A concrete, timber and glass interior is acoustically live, thermally slow and materially honest, and those three properties change the scenting brief before any fragrance is chosen. Hard surfaces hold almost nothing, thermal mass makes the room lag the day, and a glass elevation stratifies air by mid-afternoon. The register that agrees with a room like that is dry, green and woody. A soft or powdery one contradicts the materials, and everybody who walks in feels the contradiction without naming it.
Quick answers — read this first
What fragrance suits a concrete, timber and glass interior? A dry, green, woody register with no sweetness in it. The 1 Hotels-inspired blend from SOSA - cedarwood, vetiver and green leaves - is the natural fit: fresh green leaves and earthy vetiver over warm cedarwood, which agrees with off-form concrete, oiled timber and planting instead of decorating them. It is the driest and least sweet of the seven registers. For a lighter, whiter version of the same palette, the Ritz-Carlton-inspired blend of white tea, bergamot and cedar works over the same clean cedar base. What contradicts the room is powder, vanilla, heavy florals and warm amber, all of which read as upholstery in a space that has deliberately removed upholstery.
Does a hard-surfaced interior need more fragrance or less? Less, and this surprises people. A carpeted, curtained, upholstered office absorbs fragrance into its soft surfaces and re-releases it slowly, so the room accumulates a background that is separate from whatever the machine is doing at that moment. Concrete, timber, glass and steel absorb very little, so what you put into the air is more or less what is in the air, and it clears faster when the machine stops. The practical consequence is that a hard room reads the setting more directly and rewards a lower one. It also means changes register quickly, which is useful: turn it down and the room responds within the day rather than over a fortnight.
Why does a soft or powdery scent feel wrong in a concrete studio? Because it is arguing with the room. A material palette of board-marked concrete, oiled timber and glass is a statement about honesty and restraint, and a powdery violet or a warm vanilla is the olfactory equivalent of a velvet curtain in front of it. Nobody articulates that when they walk in; they simply feel that something is off, in the same way a wrong-temperature light source reads as wrong before anyone identifies the colour temperature. Congruence between the scent and the setting is also the property that ambient scent research consistently finds matters most, which is a rare case of the evidence and the design instinct pointing the same way.
The short answer
Short answer: A concrete, timber and glass interior is acoustically live, thermally slow and materially honest, and it wants a dry green woody register: 1 Hotels-inspired cedarwood, vetiver and green leaves from Rs 299, or Ritz-Carlton-inspired white tea, bergamot and cedar for a whiter fitout. Powdery, sweet or heavily floral registers contradict the palette. Hard surfaces absorb very little, so the room reads the setting directly and rewards a lower one; a glass elevation stratifies air by afternoon, so place the machine for the occupied zone and not the volume above it. Vaayu Rs 11,999, Megh Rs 3,499, Sukoon Rs 1,899. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.
The pick: the SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) for premises to ~1000m³; reeds from ₹749 for a single room; cabin systems from ₹1,899; HVAC from ₹25,999.

Every customer-facing space hosts two audiences at once: the customer who forms an opinion in a single visit, and the staff who breathe that air for eight hours. Commercial scenting serves both with one move - a single refined fragrance, held evenly from the entrance to the far end of the floor, running on a schedule nobody has to remember. Customers experience it as "this brand has itself together"; the team gets premises that smell composed from opening to close.
Which register belongs in a studio built from concrete, timber and glass?
