Why per-millilitre is the wrong test for this particular purchase

Set the Pack of 7 against a 300ml bottle and it looks indefensible. Same ₹1,799, 105ml against 300ml, about ₹17 a millilitre against about ₹6. On any normal reading of value it loses by a factor of nearly three. But the two things are not competing for the same job, and comparing them is like comparing a set of paint testers with a tin of emulsion. One is bought to answer a question; the other is bought once the question is settled. The relevant test for a tester is not its rate per millilitre but whether it prevents a more expensive mistake — and in home fragrance the expensive mistake is real, because a scent you chose from a description can be entirely wrong in the room you put it in.

That mistake also scales with room count, which is what makes this a multi-room question rather than a general one. With a single machine, being wrong costs you one bottle and a slightly disappointing month. With four machines running one signature scent, being wrong means a whole house committed to something you have stopped enjoying, mixing at every open doorway, and the correction is another ₹1,799. Worse, the failure is usually partial rather than total — a fragrance that is exactly right in a living room can read as too sweet or too insistent in a bedroom where you are lying still with the door shut, and you only discover that after a week of living with it. A 15ml is roughly seventy-five tank-fills, which is two or three months on one machine: long enough to move a scent between rooms, live with it in each, and find the placement that is not obvious from the notes. How to run a seven-scent trial that actually tells you something

Give each scent a week and a room, not an evening and a sniff. A fragrance behaves differently on the third day than on the first, because your nose adapts to a constant smell within about twenty minutes and you stop noticing it entirely by the second evening — which is precisely the point. The test is not whether you notice it; it is whether you miss it when it is off, and whether the room feels wrong without it. A 15ml is roughly seventy-five tank-fills at four drops, so there is no need to be frugal with a trial.

Test in the room the scent is meant for, at the dose you will actually use. Three to four drops per tank, not six — a fragrance judged at double strength tells you nothing about how it behaves in ordinary running. Try the bedroom candidates in the bedroom with the door shut, because a scent that is elegant in a large living room can be far too present in a small closed one; Westin-inspired White Tea Serenity and Shangri-La-inspired Tea Garden tend to survive that transfer better than the warmer, denser blends. And test the doorway, not just the rooms — stand in the passage between two running machines and see whether the two fragrances make sense together or produce a third thing neither of them promised.
