful home is an interiors and hospitality decision, like the lighting temperature or the music, made because the building was designed as a home and the air should agree with it. It does not change footfall, dwell time, conversion or sales in any way SOSA will assert, and SOSA makes no claim about what the fragrance does to any appliance, screen or finish on display. The only product fact is that a waterless machine adds no moisture and leaves no residue.