Four decisions, and the palette makes most of them for you. 1. Dry, green and woody. The 1 Hotels-inspired blend from the Hotel Collection (from ₹299) is the register that agrees with this room: cedarwood, vetiver and green leaves, which is fresh green leaves and earthy vetiver over warm cedarwood, and the driest and least sweet of the seven. If the fitout is whiter and glassier than it is heavy, the Ritz-Carlton-inspired blend (white tea, bergamot, cedar) is the lighter alternative over the same clean cedar base. 2. What contradicts the room. Powdery violet, warm amber, vanilla and heavy white florals all read as upholstery in a space that has deliberately removed upholstery. They are not bad blends; they are arguing with the materials, and a visitor feels that without being able to name it. 3. Less, not more. Concrete, timber, glass and steel absorb very little, so the room reads your setting almost directly instead of storing it in carpet and fabric and giving it back later. A hard interior rewards a lower level and responds to a change within a day. 4. Place it for the occupied zone. A tall glass-fronted volume stratifies: warm air rises to the soffit through the afternoon, and a machine sized and placed for the whole volume overserves the air nobody is breathing. Serve the desk-height zone, and recompute the volume from the underside of the actual soffit. Hold it with a SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999, waterless, ~1000m³, app and timer), a Megh 6L (₹3,499) in a single room, or a Sukoon (₹1,899) in a compact one. Your team is in that air ten hours a day and calibrates it; whisper level, locked. These are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations and SOSA is not affiliated with any hotel brand. What the materials do to the air in the room
Three properties of this palette change the brief: what hard surfaces do to a scent, what thermal mass and glass do to the air, and what the materials themselves already contribute.
Why this works
Why a dry green register agrees with concrete, timber and glass
The commercial standard: the SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 - waterless, app-scheduled, ~1000m³ coverage. Single rooms start on reeds from ₹749.
A hard room holds nothing, which means it needs less
Start with the property that changes the dosing. A conventional office is a soft machine: carpet, acoustic ceiling tiles, curtains, upholstered seating and fabric partitions all absorb fragrance and release it slowly, so the room accumulates a background layer that is largely independent of what the diffuser is doing at any given moment. It is also why a soft office can smell of last year's blend for weeks after you change it. A concrete, timber and glass interior does almost none of that. Off-form concrete, sealed screed, glass, steel and hard timber take up very little, so what is in the air is roughly what the machine put there, and it clears when the machine stops. Three practical consequences follow. First, this room rewards a lower setting, because nothing is soaking up the peaks and smoothing them out - you get what you set. Second, it responds fast: turn it down on Monday and the room has answered you by Tuesday, which makes calibration far easier than in a carpeted space. Third, changes of register are clean, so a practice that wants to try the lighter blend against the drier one can do so honestly. The one thing hard surfaces do accumulate is dust, which is a cleaning question and, in a studio with a cutting bench, a real one.
Tip: a soft office stores fragrance in its fabric - a hard one gives you back exactly what you set, and no more.
2
The air
Thermal mass is slow and a glass elevation stratifies
You already know how this room behaves thermally, but the scenting consequences are worth spelling out because they decide placement rather than product. Exposed concrete is thermally slow: the slab and the walls lag the day, absorbing gain through the afternoon and giving it back into the evening, which means the air temperature in the occupied zone moves less and more slowly than in a lightweight fitout. That is generally good for consistency, since evaporation and dispersion vary with temperature and a slow room is a stable room. The glass is the complication. A large south or west elevation drives solar gain and convection, and in a double-height or tall studio volume the warm air rises to the soffit and stays there, so by four in the afternoon the room is measurably stratified. A machine placed and sized for the full geometric volume is therefore serving a great deal of air that nobody is breathing. Serve the occupied zone instead: place the unit at or slightly above standing head height in the part of the floor plate people actually use, away from the direct path of a cassette or a fan coil, and let the room's own circulation distribute it. And recompute the volume honestly from the underside of the real soffit - 1,400 sq ft at a sixteen-foot soffit is 22,400 cubic feet, or about 635 cubic metres, against 14,000 cubic feet and about 397 cubic metres at ten feet.

The palette
The register is a material decision, and the wrong one is audible
A palette of board-marked or off-form concrete, oiled timber and glass is a position, not just a look: it is about honesty, restraint and letting materials be what they are. The register has to hold the same position or the room argues with itself. From the seven Hotel Collection blends (from ₹299), the 1 Hotels-inspired one is the agreement - cedarwood, vetiver and green leaves, fresh green leaves and earthy vetiver over warm cedarwood, the driest and least sweet of the set, and the only one that sounds like the room rather than like something placed in it. The Ritz-Carlton-inspired blend (white tea, bergamot, cedar) is the alternative when the fitout is whiter, glassier and lighter than it is massive, and it keeps the clean cedar base. What contradicts the room is easy to list: the St. Regis-inspired register (amber, violet, woods) is powdery, plush and evening-elegant, which is a velvet curtain in front of a concrete wall; the Four Seasons-inspired register (citrus, floral, sandalwood) is warm and creamy at the base; the Shangri-La-inspired one (jasmine, green tea, white tea) is a heady white floral; and the W Hotels-inspired one (citrus, pepper, amber) is the boldest of the seven. All are good blends in the right room. None of them is this room. We describe character only and publish no throw or longevity ranking between registers, because in practice presence is set by the machine, the setting and the volume. All are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations; SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand.
Tip: a powdery register in a board-marked concrete room is a velvet curtain in front of the thing you built.
The SOSA principle
In this palette the register is a material specification. Dry, green and woody agrees with the room; powdery and sweet argues with it - and the argument is audible to everyone who walks in.
Hard surfaces hold almost nothing, so the room reads your setting directly and rewards a lower one. Serve the occupied zone, not the volume above it.

The SOSA commercial edit
Whatever your business sells, the system logic is the same: one signature, sized to the space, scheduled so it never depends on anyone's memory. A single small room or a consultation corner can sit happily on reeds with no power at all; a customer-facing floor wants the Vaayu; a venue or a flagship wants HVAC. Every SOSA system is supported from India, and the Hotel Collection blends - SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations - run across the powered ones. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Here is the full commercial range.

Honest notes for business owners: scenting compounds a well-run premises and rescues nothing. Ventilation, air-conditioning and cleaning come first, and fragrance never substitutes for hygiene or air quality - if the air is stale, damp or smoky, fix that at the source before any scent goes in. The people most exposed to the fragrance are not your customers but your STAFF, who work eight-hour shifts in it, which is why whisper calibration and locked settings are standard on every SOSA commercial install, and any staff sensitivity report should be treated as a recalibration signal rather than a complaint. Healthcare and wellness spaces need extra restraint: keep scenting to reception and circulation areas, never treatment rooms, and the practitioner's judgement overrides anything in this guide. The Hotel Collection scents are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations; SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house, not affiliated with or endorsed by any hotel brand. Ultrasonic systems use the water-based Hotel Collection fragrance; the Vaayu and HVAC systems run waterless nebulising oil - the formats are not interchangeable. WhatsApp consult: +91 96192 18531. ISIPCA Versailles
A note from Sonal
I have walked into jewellery showrooms lit like museums, bridal boutiques with hand-embroidered walls, furniture floors styled down to the last cushion, clinics with better art than most galleries - and in almost every one of them, the air was an afterthought. Floor polish, packaging cartons, the phenyl from the morning mopping, the workshop or the loading bay drifting forward. The one thing every customer takes in before they see anything is the thing most businesses leave to chance.
I trained at ISIPCA in Versailles, where the world's scent-marketing perfumers learn the craft, and what I build for Indian businesses is the same architecture the global hospitality brands use, whatever you sell: one signature, sized to the space, run on a schedule - so the scent is as reliable as your lighting. A consultation corner may only need reeds; a full floor needs the Vaayu; a venue needs the HVAC systems. If you want it applied to your specific premises, message us on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 with the type of space and its approximate size - I read those descriptions myself.
Everything is made or assembled for Indian conditions, supported from Pune - and a part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Your brand gets a memory; a girl gets a classroom. That equation has always felt right to me.
Frequently asked questions
Our timber is freshly oiled and the concrete is new. Should we wait before scenting?
Yes, and the reason is the same one you already apply to handover. A new fitout has its own smell for a while: hardwax oil and finishes off-gas, new timber is at its most aromatic in the first weeks, sealers and adhesives are still curing, and a new slab carries a distinctly mineral smell that fades. Adding a register on top of all that means you are calibrating against a baseline that will not exist in three months, and you will end up with a setting that is wrong twice - too low now, too high later. Ventilate hard, let the room settle, and judge it cold on a morning when nothing has been running. Then start at the lowest usable setting. Practices that scent a fitout in week one almost always end up turning it down in month three.
Does an acoustically live studio have a fragrance equivalent of reverberation?
Not in a literal sense, and it is worth being careful with the analogy rather than stretching it. Sound reflects off hard surfaces and persists; fragrance does not reflect, it disperses and is carried by air movement, and hard surfaces actually shorten its life in the room by absorbing less of it. So the two behave in opposite directions: the same room that holds sound releases scent faster than a soft one. What the two do have in common is that both are governed by the volume and the air movement rather than by the source, which is why the honest answer to almost any question about presence is the machine, the setting and the room rather than the blend. If you want the quieter version of that answer: hard rooms need less fragrance and more absorption, in that order.
We have a green wall and planting in the studio. Does that conflict with a green register?
It generally supports it rather than conflicting, provided the level stays low. Cedarwood, vetiver and green leaves sits comfortably with real planting because it is describing the same family, and the two read as one thing rather than as two. What does go wrong is quantity: a well-watered green wall contributes its own humidity and its own earthy note, particularly in the hour after irrigation, and a register set as though the room were bare will feel like too much on those mornings. Set the level with the planting in the room and the irrigation recently run, not on a dry Monday. And check the obvious maintenance question, because a green wall with a drainage problem produces a damp smell that no register on any price list should be asked to sit on top of.
Is there a case for a warmer register in the evening, when the studio hosts events?
There is a legitimate case and a practical caution. The case is that a room genuinely reads differently under evening light with people in it, and a warmer register is a normal choice in hospitality for that reason. The caution is that your studio is a workplace the following morning, and a hard-surfaced room clears fast but a change of blend is still a change your team walks into at nine. If you host regularly, the cleaner solution is one register held consistently and a change in the other variables - light level, what is on the table, whether the plotter is off - rather than a second fragrance. If you want to try a warmer evening setting for a specific event, do it as an exception with the machine returned to the standard schedule afterwards, and tell the studio it is happening. WhatsApp us on +91 96192 18531 and we will talk through the practicalities.
How do I know the level is right in a room this hard?
Use the room's own responsiveness, which is the advantage a hard interior gives you. Start at the lowest usable setting and leave it for a full working week rather than adjusting it daily. Judge it cold: walk in from outside on a Monday morning before anything is running, because your assessment at four in the afternoon is worthless once you have adapted. Then ask the two people who sit closest to the machine and the person who sits furthest from it, because a hard room with a strong airflow can be uneven in a way a soft room is not. Because nothing is stored in fabric here, any change you make reports back within a day, so calibration is a matter of small steps rather than long waits. If the studio can name the fragrance at the end of the day, drop a setting.

Facts verified August 2026: Ambient scent research consistently associates pleasant, congruent scenting with improved evaluations of a space and its service, longer dwell time and stronger brand recall at moderate effect sizes; congruence (scent matching the setting) and gentle intensity outperform strong scenting in replicated studies, and no scent effect survives poor ventilation, poor cleaning or poor indoor air quality. Olfactory memory is unusually durable: scent-linked brand memories persist and retrieve for years, which is the mechanism behind signature scents. Staff exposure is the design constraint, since employees breathe the fragrance for full shifts: whisper calibration, locked settings and sensitivity accommodations are standard practice, and healthcare and wellness settings call for extra restraint. SOSA systems: alcohol-free reed diffusers from ₹749 for single rooms with no power needed; Sukoon 500ml ultrasonic (₹1,899) and Megh 6L ultrasonic (₹3,499) run the water-based Hotel Collection fragrance (from ₹299; refills from ₹999, 100ml ₹999); SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is a waterless cold-air nebulising machine, ~1000m³ coverage, Bluetooth app and timer; SOSA Aangan (₹25,999) and SOSA Meenar (₹38,500) are HVAC nebulising systems for approximately 8,000-10,000 and 12,000-18,000 sq ft respectively.
